Multiple rounds of storms sweeping through the Midwest this week could lead to flooding and damaging winds before pushing into the Northeast on Friday.
Transcript
00:00Storms moving into West Virginia, not seeing as many severe thunderstorm warnings in West Virginia, but still seeing the flash
00:06flooding, especially take a look at northern West Virginia here.
00:10So we have a line of storms that's oriented west to east and it's moving west to east, which is
00:15your surefire recipe for flash flooding, unfortunately here.
00:19And this isn't the only round of rain that we're tracking. Take a look as we go through the rest
00:23of tonight. As far as severe weather goes, this is who we have our eye on.
00:26So it really lines up with where we've seen the severe storms so far, but we could see a few
00:31more as we go into the overnight hours, damaging wind gusts and flash flooding.
00:35The big concerns. Take a look ahead. Future radar. So I mentioned Kansas City tomorrow morning. Yeah, this is why
00:42you see all the yellows, oranges, reds.
00:44And I mean, it's covering all of the northern half of Missouri. Really, that's widespread. That's for sure.
00:50It definitely could add to a messy morning commute. Now, you'll notice the core of our storm system a little
00:56further to the west.
00:57So it's part of the reason that we're seeing multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms across many of these areas
01:02the next couple of days.
01:03By the time we get to the evening commute, two things to point out. So some of these storms, surefire
01:07signs for damaging wind, but also Detroit messy evening commute.
01:10And if we play this out to Friday morning, messy morning commute in Detroit as well.
01:15So you just lose out as far as the commute timing here. Now, I pointed out the area of low
01:20pressure because that's going to come in by the time we get to Saturday.
01:24But what you should focus on for Friday is, yes, this is all coming along with a cold front. That's
01:30going to be important for Saturday, too.
01:31But because of some prefrontal features, we see multiple rounds of rain in the northeast.
01:37Here's round number one, 6 a.m. We play this out. We get round number two coming along with the
01:43front or out ahead of the front.
01:44That brings our strong to severe storms, some damaging wind that could cause trees down, Halloween decorations to go, flying,
01:50and some power outages.
01:51Then after the front clears late Friday night, we still have some lingering rain, and that really matters for the
01:57mid-Atlantic by the time we get to Saturday.
01:59It's more than just a few lingering showers at that point. Some heavy downpours that we're going to be dealing
02:04with throughout the day.
02:05Rewinding it back to Thursday, though, here's the area we're most concerned about for severe weather.
02:09It's another level one out of four. Some risks. Spotty. Not everybody sees the severe weather.
02:15But those who do, Cincinnati, Columbus, Lima, Indianapolis, St. Louis, so lifting a little further north compared to today's severe
02:21weather threat.
02:21But the same concerns. Damaging wind, flooding downpours as the highlights.
02:26I want to give you the snapshot for Friday, because this is a very dynamic system in that where you
02:33are very much determines what you get.
02:36So we have some rain to snow into the higher elevations. Don't get too excited.
02:41It's not going to open ski season early, but it's a sign that it's on the way.
02:45What I really want you to pay attention to is this area in dark green. That's where we have the
02:48thunderstorms.
02:49Now, anybody seeing some rain could see some stronger wind gusts that are going to knock down the fall leaves.
02:55So bad news for leaf peepers. It could blow around those Halloween decorations and could lead to some localized power
03:01outages.
03:01But especially in this area where we have that spotty, severe risk.
03:06It's D.C. Well, really, most of the Delmarva Peninsula through D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and then even
03:12upstate a little bit here.
03:13Damaging wind going to be the main threat here.
03:16But this is where we get to severe thunderstorm warning criteria further west.
03:21Not out of the question to see some stronger wind gusts as well.
03:24We'll see you next time.
