00:00Thank you to the sports god for the Brennan Soarsby news and you know we talked about this
00:05yesterday where I had said I still had I think I had said like a five percent chance that Brennan
00:11Soarsby wasn't going to be the Texas Tech quarterback and that I think the things that
00:15could change it were if Brennan Soarsby felt the ground moving beneath his feet when it came to
00:21Texas Tech and whether or not there was a bigger chance of him not having eligibility in 2026 than
00:27he maybe believed initially after the injunction and then the second thing would be if he has some
00:33sort of a first round guarantee or a second round guarantee from an NFL team I think the fact that
00:38Brennan Soarsby announced he's going to the NFL means both of those things did in fact happen I
00:43don't know about both of those things happening because the injunction still made it so Soarsby
00:46would be able to play it's whether or not Texas Tech was going to be able to actually rule down
00:51with their own punishments and then and then conversely whether or not he was trying to live
00:56in a world where Texas Tech was telling him hey uh so if you play this year and then we
01:01go through
01:01this whole entire process and the Big 12 gets to do whatever punishments they want they can strip us
01:06of every win we have they can strip us of not even playing in the Big 12 tournament and uh
01:10at that
01:11point I feel like Soarsby just laid down his sword the injunction allows him to play like that part
01:15doesn't change the whole argument and the fight over yesterday was the idea that that part doesn't
01:20change it's what the Big 12 is allowed to do I am surprised because I didn't see this coming I'm
01:25surprised that the Big 12 and what their version of laying the hammer down was going to be that was
01:31enough to intimidate him and or at least get him to say okay this isn't worth it I also think
01:34people
01:35are maybe uh maybe we're downplaying the allure of the NFL because I'm going to imagine that
01:41Brendan Soarsby's camp has not just been pursuing one road which is at all costs get Brendan Soarsby to
01:46play for Texas Tech I imagine his camp has also been poking around from the NFL to see if there
01:53would be a
01:53suspension and what that might look like to to talk with individual NFL teams and see who's truly
01:59interested in him like I I think the benefit that Brendan had is that the story broke around the the
02:06NFL draft right around that time and he had two months to gather a lot of information and survey the
02:12landscape and you know I I think I proved it with the Dante Moore stuff that Moore is always better
02:17when
02:17it comes to experiencing the NFL but if you got to a point where you weren't really sure if if
02:23the
02:242026 stuff in college was still too cloudy or murky or you thought there might be fallout after your
02:29leave whatever it was I think I think going to the NFL if some NFL team says hey we got
02:35a first round
02:36grade on you and that's where we're going to take you right I just I think it I think it's
02:39a very
02:39prudent decision and now it just becomes can you land the right spot and again what does Roger Goodell
02:45have to say about the fact well that second part's the most important right is and we'll find out
02:48obviously what Roger Goodell has to say on this but did he get an assurance from a team that I'm
02:53going to take you first second round I'm not just going to let you slide and then end up basically
02:57undrafted and I he's got to have the the knowledge and the understanding that he's going to be taken
03:02by a squad and the money whether that's first or second round and that matters because the money
03:06in a big way rather than third or fourth but I think I'm surprised that we got here I really
03:11am
03:11um yeah I think that's fair to say like I think I just wonder if the headache was just too
03:15much for
03:15him is that all that really ends up being I don't I really I'm saying this don't discount the idea
03:20that he just liked what he heard from the NFL and got sick of the BS in in in college
03:25football
03:26that's what I'm saying like the headache just got to be too big like it's like all right you're going
03:28to bring this into the equation now I I have to I have to go play for a team that
03:32I don't even know
03:32what the sanctions are going to be against us and meanwhile the whole big 12 is fighting every
03:37you ever it felt like college football is not aligned on anything it's one of the disastrous
03:41parts of college football they love fighting about all this stuff and they were aligned to basically
03:45try to make Shoresby's life hell now I do think it's interesting that uh was a carry the two about
03:51five years after the biggest and worst trade in Cleveland Browns history with Deshaun Watson I think
