Slab Collapse at PM Awas Housing in Bhavnagar Injures Three Youths, Residents Allege Negligence

Three youths suffered serious injuries after a portion of a concrete slab suddenly collapsed in the parking area of the Ruva Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Bhavnagar’s Subhashnagar area late Saturday night.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV and has triggered outrage among residents, who allege that repeated complaints about the poor condition of the housing complex have been ignored by authorities.

According to reports, the accident took place around 1:15 am in the B-Wing parking area of Plot No. 28 of the housing scheme, which was handed over to beneficiaries only around four-and-a-half years ago.

At the time of the incident, three youths were reportedly sitting on a motorcycle in the parking lot when a large portion of the slab suddenly collapsed directly onto them. All three sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Residents claimed that cracks, gaps, and structural issues have been appearing frequently in the housing complex, especially during the monsoon season, raising serious safety concerns.

Local resident Falguniben Dabhi said residents have repeatedly approached authorities regarding the condition of the buildings but no permanent solution has been provided.

“We are middle-class families who somehow managed to get these houses. Incidents like this keep happening, especially during monsoon. We have children at home and are living in fear,” she said.

Another resident, Vimal Dabhi, alleged that several complaints and applications had already been submitted to the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), but no proper inspection or repair work had been carried out.

The viral CCTV footage shows the slab collapsing suddenly while the youths were seated below, creating panic among nearby residents.

The incident has once again raised questions about the construction quality and maintenance of government housing projects.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the cause of the collapse. Further investigation is underway.
