01:22this is what he does well but no one likes to push the envelope like sasha kunin so let's see

01:32here with a win yeah absolutely and the one thing i was thinking about before the gate drop you know

01:36many times has sasha probably started in first gear over and over in europe so maybe that first start
01:42was just him really getting used to that second one was definitely better now he's out front
01:47you see in that box there you got the two kawasaki's in green that's half anchor and kitchen trying to
01:52make their way forward trying to figure out where they are looking at timing and scoring it is 27th and

02:00at least for the moment yeah they're way way way way way way in the back of the pack but

02:06could see all the chaos in the small box not only they got to deal with the ruts they got
02:09the riders
02:10getting cross-rutted so got to be careful to make your way up and if you're levi just stick with

02:15number 10 in front of him as he's making a bunch of passes so sasha kunin 14th in moto one
02:23and quickly
02:24getting away in moto two what an impression a first impression that the kuning twins are leaving
02:31on pro motocross today romano de francisco gordon shimota is fifth this could be an opportunity for
02:39shimota to get that much needed first overall win of the season because it's gonna have to deal with
02:46romano who's the overall leader right now and kitchen and have anchor our way back yeah i need to make
02:50so levi's actually ahead of step so he's made the pass um on him in a few other positions but
02:57i mean you got to think sasha's out front just smiling his brother smiling out here long ways to go
03:03but i would say so far they're um the dissertation to america's been successful no no doubt about it
03:11even if he doesn't finish off for the moto when they have shown how well they can ride and what
03:15talents
03:15that they are will yeah i just want to let you guys know i'm actually with uh sasha's brother lucas
03:22right now he's just watching the monitor that we watch the racing on he's like i'm loving this i'm
03:26loving the fact that i can watch him out there i'm i don't think any surprise right now seeing what
03:30his brother is doing but he's watching uh very close he hasn't gone anyway he's been about 10 feet
03:35for the podium yes very interested spectator there expect to see them back at southwick and iron man
03:43get to a sand track southwick they could do some serious damage there you know but at the same time
03:51i know this is hard packed but this track kind of reminds me of a sand track meaning you've got
03:55to
03:55carry your momentum up and with the uh the bike being down on power probably allowing lucas
04:00i knew that being on this hard pack to kind of rod it i mean sasha that is to ride
04:05it like he would
04:05saying keeping that momentum up i mean look at this gap he almost got five seconds within a lap and

