00:00I want to start, though, with your opinion.
00:03If you were the GM of the Cleveland Browns, Ashley Bastock,
00:07would you pay $7,000 for that?
00:10No, would you put a supplemental bid for the Browns
00:16on behalf of Brennan Sorsby?
00:18For me, the answer has not changed,
00:21and I very strongly believe the Browns need to stay away
00:26from Brennan Sorsby.
00:28I would not use even a day-three pick on him
00:32in the supplemental draft.
00:33I mean, I think he is far too close to his gambling addiction
00:38to know for sure that he is going to stay away from gambling
00:44by the time you get him in the building.
00:46And the thing is, one flip-up with this,
00:49and it could mean a league banishment.
00:51Like, the potential for punishment is so great
00:55with even one small flip-up.
00:57I do not think it is worth it.
00:59I don't think the talent comes close to outweighing the risk.
01:02And I think the last thing this Cleveland Browns team needs right now
01:06is yet another self-inflicted distraction.
01:09We've seen them do it year after year,
01:12and I know they think of themselves as a place
01:14where guys can get second chances.
01:16I would say it has worked and it has not worked.
01:20We've seen it go both ways over the last five years.
01:22But I think there's so much noise around this quarterback competition already,
01:28you cannot afford to add any more.
01:32So I still say I would not use any pick on him in the supplemental draft.
01:39All right.
01:39Now, do you think the Browns are going to use any pick in the supplemental draft?
01:41And that's where we differ.
01:44I mean, it sounds like, from what we know,
01:46as you guys alluded to what Mary Kay and Terry reported,
01:49it sounds like they're leaning towards not.
01:51However, you can kind of never say never in these situations.
01:55So the issue is we know their pattern with these things, right?
02:01Like I've said, they've given guys second chances before.
02:05They did a lot of due diligence on him, as Mary Kay reported,
02:09when he was potentially thinking about coming out in the 2026 draft.
02:13So we know that.
02:14I mean, I think it's going to acquire more.
02:16We know he's probably going to have a pro day.
02:18Like, it wouldn't surprise me if they go to that.
02:20I don't think it means they would for sure use a pick.
02:23But I think there is an undeniable pattern with this front office
02:27that if it's all said and done and we find out they used a pick on him,
02:31like, would it be that surprising just from everything we know about them?
02:35No.
02:36But I do still think there would be some element of a surprise
02:38because at least right now it doesn't seem likely.
02:41That's been reported.
02:42We also know what Todd Munkin said on the record at the golf outing a few weeks ago.
02:47So I think their history just makes it all murkier
02:51when we're trying to play this guessing game.
02:54Ashley, if they did take Soarsby, let's say, with a second-round pick or later,
02:59would that take them out of the running for the 2027 quarterback class?
03:05It's an interesting question because if they take him with a second-round pick,
03:10in theory, like, I think that second-round pick has the potential to be very valuable
03:15along with their two first-round picks because we know they like to wheel and deal
03:20and that would give them an opportunity to move up in the draft
03:25to potentially chase one of these quarterbacks that they really like.
03:28So you would potentially be losing a key asset in doing that, number one.
03:33And number two, I think if you take a big risk on this guy because that's what it would be,
03:38then you're doing it because you think he has franchise potential.
03:43So then the, I guess, through line of that thought is then why would you use a high draft pick
03:48on the quarterback?
03:50So that, I mean, to me it would, but it's an interesting conundrum because I think that capital,
03:56again, when it goes back to why I, Ashley, as a GM, wouldn't do this,
04:00it goes back to I think that capital is going to be more valuable in other ways in a deeper
04:05quarterback class.
04:06What do you think the league punishment is going to be on Soarsby, if any?
04:09Yeah, that's a great question, right?
04:11Because, I mean, how common has this really become in recent years?
04:14Like, I don't know that there's any precedent in recent years with sports gambling becoming...
04:19We tried making the case yesterday that Kayshawn Booty is about as good as it gets as far as precedent.
04:23Yeah, that's what I was thinking, right?
04:24And did he have a suspension when he came in?
04:27So, I don't remember all the details.
04:30I know I was reading about that the other day.
04:32I don't have it in front of me.
04:33But you do sort of wonder, like, is the NFL going to want to make an example out of this
04:39here?
04:40I mean, we've seen the reaction in college.
04:43Like, I mean, so much so that he seemed set to go back.
04:47And then all of these other schools are saying,
04:49we're not even going to play Texas Tech in anything if you guys let him play.
04:52And it caused everyone to switch course.
04:55So, I do wonder about a possible suspension because they can do that.
05:00He can be suspended by the NFL for this.
05:02We do know that part of it.
05:04I mean, I would think it's going to be something.
05:07But, like you said, Booty is kind of the only comparison here.
05:10I don't know if it's like apples to apples.
05:14Like, just given the length of time Brendan Sorsby was betting,
05:18the amount of alleged money he was using,
05:21the amount of the number of bets he placed,
05:23It's not too far behind.
05:25Like, Booty had 8,900 wagers.
05:27He got his account up to about 600,000.
05:29He did gamble on games that he played in.
