00:00Are the Browns now too physical?
00:01Did you see Jared Verge yesterday?
00:03Ripped the Guardian cap.
00:05What is it with Browns defensive ends and going after helmets of people?
00:08Took the Guardian cap off of Quinshawn Junkins at the end of practice yesterday.
00:12Now, I thought about this.
00:14I don't want to give him too much of an out,
00:16but isn't that the safest thing you could possibly do?
00:20With the Guardian cap?
00:21The Guardian cap.
00:22Kind of just comes off, right?
00:25Like it's...
00:25It really doesn't come off.
00:26You really got to give it a good yank.
00:28Yeah, but it's not like...
00:28That Velcro's good.
00:29It's not like dragging, ripping the helmet off.
00:32No.
00:33And then...
00:34So if you're going to do something...
00:35Hitting the guy with it and getting in a great big melee on national television
00:39and upsetting your quarterback and you getting upset at your quarterback
00:43and then that quarterback going out and hurting himself and then...
00:45Oh, yeah.
00:46And then, well, we all know what happened after all that.
00:49So as an homage to Miles Garrett,
00:51someone who he's being compared to on every single snap right now,
00:55you could do worse.
00:56It's an homage to Miles Garrett.
00:58Now, would it have been funny had he had taken it as a bit
01:01and tried to hit somebody over the helmet with it?
01:04No, it would not have been funny.
01:06Would not have been funny.
01:07You wouldn't have laughed.
01:08Is the Browns practice too physical, though?
01:10No.
01:10But you...
01:11Well, you saw...
01:13Wait a minute.
01:13Todd Munkin, the Munkin' man, called practice early.
01:15Yeah.
01:16Well, it should be noted that they haven't really done that.
01:20Meaning, when I talked to Zach Jackson about this yesterday,
01:25normally by this time of camp, you have cut some practices down
01:30or changed the schedule or canceled something just because at this stage,
01:36like, these guys have been overworked.
01:38And so they haven't done that yet.
01:39So it was kind of due for them to kind of cut something short.
01:43So, no.
01:44I don't think it's...
01:45Well, you say that, but see, I disagree.
01:47Judkins got smacked on another play.
01:49Yeah.
01:49I saw it.
01:50And then earlier in this year, earlier in this camp, you know,
01:52Quinshot Judkins had a shot that was considered...
01:55Like, you would do that in a game and it would be fine,
01:58but you would not do that in a practice.
01:59And it got Mike Hall.
02:01And Mike Hall might have already been hurt when he got hit on that play.
02:05Yeah, that one was...
02:05But it didn't make it any better.
02:07Yeah.
02:07And then you had Shador got hit yesterday late.
02:11And so I think Munkin had seen enough.
02:13And I just think these guys are antsy to see another team,
02:15see another group that they can go after.
02:18And they're going to get the joint practice.
02:20Which I think they are going to come out.
02:23And this is going to be...
02:24I think Munkin is going to say, all right,
02:26it's time to do it to another team.
02:27The reason I say this, though, the reason I even bring it up
02:30is that I think you are seeing the needle
02:35that is trying to be thread by Todd Munkin with his team.
02:38With the talent that he has.
02:41Because I told you guys,
02:42I don't know how you saw the first preseason game.
02:44And it wasn't by how they played.
02:46It was by personnel that you could see that first preseason game
02:51and think that they're going to be a playoff team.
02:53And that's...
02:54That's understand...
02:55Now, that's not an excuse to Andrew Barry.
02:56You can go ahead and write on and rip Andrew Barry all you want.
02:59Go right on ahead.
03:00It's his job.
03:01That's part of it.
03:02That's not an excuse.
03:03But I can buy the logic of it
03:05where I'm just looking at personnel going,
03:08man, if we lose one guy in that secondary,
03:11out of that starting secondary,
03:12we are in serious trouble.
03:14But we probably already are in serious trouble
03:16with the quarterback situation.
03:17We probably already are in some trouble here
03:19because I know that some people have said,
03:22ah, they're not worried about the offensive line gelling.
03:24I hope they're right.
03:24I really do because I'm worried about that offensive line.
03:27Like, there are so many things that have to happen.
03:30And when Todd Munkin is so...
03:31And I'm going to use a word here that is not going to be taken well.
03:34Sensitive.
03:36But he has to be.
03:37If he's going to be very sensitive towards the injury,
03:39which I probably would be too,
03:40I think they're showing you exactly what it is.
03:42Because I haven't seen a whole lot of guys on the bikes,
03:45guys in the bucket hats, guys walking around.
03:47Like, there's guys like Carson Swessinger.
03:49You know he'd legitimately be out there.
03:51Denzel Ward, his body of work shows you
03:54that does he need to be participating in all the practices?
03:57No.
03:57But there's guys who do.
03:58You're trying to get your work in.
04:00But at the same time, you're trying to keep everybody healthy
04:02because you need these guys.
04:03And you need them week one.
04:04And I think he's trying to do this balancing act
04:07where every single time,
04:08he's trying to make sure they're ready for week one.
