00:00here we head out to the wise heart right we make it right call kylo right hotline and welcome on
00:04of the mmqb albert breer joining us right now albert welcome to the show hey fellas what's
00:10going on i gotta say you're having you're having a generational run here in june you get the miles
00:17garrett trade and the aj brown trades which you were right on the entire time on june one and now
00:24soarsby which you've been all over since this thing first came up two months ago i mean i
00:29this never happens in june albert and you're the face of it oh well thank you i appreciate that i
00:36don't know if i'm the face of anything but um i don't want to scare anybody with that but i
00:40i
00:40appreciate you guys saying it i am curious uh one of the points of contention when we start talking
00:46about soarsby making the jump to the nfl is will the nfl even let him into the supplemental draft
00:52have you heard anything about the nfl and how they're going to approach the soarsby situation
00:59yeah i i think the answer to whether or not they're going to let him into the supplemental
01:02draft is yes um and this is something that obviously soarsby's team has been vetting
01:07and i i think the i think probably the simplest way to explain this is the nfl like if you
01:15if you
01:15if you take this from the perspective of a court of law the nfl is basically a trade association
01:22and brendan soarsby is not a member uh is not a union member within that trade trade association
01:29right so if you follow me here he's not a part of the nfl pa yet so he's not subject
01:34to their rules yet
01:35and so like legally a trade association can't deny someone employment when they don't work within the
01:45trade association they have to leave that up to the companies and the companies in this case would
01:51be the teams so like i think like in this case because he does qualify for the the supplemental
01:58draft which the rules are if you're deemed ineligible that you're quality you qualify for the
02:05supplemental draft there have been different reasons for that right josh gordon was drugs
02:09um terrell prior was rules there have been a bunch of guys where it's been academics right like but
02:14they're he's ineligible um and so that makes him eligible for the supplemental draft um he'll be
02:21only ineligible as soon as he withdraws the lawsuit which is happening today so they have to let him in
02:26i think um then becomes a second piece of it which is is there going to be any sort of
02:32sanctions or
02:33repercussions for what he did at the nfl level and that's a little murkier um you know i think really
02:41a lot of that might come down to would brendan soarsby rather just enter the league without
02:48a fight if the nfl tries to impose something will it be everybody to their battle stations or
02:57will they somehow work out something ahead of time and i i think like what people forget about the prior
03:05case is even though he wound up appealing it that was sort of worked out ahead of time and prior
03:11had
03:11accepted a five-game suspension the mirror the five-game suspension he had from the ncaa so i do
03:18wonder if something's gonna be negotiated here and a key piece to this guy's i know i'm being long-winded
03:22but obviously it's a complex thing um it's going to be whether or not he can practice and meet and
03:28do
03:28all the other stuff while he's suspended essentially do they treat this like a drug suspension or do they
03:33treat this like a personal conduct suspension because under a personal conduct suspension
03:38the guy can't be in the building right under a drug suspension the guy can because he can come for
03:44treatment he can meet with his teammates he can go through all that different stuff so that i think
03:49would be like a determining factor for teams too because if you get to have him like say they work
03:56out like a six-game suspension but you get him get to have in the building and he can practice
04:00well then like you're getting to see him every day and he probably wasn't going to play anyway
04:05because he's showing up so late you know so you essentially get him um you just can't put him on
04:12the game field you know so i i think it's it's a really interesting case and it'll continue to be
04:17an
04:17interesting case but you know i i think he's going to be a relatively high pick maybe the highest pick
04:22since josh gordon uh was that 14 years ago now can you explain to us because i was trying to
04:27find
04:28something that was close and the case on booty stuff i feel like is as close as we're going to
04:31get he placed more than 8 900 wagers uh some of those were on games he played at at lsu
04:37and then
04:38you know obviously louisiana state they just kind of dropped the charges and then it just kind of felt
04:42like life moved on and nothing really came of that uh what are the are there any similarities in your
