00:00Good morning, happy Valentine's Day, and the weather does have a bit of a gift for you today, with lots
00:05of sunshine, lots of blue sky.
00:08Worth noting though, it is a cold, frosty, icy start for many of us, some difficult, slippery conditions first thing.
00:15But then, yes, there will be lots of sunshine around, more sunshine than most of us have seen so far
00:21this year.
00:22Worth highlighting, a bit of cloud, perhaps a few showers over parts of East Anglia, and a bit of rain,
00:27and maybe even some winteriness affecting the Northern Isles.
00:30Otherwise, dry and sunny through the morning, and then cloud building in from the west as we go through the
00:35afternoon.
00:36Initially, high-level cloud, just turning the sunshine a bit milky, a bit hazy, but then thicker cloud arriving, and
00:41the wind's picking up in the west as well, before a weather system arrives in later on.
00:46Yes, it's cold, it's icy this morning, and there's always going to be a bit of a chill in the
00:51air, with temperatures a few degrees below average, even for the time of year.
00:56But many of us would take that cold weather for the fact that we have some decent sunshine on offer
01:01as well.
01:02Then later on, we are going to see the weather system in the west making its way eastwards across the
01:07country, and as it hits that cold air across us, quite readily we're going to see some sleet, some snow.
01:12So, particularly over higher ground towards the north, but maybe even to some lower levels, and on the eastern edge
01:18of it, the leading edge of that system, more likely to see some snow before it turns to rain again,
01:23as it's pushing its way across.
01:25We could see some significant snow building up over modest higher ground of northern England and Scotland, we're talking 10
01:31-15 centimetres, maybe above 400 metres or so, and even to lower levels in the north of the UK, there
01:37could be some snow accumulating, so that could cause some disruption, particularly first thing on Sunday morning.
01:42But all that's clearing through, with then showery rain mainly following in behind, after an initially cold and perhaps frosty,
01:51icy start to the night, as this system pushes its way in, I am expecting temperatures to actually lift a
01:56little bit, so a less cold start to the day on Sunday compared to this morning for sure.
02:02Then the more persistent rain, sleet and snow, clears away towards the east as we go through tomorrow morning, and
02:07then we have showers following in behind.
02:09There could be a swathe of more persistent rain, which could be quite heavy, pushing across parts of Wales into
02:14central, southern, southwestern England.
02:16Watch out for that, could cause some problems.
02:18Otherwise, it's, yeah, a day of showers pushing through.
02:21There will be some sunny breaks in between the showers, so not as grey as what it has been through
02:25much of January, through much of February, but nonetheless, it's going to be a wetter, more unsettled day than today.
02:31For many of us, with that, temperatures, well, they are a little bit higher, slightly milder air across us, so
02:37a greater chance of getting into double figures, particularly towards the southwest.
02:41But, yeah, there will be less sunshine on offer for sure.
02:45Then, as we go into next week, well, there's more changeable weather to come.
02:49Low pressure are often nearby.
02:51The position of the low, slightly different to what we've kind of become accustomed to.
02:54Generally, recent weeks have brought low pressure to the west, southwest of us.
02:57It looks like the main one, as we go through Monday and into Tuesday, will be towards the north-northeast,
03:02so that will change exactly where we see the showery rain coming through.
03:05And then there may be something drier later Tuesday into Wednesday before another system arise, but detail on that, well,
03:12we'll need to firm up on nearer the time.