05:31The difference here and the single difference here
05:33is that he was already rostered by the Patriots
05:35by the time basically everything was found out.
05:38And so he just copped to it.
05:39And then the Louisiana, the state of Louisiana that was trying to get him on charges,
05:43dropped their charges.
05:44And the NFL just kind of said, okay, that's enough.
05:46We're good here.
05:47Yeah.
05:47So, I don't know.
05:49I think there's some key differences there with that, right?
05:52But it's hard to guess, I think, what the possible suspension would be.
05:57And, like, for me, I just feel like there's so much more noise around Brendan Sorsby
06:03than there was with Keyshawn Booty.
06:05So, that, I think, could have an impact.
06:07We've seen it have an impact before when it comes to the NFL doling out suspensions.
06:12Ashley, we talk a lot of quarterbacks.
06:14I know you guys write a lot about quarterbacks.
06:17And sometimes people are surprised by that,
06:19that you would pay attention to the most important position in sports by a wide margin.
06:24But outside of that, what storylines caught your interest
06:27beyond the quarterback room and minicamp?
06:30Yeah, well, I've written a lot about the offensive line
06:33because I think there's a lot going on there.
06:36And I think there's a lot still unsettled there, potentially.
06:39But we do know, like, Todd Munkin conceded a few things, right?
06:44Like, you would hope that Spencer Fano, who you took in the top 10,
06:47is going to be ready to go.
06:48And, I mean, I think he will be ready to go.
06:50He was taking reps with the first team.
06:52They eased him in.
06:54I would still consider it an upset if he's not your starting left tackle,
06:58just given on where they drafted him
07:00and the fact that they've talked about wanting him to be their left tackle of the future.
07:05And then you also have the three guys they picked up in free agency.
07:08So, based on everything we've seen,
07:10I think Zion Johnson is going to start for you at guard, obviously.
07:14I think Titus Howard seems pretty in line to start at right tackle.
07:18And for me, the biggest question is,
07:20is Elton Jenkins going to be your starting center,
07:23or are you going to want to slide him over to guard
07:25and let Parker Brailsford, the rookie out of Alabama, start?
07:28Now, center is a weird position, I think, for a rookie,
07:31because there's a lot you're going to have to manage.
07:33And then the other guy in the mix in all this that remains interesting to me
07:37is DeJuan Jones, because we know he's had three season-ending injuries.
07:41He's coming off of a torn LCL and a torn hamstring last year,
07:46and he hasn't been able to stay durable.
07:48But I thought it was really interesting how Todd Munkin and George Warhop
07:53talked about DeJuan Jones last week.
07:55I mean, I asked George Warhop, like, the possibility of him at a swing tackle,
07:59and he said flat out, like, we're not conceding him to just being a swing tackle yet.
08:04Like, I want to see if he can compete and start.
08:07So I think that part of it's really interesting,
08:09and I think they still have some moving around to do with that O-line.
08:14But, I mean, this is like a sneaky, underrated position battle-type story for me,
08:19because no matter how you slice it, basically,
08:22there's going to be five new starters on that line.
08:24And that is, like, a huge change, I think, that maybe is going to gain more traction
08:28as we get closer to the actual season.
08:30Do you think DeJuan could win the right guard job then,
08:33like a push inside and then just take Tevin Jenkins' place?
08:36I mean, it would be interesting, right?
08:38Like, I'm curious to see if they're going to try him on the inside as well at that guard spot.
08:43And I believe Mary Kay have reported something similar, like, could they try him there?
08:49I think it's an interesting idea.
08:51I think him at right tackle, potentially, is an interesting idea.
08:54Now, Titus Howard's a veteran, and I think DeJuan has to show that he can be durable.
08:59But, I mean, Titus Howard's entering year eight, and you traded him.
09:02Like, I got to believe they really want him so he would have some ground to make up to take
09:07that job.
09:08But the possibility of playing him at guard is interesting,
09:11because that's where it seems to be the most up in the air, I would say,
09:17between Elton Jenkins, Tevin Jenkins, and Parker Brailsford at center.
09:22So throwing DeJuan in the mix there would be interesting to me, for sure,
09:26if you think you want him to start for you.
09:28Ashley, great stuff.
09:30Appreciate you.
09:30We'll catch up with you next week.
09:32All right.
09:33Thanks, guys.
09:34Don't bid on any chairs while I'm gone.
09:37I actually used your credit card, so enjoy that.
09:40Yeah, but it's Shalamats, so it's only $1,200.
09:45You can swing that.
09:46I know what Cleveland.com's paying these days, Ashley.
09:49Why don't you Venmo me for that, and we'll get it taken care of.
09:52As soon as I figure out that whole scenario, a lot of ins, a lot of outs, you'd be better.
09:58I'll tug you, huh?
09:58I've got money in different places now, Ashley.
10:00It's hard.
10:01Well, listen, you get locked in.
10:03I've got money in fiduciary bonds.
10:05Too many Swiss accounts.
10:07Over down yonder in Brazil.
10:08It's a lot, but we'll figure it out.
10:10Not actually.
10:11All right.
10:12Thanks, guys.
10:13I don't think she believes me.