03:57it's very interesting the people that I know were very publicly on the record at saying you do this
04:03and you don't think twice because the juice is worth the squeeze about a guy at the time with
04:0820 plus sexual assault lawsuits and allegations against him who now they really have drawn the
04:14battle lines at gambling here and again I want to make it clear what Brennan Sorsby did cannot happen
04:20again it quite he will be arch slister he will be banned from football forever if he does one of
04:27the
04:27many things that he did at Indiana and at Cincinnati so yeah like from a just logical standpoint the risk
04:35is immense and I don't know for a fact that this kid has the the common sense or the wherewithal
04:42or
04:42the support around him to not repeat what he did in college that said I I think it's real rich
04:51that
04:51there are a lot of people being like hey it's the NFL I don't need my quarterback to be a
04:56saint when it
04:56comes to sexual assault or violence against women and then today we're pounding the table saying he
05:02bet on his own team that's though that's an unforgivable crime I'm sorry I'll take a gambler
05:08over the other thing any day yeah me too uh I and you know I got a soft spot for
05:12gamblers in my heart
05:13that's just how that's how I'm wired but maybe you could be the in here I feel well hey and
05:18they all
05:18said we're getting the exclusive with old Brennan Sorsby well I know we can at least talk parlays we can
05:22talk lines we can we can have conversations I'll tell you that that's like me and Munkin we can talk
05:26horse racing all day I'd get along with Munkin in a fantastic way I know that now I actually think
05:30maybe that's why Munkin came out on the record is not wanting him previously because he's like we're
05:35just going to talk about horse racing they're just going to dive right into the gambling part of that
05:38they're going to be best friends immediately this town's only big enough for one degenerate but I do
05:42think it's interesting like the the convo and really I think it's I think it's kind of misplaced in
05:47some ways I feel like the the convo some people are having is will he ever place a bet again
05:51and sure he's
05:52going to treatment he's going to try to see what he can do in that respect Nick that's not the
05:55bet to me
05:56the bet isn't whether or not Sorsby ever places a wager he can go to the NFL and then still
06:01by the
06:01way go to the casino as much as he wants uh he can go and gamble on all sorts of
06:06sporting events that
06:06aren't the NFL the bet you have to make is whether or not he's done gambling on games he's involved
06:11in
06:11that's the big crime here right that's the big that's the big bugaboo the NFL is looking out for
06:15well we already have evidence that he has stopped that he bet on himself or bet on his team when
06:20he was a
06:20backup quarterback in Indiana he did not bet on a single game that he was involved in in Cincinnati
06:25like so he's already got a year's worth of experience or at least understanding that okay
06:30if there's a line this is what I can't cross and to me that's at least an encouraging side I
06:35know
06:36nobody wants to hear it because they think all gambling is equal in this instance all gambling is
06:40not equal though yeah I would feel more comfortable if Sorsby had had a full what six months seven months
06:45to go ahead six seven uh time period to to basically prove hey I'm not going to do that again
06:51by being at
06:52Texas Tech this year I still think like to me it's a yes or no like I know we're at
06:58some point
06:58we're gonna get into well what round would you feel comfortable and I get it but like I like the
07:03idea
07:03that I'm I'm comfortable in the second round but the first round's too rich for my blood okay do you
07:09think this guy because I because I think if you're gonna take it down to what type of quarterback you
07:13actually think he is well yeah but I but like if if their team thinks hey this guy has top
07:1810
07:19in the NFL talent and we have the the resources to help him get there it just might take a
07:25while
07:26because he's a little bit more on the rar side because he didn't get that last year of college
07:30then I then I don't think I'd be outraged if they took him with their first round pick I wouldn't
07:35advise it but I do think like if you think he's a starting quarterback in the NFL then it just
07:41becomes
07:41a bit of semantics and I don't really care what you do with it sure definitely but I do think
07:45the
07:46value part of this is what's so appealing to a lot of these guys as well if I can get
07:49a first round
07:49talent but I get it in the third round and so next year because I have two first round picks
07:53I can
