The Washington Commanders seem to be a lock to sign Brandon Aiyuk after his release from the 49ers which could come sooner than you think. Kevin Sheehan goes over the pros and cons of the Commanders being the frontrunners to sign Brandon Aiyuk whenever he becomes available and what kind of player they would be getting for the upcoming NFL season.

00:00All right, let me switch subjects real quickly.
00:02So the other day we played the George Kittle sound from Pardon My Take,
00:09the podcast that he was on, when he was asked about Brandon Iyuk.
00:16This is what he said.
00:18The last time I saw Iyuk was, call it week six, seven, or eight.
00:22I don't really know.
00:23But I used to make it a habit of mine to go out early in the morning
00:27before meetings to watch him train because he'd always be out there early.
00:30And I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and stop on a dime.
00:33So he's still got it.
00:36Or at least, you know, that was a year, I mean, eight months ago.
00:39So I don't really know.
00:41But, yeah, you guys have fun with that, I guess.
00:43Yeah, thank you.
00:45I'm going to have a lot of fun with that.
00:47Perfectly put.
00:47Still got it.
00:48Have fun with that, I guess.
00:49Yeah.
00:49Yeah, you have fun with all that comes with it.
00:54So that last part, you guys have fun with it.
00:57You guys have fun with all that comes with it.
01:00I said to you yesterday, was it yesterday or Monday that we played this sound?
01:05I forget now.
01:06Yesterday.
01:06Yesterday.
01:07But I basically said, you know, he gave you the good.
01:11You know, he gave you hope that, you know, as recently as week eight or week nine of last year,
01:16he looked like Brandon Iyuk physically.
01:18But then he also gave, I think, a simultaneous warning.
01:23This from my guy Stan, who hasn't emailed me in forever.
01:27Stan wrote, this was so obvious from George Kittle.
01:32Kittle's giving you a buyer beware.
01:38He went into some sort of description after that.
01:42But basically a banner that says buyer beware.
01:46Uh, I think some people took the Kittle as, whoa, there's some hope there that physically he's going to be
01:54good.
01:55And by the way, he's got a good work ethic.
01:58He's the first out there training, you know, last year before they started, before they, you know, he went AWOL
02:06and before they started voiding all of his money.
02:10I don't know.
02:10I think that there was as much of a buyer beware.
02:14I agree with Stan.
02:16I think that there was, hey, he can really go.
02:20There's no doubt about it.
02:22But be careful with him.
02:25Did you, did you hear it that way, Max?
02:27That's the way I heard.
02:28Oh, absolutely.
02:29Yeah.
02:29Okay, because I, I, I think a lot of people, and I just looked after our show yesterday at some
02:35of the reactions, a lot of people said, man, Kittle is really pushing Ayuk, really thinks he is ready to
02:44go.
02:44I think there was definitely a buyer beware there.
02:48Um, yeah, I want to play this part of it too.
02:51Yeah, you're right.
02:52I wouldn't be happy either after a team paid me $130 million.
02:54I know that can be, well, the taxes in California, he's probably like, oh, oh, this sucks.
02:58I got so much tax.
02:59Yeah.
03:00More money, more problems, right?
03:02Yes.
03:03So yeah, we'll take him.
03:04He'll make less money and he'll be happier.
03:06And then he'll stop posting weird stuff on social media.
03:09Yeah.
03:09This is clearly, I mean, I don't, I don't know the, I don't know who, who was he talking to?
03:15So he's talking to PFT, PFT is the, the resident Washingtonian, uh, and Washington fan on that show.
03:21So he's kind of the one talking about it, but yeah, it's very tongue-in-to-one.
03:25Yeah.
03:26It's, there's, there's just a bit of sarcasm there.
03:30Yeah.
03:30I mean, he didn't make 130 million, but he made, he got paid 50 and that's a lot of money.
03:37And, uh, yeah, I mean, it's George Kittle, who is a very optimistic, always has been out in San Francisco
03:46teammate and a cheerleader of all, including Jimmy Garoppolo.
03:50I remember nobody was a bigger cheerleader for Garoppolo, even when Garoppolo wasn't great.
03:55Uh, he's essentially saying, yeah, the dude can really go, but beware.
04:01Cause he a bit crazy.
04:04Yeah, that's, that's Brandon Ayuk in a nutshell right now.
04:08I mean, we don't have all the details clearly, but yes, he can really go, you know, Javon Kinlaw would
04:16be listing him as a player that can really go with a few expletives, uh, as, as adjectives.
04:23But he a bit nuts right now, that's, that's the problem.
04:29So I saw, um, uh, sports illustrated put out like the three teams for Brandon Ayuk and projected 2026 stats
04:40for Brandon Ayuk.
04:42Well, Washington is the front runner, of course, and they even describe the chase for Ayuk is kind of a
04:50one team race, even though they list New Orleans and Carolina as two teams that would be interested in Ayuk,
04:57two other teams that would be interested in Ayuk.
05:00Um, and the projected 2026 stats for Ayuk, 71 catches, 762 yards and six touchdowns.
05:14I think I would take that right now.
05:16Wouldn't you?
05:16In his first season, because let's, you know, say that Terry's at 70 something and 900 plus yards with a
05:25true number, you know, a one a don't ask me to put them in order.
05:30Which is one, which is one a, cause I don't want to upset everybody because I don't even know if
05:34this guy can even play football, but you know, 700 plus yards, six touchdowns and combine that with Terry with
05:43900 plus yards and another 80 catches and another nine touchdowns.
