00:00This from Denny. Denny wrote me last week. I think I may have read this on Friday's show. I'll read
00:07it again.
00:08Denny wrote, I'm getting sick and tired of wide receiver all the time talk.
00:13From Iuke and Diggs to the latest on the Patriots receiver to the mindless back and forth between you and
00:20the fans on Terry McLaurin.
00:22It's just too much. Wide receivers are far off the what's important grid.
00:27QB O-line running game defense. That's the list.
00:31We don't need any of the guys you incessantly talk about.
00:35Don't you know? We already have the 14th best receiver in the league, LOL.
00:41Kevin, I can't believe our fans are crushing you for saying Drake London over Terry.
00:45Any fan that wouldn't take Drake London over Terry doesn't know ball.
00:49Yeah, that's not really important to this conversation.
00:53Denny, by the way, mentioned the Patriots receiver situation last week.
00:56We did talk about Kayshawn Booty on Friday's show and the possibility of New England trading him because of the
01:05A.J. Brown trade, because of Romeo Dobbs being signed.
01:08We'll see.
01:09Sorry, Denny.
01:10As much as I'd love the next conversation about Brandon Iyuk or the receiver position in general to be about,
01:18you know, either getting ready for the season opener with the guys we have or about the addition, the official
01:26news that Iyuk's available.
01:28Washington signed him or Stefan Diggs signed or there's a trade for Booty or somebody else.
01:34As much as I'd love that to be the next conversation, it can't be after Brandon Iyuk posted three times
01:41over the weekend on Instagram.
01:44So, if you weren't following this, and why would you?
01:47Some of you are because I saw it light up my timeline on X over the weekend.
01:54But Brandon Iyuk posted on three different occasions over the weekend.
02:00This follows, remember, last week, the arrest warrant out for misdemeanor traffic violation going all the way back to December.
02:12Yes, I'm still a little bit like, why did it take them that long?
02:17I don't know.
02:17I can't answer that.
02:19And then, of course, he posted himself driving a Mercedes-Benz around an actual racetrack.
02:27So, this guy was kind of not, you know, reachable for a while.
02:32And I guess the 49ers still haven't reached him.
02:35But he is now certainly turning himself into a June spectacle at this point.
02:41So, the first Instagram post of the weekend was him without a shirt on, but with a Washington Commanders baseball
02:52cap, taking a picture of himself.
02:58And he then, that was number one.
03:01So, there he is looking into a mirror, it would appear, with a Washington Commanders burgundy hat with the W
03:09on it, taking a picture of himself.
03:12And then, we got a second post of him holding up a football with a Washington Commanders cap on.
03:21And he writes in that particular tweet,
03:26X, the cap, the gig is up.
03:31So, this takes some translation for some of us.
03:34My son immediately sent it to me and said it was a reference to Drake and Jay-Z's current rivalry.
03:42He's essentially saying, stop the cap, stop what you're doing, 49ers, stop lying, 49ers, stop, you know, making stuff up.
03:54The gig is up.
03:56And so, that apparently is the reference.
04:01And then, there was more.
04:03He then put out an Instagram video.
04:08How long is it, Max?
04:10So, it was about a minute 30, but I got it cut down to just around a minute 10.
04:15Okay.
04:16So, he is, you know, videotaping himself.
04:21And here's what he said.
04:22We're dealing with, you know, like them kids when they don't get picked for the basketball game at the court.
04:32But they're the ones that brought the ball.
04:34So, they're like, all right.
04:36You don't want to pick me?
04:37I'm taking my ball.
04:38I'm going home.
04:39Or like, when your kid, he got this one toy, but he don't really know how to use it correctly.
04:45So, somebody else about to pick it up and play with it.
04:49And they're like, oh, yeah, this lady.
04:51And they're like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:53Hold on.
04:53That's my toy.
04:55Man, stop running from the belt.
04:57The belt coming.
04:59I'm scared.
05:00They're scared.
05:01The truth is, they're scared.
05:03They know how I get.
05:04They're going to say, oh, yeah, B.A., B.A., B.A. did this, B.A. did that, B.A.
05:11did, you know, that allegedly, allegedly.
05:14But what they're not going to say is, B.A. suck at football because they know how I get.
05:19And they're running from that belt that's on the way.
05:22It's inevitable.
05:23It's coming.
05:24Stop running.
05:25Stop being a female dog.
05:27Stop being a little cat.
05:29Stop running from the belt.
05:32Stop running from the belt.
05:34Look, I'd love it if he gave the belt to the 49ers when they play him this year.
05:40I don't even know where to start with all of this.
05:46It is, on one hand, you know, great fodder for June.
05:51We are still three months away from anything that's real in the NFL.
05:59Everything from this point forward, as I talk about every year, is basically B.S.
06:04unless somebody gets injured, seriously, or there's some major acquisition.
06:09That's real substance this time of year, and that's it.
06:12You know, the preseason hero usually doesn't end up playing that much in the regular season more times than not.
