Severe storms around the periphery of extreme heat have been causing problems in a wide range of areas.
Transcript
00:00This is a classic early July pattern, if there ever was one.
00:03Big-time heat, and around the periphery of that, lots of storms.
00:07So from Dickinson, North Dakota, to Rapid City, you're under a severe thunderstorm watch till 11 p.m.
00:11But a lot of storms have been on the map into parts of Iowa and Wisconsin.
00:16Numerous strong thunderstorms into Ames and Waterloo.
00:18Some of these dumping some hail.
00:20Some of these also have produced some flooding this morning.
00:23So this next episode is going to add to additional rain in the rain gauges.
00:27Two-inch diameter hail there in Glenhaven, Wisconsin.
00:30Strong winds.
00:30Livingston, Wisconsin, 60-mile-per-hour gusts.
00:33Spring green, 62-mile-per-hour gusts.
00:36Look at this.
00:36Platteville, Wisconsin, 78-mile-per-hour wind gusts here just recently at 440 Central Time.
00:42So a little bit ago.
00:43Obviously more than an hour ago, but nasty stuff.
00:4678-mile-per-hour gusts there in Platteville.
00:48Heading farther west into South Dakota, we've had some big-time storms here as well.
00:52Tornado report here in Willow Lake.
00:54That was at 530 Central.
00:55We've had some big-time hailers and fierce wind as well.
00:59Bancroft, South Dakota, 69-mile-per-hour gusts at 531 p.m.
01:03Iroquois, 72-mile-per-hour gusts.
01:06This is a really loaded pattern here with the heat and high-octane fuel fueling these storms.
01:14So beyond the Willow Lake tornado, there was a Wessington Springs tornado.
01:17And the Gann Valley tornado tracked likely northeastward into Wessington Springs.
01:21So, again, a lot of concerns there.
01:23We're beginning to see some hail out near Sturgis, a little larger than a quarter, about the size of a
01:27half dollar there.
01:28And then isolated storms are beginning to break out there in the western part of Kansas.
01:33And then we also have that severe watchdown into parts of Tennessee.
01:37There's a clustering of storms pulling west of Nashville.
01:40Some wind, some hail here.
01:41Most of the hail is a little smaller than what's going on in the plains.
01:43But there are some trees out, trees down, power outages and so forth.
01:47So, again, a lot of moving parts with this storm set up.
01:50The strongest of the storms this evening and into the night, South Dakota, southern parts of Minnesota, northern Iowa, hail,
01:57damaging wind.
01:58We've seen the isolated tornadoes there.
01:59And the secondary risk area up into northern New England.
02:03That has been mainly bottled up into parts of Canada with a few exceptions.
02:06And then we've got these scattered strong storms, hail and wind, a concern into Tennessee, southern Kentucky, and surrounding areas.
02:12But as we look at future radar beyond the current round of storms that are nasty out there, we've got
02:17more coming.
02:18And Friday, more storms into the upper Midwest.
02:21Big time heat in the central plains.
02:23And the Friday risk area, Sioux Falls to Omaha, two out of four risk.
02:27Moderate risk of severe storms here in this region.
02:30Let's go into the specifics here for Sioux Falls.
02:33You'll notice during the early to mid-afternoon, there's really not much to see.
02:36Late in the evening, around midnight, 1 a.m., 2 a.m., that's Friday night to Saturday morning, we get
02:42walloped with some more wind, flash flooding, and hail in Sioux Falls.
02:47Saturday, numerous storms on July 4th.
02:49This is where some of the fireworks forecasts are the least optimistic here for our AccuWeather fireworks viewing forecast because
02:56of heavy thunderstorms on Saturday.
02:58Nebraska into western parts of Missouri, again, mainly northwestern Missouri.
03:01One of the drivers here is just extreme amounts of moisture.
03:05The dew points mid-70s.
03:07That is really humid air.
03:09Extreme high amounts of warmth and heat and a mediumly strong, a moderately strong dip in the jet stream.
03:15tickets, from an end up to 22 a year, of 18, of 17, were almostầuoruse priced as much as the
03:15actual overview of the wave.
03:15Ircpes up the лад Its issue now.