04:10half and he's got his head down just moving forward and at one point don't realize man i got these
04:16guys
04:16pretty far pretty far in front see romano in the distance back there gonna go back to the start
04:22gotta show you what happened to hamaker who i thought might have the whole shot and then just like last
04:28week ends up getting tangled in turn one the kitchen was down with him there's romano in second
04:35and already the gap like you said nearly five seconds good start for
04:38ryder d francesco and the rockstar has corner there's kitchen he is into the top 20 now 18 and
04:47now we'll show you he replayed the start as he tries to get around his teammate drew adams back here
04:53yeah drew probably didn't recognize that it was levi behind him but here we go we've got
04:58levi highlighted now it looked like kind of got clipped somebody gets clipped they started leaning
05:03towards the other way so i believe the uh it was a kawasaki rider that got hooked on
05:09seth i don't know was that levi and pulled seth down i think it was levi that pulled him down
05:14but the question is what happened to levi something must have hit him yeah when the when the corner is
05:20going right he's gotta start going left it never ends well that kitchen is making miss me of this
05:27field he's already passed about half of the riders 17th now for kitchen in six minutes
05:35yeah that's good seems like with the track it's gotten to a point to where the runs are going to
05:40be
05:40so wherever it's flat it's pretty much going to stay that way so i think it's open up the passing
05:45opportunities for these guys they look like they made some uh smoothments on the racetrack so they're
05:50able to hit some of the outsides but nonetheless levi's doing good jt yeah it is and we i love
05:55what
05:55you did there with the kitchen mints me thing but it is a little i think reassuring for kitchen when
06:00he sees handmaker down with him in the first corner now that doesn't help his points or his scoring
06:05position in this moto but at least he knows that his championship rival up to
06:09to this point is in the same dire situation that he is so it's not going to be as much
06:13panic he's
06:14going to work forward get every single point he can but there's just that that tinge of like oh okay
06:18well it's not as bad as it could be i think it moves in a hurry gage linville here on
06:23the 5 11 try
06:24out the 74 catch back up to the lead group you got davies who has now moved from sixth to
06:29fourth
06:30shimota shimota has the overall win right in front of him but he's actually drifted back a bit and it's
06:37going
06:37to help romano's cause this would be an unbelievable story if nick romano the villain rider for pro
06:44circuit could get the win there he is on the 141 but he's under fire from deep versus go yeah
06:50i'm
06:51assuming joe must have went down because he was up there or maybe my mistake but yeah the the one
06:57you
06:57got to watch for is the guy in fourth right now cole davies i do believe like he showed a
07:01lot of pace
07:02he was uh second fastest actually was your fastest on the racetrack but almost uh second over uh
07:08louder d in front of him so he has the pace and he just came through the pack so joe
07:13better catch a
07:14toe okay joe is back going behind davies shimota's going to need a couple of passes he's got to get
07:21to romano and beat him in this moto because he only beat romano by one spot in the first moto
07:27so
07:27romano would have tiebreaker in position if he finishes ahead of shimota so at least right now
07:33the overall win today is a battle between the green 141 of romano and the red 30 of shimota and
07:40there's a
07:41pass by de francisco yeah nick got caught on that outside and can't go the long ways around and make
07:47that mistake rider d was able to slide up the inside great pass and good to see him up here
07:52promising
07:53supercross season a couple crashes this outdoor season but make no mistake this kid has a lot of
07:58speed he just needs to be up front and he can show it you think romano has any idea he's
08:03leaving this
08:04thing overall yeah probably you think so knows his teammates down oh there goes easy pass easy work
08:10there for the 37 davies yeah i don't know if he's pumped up oh no davies goes down i know
08:17that's going to
08:18be tough to shower later on a little road rash up there but that just shows you the traction or
08:24the
08:24lack thereof on this racetrack he was pushing it both tires starts pushing um and he goes down
08:30oh bummer for cole so we think shimota might have gone down at one point now same thing for davies
08:37it is all sorts of mixed up and davies now back to seven of the young australian kate meneer who
08:45got in
08:45in front of him then there's been here in the 99 deacon denno another rookie had a good start last
08:54week on the 5 11 triumph looking good on the 199 then it's davies marson bumper to his quick last

09:04yeah looking at the points uh nick and joe tied on points uh roderdees and the third the tcf
09:11class is making it difficult on my math problems right now i can't deal with it it's like the
09:15single digits levi kitchen is going to be in a position here a little bit for an overall victory
09:21still how many people struggle with them five out of four baby we're going to get for the update here
09:27on the fly racing riders in this field as davies goes to work on denno just a moment we'll give

09:35that update a bit of a struggle today for a high miss again who was the race winner here last
09:40year he's at 13th
09:41there's the pass yeah good recovery back cold probably take some of a few corners to settle back
09:47up hopefully got a nice mechanic probably told him hey we're still in this thing we need to fight
09:52levos at the back he knows he understands that still got 20 minutes left plus two laps in this race
09:57kitchen's the 14th let's hear about that rookie deacon denno jt yeah and jason it's not so much just
10:03about denno it's really about the youth in this top 10 look you've got sasha kunin making his first
10:08ever pro motocross race winning here you've got landon gordon in what his maybe fourth or fifth ever
10:13pro motocross race came in here with a similar number in sixth deacon denno his third ever pro
10:17motocross race so the youth is really showing up and carson wood was 10th now 11th in his first
10:23ever pro motocross race so the youngsters really showing up in moto too yeah wood is just 16 years old
10:29the
10:29plan for now is to wood for wood to race a couple of these but not so many that he
10:34loses his amateur
10:35eligibility and then go to the monster energy championship at loretta lens for amateurs but if
10:40he does really well the team might just keep wood on full time running 11 right now yeah how good
10:47these
10:47amateurs are these days it's probably not much easier racing amateur we've seen these kids come out
10:53and uh especially the next program and compete next weekend how about this sasha kunin wheeling away
11:03and looking for the moto win that we not his first race in america because he was part of the
11:08belgium team
11:09for the motocross of nations was fast that day made some mistakes fast in the first moto made some
11:15mistakes but so far he's got it right now yeah but i would say this is his first race only
11:21because the
11:22of the destinations you end up racing against 450s and stuff so like i said with his brother there's
11:2810 reasons why this shouldn't be possible but these kids got a lot of heart a lot of determination it

