00:17Having the deeper knowledge of God's word and been strengthened in your spiritual life.
00:23Let's pray.
00:25Our Father in heaven, we thank and we praise you.
00:30For this wonderful and blessed morning that you blessed us with.
00:34As we come before your presence today.
00:38We pray and we ask you that you will speak to our hearts and strengthen us.
00:43Lord open our hearts and our eyes and our ears.
00:47That we might write your word, hear your voice and look into your word.
00:53Father help us not only to be the listeners of your word.
00:57But help us to be the doers of your word.
01:01We ask you that you will strengthen and speak to our hearts by your word.
01:06We allow you to speak to our hearts.
01:09In Jesus name we ask and we pray.
01:11Amen.
01:14Turn with me this morning to the gospel of John chapter 4, verses 11 and verse 12.
01:25Two thousand years ago back when Jesus was on this earth.
01:29He came on a purpose to fulfill the mission that his father had placed upon him.
01:38So Jesus moved to many cities and many places.
01:42Fulfilling his father's responsibility and mission.
01:47And Jesus was so tired in his ministry.
01:51And Jesus was sitting at a well called Jacob.
01:56That's called Jacob's well.
01:59Today we are going to talk about what are the lessons that we are learning from Jacob's well.
02:08Remember, God has given such a great privilege to Jacob through all the Bible.
02:15Jacob was a deceiver, but God chose him, and God made Jacob's life to be the blessing to many people.
02:26And so in John chapter 4, Jacob had digged a well for his family and for his cattle for all
02:36his household.
02:37And now Jesus was sitting at Jacob's well.
02:43We'll be learning today what does the Jacob well teach us to our spiritual lives.
02:50Let's turn with me to the gospel of John chapter 4.
02:54And we are going to read verse 4.
02:57And he must needs go through Samaria.
03:102,000 years ago back when Jesus was on the earth, talking to his people, talking to the people whom
03:17he met.
03:17He said this way,
03:20For the Son of Man has not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as
03:25a ransom to many.
03:27And Jesus hath not come to the world to call righteous, but he came to the world to call sinners
03:34to repentance.
03:36So that's how the reason Jesus has been called as the friend of sinners.
03:41The ministry of Jesus is not for the righteous, but for the outcasts and rejected ones.
03:49In Luke chapter 19, Jesus said,
03:51For the Son of Man has come to seek what was lost.
03:54Zacchaeus was lost, and Jesus entering into the city of Zerukov,
03:58that he might save Zacchaeus from his sinful life.
04:03Jesus is also sitting at Jacob's well.
04:06He knew that a woman is going to encounter him.
04:09He's going to make a conversation with him, and her life is going to be transformed.
04:16That is what the mission of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
04:21You know, she is a Samaritan, and he is a Jew.
04:25Jews will never have an encounter, or will never have a conversation,
04:28will never have any kind of thing with the Samaritan.
04:33Because Jews always had different kind of opinion over Samaritans.
04:38Jews always think that they are outcasted people, they are rejected people.
04:43There are people who are having illegal contact and came through in the world.
04:48So different kinds of opinions that Jews had about Samaritans.
04:52But though that Jesus Christ was a Jew,
04:56but he still have a ministry of love for her,
04:59to save her right at that time.
05:02There we find the ministry of Jesus Christ.
05:07God is a God of love.
05:10Jesus knew that she is a sinner.
05:12Jesus knew that she is a prostitute.
05:13Jesus knew that she had no family.
05:15Jesus knew that she had five husbands.
05:17Jesus knew that she was still living in sin.
05:20But Jesus wants her life to be saved and to live a holy.
05:29So Jesus was sitting at Jacob's well.
05:32That Jacob's well teaches us the ministry of the love of Jesus Christ
05:36to the outcasted and rejected and abandoned ones and the sinful ones.
05:42The Jacob's well teaches us the second lesson.
05:45Let's turn with me to the Gospel of John chapter 4.
05:49And we're going to read up verse 12.
05:52Art thou greater than our father Jacob,
05:54which gave us the well and drank thereof himself and his children and his cattle.
06:01Number two, Jacob's well teaches about the greatness of Jesus Christ.
06:05In the conversation between Samaritan women and Jesus Christ the Jew,
06:12and Samaritan women said,
06:14Are you greater than our father Jacob?
06:19Because she had this question,
06:21the reason that Jesus told her,
06:24When I give the water to you,
06:26and when you drink the water that which I give it to you,
06:29there is no work for you to travel this far.
06:36And she said,
06:37Are you greater than our father Jacob?
