03:17So a big, big, big day here and a lot of things to hook you up with here at Talyard
03:23Brewing Company.
03:24All right, Clint, we look at the matchups.
03:27And we do this every week where we look at, all right, when the Texans have the ball,
03:31what is the important pivotal matchup in your mind in this game?
03:39Well, it's interesting that all of ours are different.
03:42Sometimes we have some overlap, but it looks like all of ours are going to be different.
03:44Look, I think this game is going to be won and lost with Nico Collins
03:49and whether he can beat man coverage throughout the game when they're bringing the blitz
03:56and when they're manned up across the board.
03:58Again, 55% man-to-man defense on the season, 65% in the last three games.
04:05They're going to lock you down,
04:07and they're going to bet that their defensive front gets there, gets home,
04:11before you can win versus their secondary.
04:13I think they're going to do it more often than we've seen in other games.
04:19And I think Nico Collins versus their corners, whether it's Greg Newsome or Deontay Banks.
04:27Here's the thing.
04:29Deontay Banks is the only corner on their roster that doesn't have IR or questionable next to his name.
04:35Yeah, I don't think Greg Newsome's going to play, to be honest.
04:38Yeah, he's questionable.
04:39He's got a concussion he's missed the last two days.
04:41Yeah, so, I mean, and the guy – looking at their depth chart, at least on –
04:44It's been Nick Jones, number 31.
04:46By the way, he was getting eight up.
04:49Getting eight, okay.
04:50Whoever –
04:51You see 12 versus 31.
04:53They ought to get out of whatever play it is and run it to them.
04:56Well, Nico Collins versus whoever tries to cover him in that secondary,
05:00whatever cornerback is healthy and tries to cover him,
05:03I think that's going to be – offensively, that's going to be –
05:06if not throughout the game,
05:07there's going to be three or four big-time opportunities to make –
05:11I'm talking hit-you-head-on-the-goal-post type plays.
05:14And I think Nico's got to make those or this is going to be a tight ball game.
05:17And I also think it's also important that CJ and Nick Kaley –
05:24because I would assume the Giants in the passing game are going to try to take Nico away.
05:29Like, if that is somebody they're going to swing coverage to or double, it will be him.
05:34And I still hope that that is not a situation in which we've seen in the past
05:39where that is – they're allowed to be able to take Nico out of the game by doing that.
05:45And I hope they still find ways to get him involved.
05:48He only had three catches last week, but they still found ways to try to get him involved.
05:51Well, the thing is you can't do both, right?
05:53I mean, like they're a man-to-man team.
05:56You can't play man and give Nico extra attention.
06:00Now, if you want to take and actually double him, then you can do some of that.
06:03Yeah, the old Calvin Johnson coverage or whatever, where they double it.
06:07I mean, you can do something crazy like that.
06:10But you affect your ability to pressure.
06:12And so, you know, we'll see what they do.
06:14I just think Nico in this game, you've got the number five pass defense.
06:18They've gotten there by pass rush and man coverage.
06:22When you've got a guy like Nico Collins, he has got –
06:25this is a lick-your-chops kind of game.
06:28And he's got to be big for the Texans to win this game the way in which they should.
06:32Yeah, to me, I think the Texans' offensive line pass protection
06:39versus the Giants' pass rush.
06:41The Giants have one of the best passing defenses in the game.
06:46And we know – we hear from D'Amico all the time about how the pass rush
06:51and the secondary is connected.
06:52Yep.
06:53And they haven't gotten a ton of sacks, but they get a lot of pressures.
07:00And you talked about they blitz a lot too and send pressure.
07:07And Abdul Carter, one of the several defensive ends, outside pass rushers,
07:13they've drafted in the top five of the last like three or four years,
07:16he leads the NFL in pass rush win rate.
07:20You know, that stat that Will has just dominated over the last couple years.
07:24He leads the league and is tied for the leading the lead in that.
07:29Even though he only gets two sacks, he is getting pressure on opposing teams' quarterbacks.
07:34So that is one to watch.
07:36And listen, last week was the best we've seen this offensive line from a run production
07:42but also from a pass production.