07:54double up and get two first round talents there like that's the appeal of all this yeah I think
08:00if he's if you look at him and go and and listen not only from the gambling side of things
08:06everyone
08:06is split on source b there are people that watch his game that see the physical tools and think
08:11that's young Josh Allen that's young Lamar that's you know because this is a guy that off schedule
08:16creates a lot of really impressive important plays and where he needs to get better is in the pocket
08:22but he's got a very nice arm he is like incredibly athletic you can build a modern NFL offense around
08:30him and then there are people who are going to be looking at maybe November of last year or maybe
08:35just the inconsistency Nebraska game oh yeah I wouldn't do that if I were you I would just hear clear
08:40that
08:40smut but I but I think that's what's interesting is you know he is going to be one of those
08:45incendiary
08:46kind of prospects on gambling alone well then you get to his actual game and I think the NFL is
08:51going
08:52to be split 32 different ways yeah Ryan Wilson says uh 10 out of 10 people if they took the
08:56name
08:56Manning off would take him over Manning in a second if they just watched the tape meanwhile coach Riz
09:01is saying he's got him as the fourth or fifth best if he came out in 27 like the divide
09:05on this is
09:05extreme just from a pure football standpoint the divide is extreme and then you add in the
09:10gambling and that's where I do think it tips the scales for some people it's like well
09:13if I if I can't make up my mind where he is in the first round then I might as
09:18well just go ahead
09:18and say no thanks anyway I think I've seen a lot of people react to Todd Munkin's words 15 days
09:24ago
09:24and it might be as simple as that's what Todd thinks and maybe this is a conversation and Todd says
09:30over my dead body and then maybe Mary Kaye's right that there's just no chance or that that it's
09:36unlikely that the Browns bid on Brennan Sorsby if he does make it to the NFL supplemental draft
09:41here's my word of caution 15 days ago every every sign pointed to Brennan Sorsby going to Texas Tech
09:49so the idea that Todd Munkin really had even kind of thought that there was a chance that Sorsby would
09:56even go into the supplemental draft when everything said hey they're trying to do they're doing everything
10:03they can to get this kid to stay in college for 2026 it's entirely possible that Todd Munkin just
10:09thought hey this is where I am today and I don't really have to worry about it this summer probably
10:13thought how I thought about it which is okay he's gonna he hired the the biggest best attorney he can
10:17possibly find he's gonna go to a Lubbock court they're gonna side in his favor he's gonna end up
10:22playing college football I I'm shocked we're at a spot where we got here with Sorsby I really am but
10:27now
10:27that we're here uh you know we gotta we gotta deal with uh whether or not the the Browns can
10:31actually land
10:32him or not I saw uh more than one Twitter account today as I was perusing the internet researching
10:38and thinking researching I I was wasting time just described scrolling through so I so I wasn't
10:43researching um but I I saw multiple accounts be like well if they draft him Todd Munkin's got to resign
10:49because resign you can't coach a guy after you've said this and I'm just like waited 59 years for this
10:55job and that's going to be the thing that breaks yeah well no because he won't he won't be able
10:58to lead
10:59Brennan Sorsby because Brennan Sorsby will have heard this and it's like guys it's the NFL these
11:04guys are so much more pragmatic and practical than you realize and if if Brennan Sorsby's here I'm gonna
11:11say it's because Todd Munkin sees something in him it goes back to the Ty Simpson thing the Rams don't
11:17draft Ty Simpson without Sean McVay saying I think this kid can be something if if the Browns put in
11:23a bid
11:24on Brennan Sorsby whether they win or not that tells you Todd Munkin signed off to some degree
11:28somebody that they clearly have been trying to uh at least evaluate for a long time there's a reason
11:33why we have his tight end on our roster and there's also a reason why Andrew Barry's openly talked about
11:37it the amount of research they put in to seeing if Sorsby's a good quarterback or not because they
11:41thought they were doing work on the 27 draft they thought they were being smart about it and Sorsby was
11:45going to be one of the main players of the 27 draft now you have a chance potentially to get
11:49in the 26 supplemental draft while also having two first round picks the next year it's about the
11:54value play attached to this all and I don't know why I did that like Goodwill hunting retainer I
