Downpours from the Ohio Valley to the Carolinas could cause flooding issues this weekend.
Transcript
00:00We're kind of right in the nation's midsection where we've just got a lot of things going on.
00:04You get the thunderstorms in the high plains to form and they swing east for you.
00:08You get the moisture coming in from the gulf.
00:10It's a lot of action here.
00:12So you can see where those thunderstorms are occurring and where they have occurred, I should say.
00:17And that's been through southeastern Missouri, the Rola area.
00:20Some spots picking up six plus inches in a matter of three, four hours or less.
00:26It was really problematic and it was unfortunately too very life-threatening with all the water rescues that were going
00:33on there.
00:34What do we have in place now?
00:36We still have a severe thunderstorm watch.
00:37This is the northern side of Missouri, so a little bit of a different area,
00:41but still an area that could probably use a little bit of a break from the action.
00:45And you can see those thunderstorms still working through.
00:47And we also have a lot of those flash flood warnings slowly starting to expire,
00:51but any more rain here can agitate things.
00:54And we will see at least some potential for that in the upcoming hours.
00:58The southern U.S., we still have a lot of rain here too.
01:01Some thunderstorms.
01:02I have highlighted some of the severe weather thunderstorm makers in the Carolinas.
01:06And there's still quite a few warnings here for damaging wind potential across states like Georgia
01:12and north and south Carolina, even into parts of Virginia.
01:15Going into the upcoming hours, flooding will be a concern here across Kentucky, Tennessee,
01:20even extending back into Missouri.
01:22Why? We see this pattern unfold through the night and into tomorrow,
01:25where we're going to pick up more thunderstorm complexes in this region.
01:29So your Saturday map shows you we've still got thunderstorms.
01:32Nashville, Little Rock, so many different locations.
01:35And most of that is spotty in nature as you get towards the Gulf Coast.
01:38But we still can have severe weather out there.
01:41That's going to include much of Tennessee, northern Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas,
01:45and back into Missouri and Arkansas as we head through Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.
01:51We will still have the chance for flooding with these thunderstorms.
01:54Watch how in the next couple of hours we get these complexes again trying to form here,
01:59driving their way south as they so often do, and continuing to fall.
02:03That will help spur some new thunderstorms once we get into the day on Saturday.
02:07So the sun comes up.
02:08It's out there.
02:09It kicks up some more thunderstorms.
02:11Things get pretty active here across the south, and that's our severe weather threat.