07:43It's the only game this season that C.J. Stroud wasn't sacked.
07:47Now listen, I'm going to be honest with you.
07:51I listened to Seth Payne earlier this week.
07:54And Seth Payne said, I wanted to give credit to both offensive lines of the Jags and the Texans.
08:02He said, but it looked like all those defensive linemen were playing on skates, on slippery flooring.
08:11And he said that had a lot to do with what we saw.
08:15So I hope that it was a step forward.
08:18But I still believe that Texans' offensive line can be had in rushing the passer.
08:26Because I truly believe the way C.J. is playing, if he has time, he's going to hurt him.
08:34With his weapons, they're going to be able to get work.
08:37If he is running and having to get off his spot and he's getting hit, he's getting sacked,
08:44you know, he's had it outside of the Jags game, he's been sacked at least two times in every game.
08:50And as you have pointed out over the past week or so, he's doing everything he can to get the
08:56ball out quick
08:56and protect his offensive line or he'd have double the sacks that he's got.
09:01So I think, to me, those boys up front against their defensive line and their pass rush and blitz packages,
09:09I think that's a huge deal on that side of the ball.
09:12Absolutely.
09:12I think one of the most telling stats that I've seen all year long was, I believe, after four games,
09:20maybe after five, but I think it was four, C.J. had been sacked ten times
09:25and all ten sacks had come from base rushes, base pass rushes.
09:31There was no blitzes.
09:32They didn't add a fifth head to the – a fifth helmet to the pass rush.
09:36It was, we're going to rush four.
09:38We're going to play coverage behind it.
09:39And those four were getting home.
09:41And at that point, C.J. had been sacked more times in the league
09:44than anybody not named Baker Mayfield.
09:46It's obviously gotten better of late, but it's pretty telling that if teams are able to get home
09:52to your quarterback at a, let's call it a top five rate in the NFL with four guys
09:57and not having to blitz, then you've got some problems.
10:00Now, the quarterback's playing better.
10:01I think the offensive play caller's better.
10:03And the sacks are not hurting us in terms of being able to go score points.
10:07But that's one of the more alarming stats that I've seen, to your point,
10:12the matchup of their defensive front and our offensive line is big.
10:15All right, for me, I'll start here.
10:17The matchup when the Giants have the ball and the Texans' defense is on the field.
10:21To me, the biggest – the biggest, I think, matchup in this game is can the Texans
10:27continue to do at least numbers-wise what they've done in the run game?
10:32Can they stop Cam Scadaboo, Tracy, the two backs that the Giants have?
10:40Because the thing that can absolutely help J.J. McCarthy is if they are running the football
10:46with any level of success and he can use play action and boots and different things like that.
10:52And I'm including him in the run game too.
10:54I think they'll do a little bit more Jackson's dart stuff they did with him
10:59than they obviously would do with Jameis Winston.
11:01But if they can stop the run game – and they've been really good.
11:04They've been – that's the one thing they do at an elite level on the defense.
11:09The two things they do, rush the passer, especially with Will, and then stop the run.
11:14They're, I think, third in the NFL when it comes to stopping the run.
11:18That, to me, will make things much more difficult on J.J.
11:23You make J.J. McCarthy one-dimensional and he's got to throw the football,
11:27I think obviously that plays very much into D'Amico's hands.
11:30Yeah, look, I'm going to go with our corners versus their wide receivers
11:35and it's not even truly a matchup.
11:38I'm going to venture off here.
11:39I wouldn't call it a matchup as much as if our corners are up in the face
11:43of the wide receivers, then it's less about the matchup
11:47and more about what that means everywhere else.
11:49But I think we're going to be able to see it through our corners.
11:52So I think it's – for me, it's our corners versus their wide receivers.
11:56I just think they're – I mean, these guys are – Stingley's going to be good
12:00no matter what he does, but these guys are average when they're 10 yards off
12:04and peddling at the snap and playing cover three, soft cover three,
12:08playing soft coverage.
12:09If they're up in the face or at least within five yards of the line of scrimmage
12:14at the corner position, I think that's going to tell us.
