Late-week storm bringing threat of tornadoes to the South

Severe storms in the South this weekend could lead to flash flooding and even tornadoes.

00:00And in the short term, there are your tornado watches and tonight's severe threat continuing.

00:04But this next threat is going to escalate from California with a new round of very disruptive weather.

00:09That's right. This next storm system is pretty much going to go coast to coast as we head throughout the weekend.

00:14It'll start tomorrow, tomorrow afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall there across central California

00:19and flooding rainfall across southern California, especially where the burn scarred areas are.

00:24And it's also going to bring heavy snowfall there across parts of the California mountain ranges,

00:28especially above 6,000 feet. In addition to that, there will be another snow and ice potential here

00:34stretching from Oklahoma all the way up towards New England to the south,

00:37where we're going to see another risk of severe weather here,

00:40primarily across generally the same area we're tracking the severe weather threat right now.

00:45Here's the overall setup for severe weather as we head throughout Saturday.

00:49It's going to be encompassing a majority of the same areas we're tracking right now,

00:52stretching from East Texas into parts of Kentucky as we head into Saturday,

00:57Saturday afternoon. And on our AccuWeather storm scale of 1 to 4,

01:00this region right here in the middle, that orange shaded region, will be at a level 2 of 4 there.

01:05As far as the overall severe weather potential, we will be watching out for large hail, damaging winds,

01:10flooding rainfall, and yes, even a tornado threat associated with these storms here

01:14as they work their way into the forecast starting on Saturday.

01:17And then after that, yes, we will be watching out for an additional threat there

01:20for flash flooding as we head into next weekend.
