American Family Care (AFC) has announced their CEO Bruce Irwin, MD has died on April 14th, 2023. AFC claims they operate 300 clinics and 1,500 in-network providers caring for nearly 6 million patients a year.

I was a patient at one of their Birmingham, AL. clinics in 2019. I expressed neck pain, was given an x-ray, and was told I had no injuries present. After obtaining my records I discovered broken skull bone appears in the same pictures. Attempts to contact the CEO about my situation several months ago were unsuccessful.

People involved in my case & mistreatment: Ana Maria Echenique MD for Experity, outsourced to read my x-ray; Nurse Kimberly Kelly who attended to me at the Parkway clinic; Dr. Blake Thomas, who is listed as supervising the nurse; Dr. Perry L. Savage Sr. of OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports, $300 referral from AFC, 50 year experienced bone surgeon told me I had no injuries, I showed him other CT and MRI showing broken skull bone and 6 inches diameter infection in my head; Neurologist Kyle Hudgens of Grand View neurology: $300 referral based on AFC x-ray - said he could not explain my pain, I showed him same CT & MRI with CSF leak, 6 inches diameter infection / physiological anomalies around my brain.

At the end of this video you will hear my recorded telephone call to AFC (American Family Care) Urgent Care Cahaba Village (3000 Cahaba Village Pl STE 110, Birmingham, AL 35243). I am told by a receptionist an AL. licensed MD Christopher Blake Thomas I was trying to contact was "in clinic" (with a patient) and could not talk to me. I am then transferred to office manager "Sadler" (a pseudonym). This was actually Dr. Blake Thomas using a false name. He proceeds to tell me he heard the receptionist say the MD was in clinic. This was a lie, I was speaking to him. I found many staff in AFC use pseudonyms (nicknames) and this video shows this practice is already being abused. All the real first and last names of medical clinic staff need to be posted up front in lobby and freely given to patients and customers upon request. In my recorded calls in this video you will hear "Sadler" refused to give me his first and last name when asked.

I cite a television interview (https://www.wvtm13.com/article/mountain-brook-doctor-sees-big-surge-in-covid-patients-at-clinic/37165650) with WVTM NBC 13 & play my telephone recordings back to back, the voices are identical.

I was told no injuries appeared there but almost died a few months later when 6 inches diameter of infection set into my jaw and head (visible in subsequent MRI). I obtained my records from this visit & a several inch diameter anomaly is visible in the same area where broken skull bone and infection appears in other images. AFC would not help me get this error corrected, I paid $175 for the visit.

I find these practices to be unprofessional in a business sense and medically unethical.

00:00Alright, I saw this news item.
00:02American Family Care mourns the loss of founder and CEO Donald Bruce Irwin, M.D.
00:09Pioneer of Urgent Care passes away at age 73 in Birmingham, Alabama.
00:15This is dated April 18, 2023.
00:19It is with deep sadness that American Family Care, AFC, the nation's leading provider of
00:26accessible primary care, urgent care, and occupational medicine, announces the passing of Donald
00:33Bruce Irwin, M.D., founder and CEO.
00:36Irwin passed away peacefully on April 14, following a sudden illness.
00:41He was 73 years old.
00:43I was a patient at an American Family Care AFC clinic, the one at 9232 Parkway East, Birmingham,
00:53Alabama.
00:53You can see hours of documentation on my experience dealing with American Family Care, AFC, on my
01:03YouTube channel.
01:04It's my medical nightmare.
01:06I saw nurse Kimberly Kelly at the AFC Urgent Care.
01:11She was supervised by Dr. Blake Thomas, M.D.
01:15I had an x-ray done there in 2019.
01:19I was told I had no injuries in this x-ray.
01:23I felt that my injuries were more substantial than this.
01:27I obtained my medical records from AFC.
01:31A $175 visit.
01:34And in the pictures that I got from the clinic, I'll put them up here.
01:39I discovered I had broken the underside of my skull.
01:43This wound, it became complicated, infected, possibly parasites and worms grew in this wound.
01:51Almost died from the infection and complication shortly after this.
01:56I was subsequently referred to an orthopedic doctor.
02:02This was Perry L. Savage Sr. of Ortho Alabama Spina Sports, also in Birmingham, and a neurologist.
02:10Dr. Kyle Hudgens at Grandview Neurology off Highway 280, also in Birmingham.
02:17A $300 visit at each of these specialist doctors.
02:23They told me I had no injuries based on the original pronouncement.
02:30And this was not true.
02:32I tried to contact AFC American Family Care about what happened to me because I was misdiagnosed.
02:41I received several obligations from the corporate office.
02:47I actually tried to call Dr. Bruce Irwin, the CEO himself, about my situation.
02:55Bruce Irwin never returned my call.
02:57I had obligations from junior management that I would be contacted.
03:06And I'm still waiting for those calls.
03:07I was never called back.
03:10Got the voicemail of Vice President Mark Goodwin.
03:14This gentleman never called me back.
03:16My issues are still outstanding.
03:18They are unresolved.
03:20And this is a very serious matter.
03:24What happened to me, this is an unacceptable practice for a medical services provider.
03:31I tried to call the doctor that was supposed to be supervising my visit.
03:35This is Blake Thomas, MD.
03:37He is now located at the AFC Urgent Care off of Highway 280.
03:44There are several unprofessional, unacceptable business practices that I encounter dealing with AFC.
03:49Their staff and even state of Alabama licensed medical doctors were giving me fake names, false names, and pseudonyms.
03:59I tried to contact Dr. Blake Thomas last year about what happened to me.
04:06I got their office and was given the name of an office manager.
04:11This was simply Sadler.
04:14That's S-A-D-L-E-R.
04:16This office manager told me that he was going to take down my information and contact some higher-ups on
04:25the corporate side of AFC.
04:28And then a few days later, in a subsequent communication, I was told that there was going to be nothing
04:36that they were going to be able to do to help me with the fact that I had been misdiagnosed.
04:42No refund, nothing.
04:45I later found out that this person that I spoke to was actually the doctor I was trying to contact,
04:51Blake Thomas, MD.
04:53And you can see those videos.
04:55I recorded all my phone calls and communication with AFC.
04:59They're all up there on that YouTube channel in those videos.
05:03I believe that when confronted with this misdiagnosis, that AFC decided to protect their doctor's reputation as well as the
05:16reputation and careers of their partners versus helping me, a very seriously injured patient, get a correction on the true
05:26state of my injury.
05:28And the evidence, it all adds up to support that.
05:32It says in this press release, Dr. Bruce Irwin's funeral service will be held Saturday, April 22nd at Asbury United
05:42Methodist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
05:45Visitation begins at 2 p.m., followed by funeral services at 3 p.m.
05:49This is located off of Highway 280.
05:51Yeah, I think it might be worth going to this event and trying to see if I can get in
05:57touch with somebody because I'm still waiting on these phone calls to be returned.
06:02If you work with AFC and you want to help me get some resolution in my situation, you're free to
06:08contact me.
06:09My email address is futurecloneguy at gmail.com.
06:15And I'll put the spelling on screen.