06:41Because our father Jacob had did this well for his family,
06:46for his cattle,
06:47for his household,
06:48and even that was a blessing to us today.
06:52But are you greater than our father Jacob?
06:56You know Jesus is greater than everything.
06:59He's greater than the possessions.
07:01He's greater than the position.
07:03He's greater than the angels,
07:05prophets,
07:07kings,
07:08richness,
07:08higher authority.
07:11He's greater than every throne.
07:13He's greater above all.
07:17He's greater than every person in the Bible.
07:22Jesus is greater.
07:25Till today,
07:26Jews did not accept Jesus Christ as Messiah because of the greatness of Jesus.
07:31Because Jesus told them many a times,
07:33I and my father are one.
07:36And Jesus also said,
07:38He that hath seen me has seen my father.
07:40And Jesus also said that I was before Abraham.
07:44When Jews heard the message of Jesus Christ,
07:47they thought he is making a blasphemy against the God.
07:51He's making a blasphemy against the leader Moses.
07:53He's making a blasphemy and making equal with their patriarchs.
07:59That's the reason they don't accept Jesus as the Messiah and the Savior.
08:04So today,
08:06Jesus is greater than Jacob.
08:08You know,
08:09Jacob was a deceiver,
08:10but Jesus is the one,
08:11and God is the one who had transformed Jacob's life from deceiver
08:16to a man of great blessing.
08:18Jacob is the one who is running after away from his home
08:21and living on a long life,
08:23but God is the one who promised that I will be with you,
08:26Jacob.
08:27God is greater than Jacob.
08:30He is greater.
08:32This Jacob's will,
08:33Jesus sitting right at that place,
08:36He is telling that I am greater than the Jacob
08:40who had given you the will and the water
08:43to draw out and to drink.
08:46Number three.
08:48Turn with me to the gospel of John chapter 4 and verse 13 and 14.
08:59But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst,
09:04but the water that I shall give him shall be in him as a well of water springing up into
09:09everlasting life.
09:12Jacob's will teach us that the importance of living water.
09:17It means Jesus is the water of life.
09:21You know,
09:21the water is very necessary for a human being to survive on earth.
09:27Because man can live three days up to without water,
09:31but man can also live without food for eight days.
09:35But water is very important for a man to survive.
09:39If there is no water,
09:40we will be quenched up and we will be dried up
09:43and we will have to lose our strength and our health too.
09:48But right over here in the book of Exodus and also book of Numbers,
09:52the people of Israel were in the journey of the wilderness.
09:57They were so tired because they could not find water.
10:02They were so tired.
10:04They were so tired.
10:05They waited for water
10:08that they might take away their thirst.
10:12And you know,
10:13God is the one who had created the wells
10:15and springs of water
10:17when they have cried.
10:18When Hagar cried,
10:20God had given a fountain of spring.
10:22When Samson cried and prayed to the Lord
10:24while he was so thirsty,
10:25God had created,
10:27God has brought up a springs of water over in that place.
10:31So right over here in this passage,
10:34Jesus said,
10:35if I give you the water
10:37and when I give you the water,
10:38when you drink the water which I give to you,
10:40you'll never have to come back here again.
10:44Then Samaritan women said,
10:45Lord,
10:46give me that water
10:47so that I could not travel thus far.
10:52Jesus is speaking about the living waters
10:55and Jesus is the one who gives us the living waters.
10:58When we drink the water
11:00that which Christ giveth to us,
11:02we will never have to travel
11:03and we will never have to be thirsty in our life.
11:09Of course,
11:10Jacob had digged the well
11:12and that well
11:13and the water in that well
11:14has been a blessing to Samaritan women.
11:16But Jesus being as the greater than Jacob
11:19and his life
11:20is so great a blessing
11:22because he's offering a living water
11:25which is a salvation to her in her life.
11:29So Jacob's well is very important.
11:33Jacob's well teaches us
11:35about the ministry of the love of Christ.
11:37Jacob's well teaches us
11:39the greatness of Jesus Christ.
11:41Jacob's well teaches us
11:43that Jesus is the living water.
11:45He offers the salvation
11:47to those who cometh to him.
11:49It's a great invitation.
11:51In John chapter 7 verse 37,
11:52Jesus said,
11:53If any man was thirst,
11:55come up here
11:55and let him drink the water
11:57that which I give to you.
11:58Are you thirsty today?
11:59Come to Jesus
12:00and he will take away your thirst.
12:04Let's pray.
12:05Heavenly Father,
12:06we thank you for your word