11:59wasn't gonna say it but I did it's about it's about the value play for Andrew Barry it always is
12:04and if the value exists here if you can get him in the third or fourth round while also then
12:08keeping
12:09your first round picks for next year that's a lot of value that Andrew Barry can't resist if we take
12:13the the gambling side and put it over here for just a second and I know that's going to be
12:18tough for
12:18some people to do if we get to what I think that the success that Todd Munkins had in the
12:24style of
12:24quarterbacks he's had success with and what Brendan Sorsby does that is so alluring to NFL teams I see
12:32a nice little overlap there Brendan Sorsby is an elite mover like this guy can make up ground or sorry
12:40make up yards on the ground pretty easily I think you're going to be able to build not a huge
12:45run game
12:46this isn't Cam Newton but I think you can build a nice run game with him included he is a
12:51dual threat
12:52quarterback and I also think like if a to me it always comes down to if a guy has the
13:00raw feel to be
13:01able to make plays out of chaos make it out of structure and and you think he's proficient enough
13:07in the pocket that you can you can basically build off that into being a better pocket quarterback
13:13you've got a guy that's got an incredible chance of being a franchise quarterback and this kid
13:19has that making making plays out of structure and if you look at Todd Munkin Lamar Jackson is a guy
13:28that creates out of out of structure a lot I think if you look at what Todd Munkin would be
13:33trying to
13:34do with Deshaun Watson because this is what Houston did with Deshaun Watson when they had success
13:38talked about wanting by the way out of structure yeah this is something Munkin's been pretty vocal
13:42about wanting is a quarterback that can move a quarterback out of structure a quarterback that
13:45can do some stuff with his leg now I think average like 48 yards on the ground per game running
13:49like
13:50I mean it's it's not maybe that's 25 or 30 yards in the NFL I don't want people to carry
13:54it away
13:54thinking he's Lamar he's not Lamar uh but he's he is he's proficient in doing both and I just think
13:59like um again I I believe in the prospect I understand there's bad football there you can go to
14:05any prospect almost any prospect that didn't play at Clemson five years ago or that didn't play at
14:12name Ohio State and you can find bad football it's just as simple as that I think this is in
14:18the vein
14:18of Lamar at Louisville I think this is in the vein of uh Josh Allen coming out of uh Wyoming
14:24like he is
14:25an incredibly raw quarterback and I think there's always risk the more raw a quarterback is there's
14:31more risk but it's not this is not the same thing to me as Ty Simpson who played you know
14:36what 17
14:37games in in college football this guy had four years in college football he started two and a
14:42half of the last season that's enough football to say hey we can make our judgments if this guy is
14:47is again if he's got enough he's not raw enough or if he's if he's got enough to go ahead
14:53and work
14:54off of and use that talent and slingshot into being something real yeah I mean the bet you got to
14:58have here is uh do we want to see do we want to see what he can do if you
15:02because what you're doing
15:02is I agree with Albert's point and he'll tell us at 520 you're basically redshirting him this year
15:07so if you're going to redshirt him this year or let's say he gets like six or seven games in
15:11the
15:11back end of it are you comfortable with taking him if you were to put him up against the 27
15:15class
15:16yeah I think you have to have an honest conversation about what that is because here's the thing
15:20um on one hand you are going to unless the kid can't be in the building like if he gets
15:26suspended for
15:26all of 2026 and he just can't be in the building and can't do the work this becomes a real
15:31conversation
15:32because the the even if you redshirt him not because the NFL said so but even if you redshirt
15:38him for this year by the end of the year you're going to have an understanding of where some of
15:42his aptitude is and you're going to be able to have seen him in certain scenarios that you're in
15:47practice that you're going to have a touchstone of where he is you might not be able to tell if
15:51he's
15:51going to be a for sure thing you might not be able to tell if he's going to be a
15:54for sure not a thing
15:55but you'll have some gauging on that going into 2027 that's why will they suspend him and if they
16:03do how much of a suspension will he get is such a critical question oh it's massive and I I'm
16:08trying
16:08to think about uh like different parallels or different you know circumstances and I mean this
