00:00The world of sports doesn't stop just because it's everyone else's weekend.
00:05Don't worry, H-Town, Clint, Ron, and T-Mill will get you up to speed.
00:11It's weekend's best and weekend's worst on The Drive.
00:21Weekend's best, weekend's worst.
00:22We had a weekend, y'all.
00:25We had a weekend.
00:25Fourth of July, fireworks.
00:27Wasn't the only fireworks happening.
00:28It was a lot going on.
00:31And although weekend's best, weekend's worst, it may venture off the field.
00:35It may venture off the pitch.
00:36It may venture off the diamond.
00:38You never know.
00:39Today, we're going to start with the worst.
00:42Bajani, I like to get the bad news out of the way immediately.
00:45I believe in just punching them in the nose.
00:47I don't want to sugarcoat them.
00:49I don't want to pat you on the ass.
00:50I don't want to make you feel good and then just push you off the cliff.
00:53I want to punch you square in the nose and then apologize, all right, with something good.
00:57So, let's start with the weekend's worst, man.
00:59What you got?
01:00Weekend's worst.
01:01Am I going first?
01:02You're going first, Bajani.
01:04I mean, can it get any worse than Brandon Ayuk calling out his at least potential future teammate in Jaden
01:14Daniels?
01:14Telling him to stop running behind his mama and that he doesn't believe anything that he's putting down?
01:20If you have not heard it, this is, again, how at least one of the latest Brandon Ayuk clips on
01:27social media sounded about Jaden Daniels.
01:30You're probably going to tell me you're talking about something.
01:32You're on my team now.
01:34You follow my rules.
01:37Boy, I'm a grown-ass man, boy.
01:40You're going to have to start running behind your mama, and I might believe what you're talking about.
01:44But until then, mm-mm.
01:46Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brandon Ayuk is still technically a San Francisco 49er.
01:51Yeah.
01:52He's not yet been released.
01:53He's got some things he needs to settle, I believe, before they're able to release him.
01:56But they're really not going to do him a favor by releasing him early either.
02:01No, but whose team is he on?
02:03You're on my team, he says?
02:05What the hell is going on here?
02:08If I'm the Washington Commanders, I'm looking twice at this dude from here on out.
02:14Out.
02:15Bye.
02:15We do not need you.
02:17I mean, you're trying to, you know, build something there.
02:20You've got a new O.C.
02:21Your quarterback's coming back healthy.
02:23You don't need these problems in your life if you're anybody associated with the Commanders.
02:28Yeah, I mean, here's the thing.
02:30Any coach that looks at that and goes, yeah, bring that to my team.
02:33And I'm not talking about just that video.
02:35I'm talking about the totality of what Brandon Iyuki is today.
02:40Anybody that says, yeah, I want some of that right there is desperate.
02:43And put him on the same team, by the way, as Laramie Tunsil.
02:47Well, this is not a, you know, this is not even a guy, in my opinion, that you add.
02:53If you've got a champ, like New England, the New England Patriots needed a wide receiver.
02:56And it's one of the, now they don't, obviously, with A.J. Brown.
02:59But they were in, like, obvious need of wide receiver.
03:02I would say that the Texans were in need, maybe not obvious, but in need of an established wide receiver.
03:08Kind of like when you got Diggs to come over.
03:10Yeah.
03:11This guy is poison.
03:14I would stay as far away from him as I possibly can, man.
03:18The totality of it, going after the GM.
03:21Now, even if it's tongue-in-cheek, going after the quarterback in this way,
03:25which I don't think it's tongue-in-cheek given the text message that you highlighted earlier from Jaden Daniels.
03:29It's now been deleted.
03:32Enjoy retirement.
03:33I mean, it just seems like, man, it just seems like he's on another planet, man.
03:37It just seems like there's no leading this guy.
03:41Clearly, he's not a leader, but he don't even know how to follow.
03:44So, yeah, man, I would stay as far away from him as I can.
03:47So, again, I agree.
03:48I don't know if we can get any worse than Brandon and I.
03:51However, the approach that I'm going to take with my weekend's worst is a pretty simple one.
04:00I'm going to go this route, one, because he was bad, but two, because I don't know that I'll ever
04:04get a chance
04:05to make him my weekend's worst ever again.
04:07Guy's a pretty good baseball player.
04:08I hope not.
04:09And he's one of my favorites, and he's here in Houston.
04:11I've got to go weekend's worst.
04:12I've got to go Hunter Brown.
04:15We lose game one versus the Rays in a series where I think we all agree it was kind of
04:22a litmus test
04:22of what the Astros are going to be capable of doing.
04:25The Rays were hot on an eight-game win streak, a nine-game win streak by the time we got
04:30to Hunter Brown
04:31after beating the Astros in game one of the series.
04:35It was America's 250, big day, July 4th, Hunter Brown on the bump.
04:42Well, we need a hell of a performance, see if we can't get game two so that we can still
04:46win the series,
04:47and the wheels completely come off Hunter Brown.
04:49Now, thanks to our other superstar, Jordan Alvarez, we were able to win that game.
04:53They get six RBIs in that game, three for four, six RBIs.
04:55Hit a bomb, hit a walk-off bomb in the bottom of nine.
04:58So we did get the victory, but it had nothing to do with Hunter Brown.
05:02Hunter Brown lasted four innings, gave up seven runs, six of which were earned runs.
05:06He walked four hitters, struck out only three, and gave up two home runs.
05:11So I'm going to go my weekend's worst, Bajani.
05:14Again, not to pick on him, not to pile on him,
05:16but I just don't know that I'm going to get the opportunity to do it again.
05:18So I'm going to go with Houston ace Hunter Brown.
