Intense rain could cause problems across the Plains and Midwest.
Transcript
00:00Radar scan does allow us to have at least a little bit more rain here off towards east
00:05has shifted through.
00:06So right now Hannibal and this area really just getting some passing showers but if you're
00:10south that you can hear a few rumbles of thunder even towards the St. Louis area in the next
00:15two hours.
00:16Mostly though the action is a little bit farther to the southeast where we do have some of
00:19these stronger thunderstorms here.
00:21These are a little bit more intense as they cut their way through Kentucky at times.
00:25And at times if I take off the lightning and show you the warnings we have had some severe
00:29thunderstorm warnings with them but mostly the concern has been flash flooding.
00:34Hopefully it will stay that way.
00:36Of course the rainfall though is piling up here in an area that's already had a bit of rain.
00:40And speaking of rain let me show you what we've had.
00:43It's been impressive 24 hour rainfall.
00:46You can already see estimated by radar there's been a lot through southern Indiana into southern
00:50Illinois all through western Kentucky.
00:52But the real story has been the bullseye back here in Wichita.
00:56Wichita by the way yesterday picking up more than five and a quarter inches of rainfall.
01:01It was about five and a third inches.
01:03To do that they did break the daily rainfall record.
01:06This week they've had more than six inches of rain come down.
01:11It has been wet there so flooding concerns continue to remain.
01:15Where we're tracking that severe weather though is going to stay with us here through parts
01:20of Kentucky and right towards the Louisville area as we watch those storms continue to glance
01:24on through.
01:25Then we will also see some of those thunderstorms on the eastern fringes there towards Virginia.
01:30Maybe a few of them can have some of those gusty winds through time.
01:34Great future radar takes us through it and we've got some heavy rainfall still unfolding,
01:38which is why we can lead to that risk for more flooding potential here and why we've been highlighting
01:44that here at AccuWeather for the past few days.
01:46There still can be some of those thunderstorms from the high plains kicking up and spur stirring
01:51up more trouble across Oklahoma.
01:53So that's been one of the areas we've been targeting tonight AccuWeather for that risk of heavy rainfall
01:57and more flooding potential and you can see how this boundary just kind of stays in place into Saturday.
02:02As we go through the timeline here you can see there's still some heavy rain,
02:05but it starts to clear out in states like Kansas.
02:08So some better news there.
02:10For the high plains, those thunderstorms will still form and we will still watch for the risk of damaging winds,
02:16hail, isolated tornadoes.
02:18The story though is going to change to the storms lifting a little farther north around the heat dome.
02:23So basically this energy in the northwest is kicking off towards the east and when it does that,
02:29it does create the risk for severe weather.
02:31It starts in the northern plains tomorrow across parts of eastern Montana and North Dakota.
02:36It will continue through Monday in states like Minnesota as we go to start off next week.
