00:00Praise the Lord.
00:01It's such a great joy and privilege for all of us
00:05to have this blessed and beautiful morning,
00:08to have the presence of the Lord,
00:11and to praise God from all the bottom of our hearts
00:14for the time and the day that the Lord has given to each one of us.
00:18Let's pray.
00:20Our Father in heaven,
00:22our gracious and merciful Heavenly Father,
00:25we thank and we praise you for the blessed opportunity
00:28that you have given to us to come before your presence.
00:32We are away far from you, God.
00:34We are lost and we are enemies.
00:36We have been sinked down in the deep miry clay,
00:40but your love has lifted us up
00:42and had made to have fellowship with you today.
00:45Precious Lord, this morning as we prepare our hearts for your word,
00:49we pray and we ask you that you will speak to our hearts
00:52and give your word for us
00:53that we might grow in faith and in relationship with you
00:57and by your word.
00:58In Jesus' name we ask and we pray.
01:01Amen.
01:03This morning if you have your Bible with me,
01:06turn with me to the Gospel of Mark chapter 11
01:12and verses 12 to verse 14.
01:22We call this week as a holy week.
01:30Last day that Jesus Christ has entered into the city of Jerusalem
01:34by announcing himself that he is the King and the Messiah
01:39and he has been praised and glorified by all the people in the city of Jerusalem.
01:46Now coming back to the Mark chapter 11 verse 12
01:50that Jesus were been passing over by the place called Bethany.
01:56The word Bethany means a house of figs.
02:01And when Jesus was passing through the place called Bethany,
02:06the Bible says that he was hungry.
02:09Hungry is one of the characteristics of a person.
02:13Remember we are all human beings.
02:16We make or we feel hungry.
02:20When Israel were walking in the wilderness,
02:22they were hungry and they were thirsty.
02:25Jesus was also hungry and he was thirsty.
02:30And he wept, he walked and he slept.
02:33These are all the human characteristics.
02:36Jesus had all this characteristic in his life.
02:39Which proves that Jesus Christ is not only 100% divine,
02:43but Jesus Christ is also a 100% human being.
02:49So this morning, dear brothers and sisters,
02:52when Jesus passed through the place called Bethany,
02:55he was hungry and he came to a tree.
02:59He saw a tree, that is the fig tree.
03:01And he thought that he was expected a fruit from that fig tree.
03:06But there was no fruit on it except the leaves on that tree.
03:11This morning, we are going to study on
03:13why Jesus have cursed the fig tree
03:15and the importance of fig tree that was given in the Bible.
03:19There were 60 references.
03:21The 60 scripture portions speaks about the emphasis,
03:25importance of the fig tree.
03:28In the book of Genesis chapter 3 and verse 7,
03:32when Adam and Eve,
03:33when they know that they were naked,
03:36and the Bible says they took the fig leaves
03:39and they covered themselves from the nakedness.
03:42And also, in the Middle Eastern part,
03:46the fig tree and the fruit of the fig tree
03:49was very so sweet and taste,
03:51as according to Judges chapter 9 and verse 11.
03:55The first ripened fruits of the fig tree
03:58were especially valued in the Bible.
04:03Today, we'll be going to study on
04:05the importance of fig tree
04:07and why Jesus had cursed the fig tree.
04:10The very first thing is,
04:12turn with me to the book of Judges chapter 4
04:18and also the book of 1 Kings chapter 4
04:21and verse 25.
04:38The Bible clearly says
04:41The people of Israel and Judea,
04:43they took the rest.
04:45They were under peace,
04:47under the tree of a fig tree.
04:51The fig tree in the Bible is a sign of peace.
04:56It is not only a sign of peace,
04:59the fig tree is also a sign of judgment.
05:03In Isaiah chapter 34 and 4,
05:06the Bible says,
05:07the prophets used the fig tree
05:10as in to pronounce judgment upon the people.
05:15And the good figs were pictured
05:18as obedient believers
05:20and while the rotten figs
05:23were used to picture the wicked believers.
05:27And Jesus also saw the Nathaniel
05:30when he was sitting under a fig tree.
05:34Now, when Jesus came to the fig tree,
05:38he saw there was a leaves on the fig tree,
05:40but he did not see a fruit
05:43from the fig tree
05:44because he was expected
05:46there might be a food
05:47because he was hungry.
05:49Now, what does the fig tree relate?
05:52In the Bible,
05:53the fig tree relates
05:54to the people of Israel.
05:57In Mark chapter 11,
05:59Jesus Christ has predicted,
06:02has announced himself,
06:04proclaimed himself
06:05as a king and messiah
06:07just the day before he entered
06:09into the city of Jerusalem,
06:11announcing to the people
06:12of the nation of Israel.
06:16But now,
06:17in the same passage,
06:18Jesus was cursing the fig tree.
06:21Remember,
06:23the people of Israel,
06:26they were so spiritual.
06:29Israel was just like
06:31a fruitless fig tree.
06:33They had all the signs
06:35of spiritual life,
06:36but they had no fruit.
