00:00All right, we're ready for the next bout of the night here at the War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
00:05Let's send it up to Mr. Double Duty, Thomas Treiber.
00:09Ladies and gentlemen, right now at this time, let's welcome to the ring, fighting tonight out of the blue corner, Steve Marquez.
00:19And there you see Steve Marquez, who hails from Fort Morgan, Colorado.
00:25And this is the farthest east he has come during his professional career.
00:30He has fought in venues in Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, and Kansas.
00:36Now he makes his way up to Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
00:40Comes in with a record of 9-14-1 with six knockouts.
00:45On a bit of a skid, hopes to turn things around tonight.
00:48His record in his last nine fights is 2-7.
00:52His last outing was in August.
00:54A four-round decision victory over Chris Hill in Denver, Colorado.
01:04And Steve Marquez is facing Terence Crawford, and he admits he's facing an unknown commodity.
01:11It's pretty tough, because you've got to figure him out the first round.
01:13And if you don't, then the rest of the fight's harder to figure him out the rest of the fight.
01:18You know, so let's see how it works out.
01:21And that was the words of Steve Marquez talking about his opponent, Terence Crawford, who comes into the ring now.
01:28We send it back up to Thomas Trimer.
01:30And now, ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome to the ring, fighting tonight out of the red corner, Terence Crawford.
01:40And finally, through the curtains comes Terence Crawford.
01:46In the blue, he comes in with a record of 8-0, five stoppages, and he is a bit of an anomaly.
01:53He is a legitimate prospect out of Omaha, Nebraska.
01:56He is 22 years old, wants to be on the fast track.
02:00He began his career in 2008 with five victories.
02:04He is thought of as a very, very, very solid boxer puncher.
02:09So entering into the ring right now is Terence Crawford wearing the black and silver from Omaha, Nebraska.
02:17A lot of anticipation here with TKO Boxing Promotions over the bright young prospect.
02:21As we talked about, Terence Crawford is signed by TKO Boxing Promotions and managed by Cameron Duncan.
02:31Crawford talks about his development and early progress.
02:35Well, I think it's getting kind of slow, you know what I'm saying?
02:38I think I should be moving a little faster, but I got a good manager and a lot of people behind me that believe in me.
02:45So whatever they say, I just listen to what they say.
02:48So the stage is set for our next bout of the evening.
02:52We send it back up to Thomas Schreimer.
02:57Ladies and gentlemen, Chet Kerner's TKO Boxing Promotions proudly presents four rounds in the lightweight division.
03:05And when the bell rings, our referee in charge of the action will be Ernie Sharif.
03:14Introducing to you first, fighting to my left in the blue corner,
03:18he's wearing navy blue trunks with silver trim and weighed in at 137 pounds.
03:25Coming to us from Arvada, Colorado,
03:28he brings with him a professional record of nine wins, 14 defeats,
03:34one draw with six wins coming by way of knockout.
03:39Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Steve Marquez.
03:43And his opponent across the ring tonight, fighting out of the red corner,
03:51he's wearing black trunks with white trim and also weighed in at exactly 137 pounds.
03:59Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, he is undefeated with eight wins and five of his eight wins coming by way of knockout.
04:10Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Terrence Crawford.
04:15All right, fellas, you see the instructions in the dressing room.
04:22Now we take a look at the matchup between Terrence Crawford and Steve Marquez.
04:27Crawford comes in at 5'8 1⁄2", Marquez at 5'6".
04:30They both weighed in at 137.
04:32And the reach, huge advantage for Crawford, 73 and a quarter, Marquez 66 and a half.
04:37And the reach, 27 and a half for Crawford, 25 and a half for Marquez.
04:42That is the fight reach.
04:44Crawford is 22 years old, Marquez a veteran at age 29.
04:48So there you have it in the lightweight division, four rounds,
04:51Terrence Crawford taking on Steve Marquez.
04:53Ernie Sharif calls for the bell and we begin round number one.
05:00Terrence Crawford, Steve Marquez.
05:07Thomas has been talking to Marquez yesterday.
05:09It's interesting, even though he comes in at 135, he has fought as high as 160,
05:13which is amazing to me that at one point this guy fought as a middleweight.
05:18Yeah, that is surprising.
05:19He's not that tall either.
05:20And tonight he's got his hands full against Terrence Crawford.
05:24And Terrence Crawford had a stellar amateur career.
05:28Off to a great start now as a pro.
05:318-0, 5 knockouts.
05:32And immediately you could see a sharp right hand there from Crawford
05:35who doubles up on the left hook to the body and the head.
05:38Immediately the hand speed of Crawford is very, very evident.
05:41There's a right hand in the left hook landed by Crawford.
05:50See the nice jab there by Crawford, which often sets up the right hand.
05:57There's a right hand by Marquez.
05:59Steve Marquez, last fought in August, had an amateur career himself of about 100 fights.
06:08And a left!
06:09Big left hook off of a right hand.
06:11Down goes Steve Marquez crashing to the canvas.
06:15Six, seven, seven, seven.
06:16Well, he got up quickly, Steve, but there you got a taste of what Terrence Crawford has.
06:23He has some power and speed.
06:25And there's a right hand right on the button.
06:27Down goes Marquez again for the second time.
06:30Ernie Sharif giving the mandatory eight count.
06:32So Terrence Crawford thus far, Tom, as good as advertised.
06:35Absolutely.
06:39It'll be an interesting thing here to see if he tries to finish him.
06:46Crawford moves in.
06:47Misses with a couple of power shots.
06:49Marquez trying to survive round number one.
