00:00There's been a lot of talk already about how hot it is going to be this week.
00:04Exceptionally hot is the answer, particularly across parts of England and Wales.
00:08Currently, there's high pressure to the east of us, and it's this that's shifting a little bit further away,
00:14allowing for hotter air to come in from the south as we go through Wednesday and Thursday.
00:17That's when we're likely to see the peak of this heat.
00:20But don't forget, we do still have an amber extreme heat warning across many parts of England and Wales through
00:26today
00:26because we are going to see some very difficult, warm, hot conditions with high humidity as well.
00:32But weather-wise, well, we have some showery rain across parts of the southeast.
00:36A bit of uncertainty about that, but that should clear through during the morning.
00:40Otherwise, we have a bit of rain across the far north of Scotland at times, perhaps clipping northwest in Scotland.
00:46Generally, though, it's looking largely dry. Plenty of fine, sunny weather around.
00:50But as I said, it is going to be very hot. Temperatures peaking in the mid, possibly high 30s towards
00:55the south.
00:56There's a reasonable chance today is going to be the hottest June day on record.
01:00We only need to get above 35.6 for that to happen.
01:04The hot weather perhaps won't be as widespread as to affect parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland too badly.
01:10But nonetheless, here temperatures will be in the mid to high 20s, so feeling pretty hot.
01:15Later on through the evening, it stays mostly dry.
01:18A little bit of drizzly rain perhaps towards the northwest of Scotland.
01:21But most places sticking with the high pressure dominating, so lots of dry, clear weather.
01:26Could be the odd pocket of mist and fog here and there, but on the whole, most of us will
01:30stick with the clear skies.
01:32Don't be fooled, though. Those clear skies don't mean that temperatures are going to drop particularly low.
01:36Because we have such high humidity across us, those temperatures are going to stay very high.
01:42Most places in the north-northwest are feeling a bit more comfortable, perhaps mid-teens the minima here.
01:48But some parts across England in particular staying above 20 Celsius.
01:52A tropical night and then some.
01:53Some places could stay as high as maybe 22, 23, perhaps 24 Celsius.
01:58Factor in just how humid and muggy it's going to be.
02:01Really difficult for sleeping, but we could even have some warmer nights to come.
02:07Later, as we go into Wednesday, we do stick with a bit of drizzly rain across the far northwest of
02:12Scotland.
02:13But most places, again, having a largely dry day.
02:16Plenty of sunshine and we're going to see that heat building and building and building.
02:20So temperatures on Wednesday are set to be even higher than today.
02:24We're looking at highs quite widely in parts of the south in the mid, possibly high 30s, 38, 39, possibly
02:30even hotter than that.
02:32So an exceptionally hot day.
02:33Even if today's the hottest June day or record, I think we're going to exceed that again through tomorrow.
02:39So it really is a very hot spell indeed.
02:42Towards the northwest, similar temperatures really to today.
02:45So mid, possibly high 20s for some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:50As we look ahead now towards Thursday and again, high pressure still firmly in control.
02:55So there's some wet weather across parts of Scotland that could be quite heavy, maybe even a bit thundery, but
03:00most places having a lot of dry weather.
03:03It's worth highlighting that with all the high heat, the high humidity, there's the potential that we could see some
03:08showers developing, but uncertainty about this.
03:10And there's also uncertainty about exactly how much cloud there is.
03:13But there's the high potential that we're going to see the hot air spreading from the south and pushing further
03:18northwards.
03:19So the exceptionally high temperatures will be more widespread across England and Wales and some of that hot air, extremely
03:25hot air, pushing into southern parts of Scotland as well.
03:28So Thursday could more widely see temperatures getting into the high 30s.
03:33Again, highs of 38, 39 Celsius look quite likely.
03:37We do then have a couple more extreme heat warnings.
03:40We have a larger amber one currently across pretty much the whole of England and Wales, and then this red
03:45one, which covers more central southern parts of England and parts of south-southeast Wales as well.
03:51It's because within this area, we have the greatest cause for concern when you take heat stress into account, factoring
03:56in the high temperatures, the high humidity, really undifficult conditions both by day and by night.
04:02These warnings are likely to get tweaked and updated, so do stay on top of them and make sure you're
04:06staying safe in this hot weather.