06:20Look, this guy now has kind of a track record of making a spectacle of himself this time of year.
06:31He did it during his contract negotiation during the summer of 2024, which was, you know,
06:39I think most adults could say probably not the most professional way to handle it.
06:45He ended up getting a great deal, and then he got injured early in 24,
06:49and that was unfortunate for him.
06:51Look, if he doesn't get injured in 24, and he ends up going on to have a great 2024, another
06:582025,
06:59what are we talking about?
07:00He's not available because he was definitely an ascending player and a really good player,
07:04and it's the reason the 49ers signed him to the deal that they signed him to,
07:09because they thought he was a really good player and getting better at his age.
07:14But obviously, that relationship has gone to hell in a hand bucket.
07:18There's no doubt about it.
07:19It's gone completely south.
07:21We don't know from afar the specific reasons,
07:26but if you just take what we do know, it doesn't make him look very good.
07:33At this point, I don't really have anything of substance that says the 49ers are being childish,
07:42which is what that was about, that rant, is that they are being children, and they are being petty.
07:50I don't have any actual evidence of that yet.
07:54What they're doing right now is just business.
07:57From my standpoint, that's my opinion, what we do know is that this guy gave up essentially guaranteed money
08:07in the range of between $27 and I think $40 million.
08:11That number hasn't been identified specifically in terms of the amount that was voided.
08:16It should be out there, but even the guy from SpotTrack that we had on a while back was in
08:22the mid-30s,
08:23and I've heard $27 and I've heard $39, the bottom line is rather than running your mouth on Instagram,
08:31why aren't you trying to get that money if they were the problem?
08:35If they did something wrong and you didn't do anything wrong,
08:40and they're acting like children and they need to stop the lying, the gig is up,
08:48why aren't you chasing down that money with the help of a lawyer,
08:54with the help of the NFL Players Association?
08:58I'll repeat this for like the 30th time over the last couple of months.
09:03The amount of money that he had voided by his team,
09:09guaranteed voided money, is unprecedented.
09:14It's never happened before in the history of the league,
09:17certainly since the salary cap era began.
09:22No one's ever had that much money voided from their contract
09:26and then not fought it.
09:28The not fighting it, the not going after it is a big tell on who's at fault.
09:35Now, are there other reasons for the rift?
09:38Of course there could be.
09:39The only thing we know is that this guy didn't do what he was supposed to do contractually
09:47and it enabled the 49ers to do something that's never been done contractually in league history.
09:54Void that much guaranteed money.
09:57And then there was no response.
10:01There hasn't been any way at this point.
10:03Maybe it's coming.
10:03But the fact that there hasn't been any response is a bit of an admission of,
10:10yeah, they were allowed to do that based on my actions,
10:14or in this case, inaction, needing to show up at the facility every once in a while
10:18so that they could see he was alive and they could look at his knee
10:22because he wasn't having the rehab done with the 49ers.
10:28So, stop the lying, stop the gig, you're being children, let me go when the belt is coming.
10:38That's great.
10:39How about show us that, you know, with actions that it wasn't your fault and get your money back.
10:47If it wasn't your fault, you should be able to get your money back.
10:50If it was your fault, fine.
10:53The next time we hear you talk should be after your first game
10:57or after the team that signed you signed you.
11:01I don't like this guy from afar.
11:04I like him on the field, though.
11:06I did in 23 and in 22.
11:09And no, I'm not out on him.
11:11In terms of wanting an upgrade at wide receiver, wanting more firepower on offense,
11:19I still want that.
11:22And if they think, again, this goes back to a consistent thing for me,
11:27if they think he is physically right and mentally right,
11:33and they can do it in a very low-risk, prove-it-deal environment, I'm for it.
11:40But I think the more and more I get from him, the more and more,
11:44going back to the summer of 2024, is there is a bit of narcissism here
11:49that is troubling, not that that's an issue and a disqualifier,
11:54because if that were a disqualifier, we'd disqualify a lot of great players in the NFL.
12:00If, you know, being innately bright were an absolute must,
12:06we'd be disqualifying a lot of great players in the league right now
12:11and in the history of the league.
12:12So none of those things matter to me if he's physically able
12:18and if he's mentally stable.
12:21Now, as it relates to the 49ers situation,
12:25I think this is an interesting part of the conversation.
12:27We've had a little bit, not a lot, but we've had it on occasion.
12:31I know that it's probably, I'm going to guess that it's probably 50-50 with people.
12:37You know, are the 49ers being childish, as he said,
12:40or are they doing something that they absolutely should be doing?
12:45Meaning, it's very obvious that he's never going to play for them again.
12:49I mean, I say never.
12:51I guess we should never say never.
12:53He is under contract.
12:55He's on the reserve left team list.
12:58He should have shown up for one of those, you know, voluntary OTAs.
13:04He should have.
13:04They canceled their minicamp.