06:38They were keeping
06:39the letter of the law,
06:40but they were carrying out
06:42the temple ceremonies.
06:43They were observing
06:44the ancient feasts
06:45and the sacrifices.
06:47They were very religious
06:48in every detail,
06:49but they do not have
06:51any spiritual fruit.
06:52but Jesus is calling
06:55the nation of Israel,
06:56the people of Israel,
06:58as the fruitless fig tree.
07:01Maybe this morning also,
07:04that the Lord is always looking
07:06for the spiritual fruits
07:07that we can bear
07:08from our spiritual life.
07:10God is not a man
07:12to look to the outward nature,
07:14but he looks into
07:15the inward heart of a man.
07:16Man might look to the outward nature,
07:18but the Lord will search
07:19into the deeper hearts
07:21of a man.
07:23God is expecting
07:24from each one of us
07:26to have a spiritual fruits.
07:29But what kind of fruits
07:30are the spiritual fruits?
07:32Turn to the epistle of Galatians
07:35chapter 5 and verse 22.
07:37But the fruit of the spirit
07:39is love, joy, peace,
07:41long-suffering, gentleness,
07:42goodness, faith, meekness,
07:44temperance, against such
07:46there is no law.
07:48So this morning,
07:50dear brothers and dear sisters,
07:52God is expecting
07:52such kind of fruits.
07:55We have been born again.
07:57We have been experiencing
07:58the salvation of Christ.
08:00And we know Christ
08:01each and personally
08:02in all our lives.
08:03But are we bearing
08:04the spiritual fruits?
08:06If we are not bearing
08:07the spiritual fruits,
08:08Jesus calls each one of us
08:10as curts and fruitless fig tree.
08:14God wants all our life
08:16to be abundant
08:16and to bear fruits
08:18and much more fruits
08:19and bring glory and honor
08:21to the Lord Jesus Christ.
08:24If you have your Bibles,
08:25turn with me to the Gospel
08:26of John chapter 15
08:27and verse 5 and 6.
08:31I am the vine,
08:32he are the branches.
08:33He that abided in me
08:34and I in him,
08:35the same bringeth fruit,
08:36much fruit.
08:37For without me,
08:39he can do nothing.
08:40If a man abided not in me,
08:42he is cast forth as a branch
08:45and is withered.
08:47And men gather them
08:48and cast them into the fire
08:49and they will be burned.
08:53If you are abiding with Christ,
08:55you will bear more fruits.
08:56If you are not abiding with Christ,
08:58you will be cut off from Christ
08:59and you will be thrown
09:01and you will be burnt
09:02under the fire.
09:06So Jesus is asking us
09:07each one of a question.
09:10Do you bear spiritual fruits
09:12in all our lives?
09:15Spiritual fruits
09:16are the evidence
09:18of the true repentance
09:20and the true salvation.
09:23When women in Samaria,
09:25she left her part,
09:27she received the salvation,
09:29she knew Jesus Christ
09:30as personally
09:31and Lord and Savior.
09:32She went back into the city
09:33and called all the city
09:34unto the Lord
09:35because she experienced
09:37the salvation.
09:37She experienced the joy
09:39and happiness
09:40and brokenness
09:42and God
09:43had given her
09:45a new life
09:45and a new heart.
09:46She experienced
09:47all the things.
09:49She brought all the people
09:50unto the Lord Jesus Christ.
09:53That's the
09:53spiritual fruits
09:56or the evidence
09:58of a people
09:59who have been saved.
10:01How about us
10:02this morning?
10:04Are we
10:05bearing
10:06the spiritual fruits
10:08in each
10:08of all our lives?
10:11Jesus cursed
10:12the fig tree
10:15just as the same way
10:16He might even curse us
10:18when we are not
10:21bearing
10:22the spiritual fruits
10:23from all
10:24our lives.
10:28Let's pray.
10:29Heavenly Father
10:30we thank you
10:30for your word
10:32that you have
10:33given to us
10:33today.
10:35Thank you
10:36for speaking
10:36to our hearts
10:38that we are all
10:39being baptized
10:40and we are all
10:40knowing you Christ
10:41as personally.
10:44Dear Lord
10:44help us
10:45that we all
10:46might be
10:48walked by
10:48your spirit
10:50led by your hand
10:52and live
10:53according to your word.
10:55we praise
10:56and we thank you
10:56for each
10:57of your gifts
10:58in each
10:59of all our lives.
11:01Bless us today
11:02lead us
11:04and guide us
11:04strengthen us
11:06Lord help us
11:07to bear
11:08spiritual fruits
11:09for your glory
11:12not the things
11:13of the world
11:14but to look
11:15forward
11:17for the gifts
11:17that you have
11:18prepared and placed
11:19for each one
11:19of our lives.
11:22we thank
11:22and we praise
11:23you for this
11:23blessed time
11:24and the day.
11:27Kindly
11:27bless our country
11:28and all the
11:30affected countries
11:30with coronavirus.
11:32Lord bless them
11:33give them a
11:34perfect of strength
11:35and a perfect
11:36of heal.