11:34wow making that roger de costa fly racing gear look good coonins first you look at the fly racing
11:41riders heinous we mentioned before 13th boland 17 turner ross timbo and schwartz on the bar axe
11:48toyota redlands yamahas out there as well so yeah the gear here that fly racing can
11:52come up with is designed to look like the man roger de costa the superstar of the sport in the
11:571970s
11:58a belgium native as well and he manages king tim's racing operations so it's great to be able to work
12:04with these riders roger is 82 years old they are 19. so i cannot say they grew up as roger
12:10fans
12:11necessarily i mean luckily you're still in it luckily they still watched you growing up so you're
12:1619 19. yeah i don't respect it i'm glad you threw out roger's age because that saves me i feel
12:22way
12:22young but i mean you're watching a little grown man night here and whatnot putting it down kids are
12:29teams coming over here doing work it looks like shimota has the gap to romano down to one second that
12:36would be the battle for the overall win today you see the event points on the left side and here

12:41that battle they're currently tied romano would have it second moto is a tiebreaker but for how long
12:49yeah when you ask him that question does nick know um you're about to find out yeah depends on how
12:55he fights joe and joe gets around and doesn't he run a wheel back in on them for an overall

13:01a lot of things and i'm sure dick to be able to get his first one joe's had one before
13:05an opportunity for
13:07him unbelievable from pro circuit if romano holds on they have the first three wins of the year with
13:15three different riders really showing how strong these motorcycles are this year here's kitchen more
13:22work he has caught primus yeah i was looking at it he's been stuck at 14 for a little bit
13:28now but
13:29he had to make up a little bit of time on chance and he's got to keep pushing for
13:37and with the work kitchen is done he would actually take over the championship lead by one point at the
13:43moment he throws the field over hamacre sent a little further back he is in 19 and derrick kelly here
13:5277 on the mx6 sons of our fathers kawasaki here's kitchen yeah levi's doing really good it just
14:01shows you how impressive this rod is if he can continue because it's really hard for anyone to
14:05come up to this field look at seth i mean he's kind of been stuck in that same position how
14:09difficult
14:10this racetrack is so old davies the same thing really impressed that first motor with the passes
14:16uh-oh it's joe's time right there james looking for the move of romano it's for the overall the bottom
14:23box yeah now if i'm joe i want hrc to let me know that and this is for an overall