04:46eyes there or is it or point out some of the differences between the two i mean there are i
04:52mean i i think
04:53that's fair and i think it's it's similar to when like the case on booty fell on the sword i
04:58think
04:58the difference is like the nfl wasn't ahead of it the way that they are here and it is and
05:02and that
05:03one was more of a admission of guilt like after everything had happened and i don't know if a
05:09statute of limitations had passed or whatever but you know in this case obviously there are there are a
05:14lot of eyeballs on it you know and and look like i think this is the piece of it that
05:20people
05:20um that i i think people don't understand right like i i i totally respect that this
05:27is this this can be an illness right like gambling addiction is a real thing right i'm not saying it
05:32isn't but you know alcoholism is a is a real thing too and that doesn't mean that you can go
05:39drive
05:39around drunk you know so like i think that there's like a parallel and just that okay you know like
05:46how do we how do you treat this and is this something that you're going to handle with putting
05:50him into a program and checking up on him and monitoring him and there's some level of i i think
05:57um of of past experience the league has there with guys like jamison williams and calvin ridley
06:03um did he come into the league stop free i i tell you treat it i think it's going to
06:08be such an
06:09important thing so i think the booty thing does you know there is a precedent there but going forward
06:15now like the league has to create a deterrent um and i think they also have to let college kids
06:20know
06:21and this was the case with the prior thing too that they're not going to be a safe haven if
06:25you go in
06:26and you make a million bets on your phone um and it doesn't work out well hell i can just
06:31go to the
06:31nfl like the nfl is going to be motivated to create a deterrent to to kid doing that before he
06:38comes to the
06:38pros albert i know everyone's talked about soresby on the condition of well if he stays in college in
06:462026 and does what he thinks he can be a top five top 10 pick in in next april's draft
06:52have you have
06:53you heard what scouts think about soresby and where he might have gone if he had come out this
06:59last year and was eligible in this year's april's draft yeah so he he's a big loose athlete and he's
07:07a
07:09he's a kid who i i think you know i look i look like i i think you guys understand
07:16that i'm drawing
07:16these names around just to kind of describe the type of player he is the style of player he is
07:21not
07:21saying he's going to become these guys but i mean if i say patrick mahomes caleb williams zach wilson
07:27you guys know what i'm talking about right like it's sort of like that like brett farb genre of
07:32quarterback right so like that's that's what he is and i i think from a talent perspective a lot of
07:37people would tell you he's more talented than ty simpson uh who was the 13th pick in the draft
07:42last year and i think some people would say he's more physically gifted than fernando mendoza now
07:48mendoza was a much better player last year so uh there's a difference there as well if he had stayed
07:54in school i think we'd be looking i think you're looking at him the same way you're looking at
07:58um arch manning at texas the way you're looking at cj car at notre dame lenora sellers at south
08:03carolina i put dante more from oregon in like a little bit of a different category in that i
08:08think he's more proven more consistent more kind of like polished as a quarterback but those other
08:14guys you know i think he would fit into that category where you see the physical gifts there
08:20but there's still a need for you know a lot of refinement and if that refinement comes he would
08:25have had an opportunity to play his way i think into the top five or ten picks in the draft
08:29if you had to guess using all the the info and people you've talked to as your base what round
08:34do you think he'll actually end up going in the supplemental draft second um that'd be my guess
08:43um you know i here's the thing like i i look at it like i think a first rounder is
08:49probably too rich
08:50although like i think if you're like the stealers you have to investigate it because where are you
08:55going to be picking that high you know and like if you really think like you've got a good team
09:00around aaron rogers this year and then you're not going to have a quarterback um after that you
09:05already said he's retiring or you're not quite sure like on where you're at the position you need to
09:10at least investigate now they got a crowded quarterback room right and then i think you get
09:15into the teams like the jets the browns the dolphins the cardinals or those teams didn't take
09:22quarterbacks high this year those teams still kind of have a little murkiness about their future