04:11And then I have to wonder,
04:12are you, and no coach wants to do this,
04:14are you coaching the injury?
04:15Are you coaching to that?
04:18And I brought that up yesterday with Deshaun Watson.
04:23Because you remember,
04:25Jonathan had brought up the arm numbness
04:27after he hit the arm on Saturday.
04:30And it's like, well, how long are you going to do this?
04:32And he'll play this coming Saturday for a quarter.
04:36And I wonder, will he play on Thursday afterwards?
04:39I know Todd said that Taylor Green is going to play some
04:43that Thursday against New England.
04:45Might you see a series?
04:48You very well could.
04:50Because now you're in a tough spot where,
04:51like I think Deshaun Watson, the starter,
04:54and you think he is.
04:54And by the way, I think one Cleveland fan favorite
04:56might have let the cat out of the bag yesterday about that.
04:59More on that at 643.
05:00I'll let you guys decide whether or not
05:02that a certain somebody who fans really, really, really like
05:05let the cat out of the bag on the starter yesterday.
05:08But, and this is even a John theory.
05:10I might even bring him on for it.
05:11But I think that you're trying to get the weird balance of 660 plus days
05:17without playing a game, playing in the game, getting the rust off,
05:21getting the work in, but also not getting a guy hurt.
05:26Because how much are you losing if you get any of the quarterbacks hurt?
05:29I'm not sure, but it ain't going to help.
05:31Yeah.
05:32You need all the talent that you have.
05:33But the thing about, you know, Deshaun Watson,
05:36what separates him from other QBs that have signed big contracts
05:39or whatever, is that the investment has already been paid.
05:42Yes.
05:43And I think that's important.
05:44I saw a lot over the last few days about this,
05:48that people are coming to grips with him winning the starting job
05:51that either predicted he wouldn't win the starting job
05:55or that were just staunchly in the Shador Sanders camp.
06:00Yeah.
06:00They have to come up with reasons this is happening outside of he's out
06:04playing him.
06:05So the reason I heard a lot over the last few days was that, well,
06:10the note, the memorandum came from Jimmy's office or Andrew Barry like Todd.
06:15And I said to you yesterday, did you like what I said to you yesterday about that?
06:19It's like, well, you're going to sell PSLs coming up within the next couple of
06:23months.
06:23Do you really want to upset your fan base that's trying to sell PSLs too?
06:27Believe me.
06:27They know you don't like them.
06:28Just as much as Denzel Ward knows when there's a video of him making a
06:32defensive play and whether or not it's a touchdown or not.
06:35So I went, he was having fun with Spencer German,
06:38who I don't even think shot that video and put it up,
06:41but they know those guys know that ownership and the organization know what
06:46you think of Deshaun Watson.
06:47The money on Watson is already spent.
06:49They are not telling Todd Munkin to play him to recoup some value.
06:56That's not happening, guys.
06:57Guys, the trade, you know, and I brought up about the Shador part of it too,
07:02but it's also the trade of Miles Garrett means all that for Denzel Ward.
07:07Deshaun Watson as well.
07:09It means that for him as well.
07:10If they thought there was anything left in the tank to shake out,
07:14to get any of the gas going again,
07:15they wouldn't have traded away the premier defensive player in all the league.
07:18They wouldn't have done it.
07:19Like they are, I'm telling you, they have mentally checked in.
07:23They're trying to, the organization and the coaches, I should say,
07:27they're trying to win games.
07:28The players are trying to win games.
07:29They have moved on to 2027 in so many ways.
07:32Like your quarterback of the future, he's playing in college.
07:36They know it.
07:36I don't know how many times I need to hit you over the head with it.
07:39And Jimmy Haslam believes that.
07:40And I think Andrew Barry certainly believes that.
07:42And I think probably in the deep recesses and sub-cockles of his heart,
07:47maybe even Todd Munkin believes that.
07:48But he's the one who's tasked out there to win
07:51because he's got to talk to the media twice a day during training camp
07:54and after every game and all that other stuff.
07:56He's the one who's got to do it.
07:57Yeah.
07:57So I know that we're all,
07:59we're trying to figure out how in the world Deshaun Watson's beating out
08:03Shador Sanders when he's not the future.
08:06I think you should, part of you, as mad as you might be about this,
08:10is you should feel good that nobody's meddling with Todd Munkin.
08:13And I don't think anybody is.
08:14I think Todd Munkin came in.
08:16Maybe he did to sell himself on the job.
08:19Maybe he's like, I can work with these quarterbacks.
08:21And notably, I can extract the last little bit out of Deshaun Watson,
08:25who once was really good.
08:27And it's been years since that.
08:29I have my doubts whether he's going to be able to pull it off.
08:31I totally doubt it too, but he has every right to try it.
08:33How good are we going to be feeling about Todd Munkin that hire
08:36and what he can do with everybody on this offense?
08:38That's why you hired the guy, is it not?
08:40Did you not hire him so he can get the very best out of him?
08:42Even players we don't like,
08:44you're supposed to try to get the very best out of them.