14:30hey don't leave that corner open maybe some racist dick wouldn't come back in but like i said you do
14:35a lot of things for an overall victory in this class oh yeah kitchen meanwhile in that battle with
14:41james had feet off the pegs the ruts lost a ton of ground to james so still stuck in 14.
14:47kunin leads
14:48the moto de francisco second but this battle romano and shimota that all comes down to this jt it does
14:55and for shimota you know i was thinking it's been a long time since we've seen wasabi joe show up
15:01you know the nickname that the honda hrc guys use for joe when he's in the zone when he's feeling
15:06it and
15:07he goes to that other place that's wasabi chung we have not seen that i i don't know maybe all
15:13of
15:132026 so if there was ever a time to break it back out it would be right here right now
15:18to grab that
15:18overall win it's some water it's wasabi time you know like joe's here um and like i said earlier
15:25at the first photo he rode good but looking at levi kitchen our fourth leader seth it is just very
15:31very hard to make passes in this field and as you get up the passes get even more difficult so
15:36joe's
15:37riding really good ducking his head from the ruse we get an overall victory that's uh wasn't probably
15:43a lot on a lot of people bingo card for sure this is the battle for the win halfway mark
15:48of the moto
15:49reminder to stock up on monster energy shimota versus romano will
15:57as i've been talking to ben griffith is joe shimota's mechanic shane drew the crew chief over
16:02there for the two he's just asking kind of where joe's at you know because the results have been
16:07relatively consistent but not consistently on the podium up front and they both said this is about
16:12the starts there's been a big focus this week on those starts it was a bit so so once again
16:18there in
16:18moto to imagine the world where joe has got these starts because he has been the most consistent rider
16:24really and they said also we have to remember back to back injuries for joe he had that very
16:29serious um upper back there neck injury and then of course you know he had the he had the leg
16:34his
16:34broken leg there so they said that's a lot of time away from the bike that's a lot of uh
16:38no gate
16:39drops a lot of confidence knocking so the message really coming from them was once we get a start just
16:45watch this space because they're very happy with the way joe to be moving through the pack as you've noted
16:49james and uh we're seeing it happen again it might result in over but we still haven't seen him go
16:54out in front and get that win on the moto and just kind of help think the minutes coming yeah
16:59and just
16:59going uh expanding on that a little bit more when you talk about the injuries i felt like with joe
17:04coming
17:04back because he has some gnarly injuries you know just having that confidence in yourself i actually
17:09believe because he hasn't been getting bad stars it's probably why once he does get it he's able to
17:14ride because to me the way he looked at first race if you put him out front he might have
17:19not
17:19rode like this but because he had bad start and he had to just let loose and race and pass
17:24these guys
17:25probably let his instincts come back found his racing form to where now he's back but he's got a
17:30bigger problem his motorcycle smoking now smoking joe he's smoking joe right now look on the
17:36right side of that bike on the bottom part oh wow
17:44this is it if mike holds on it's the battle for the overall romano hanging tough he has improved
17:50so much on the late race endurance compared to the first weekend of the year at fox raceway but
17:56has he improved enough to hold off joe who is maybe the toughest rider in this field late in the
18:01race oh that's like smoking a lot more now yeah it's smoking and hopefully maybe it's just because
18:06it's overheating i can hear joe revving that motorcycle up but we're at altitude as joe tries to go around
18:12outside the bikes running hotter up here because they're starving for oxygen so easy to happen
18:17saw it happened yesterday and even earlier today so joe's gonna have to keep this thing and try
18:23to manage it but i doubt he knows at this moment jt oh just remember guys remember hayden deegan last
18:29year past jt yeah he gets makes the move there but hayden deegan basically had to milk his bike all
18:36the way to the finish line with a similar issue over revving the motorcycle using the clutch too much
18:40so nothing that dramatic yet for joe but he could be there if he doesn't take it easy yeah and
18:45i'm
18:45looking at it it's coming out the drain plug down there so that's actually a good thing because that
18:49is overheating it looks like overflow yeah the overflow which said that bike is hot so you might have an