09:28at the position and if you're one of those teams like i kind of look at it and say like
09:32why wouldn't
09:33you throw a second rounder at that just and this is presuming that you see him the way that i
09:37described
09:38him which not everybody does but if you see him that way i mean is it enticing like let's just
09:45say
09:45from the browns perspective is it enticing the idea that if you like you like flip the second
09:51rounder for him that like if you hit the next year you can turn around and draft jeremiah smith
09:58you know what i mean like yeah next year's draft is loaded and not just a quarterback in fact i
10:06think
10:06most people would tell you at this point the top prospects in the draft for next year in other
10:12positions it's it's jeremiah smith the receivers dylan stewart and colin simmons at edge rusher
10:18is leonard more at corner like there are some really high-end guys you know and so i think it's
10:25fascinating from that perspective as well if you're one of these teams where it's like the logic would
10:29be well we think he's got like a ceiling to be you know a top seven or eight quarterback in
10:37the nfl
10:37and if we hit that could free us up next year and if we don't we could still turn around
10:43and spend our
10:43first rounder on a quarterback anyway all right albert i saw you made a video about this but i i
10:50wasn't able to watch it yesterday because it was kind of a hectic day for us uh it was a
10:54heck of a
10:55tease though and uh i gotta ask you who is the nfl's version of the new york knicks i said
11:03the dolphins
11:05um and that doesn't mean they're gonna win a super bowl but what i my producer ken who does a
11:10great job of coming up with ideas for this stuff was like he was like well who would you think
11:17of
11:17and he gave me 16 and the browns were actually one of them and i was like i started to
11:22think about it
11:22and i was like all right like who checks the most boxes so the dolphins have kind of this iconic
11:28brand
11:29but this iconic brand that really hasn't like lived up to that for a long time right so that
11:35that exists they didn't change the uniforms they'd have the iconic uniforms too uh they were dominant
11:41in the early 70s right then they got a superstar in the 80s marino for the dolphins ewing for the
11:49nicks
11:49okay they became really good teams thereafter for an extended period of time then in the 90s to try to
11:57get a championship with that superstar they went and hired an iconic coach it was jimmy johnson for
12:04the dolphins and that was that that was uh that was pat riley for the nicks and then they went
12:10into
12:10this period of just what the hell are they doing for the 2000s and 2010s but they each had like
12:16a
12:16little blip in there and it was the wildcat like a weird blip right so it was the wildcat which
12:22was
12:22actually like a pivotal thing in the nfl uh for the dolphins and then limb sanity for the nicks
12:28and now you could even say do the dolphins have like an undervalued star coming with malik willis
12:36and this is stretching it like this would be to be projecting but like if you really nailed it the
12:42way that the jets and nicks did with jalen brunson that would be malik willis right uh who like is
12:48coming
12:48from another team that maybe didn't the word he had flashed but he didn't maybe show like that
12:54like he's got that sort of ceiling so anyway it's not perfect but i thought i don't know what do
12:59you
12:59guys think
13:02i mean it's tough i actually i thought the bills were a pretty good one a good choice all things
13:06considered uh because you'd have like uh you'd have a new head coach you'd have a guy that's uh
13:10uh people are wondering is he going to get to the mountaintop is he not going to get to the
13:14mountaintop
13:14there's there's a lot of uh previous in this case super bowl losses that kind of just seep in the
13:20back of your mind the same way for nicks fans you got 99 and 94 like to me that feels
13:24like the best
13:26okay i i just played the dolphins it like lines up historically so nicely well you got you got the
13:31iconic side of it right i think like the bills aren't iconic enough for me whereas the dolphins kind
13:36of is yeah and like i i honestly feel like with the dolphins like all the stuff we heard about
13:42with the nicks like that hasn't really been earned lately you know what i mean like it's just like
13:48that's new yorkers thinking they're you know what doesn't stink you know what i mean like so
13:53there's a little bit of that with the dolphins too where it's like it's like i mean you think
13:58from your childhood that was like one of the iconic teams but it really hasn't been
14:01it really hasn't been earned lately albert great stuff buddy really appreciate you uh solid stuff
14:08on the soresby stuff we'll catch up with you next week all right thanks guys appreciate it
