00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word and to ask those things which
01:56are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore, I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:09and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most
02:17merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:33We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things
02:38which we ought not to have done, and so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:01Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous
03:10and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they
03:25may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ
03:31our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 126
05:00When the Lord restored the well-being of Zion, we thought we were dreaming.
05:05At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy.
05:09At that time the nation said, The Lord has accomplished great things for these people.
05:15The Lord did indeed accomplish great things for us.
05:19We were happy.
05:21O Lord, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished.
05:28Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest.
05:35The one who weeps as he walks along, carrying his bag of seed, will certainly come in with
05:41a shout of joy, carrying his sheaves of grain.
05:46Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
05:52is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
05:57Amen.
06:02Psalm 127
06:06If the Lord does not build a house, then those who build it work in vain.
06:12If the Lord does not guard a city, then the watchman stands guard in vain.
06:19It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food.
06:26Yes, he provides for those whom he loves, even when they sleep.
06:32Yes, sons are a gift from the Lord.
06:36The fruit of the rune is a reward.
06:40Sons born during one's youth are like arrows in a warrior's hand.
06:46How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.
06:49He will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate.
06:55Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
07:02is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
07:06Amen.
07:11Psalm 128
07:14How blessed is every one of the Lord's loyal followers, each one who keeps his commands.
07:21You will eat what you worked so hard to grow.
07:24You will be blessed and secure.
07:28Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the inner rooms of your house,
07:32your children like olive branches as they sit around your table.
07:39Yes, indeed, the man who fears the Lord will be blessed in this way.
07:44May the Lord bless you from Zion, that you might see Jerusalem prosper all the days of your life,
07:51and that you might see your grandchildren.
07:55May Israel experience peace.
07:59Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
08:04as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:11Amen.
08:16Psalm 129
08:19Since my youth, they have often attacked me, let Israel say.
08:24Since my youth, they have often attacked me, but they have not defeated me.
08:29The plowers ploughed my back, they made their furrows long.
08:34The Lord is just, he cut the ropes of the wicked.
08:38May all who hate Zion be humiliated and turned back.
08:43May they be like the grass on the rooftops, which withers before one can even pull it up,
08:50which cannot fill the reaper's hand or the lap of the one who gathers the grain.
08:57Those who pass by will not say,
08:59May you experience the Lord's blessing.
09:04We pronounce a blessing on you, in the name of the Lord.
09:10Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
09:14as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
09:19world without end.
09:21Amen.
09:25Psalm 130
09:28From the deep water I cry out to you, O Lord.
09:32O Lord, listen to me, pay attention to my plea for mercy.
09:41If you, O Lord, were to keep track of sins, O Lord, who could stand before you?
09:48But you are willing to forgive, so that you might be honoured.
09:53I rely on the Lord, I rely on him with my whole being.
09:57I wait for his assuring word.
10:01I yearn for the Lord more than watchmen do for the morning.
10:05Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
10:10O Israel, hope in the Lord, for the Lord exhibits loyal love,
10:14and is more than willing to deliver.
10:17He will deliver Israel from all their sins.
10:22Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
10:27as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
10:31world without end.
10:34Amen.
10:39Psalm 131
10:42O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor do I have a haughty look.
10:48I do not have great aspirations, or concern myself with things that are beyond me.
10:55Indeed, I have calmed and quieted myself like a weaned child with its mother.
11:01I am content like a young child.
11:05Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
11:09as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
11:14world without end.
11:16Amen.
11:25The Second Book of Kings, Chapter 4
11:30A wife of one of the prophets appealed to Elisha for help, saying,
11:36Your servant, my husband, is dead.
11:39You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the Lord.
11:44Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.
11:50Elisha said to her,
11:52What can I do for you?
11:54Tell me what you have in the house.
11:57She answered,
11:58Your servant has nothing in the house,
12:01just a small jar of olive oil.
12:04He said,
12:05Go and ask all your neighbours for empty containers.
12:08Get as many as you can,
12:10and go and close the door behind you and your sons.
12:14Pour the olive oil into all the containers.
12:17Set aside each one when you have filled it.
12:24So she left him and closed the door behind her and her sons.
12:28As they were bringing the containers to her,
12:31she was pouring the olive oil.
12:34When the containers were filled,
12:35she said to one of her sons,
12:37Bring me another container.
12:39But he answered,
12:41There are no more.
12:44Then the olive oil stopped flowing.
12:47She went and told the prophet.
12:50He said,
12:51Go,
12:51sell the olive oil,
12:53repay your creditor,
12:54and then you and your sons can live off the rest of the prophet.
13:01One day,
13:02Elisha travelled to Shunem,
13:04where a prominent woman lived,
13:07and she insisted that he stop for a meal.
13:10So whenever he was passing through,
13:13he would stop in there for a meal.
13:15She said to her husband,
13:18Look,
13:19I'm sure that the man who comes by regularly
13:21is a very special prophet.
13:27Why didn't we make a small private upper room
13:29and furnish it with a bed, table, chair, and lamp?
13:33When he visits,
13:35he can stay there.