13:06By the way, for those of you suggesting that they canceled their minicamp
13:09so he wouldn't show up to something that was mandatory,
13:12you know, we've seen more cancellations of minicamps in recent years for teams.
13:17So I'm not ready to make that leap.
13:19I can't imagine that they would cancel a minicamp
13:23and the potential to further enhance whatever they're doing in their offseason for him.
13:29But the question here is, do you think, as he suggested,
13:35the 49ers are being petty, being childish by not letting him go right now?
13:43Well, my view on this has not changed even with this, you know,
13:48incredibly, you know, eloquent Instagram post.
13:53If that's my team in terms of who I root for, based on what I know,
13:59and we had somebody on from San Francisco, Matt Maioco, we had on on Friday, right?
14:05Was it Friday, Max?
14:06I think it was.
14:07That's right.
14:07He's covered the 49ers in the Bay Area forever.
14:10And you could tell, like, he doesn't know what's going on
14:14and that the team doesn't really have a good sense for where he is physically,
14:19mentally, or anything else.
14:20He did basically give all of us or all of you and me who were listening to him
14:27a bit of a warning, like, be careful.
14:30This guy may not be completely with it.
14:33But in terms of, you know, forget about who's at fault.
14:40Based on what we know, he's at fault, or they'd be fighting for that money back.
14:45I think that's a simple deductive, you know, reasoning process.
14:51I mean, if he was wronged by the 49ers, where's the fight to get that money back?
14:58Maybe it's coming.
15:00Maybe it is.
15:00The NFLPA would have come out strongly against the voiding of guaranteed money
15:07had it been done in an inaccurate or unfair way.
15:12Nobody's pushed back on it at all.
15:15That makes it unprecedented times two.
15:18Unprecedented the amount that was voided.
15:20Unprecedented that the player that had the dollars taken away didn't fight it.
15:28From my standpoint, if I'm a 49ers fan, I'm simply looking at what's best for my team and my team
15:36only.
15:37Okay?
15:38Yeah, he's a young person.
15:40Yeah, he may be mentally unstable.
15:42He may be going through something.
15:44There may be some serious issues here.
15:46Um, and I wish I had all the data so I can make this, you know, uh, have this opinion
15:52with, with more information.
15:53But based on the information that I have, if it were my team, I wouldn't even think about doing him
16:01any favors.
16:03If it was disadvantage, it was disadvantaging my team.
16:09From my team's standpoint, if I still think there's a chance he's physically healthy and can play,
16:16why would I let him sign with Washington in June?
16:22Rather than sign with Washington at the, at the latest possible point that I can impact, which would be, you
16:30know, late in the afternoon or early in the morning on September 1st or late in the afternoon on August
16:3431st.
16:36Why would I want to give him a, you know, a full training camp with his new team?
16:41San Francisco plays Washington on Monday night football, October 19th.
16:47If they think he, he still has something left and I would bet that they probably still think he's capable.
16:54It was only two years ago that they gave him the massive deal.
16:57If he's healthy, they probably think he can still do it.
17:01Why would I give Washington this player so that he can come back and hurt me in week seven or
17:08week six?
17:10I'm not giving any team in my conference a competitive advantage.
17:15I'm going to give them the least amount of advantage as possible.
17:19Not to mention the fact that after we gave him all of that money, even though we were able to
17:25get a lot of it back,
17:26we still paid a lot out for not many services rendered because he got hurt.
17:33Why wouldn't I wait to see how training camps go?
17:37Somebody might get desperate.
17:39Somebody absolutely could get desperate and say, I'm willing to pay him the 27 million this year and give up
17:48a late round pick.
17:50No one's willing to do that right now.
17:52No one is going to do that right now.
17:54There are too many.
17:54There are too many question marks.
17:56Number one, his physical and mental status.
18:00Number two is that his contract is just too onerous to take on via a trade.
18:08You'd much rather be able to see him cut, give up no compensation, and be able to strike the deal
18:14that's much more in the team's favor,
18:17which is what everybody would want to do.
18:19And it would certainly seem that Washington is his preference.
18:22I mean, I guess I buried the lead a little bit from those Instagram posts, but the truth is we've
18:29known it anyway,
18:30that Washington is his destination.
18:33That's what he wants.
18:35He wants to come here.
18:39But if I were the 49ers, if I were a fan of the 49ers, I would not deem their behavior
18:46to be childish.
18:47I would view it as the right thing for the team.
18:52There's still a chance we could get a day three pick in what's supposedly a loaded 2027 draft.
18:58If there are injuries in the preseason, if there are injuries over the next two and a half months,
19:03we could really perhaps end up getting something for him.
19:07Maybe it would be from an AFC team.
19:09We'd prefer him in the AFC.
19:11And then we're not turning him loose right now, letting him go to Washington and have a full offseason.
19:19That's my position.
19:20What's yours?
19:22Are the 49ers being childish in the way they're handling it?
19:26Or are they doing the right thing for their organization?
19:28Are they doing the wrong thing?
19:28What's yours?
19:28time.
