00:00All right, let's do a little weekend's best, weekend's worst.
00:03Clint, what's your weekend's best this week?
00:06Oh, we've talked about it.
00:07I think it's Sam Darnold.
00:08I mean, I think just the, I mean, you know, people can debate, you know,
00:14how great the story is and how great the story, where it ranks.
00:18But when you're mentioning Sam Darnold's story and his journey
00:23with the likes of Kurt Warner, who was stocking shelves at a grocery store
00:28playing arena football and then obviously becomes a Super Bowl champion
00:33or the Johnny United story.
00:35I mean, when you're mentioning those stories as you're debating
00:41whether Sam Darnold's story journey is the best ever,
00:45then he's in pretty good company.
00:46And so I just think this weekend for me, man, I love to see redemption.
00:50I love to see a guy that's had the hell beat out of him, been doubted,
00:54had every reason to just kind of go into a backup mode
00:57and make millions of dollars being a backup that's super talented,
01:02take some risks, bounce around the league a little bit,
01:05land in two really good franchises with San Francisco and now Seattle
01:09and Soda, I'd say three really good franchises, I guess.
01:14And now the story's told and it ends with him being a Super Bowl champ, man.
01:19So I got to ride with Sam Darnold.
01:22Good for Sam.
01:22My weekend's best, the Pro Bowl ratings were way down, down 60%,
01:27and hopefully they get rid of that game.
01:30Just get completely rid of it.
01:31I want them to.
01:32That is like nobody wants to play in it.
01:35I mean, we saw people in that hotel room, that hotel lobby,
01:39that didn't have any reason to be there.
01:42Like, I think it's a cool honor after, like, football is just not built for it, right?
01:47They're just not built for it after the season,
01:49and if you're not playing it the same way you had before it, everyone sits out.
01:53Let's just give the name recognition of who it is and put them out, and that's it.
01:57Like, I just hope the only reason why I think they kept playing this game
02:01is because the ratings were so high, why would you not just throw this on
02:06if you're ESPN or ABC?
02:08And now people are like, no, man, I'm just out.
02:11I'm out on this thing, and I hope this is something that the game just ends.
02:17Yeah.
02:17I mean, look, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
02:19I'll be honest with you.
02:19Did you watch any of it?
02:20I didn't see it.
02:21I mean, I saw the highlights a time or two.
02:24I saw Nico score.
02:25Yeah.
02:25Yeah, yeah.
02:26I mean, I saw some of that, but no, I'm not.
02:28I mean, it doesn't do much.
02:29And seeing how it's set up, and it's not even set up to allow fans in to enjoy it,
02:34it's like, I mean, you're literally in a conference building
02:38warehouse looking for it.
02:39They were next door to us.
02:40Yeah, I mean, when I asked Parker about it, I said, I may slide over to that.
02:44He was like, oh, I don't know, man.
02:45I don't know if people can't get in.
02:45I'm like, what?
02:47Like, you don't even want the media to come cover it?
02:48Uh-uh.
02:49Like, that was.
02:51Now, he didn't mean if you call such, such, such.
02:53But I'm like, well, I just assumed that Pro Bowl games, flag football type stuff,
02:58competitions would be like, it's all about the fans.
03:00Now that I've realized that it's just in a warehouse somewhere with very limited
03:04attendance, I'm like, yeah, let me get the hell out of here.
03:07Yeah.
03:08I'm going to go with my weekend's worst, Clint, real quick.
03:11And it is the number two most annoying thing to me in sports that I hate,
03:18right behind people throwing pitchers throwing the ball at people on purpose.
03:24And that is the court storming.
03:27And for multiple reasons, Duke and North Carolina, we get a court storming.
03:32First off, we get a court storming, and there's .45 left in the game.
03:37And North Carolina can still have a chance to win the game,
03:40but we've got to get everybody's ass off the court because we've court stormed.
03:44Second, apparently, according to John Shire, the head coach at Duke,
03:48a staffer of his got punched in the face and had a bloody lift.
03:54He had a bloody lip, and then he got punched in the face and got trampled.
03:58But he is doing better, doing fine.
04:00He may have to sit out this week of being along with the team.
04:04And then the third part is you are North Carolina.
04:08You look up into those rafters.
04:10There's Michael Jordan.
04:12There's James Worthy.
04:14There's Dean Smith.
04:15There's everybody.
04:17And you're storming the court against Duke.
04:20That's all around.
04:21Pathetic.
04:22I mean, I bet all of them were just against Duke.
04:25You're North Carolina.
04:27I swear to God, if Kansas storms the court and they beat Arizona tonight,
04:31I will lose my mind.
04:33There have got to be some leaders in the fan base to stop people from running down.
04:36That's absolutely ridiculous.
04:38And punching people.
04:39All right.
04:39I got one that's going to take a little bit of figuring here,
04:42but I'll make it quick.
04:44I'm going – my weekend's worst is California.
04:48That's the whole state, huh?
04:49Well, yeah.
04:50Well, just – yeah, definitely.
04:52But, no, in particular – like, I don't know if y'all heard this or saw this.
04:56And I'm aware of it, having played.
04:58When you play in other states, you get taxed according to the state you play in.
05:04And I don't know how spot-on accurate this is,
05:08but the fact that it's even remotely close to where someone would report it
05:11and discuss it on TV is crazy.
05:14Every player for Seattle got $178,000 or $179,000.
05:20The winning team, each player gets that amount of money.
05:22When you chalk up the fact that they've been in California for seven days,
05:27by the time that they pay taxes –
05:31Because they end up –
05:33Because they end up – when you're there for so many days,
05:34I believe you have to pay taxes on your total salary,
05:36not just the money that you earned in that state, right?
05:40Anyway, long story short, there's a 3.5% tax that because you were in California –
05:45this isn't even counting the days that Sam –
05:47I think it was Sam Darnold specifically,
05:48where they were playing the Rams twice, the 49 – whatever it was, right?
05:52This is just the Super Bowl.
05:54It literally cost – I think it was Sam Darnold.
05:57It cost Sam Darnold $70,000 to play in the Super Bowl.
06:02Because all the money – even with the winnings?
06:05Yes, that's counting the winnings.
06:07He made $170,000-something,
06:09and he's going to have to pay over $200,000 in taxes to California
06:13for earning a living there for seven days.
06:15It cost him $70,000-plus.
06:18Now, the guys that are minimum wage guys,
06:20that will offset that $170,000, they'll probably make money.
06:25But for Sam Darnold, apparently, the state of California,
06:28the taxes that are there, which –
06:31I mean, you listen to anybody that lives there,
06:33the reports are, I mean, it's just absolutely absurd.
06:35But apparently, it costs Sam Darnold $70,000 to just play in the damn Super Bowl.
06:39That's ridiculous.
06:40That's ridiculous.