13:39One day,
13:40Elisha came for a visit,
13:41and he went into the upper room
13:43and rested there.
13:45He told his servant,
13:47Gehazi,
13:47Ask the Shunemite woman to come up here.
13:51He did so when she came to him.
13:54And Elisha said to Gehazi,
13:56Tell her,
13:57Look,
13:57you have treated us with such great respect.
14:00What can I do for you?
14:02Can I put in a good word for you
14:04with the king or the commander of the army?
14:08She replied,
14:10I am quite secure.
14:13So he asked Gehazi,
14:15What can I do for her?
14:18He replied,
14:20She has no son,
14:22and her husband is old.
14:25Elisha told him,
14:27Ask her to come up here.
14:30So he did so,
14:31and she came and stood in the doorway.
14:33He said,
14:35About this time next year,
14:36you will be holding a son.
14:39She said,
14:40Oh no,
14:40Master,
14:41Oh prophet,
14:42do not lie to your servant.
14:45But the woman did conceive,
14:47and at the specified time next year,
14:50she gave birth to a son,
14:51just as Elisha had told her.
14:57The boy grew,
14:58and one day he went out to see his father,
15:00who was with the harvest workers.
15:03He said to his father,
15:05My head,
15:06my head.
15:07His father told the servant,
15:11Carry him home to his mother.
15:13And so he picked him up,
15:14and took him to his mother.
15:17He sat on her lap until midday,
15:20and then he died.
15:22And she went up,
15:23and laid him down on the prophet's bed.
15:27She shut the door behind her,
15:29and left.
15:30She called to her husband,
15:32Send me one of the servants,
15:33and a donkey,
15:35that I can go and see the prophet quickly,
15:36and then return.
15:39He said,
15:40Why do you want to see him today?
15:43It's not the new moon,
15:44or the Sabbath.
15:46She said,
15:47Everything's fine.
15:50She saddled the donkey,
15:51and told her servant,
15:53Lead on.
15:53Do not stop,
15:55unless I say so.
15:58And so she went to visit the prophet,
16:00on Mount Carmel.
16:02When he saw her at a distance,
16:04he said to his servant,
16:05Gehazi,
16:07Look,
16:07it's the Shunammite woman.
16:09Run and meet her,
16:11and ask,
16:12Are you well?
16:13Are you,
16:14and your husband,
16:15and the boy,
16:16well?
16:18She told Gehazi,
16:19Everything is fine.
16:24But when she reached the prophet,
16:25on the mountain,
16:26she grabbed hold of his feet.
16:29Gehazi came,
16:30to push her away,
16:31but the prophet said,
16:32Leave her alone,
16:33for she is very upset.
16:37The Lord has kept the matter hidden from me.
16:40He didn't tell me about it.
16:43She said,
16:44Did I ask my master for a son?
16:47Didn't I say,
16:49Don't mislead me?
16:53Elisha told Gehazi,
16:55Tuck in your robes into your belt,
16:57take my staff,
16:59and go.
17:00Do not stop to exchange greetings with anyone,
17:03and place my staff on the Lord's face.
17:08The mother of the child said,
17:10As certainly as the Lord lives,
17:12and as you live,
17:13I will not leave you.
17:15So Elisha got up,
17:17and followed her home.
17:21Now Gehazi was running on,
17:24ahead of them.
17:25He placed the staff on the child's face,
17:27but there was neither sound,
17:29nor response.
17:31When he came back to Elisha,
17:33he told him,
17:34The child did not wake.
17:38When Elisha arrived at the house,
17:40there was the child,
17:42lying dead on the bed.
17:46He went in by himself,
17:48and closed the door,
17:49and then he prayed to the Lord.
17:51He got on the bed,
17:53and spread his body out over the boy.
17:55He put his mouth on the boy's mouth,
17:58his eyes over the boy's eyes,
17:59and the palms of his hands,
18:01against the boy's palms.
18:05He bent down over him,
18:07and the boy's skin grew warm.
18:10Elisha went back and walked around in the house.
18:14Then he got up on the bed again,
18:16and bent over him.
18:18The child sneezed seven times,
18:21and opened his eyes.
18:25Elisha called to Gehazi,
18:27and said,
18:28Get the Shunammite woman.
18:31So he did so,
18:32and she came.
18:33He said to her,
18:35Take your son.
18:37She came in,
18:38fell at his feet,
18:39and bowed down.
18:41Then she picked up her son,
18:43and left.
18:46Now Elisha went back to Gilgal,
18:48where there was a famine in the land.
18:51Some of the prophets were visiting him,
18:53and he told his servant,
18:55Put the big pot on the fire,
18:57and boil some stew for the prophets.
19:01Someone went out to the field to gather herbs,
19:03and found a wild vine.
19:05He picked some of the fruit,
19:07enough to fill the fold of his robe.
19:10He came back,
19:11cut it up,
19:11and threw slices into the stew pot,
19:14not knowing that they were harmful.
19:18The stew was poured out for the men to eat.
19:22When they ate some of the stew,
19:24they cried out,
19:26Death is in the pot,
19:27so profit.
19:28And they could not eat it.