18:57opportunity it's gonna be hard because he's battling but maybe try to cool that thing down
19:03a lot of interesting to see if they put on the pit board to stay off the clutch because when
19:08the smoke's
19:08coming out there as a rider do you even know it do you even see it no the only time
19:12you know it is
19:12like if there's a big puff or you start feeling like the antifreeze or water getting on you start
19:17sliding around okay and not gripping it that's when you'll look down but uh smoking joe don't know he's
19:22smoking right now back with kitchen so shimoda at the moment with that pastor romano has taken the
19:28overall lead kitchen is digging for a podium today yeah hopefully that's wood yep yeah these guys in
19:38front of him get levi back in here because i believe he's got an opportunity to make a few passes
19:45it's only about you know six seconds behind cole davies running in ninth place cole must have went
19:52down again well what's wild is first of kitchen can make this pass on wood and put him on the
19:58overall
19:58podium not bad for the first turn crash but the series points right now kitchen would have a two-point
20:04lead on hamacre and a four-point lead on shimoda and bomer who's been solid all year would be down
20:10only
20:1112. so every point is big for any one of these riders and if shimoda's bike can't hold on that
20:17would be an absolute disaster will i just spoke to crew chief and mechanic for joe shimoda and
20:25neither of them have heard over their radios that joe's bike is smoking so they have not made him
20:29aware because essentially right now the team is unaware that there's potentially any bike problems
20:35that could be good that could be bad yeah and the reason that is because some places it's not
20:41smoking which goes to me it's more about it overheating it seems like when the slower parts
20:46it starts smoking like right here you can see it but when he gets going it it opens up and
20:51they
20:51cannot see that so as long as joe's smoking he's all right that bike could continue to run is when
20:57it
20:57stops um that might be the issue hopefully it cools down
21:04so shimoda in control of the overall but here's the podium attempt for kitchen
21:08in the bottom box we can make the move on young carson wood
21:14carson both of his grandparents are here this weekend to watch his pro debut they're very happy
21:19he has been flying out the test track so that's why they're giving him a shot as a pro
21:23he is right behind mumford in the riding very well as a plate on the aeo ktm that's the three
21:28rider
21:29battle in the bottom what a line by levi the same line he was using that first moto that was
21:34even more
21:34impressive how rough it is and now you can start to see the aggressiveness coming from levi he sees
21:39these guys in front of him so if he can get these two that's going to change things and who
21:44knows how far
21:44he can go up
21:49wood really applying the pressure to bumper
21:55yeah this is going to help levi out he's two battling
21:59try to catch them while they're battling each other sneak a little sneak attack as carson looks
22:03like he makes the pass so the 16 year old wood showing some toughness oh but a rough ride through
22:11that corner monkey trying to get him back not able to do it
22:15i love this stupid class because there's battles all the way down i mean we're down what 11 12
22:24uh yeah 10 11 12 these dudes are battling as levi makes that pass
22:30and is that enough for the overall podium for kitchen well this is going to help he just made it
22:36two for one logo time levi so he's around wood where is hammaker 16 and it is enough
22:45now kitchen will go to second overall though yeah he got cold davies in front of him and
22:52and it's kind of strange yes i agree yeah the way he's rotting you're starting to wonder does
22:58does he have bike issues as well we heard of that first moto last weekend
23:05yeah i'm not sure what the issue was last week when i talked to davies yesterday he just said i'm
23:08not sure what i'm supposed to say we had a problem he got 11th in that moto
23:14yeah there he is not let the truth get into a good story but kitchen has definitely real
23:20let him in now james you can see davies right there yeah and if i'm levi i know this is
23:24gonna be
23:24one of the guys and i'm about to fight for this championship so that's even more motivation to try
23:28to get him and yeah if he can get this pass he's already in second overall at this moment
23:35is it conceivable that he could make up four more points four more passes and actually somehow get
23:43the overall win despite the crash yeah it's gonna be tough he's got about 10 seconds a game but i
23:50did
23:50say he's gonna be at the end of the photo possibly a fight for his overall victory now as for
23:55hammaker here
23:56there he is if it ends like this he'll lose the red plate to kitchen but he is digging as