06:51You'd have to think a third knockdown in this fight would be over.
06:54There's a left hook again.
06:55Just misses from Crawford.
06:56Crawford again doubles up with the left hook.
06:59You can really see the power in Crawford's punches.
07:01Because now he's got Marquez in the corner where he does not want to be.
07:07And you can see Crawford letting both hands go here.
07:10Marquez corners.
07:12Now he sees himself in a southpaw position.
07:14Does Terrence Crawford.
07:17Crawford with a straight left and a couple right hands with the body.
07:20Both men digging hard downstairs.
07:23And down goes Marquez once again.
07:27And Ernie Sharif is going to give the mandatory eight count once again.
07:31There is no three knockdown rule.
07:33But you know what?
07:34That is absolutely not needed.
07:36This fight is over.
07:37And I think Terrence Crawford, Tom, was as good as advertised.
07:40Marvelous performance.
07:42Great job.
07:43Showed blazing hand speed and some nice power as well.
07:47Terrence Crawford comes in highly touted.
07:49And he absolutely delivers.
07:51The drilling.
07:52The tough Steve Marquez who's fought as high as a middleweight three times in round number one.
07:57And let's take a look at some of the action.
08:00Short yet explosive for Mr. Crawford.
08:03There you see Marquez in the corner.
08:05And this was all she wrote right here, Steve.
08:08I'll tell you one thing that's impressive though, Tom.
08:09Look at the head movement in between the offensive assault of Terrence Crawford.
08:12Offense and defense at the same time.
08:15Very nice.
08:16Good movement.
08:17And I believe, Tom, this may have been the last knockdown when he went southpaw.
08:22And you can see him countering right there.
08:24And I think it may have been a right hook that ended up sending Marquez.
08:28Well, actually, there was a lot of things.
08:29It was the left and right.
08:31He had his way.
08:31And there was an uppercut and a right hook that just misses.
08:34Marquez was game but simply overmatched.
08:36Absolutely.
08:37You can see it from the onset of this fight.
08:40Crawford hurt him quickly.
08:41And he was never able to rebound.
08:43And this was the first knockdown.
08:45A mesmerizing left hook.
08:47And you can see how disappointed Marquez was to go down right there,
08:51pounding his glove on the canvas.
08:54And, Thomas, I believe here this was the second knockdown of Steve Marquez
08:58from Terrence Crawford.
09:00You can see here a nice jab followed by a right hand, Steve.
09:03Textbook.
09:04Yeah, textbook indeed.
09:05The most basic, simple, fundamental combination you could throw
09:08is the jab right cross.
09:09And it landed right on the button.
09:12All right, so Terrence Crawford, as good as advertised,
09:14he is now 9-0 with six knockouts.
09:16We come back.
09:17We wrap it up between Crawford and Marquez.
09:24And it was short, sweet, and explosive for Terrence Crawford.
09:27Let's get the official announcement from our ring announcer, Thomas Trimer.
09:33Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
09:36Two minutes, 35 seconds of round number one.
09:40Your winner by technical knockout, and still undefeated, Terrence Crawford.
09:47And there you have it.
09:54Terrence Crawford goes to 9-0, notching his sixth knockout.
09:58And he was certainly as good as advertised.
10:01We take a look at some of the stuff that happened in a very, very eventful round number one.
10:05There's the first knockdown, a pulverizing left hook right on the chin.
10:09And then you take a look at the second knockdown as the offensive assault continued for Terrence Crawford out of Omaha, Nebraska.
10:15Textbook right hand.
10:16You see it straight as a button and landing on target.
10:19That was the second trip to the canvas.
10:21And here's the third and final knockdown from Mr. Crawford himself against Steve Marquez.
10:27An offensive assault like we talked about before.
10:30Two-fisted action from the southpaw stance.
10:32And Ernie Sharif at that point had no choice but to call off the action.
10:36Thomas Trimer is with the victorious Terrence Crawford.
10:41All right.
10:41Thank you, Steve.
10:42Terrence, congratulations on your win here tonight.
10:45It was quick work.
10:47Your thoughts on the fight?
10:48Well, I thought it was all right.
10:50I got a little anxious when I got him on the ropes to try to get the stoppage.
10:54But that's due to, you know, I'm not fighting since May.
10:58But I'm going to go back in the gym, work harder.
11:00I'll be better next time.
11:02You put together a nice combination of punches.
11:04You also showed some really good power.
11:07Were you surprised you put him down so quickly?
11:09No, I wasn't surprised.
11:11I knew once I caught him, he was going down or he was going to get stunned.
11:14So it didn't surprise me.
11:16At what point did you think you had this fight in the back?
11:20Well, when it first started.
11:21Okay, good answer.
11:23When are we going to see you again?
11:25You're moving along very nicely.
11:27How soon do you expect to be back in the ring?
11:30Well, I'm going to leave that up to my manager and my promoters.
11:34Whatever they tell me.
11:36Congratulations, your winner.
11:38Now 9-0.
11:40Back to you ringside, Steve.
11:41So there you have it.
11:42He walks the walk and he talks the talk.
11:45And you take a look at some of the action that took place.
11:47He speaks softly and carries a big stick.
11:49First, the left hook sends Marquez down to the canvas for the first of three knockdowns.
11:54Then it was a picture-perfect textbook right hand right on target of Steve Marquez for the second knockdown.
12:01And then you had the coup de grace, the finishing assault from Terrence Crawford.
12:07This time, split-shitting from the left-handed stand, both left and right-handed, sending him down.
12:13And Ernie Sharif would have no choice but the other.