16:13is it's not one of a kind I kept thinking about Kayshaun Booty and I kept thinking about his situation
16:18I mean he legitimately gambled on his own team allegedly uh while playing for LSU he gambled on six
16:24different LSU games but he made coincidentally he's been booty since coming into the NFL I like
16:29him I think he's pretty good that was that was well hanging fruit of a joke that man played that
16:33man played in the Super Bowl last year here that man that man played in the Super Bowl last year
16:37jokes uh no we're different we're a different show than that we don't do those anymore oh no
16:41that's a different thing we don't oh shoot uh so anyway so booty stuff uh you know he gambled
16:46550,000 at one point uh he had made how many different bets do I have here 17 NCAA football
16:53wagers games involving LSU all sorts of investigators involved anyway so he gambled on his own team is
16:59the point and the end result by the NFL was oh the state of Louisiana just dropped all these charges
17:04because they got him on online conspiracy charges and everything using a fake alias and that type of
17:09stuff oh they dropped it I guess we don't have to punish you in any sort of way it's different
17:13obviously for Sorsby because he's a quarterback but like if you're going to use the booty precedent
17:18attached to gambling on your own college in games you played in well nothing happened to him it
17:24should be noted I always use the booty precedent that's people say Nick Wilson the booty precedent
17:29it couldn't have been like Kayshawn Smith that had this happen you know what I mean it couldn't
17:33it couldn't have been Kayshawn Johnson I was gonna say Sorsby the Sorsby's another one that's
17:38a little tough just couldn't it had to be booty um it always has to be booty he's about booty
17:43people say booty is undefeated I would tend to agree with him but um I mean I'll just go back
17:48to this I don't expect the NFL to suspend him for a full season I would be really surprised I
17:54think
17:55if there's a suspension I would expect it more in a short term maybe for a quarter of the season
18:00and again I I wouldn't be surprised if this is something that was negotiated over the last little
18:07bit and into the next week or so where the I would be really surprised if Sorsby's camp had him
18:12just
18:12going through this process blind and even then we're gonna do another off season of Sue L Robinson
18:17discussions oh please no is that what this is gonna turn into we do love Sue L Robinson but uh
18:22no more can I be honest though what's that ratings were massive during that stretch with Deshaun
18:28ratings if we're in the ratings business which we are ratings were massive during that stretch
18:33I'm okay remember Jason having like that like bringing on uh all the different attorneys involved
18:39in like successive days and everything and spending the six o'clock hour it's like uh all right here's
18:44Deshaun's attorney now here's and it was just like this this roller coaster we all basically turned into
18:49our own versions of attorneys and judges which is not something we should be doing because we're just
18:53sports tacos yeah I never want to talk no offense to the attorneys out there I don't want to talk
18:57about sports precedents with attorneys Tony Busby that weirdo just going off he's disappeared I don't
19:04know what's happened to that young man he had a heater from the Deshaun thing there were a couple
19:08other national cases he was involved in haven't heard from him since uh but again if if if this is
19:14a
19:15red shirt year of the Browns choosing I'm really okay with that because I think you can tell enough
19:20information by the end of that season to inform your decision making in 2027 if the NFL even for half
19:25a
19:25season suspends Brennan Sorsby I think that's when the conversation really gets just really muddy to
19:32a point that I I don't know I have an answer on today I mean if Deshaun got 11 games
19:35I don't think
19:36that's crazy to think that uh somewhere in the like that I don't know 8 to 10 range isn't wild
19:40and
19:40then maybe you do an appeals process maybe it turns out to be like 6 to 8 somewhere in that
19:44stretch
19:44you want the I think you want the Sue L Robinson treatment that's I'm here and I just think we're
19:49gonna get it I think whoever signs up for Sorsby is gonna get the Sue L Robinson treatment
19:52I think the the the hard part for me in this is that I don't think Browns fans I think
19:57Browns fans
19:57that have a 9 to 5 and are going about their day I think they think to themselves oh you
20:01mean we
20:02could have this quarterback and we don't have to go through Deshaun or Shador but he just jumps and
20:07bypasses the line and he gets to start right away week one that's not going to be the case guys
20:11guys
20:11you