24:02he just got around dudney for 15th
24:08kitchen in hot pursuit of davies yeah really i mean those two were down together in that first corner
24:15so i'm sure seth you know he did a good job at fighting back probably gonna be a little bomb
24:19once he
24:20looks up and see how far levi was able to climb up because he just did it last weekend so
24:24and lose
24:25that point sleeve but the number 47 has been riding great all day long very impressive to continue
24:31marching his way up kitchen is 10. we've got davies that'd be one point denno meneer homer you would
24:38need to get there i believe and i'm literally counting on my fingers you can verify i'm doing it right
24:42in front of
24:43you to get to the overall win that would be unbelievable one pass at a time and he's going
24:48for it around the outside got it yeah no he feel like he had it almost like he hit like
24:55a pothole and
24:56he kind of knocked his hand off the throttle and kind of stalled out there but nonetheless
25:01yeah levi's uh no no matter how he finished i think this is a win today the way he rode
25:07that first
25:08moto to be able to come up and then ultimately like take over to points lead if he's able to
25:12finish this thing out with a second place after going down the first corner levi's solid
25:19and he has officially taken the measure of davies again second overall he needs three more positions
25:26to be able to knock shimoda off of the top overall spot and what can you say about the moto
25:33oh
25:33is that a mistake there for the 47th yeah he probably wanted to get to that inside so it looked
25:37like he stalled it out yeah small mistake but no harm no file he's got to get a little distance
25:43oh but
25:45by the way did he just fly over from somewhere and he just showed up wouldn't look it yeah he
25:50was just
25:51like riding in california a couple days ago unbelievable yeah maybe first time at altitude riding a bike
25:55on the team that he is not familiar it's different than what he's racing and i feel like i just
26:01saw him
26:01win last weekend somewhere else in a whole different country and he comes over here and does it here so
26:06far
26:06look good yes sweeping the motos last weekend in latvia and now looking for a moto win here now this
26:14is
26:15sasha tuner he's not going to make the overall podium because the bad first moto but what a performance
26:19here jt it sure is and just thinking about their future plans they're going to go back and they're
26:25going to go to italy to race next weekend the following weekend they go all the way down to south
26:30africa
26:31for a grand prix down there and then they'll be back for southwick so what a travel schedule in front
26:37of
26:37them and just going from south africa to south wick alone that is enough to ask in and of itself
26:42but
26:42i think there's a bright future ahead it's pretty obvious from these results yeah i think i'm going to
26:47agree with that these kids can ride no doubt about it the 19 year 19 year old twins from belgium
26:54and the other thing about sasha you only saw it in this moto he is an unbelievable starter and that'll
27:00obviously serve him well now a lot of the belgian riders in the dutch you know the neighboring country
27:05are known for the sand riding but the coonins a couple of years ago moved to france because they
27:10wanted to get more riding in on hard path because they know they need to be more versatile than just
27:15being sand masters so they're good on sand but they do a lot of work on this type of terrain
27:20and you
27:20see it pay off today yeah i mean school alert if you can ride sand you can ride anything uh
27:25to be
27:25honest because they all kind of similar where this hard pack you got to keep the momentum up where
27:28there's mud same thing and so i think sand is a challenge not only to to learn how to ship
27:34the
27:34motorcycle keep momentum but also physically um it's really hard to so very impressed but we did talk
27:41on the call this weekend and what sasha's doing it's not surprising he did say it wouldn't be
27:46surprised if he came out one in moto and had some troubles in the other one but to me listen
27:51to
27:51jett lawrence talk about how difficult the racetrack is knowing how difficult after racing on it i'm
27:57impressed for them to adapt because i know this track has not been the same each time they've been
28:01on the racetrack come to altitude you know there's a lot of pressure on him but talking to him yesterday
28:07knowing everything that's going on i'm more impressed about them being able to handle all the adversity
28:12and then come out and look like he did a week ago out front in his own series that's what
28:18makes this
28:18kid special not what he's doing right now we know he's fast but it's doing all that the way he's
28:23doing
28:23it very impressive kitchen still trying to dig back there in nine oh wait a minute this is going to
28:34help
28:34shimoda he is starting to close on deep francisco could get a little insurance because right now he's only
28:39two points ahead of kitchen overall but he's closing on deep francisco deep francisco by the way would
28:46be looking at his first career podium overall in pro motocross
28:54at least at the moment but if he gets passed by shimoda he'll be bumped back
28:59at least he asked for wasabi time i believe he's here joe's heating up joe's been heating up by his
29:06bike he's been heating up for a few laps you haven't seen it in a bit so maybe it's like
29:11no more worries
29:12cooling down a little bit all right he's heating up bike's cooling down he's caught rider d he's been
29:18very good so far this year making steps on the rockstar husky wow is this track brutal at this point
29:25he just sorted out those holes down there yeah and this kind of goes back to my point what i
29:30was
29:30saying with joe earlier because he's had that start he's learned how to race again you know and all
29:35that fear kind of goes away because there's so much chaos around you i think that helps joe in this

34:51takes a moto win in thunder valley and this should be enough for joe shimota to take the win overall