05:22I think that's a really good one.
05:24It may be the obvious choice, to be honest with you, at least if you localize it,
05:28because not too much else went poorly.
05:32That was a stinker.
05:33One thing to take the sting out of my weekend's worst is, as I mentioned,
05:36Jordan Alvarez had turned around and had what should be the weekend's best here.
05:42He's my best.
05:43Well, hell, take it over.
05:44You got it.
05:44This is why my weekend's worst didn't sting that much.
05:49He was my best.
05:50If you want it, you can have it.
05:52I do have an honorable mention for best.
05:54You go ahead and run with it, man.
05:55I got mine.
05:56Alvarez, as you mentioned, for the Astros on Saturday,
05:59as part of that 10-8 victory, you know, you've said it,
06:02Jordan Alvarez may be single-handedly the reason why the Astros are even positioned
06:07the way that they are right now in the wild card and in their division.
06:11And, hell, in the span of two series, they could be very well back to .500,
06:14and they might be in the damn lead in this division going into the All-Star break,
06:18and it's because of Jordan Alvarez, who on Saturday hit two dingers,
06:22his 28th and 29th of the season.
06:24He's one percentage point behind Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays,
06:29for the best batting average in the American League,
06:32which would give him the triple crown at the halfway mark,
06:36and he still might get it.
06:37If you missed it, here's how Jordan ended everybody's Saturday at Dyken.
06:43Straight away center.
06:45Did he do it?
06:46Did he do it?
06:47Yes, he did!
06:49Start the fireworks!
06:52He does it every single time.
06:55And, Jordan, we absolutely trust.
07:00The MVP chance started tonight for the first time,
07:04and Jordan delivered a 6-RBI to home run night.
07:09If anybody gets to climb out of their own skin,
07:14it is Jordan Alvarez.
07:16I mean, he made Todd's voice crack right there.
07:19That was awesome.
07:20Yeah.
07:20And he's made a few of those calls in the last week alone.
07:22Well, we're lucky to have this cap, man,
07:25just from a fan's perspective,
07:28just from an entertainment value perspective,
07:32to have this guy at the plate every night.
07:33I said it earlier.
07:34We'll talk about it again later in the show.
07:37I mean, I just think the Astros are going to strike fear in any opponent.
07:42If they can play well enough,
07:44which it looks like they're going to right now at least,
07:46if they can play well enough to get into the playoffs some way,
07:48shape, or form, I think they're going to scare the hell
07:50out of whoever their opponent is one way or another
07:53because you've got this guy right here
07:55that pitchers are going to have to face.
07:56Managers are going to have to decide,
07:58do you pitch around him and not give him anything to hit,
08:00or do you give him a chance to change the game
08:03every time he comes to the plate?
08:05So he's on a historic run.
08:07Hopefully he can keep this thing up
08:09and really challenge for a triple crown and an MVP.
08:14We shall see.
08:15Again, it's hard to one-up that best right there,
08:17especially here in Houston.
08:19But I'm going to go with that World Cup match last night.
08:22I haven't watched a ton of soccer in my time.
08:23I haven't watched a ton of World Cup soccer in my time.
08:26But I tell you, now, if you're just a casual fan
08:29or if you just like sports,
08:31now's the time to start tuning in to the World Cup
08:34because all of these games moving forward are going to be,
08:38obviously, their win or go home,
08:39but they are some hellacious matches.
08:43England at Mexico last night.
08:45England wins 3-2, which, by the way,
08:48it's only the third competitor for Mexico in Azteca Stadium,
08:55which Azteca Stadium was built in 19, I can't read that, 66 or 56.
09:01Anyway, long-ass time.
09:02It's only the third loss that Mexico's had in that stadium.
09:06But England goes to Mexico and in, I believe that's Mexico City,
09:11and Azteca Stadium beats Mexico and advances to the next round.
09:17So tip the cap to England.
09:19Tip the cap to Mexico.
09:21The environment that was created down there was a really, really cool environment, man.
09:27It was one that, I mean, you're talking AFC Championship,
09:31Super Bowl-type environment for the fans down there.
09:34So I've got to go with weekend's best was that England-Mexico match last night.
09:38Great one.
09:38Yeah, that's a great one.
09:40If I can put a cherry on top of the best of the weekend,
09:45Major League Baseball recognizing the best of the weekend in Jordan Alvarez.
09:50He was just named American League Player of the Week.
09:53Jordan, 10 for 23, a 435 average, four dingers, 11 ribs.
10:00If we could put this in further perspective, the National League Player of the Week,
10:05Otto Lopez, he went 14 for 28, so hit .500 with eight extra base hits and seven RBIs.
10:15If you would have taken the six RBIs and the two dingers away from Saturday's performance alone for Jordan,
10:20I think he still has a better week than the National League Player of the Week.
10:25Speaking of Otto Lopez, the guy is just white, stinking hot.
10:30Jordan Alvarez, man.
10:32Yours.
10:32He is yours for now.
10:34The city of Houston's.
10:35Awesome.
10:36Yep.
10:36That's it.
10:37With that big fella in the middle of the lineup, like I said, you've got a chance to make this
10:42thing dance a little bit.
10:43It's going to be fun watching them move forward to see if they can stay hot.
10:50I did say I had an honorable mention, by the way.
10:52Who do you got?
10:53If you don't mind.
10:54The honorable mention for the best of the weekend, it very well is Astro-centric, or at least could be,
11:01down the road.
11:02Because you got rid of, at least at the end of this Major League Baseball season,
11:07three of the stinkers at the bottom of the barrel in terms of umpires.
11:11So, let's see.
11:11So, let's see.