12:19I think it signifies to us that they're getting back to a little bit more
12:22suffocating style of defense, and I think that's going to be a telltale sign.
12:25I wonder how much they – and what they're going to do in terms of matchup
12:30for where they put Malik Neighbors.
12:33Are they avoiding him with Stingley?
12:35Are they putting him with Lassiter?
12:37Are they moving him in the slot?
12:38I'm going to be honest with you.
12:39This year it hadn't mattered.
12:41Like I told you, last week – you look at just last – and look,
12:44I know that there's a surface deal.
12:46It was wet, whatever.
12:47But you look just last week.
12:49I think to start the game in the first drive, the strange kid, the tight end,
12:55Stingley's so soft he catches a little lazy in route for 10, 12 yards.
12:59And then the last drive of the game when they kicked the field goal,
13:01the first play was Jacoby Myers for 15 yards, both of them on Stingley.
13:07So, I don't – at this point, the way Stingley's played this year –
13:11now a lot of it, again, is stylistically what they're doing scheme-wise,
13:15but I don't think anybody's shying away from Derrick Stingley Jr. this year.
13:19All right, we'll see.
13:19Those are the big matchups when the Texans have the ball
13:22and when the Giants have the ball.
13:24I said this on the other side, Tyler.
13:26I'm so proud of Houston.
13:28I really am.
13:29Tyler, you know me and you are the designated ones on this show
13:34that really take a look at the text line, YouTube, and Twitch.
13:39We may lose Clint if he would do – if he were to watch.
13:44Mental midget.
13:45And he knows it.
13:47He understands it.
13:48He understands we may lose him.
13:49And so, we take a look at it.
13:52And I want to say to you all, Clint and Tyler,
13:56I have not seen any Davis Mills texts for, I mean, at least three weeks.
14:04And I am so proud of all of you.
14:07I really am.
14:08I'm going to give you all a hand.
14:09Many of you, nobody, finally, everyone has finally said,
14:14okay, uncle, I'm going to stop.
14:17There are a couple probably still after the Bengal game still trying to say,
14:21oh, I think we should put Davis in.
14:23I am so happy that all of Houston has ducked out of that.
14:27Even you guys that kind of maybe went back in the bushes like Homer Simpson.
14:31Listen, I am so proud of you.
14:33I really am.
14:34I haven't seen it, Tyler.
14:36I don't know if you've seen it.
14:37The General Mills, Tyler's reframed and retired that.
14:41Nobody is clamoring for Davis to be the starter anymore,
14:44and I am so proud of you all.
14:46I haven't really noticed it, but yeah, you're right.
14:48Oh, I'm so proud of you.
14:49What are you going to do with your jersey, Tyler?
14:51Oh, that thing's missing.
14:53I don't even know where it's at.
14:54Yeah, he lost it.
14:55Oh, you're going to quit that too?
14:56I tried to find that last start Mills had, but I couldn't find it.
15:00You could have got three weeks worth of good run out of that last week,
15:03man, last year, man.
15:03I know.
15:04I was pissed.
15:05All of you.
15:06God, man.
15:06Just take the nameplate off, put Hopkins on the back,
15:09and enjoy the jersey.
15:10Text line, YouTube, Twitch.
15:13You've been able to be mature enough to say, all right, guys,
15:18we're out on this one.
15:19I'm so proud of all of you.
15:21Boy, you don't woke them up watching.
15:22I am.
15:23No, no, they're down.
15:25I'm certain we'll even have some people texting to say, boy,
15:27I was wrong, Joe.
15:29I was wrong.
15:30And I'm proud of you.
15:31I mean, I don't even need you to do that.
15:33But I'm just glad that we've been able to let that go.
15:36There's about two or three guys that we're still trying to hang in there.
15:39I don't know if the vibe you give off is walk up and say,
15:43you were right, Joe, I was wrong.
15:45There have been about eight people over the years that have done it.
15:49Right.
15:49There's been about eight people.
15:51Over eight years or seven, six years.
15:52There's about eight people have done it.
15:54But I have, man.
15:55I'm telling you, man, I'm glad, guys.
15:57I'm glad you've seen the light.