19:33He said,
19:33Get some flour.
19:35And then he threw the flour into the pot,
19:37and said,
19:38Now pour out some for the men,
19:40that they may eat.
19:42And there was no longer anything harmful in the pot.
19:49Now a man from Baal-Chalisha,
19:51brought some food for the prophets,
19:5420 loaves of bread,
19:55made from the first fruits of the barley harvest,
19:58as well as some fresh ears of grain.
20:02And there was no more.
20:03Elisha said,
20:04Set it before the people,
20:05that they may eat.
20:08But Gehazi said,
20:10How can I feed a hundred men with this?
20:13He replied,
20:15Set it before the people,
20:16so that they may eat.
20:18For this is what the Lord says,
20:20They will eat,
20:21and there will be some left over.
20:24So he set it before them.
20:26They ate,
20:27and had some left over,
20:29just as the Lord had predicted.
20:35This is the word of the Lord.
20:38Thanks be to God.
20:53Mary said,
20:55My soul exalts the Lord,
20:57and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
21:01because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
21:07For from now on,
21:09all generations will call me blessed,
21:11because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
21:15and holy is his name.
21:18From generation to generation,
21:21he is merciful to those who fear him.
21:24He has demonstrated power with his arm.
21:28He has scattered those whose pride wells up
21:31from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
21:34He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
21:37and has lifted up those of lowly position.
21:41He has filled the hungry with good things,
21:44and has sent the rich away empty.
21:47He has helped his servant Israel,
21:50remembering his mercy,
21:52as he promised to our ancestors,
21:55to Abraham,
21:56and to his descendants for ever.
22:00Glory be to the Father,
22:02and to the Son,
22:03and to the Holy Spirit,
22:05as it was in the beginning,
22:07is now,
22:08and ever shall be,
22:10world without end.
22:11Amen.
22:21The Epistle to the Hebrews,
22:24Chapters 2 and 3
22:28We must pay closer attention to what we have heard,
22:31in order that we do not drift away.
22:35For if the message spoken through angels proved to be so firm,
22:39that every violation or disobedience received its just penalty,
22:44how will we escape,
22:46if we neglect such a great salvation?
22:50It was first communicated through the Lord,
22:52and was confirmed to us by those who heard him,
22:56while God confirmed their witness with signs and wonders,
22:59on various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
23:06For he did not put the world to come,
23:10about which we are speaking,
23:12under the control of angels.
23:15Instead, someone testified somewhere,
23:17what is man that you think of him,
23:20or the son of man that you care for him?
23:23You made him lower than the angels for a little while.
23:27You crowned him with glory and honour.
23:29You put all things under his control.
23:34For when he put all things under his control,
23:36he left nothing outside of his control.
23:40At present,
23:41we do not yet see all the things under his control,
23:44but we see Jesus,
23:46who was made lower than the angels for a little while,
23:48but now crowned with glory and honour,
23:52because he suffered death,
23:54so that by God's grace,
23:56he would experience death on behalf of everyone.
24:00For it was fitting for him,
24:02for whom and through whom all things exist,
24:05in bringing many sons to glory,
24:08to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect,
24:12through suffering.
24:14Indeed,
24:15he who makes holy,
24:17and those being made holy,
24:19have all the same origin.
24:21And so he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters,
24:25saying,
24:25I will proclaim your name to my brothers.
24:28In the midst of the assembly,
24:30I will praise you.
24:32Again he says,
24:34I will be confident in him,
24:36and again,
24:37here I am with the children God has given me.
24:41Therefore,
24:42since the children share in flesh and blood,
24:45he likewise shared in their humanity,
24:48so that through death,
24:50he could destroy the one who holds the power of death,
24:53that is,
24:54the devil,
24:56and set free those who were held in slavery,
24:58all their lives by the fear of death.
25:03Surely his concern is not for angels,
25:06but he is concerned for Abraham's descendants.
25:11Therefore,
25:12he had to be made like his brothers and sisters,
25:15in every respect,
25:17so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest,
25:21in things relating to God,
25:23to make atonement for the sins of the people.
25:27For since he himself suffered when he was tempted,
25:31he is able to help those who are tempted.
25:34Therefore,
25:36holy brothers and sisters,
25:38partners in a heavenly calling,
25:40take note of Jesus,
25:42the apostle and high priest,
25:44we confess,
25:46who is faithful to the one who appointed him,
25:49as Moses was also in God's house.
25:53For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses,
25:56just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself.
26:04Every house is built by someone,
26:07but the builder of all things is God.
26:11Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant,
26:15to testify to the things that would be spoken.
26:19Christ is faithful as a son over God's house.
26:23We are of his house.
26:25In fact,
26:26if we hold firmly to our confidence,
26:29and the hope we take forever.
26:33Therefore,
26:34as the Holy Spirit says,
26:36O the day that you would listen as he speaks.
26:40This is the word of the Lord.
26:44Thanks be to God.
26:57Now according to your word,
27:00Sovereign Lord,
27:01permit your servant to depart in peace.
27:04For my eyes have seen your salvation,
27:07that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
27:12a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
