Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh arrested four women within 24 hours for allegedly stealing sarees from a shop in Iglas town. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.

According to police, the theft took place at Vanshika Saree Emporium located in Shiva Market, owned by Jitendra, a resident of Lalpur Colony in Iglas.

The shop owner alleged that a group of women stole sarees from the store on Monday. After reviewing CCTV footage installed near the shop, he approached police and lodged a complaint.

Following the complaint, a police team was formed under directions issued by Aligarh SSP Neeraj Jadon, who has instructed officials to take strict action against rising theft incidents in the district.

On Tuesday morning, police arrested four accused women near Double Canal New Colony in the Kotwali area. The accused were identified as Ramadevi, Munni Devi, Savitri Devi, and Urmila Devi, all residents of Pathua village in Hathras district.

Police said 12 stolen sarees were recovered from their possession.

Iglas Inspector Dinesh Kumar Sisodiya confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections and the accused women have been produced before the court.

Further investigation is underway.