05:50And then you got Chig, who's going to probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 to 70 catches, 500,
05:59600 yards.
06:00Five, six touchdowns.
06:02Yeah.
06:03I'll take that right now in terms of his projected stats.
06:07I'd like it to be more in line with what he was in San Francisco in 2023 and his average
06:16yards per catch in San Francisco.
06:19He was close to 18 yards a reception.
06:21That was the most incredible part about his 2023 regular season, 2023 regular season.
06:29Iuke caught 75 balls for 1,342 yards at 18, 17.9 yards per reception.
06:36So maybe I need a little bit more from him in year one, but the combination of he and Terry
06:43and Chig and whatever they've got coming out of the backfield and whatever they got running game wise, if you
06:48could put together, you know, 150 receptions between Terry and Iuke, that'd be pretty good.
06:53That'd be really good.
06:56140 receptions between the two of them somewhere in the neighborhood of, you know, 17, 1800 yards, somewhere around there.
07:05I think we'd take that 12 combined touchdowns.
07:09Iuke, by the way, in 2023, 75 catches, 1342, seven touchdowns on the 17.9 yards per reception.
07:20He was really good that year.
07:23He also led the 49ers and led the NFC in first down receptions that season.
07:30How about that?
07:32I didn't know that part.
07:34Yeah, he moved the chains a lot with, you know, Brock Purdy.
07:40And remember that year, Sam Darnold was quarterbacking some of that team when Purdy was hurt.
07:47Right?
07:48I'm pretty sure he did.
07:50Didn't Purdy miss a couple of games and Sam Darnold was the backup or am I thinking of a different
07:55backup for them?
07:56Was it Josh Johnson?
07:58It was Mac Jones, I think, is who you're thinking of.
08:01No, Sam Darnold.
08:02In 23?
08:04In 23.
08:05Oh, yes, that was Sam.
08:07Yeah.
08:0722 was Garoppolo.
08:12Yes.
08:13And Purdy.
08:14Yeah, because Purdy, yeah.
08:1624 is the season you're thinking of.
08:19It was, no, it wasn't even Josh Johnson.
08:22It was Josh Dobbs.
08:24Oh, man.
08:24What a run on backup quarterbacks the Niners have had.
08:28I feel like Josh Johnson's been everywhere.
08:32He's pretty much been everywhere.
08:33Literally, yeah.
08:34And some twice.
08:37Josh Johnson's career, man, is really...
08:40It's a long list of teams.
08:43Not to mention, I'm pretty sure he played in that UFL, too.
08:47Sure did.
08:49Where is he right now?
08:51What team is he on now?
08:52Cincinnati?
08:53Right.
08:54Oh, my God.
08:55Look at his resume.
08:58It's unbelievable.
08:59It's unbelievable.
08:59He got drafted in the fifth round by Tampa in 2008.
09:05Tampa Bay, 49ers.
09:07The Sacramento Mountain Lions have no idea.
09:11Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Francisco, back to Cincinnati.
09:14Jets, Colts, Bills, Ravens, Giants, Texans, Raiders.
09:18Then here's the thing that I remembered.
09:20San Diego Fleet.
09:21I think they were in the UFL.
09:23Yes.
09:24Then the Redskins in 2018.
09:26Lions, LA Wildcats.
09:28The AAF.
09:30My apologies.
09:31AAF.
09:3249ers, Jets, Ravens, Broncos, 49ers, Ravens, Washington again, obviously, last year.
09:38And now in Cincinnati as a 40-year-old.
09:41What has he made during his career?
09:44I don't think it's a Chase Daniel career.
09:47Because Chase Daniel got paid a couple times as the premier backup, if not a borderline starter.
09:54He's in the Andrew Brandt NFL Business Hall of Fame, all-time business Hall of Fame, making so much money
10:03without ever really playing much.
10:05I can't imagine there's been a player that's been to this many teams.
10:12And so many of these teams more than once.
10:15Google AI overview says 13.46 million over his career.
10:21Has he played as a quarterback for more teams than anybody else?
10:26Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
10:27I can confidently say that he has.
10:32It looks like, if you count up every team, it looks like he played for at least half the league.
10:36Because several of those teams are two and three times.
10:42Cincinnati, Washington, Baltimore, San Francisco, Denver, the Jets, the Lions.
10:46Top player with the most franchised NFL history include Josh Johnson, number one at 14 teams.
10:50Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown, Andre Roberts, nine teams.
10:54So it's not even close.
10:55Yeah, he's number one.
10:56Number one by far.
10:5714 teams.
10:59Josh Johnson's played for.
11:01Jay Gruden, I've mentioned this before.
11:04Jay Gruden told me that Josh Johnson's one of the smartest players that he ever coached.
11:10And that's what happens when you are that smart.
11:13And, oh, by the way, a really good dude, which apparently Josh Johnson is, teams want you in their locker
11:22room.
11:22Period.
11:23They want you in their quarterback room.
11:26And no matter how many starts you have in your career, and I'll find that out in a second, it
11:33doesn't matter.
11:34You're going to keep getting paid.
11:35If you're smart and you're a really good team guy.
11:39And for him, never demanding, never demanded anything and kind of was okay with his role.
11:46So, you know, he, in, in seven, in 10, how many years, hold on.
11:55So ultimately, he's only played in 10 NFL seasons because of the other leagues and time off.
12:03He's only started 11 games in his career.
12:10Two and nine is a starter.
12:12How did we get on Josh Johnson?
12:14I have no idea.
12:16Kevin Sheehan showed the team 980 and the team 980.com.
