00:00The ninth pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Browns left tackle, Spencer Fano.
00:06Joining us right now, Spencer, welcome to the show.
00:08How are you?
00:10Honestly, if it were any other day, I'd be 100% fine.
00:13The Cavs game's got me a little down.
00:15Have you gotten into that misery as well?
00:19I have, I have, but I'm kind of an OKC hater right now.
00:23So seeing the Spurs win did lift my spirits just a little more.
00:27Wait, where does that stem from?
00:28Is it just their boring style of basketball or do you have like a deeper reason?
00:33You know, I'm kind of a guy that just doesn't want to see the same team win twice.
00:38What if it's your own team?
00:40That's different.
00:42Well, here's the thing.
00:43We now, I know you got this whole job as Browns left tackle and you're learning the NFL and
00:48all these very difficult things.
00:50We're going to need you at game three, big dog.
00:51We're going to need you to put your powers of intimidation on.
00:54You're a hulking figure.
00:56Can you just show up courtside?
00:57I don't have the power to get you those tickets or the money to get you those tickets, but
01:00can you show up courtside for game three and just hulk up and maybe get into their cage
01:06a little bit for me?
01:08You know what?
01:08I have absolutely no idea how to get tickets, but I will try to do that.
01:13I will try.
01:14Your teammates with an owner of the team.
01:16Yeah.
01:16I would, I would, I would talk with the miles.
01:18I think it's his name.
01:20Okay.
01:22Wow.
01:23Are you just, are you just learning that or did you, did you already know that?
01:27I had no idea.
01:28Oh, he's a minority owner.
01:29So I don't want to make it seem we might've presented it like he's like a massive owner.
01:32He's got a minority stake, but yeah, miles Garrett.
01:35He's part owner.
01:35He's part owner of the calves.
01:36It's kind of wild.
01:37So, uh, all right, well, it makes sense.
01:39It makes sense.
01:39Uh, let me ask you the move to left tackle.
01:42Todd Munkin says he's definitely starting you over there.
01:44Uh, how comfortable do you feel at this point after playing so much of your college career
01:47at right tackle?
01:48Oh, I feel fine.
01:50I feel fine.
01:50I've done enough reps, uh, in my life at both spots that it's really, like I've said before,
01:56just wherever I take my reps in practice is where I feel more comfortable.
01:59And I've been taking them at left tackle.
02:01So I'm feeling, I feel fine.
02:02So with that, um, I know you're saying you're feeling fine there.
02:06Cause you have so much experience at it.
02:08Uh, it just, in terms of your kind of rookie curve here of kind of coming up to speed in
02:14the NFL, is it, is it still not even just the football side of things?
02:18I'm just talking about life being in the NFL now for a full month.
02:22Has it slowed down at all?
02:23Or do you still feel kind of like you're going by the seat of your pants?
02:27It has slowed down.
02:28I feel like, I feel like this week has been the week where it's really started to slow
02:32down, which I am so grateful for.
02:34Um, I'm finally, I feel like I'm getting to that point where I'm just, I'm adjusting
02:38to the speed.
02:39Um, yeah, it's starting, it's starting to slow down for me.
02:42We weren't there.
02:43How did the quarterbacks look in particular to Sean and Shador today?
02:46Oh, they looked awesome.
02:48They looked awesome.
02:49Those guys, those guys are freaking leaders and just amazing players.
02:54Now, if you had to say one looked better than the other, I would answer that question.
02:57Maybe tap the race for us.
02:59I won't.
03:00Oh, that's smart.
03:01That's smart.
03:02You know, I gotta say, you might be a rookie, but you're giving off some vet vibes with some
03:09of these answers here.
03:10Oh, but Miles is a part on.
03:11I have no idea who, what quarterbacks, who did better?
03:14I don't even know.
03:14Did either of them reach out to you when you got drafted at all or no?
03:18Oh yeah.
03:19Yeah.
03:19They, uh, I kind of just got a message from, from both of them and it was freak.
03:23That was so cool.
03:24It was like just seeing a celebrity on my phone after draft night.
03:28Who had the better message?
03:32Spencer.
03:33What are you going to do to me here, man?
03:36Hey, hey, we're just trying to make some headlines here, buddy.
03:38This is the training you need.
03:40Okay.
03:40This is the, you're doing great, by the way.
03:42You're killing it.
03:42You're passing it.
03:43You're passing it.
03:44So I, I do think it's interesting here.
03:47Um, I guess I, you play in a spot where you guys get credit together and you, you kind
03:53of get blamed together as well, but it is, it's your first year in the NFL.
03:57What are your, what are your kind of goals here for your rookie year in Cleveland?
04:01Um, my goal is just to be a damn good player.
04:04I feel like that's, that's my one goal.
04:06I just want to be a damn good player and help this team win games.
04:10Uh, you've made a lot about Joe Thomas being one of your idols and, and watching him as
04:15you were getting older and getting better at this level.
04:17Uh, have you talked to Joe and what advice have you gotten from him about how to play the
04:20position and then we just kind of played phone tag for a while.
04:25I just, I felt so bad.
04:26It was like, yeah, during these first few months, it was, there was a lot of free time.
04:32So I need to, I need to call him.
04:34I need to call him.
04:35I want to talk to him so bad.
04:36All right.
04:36So we, we kind of already told you about miles of the end for the courtside tickets.
04:39When you talk to Joe, get some of the apple cheddar, uh, meat snacks from his, uh,
04:45hall of fame beef company.
04:47I'm going to tell you, Spencer, I'm a big guy.
04:49I know about food.
04:50I don't know about really anything else.
04:51It'll change your life, Spencer.
04:53Okay.
04:54So wait, say that one more time.
04:55The, the beef sticks.
04:56Oh yeah.
04:56Apple, apple cheddar beef sticks.
04:59And it is a game changer.
05:01He gave them to me.
05:01If he, if he gave me a six pack of them, you're going to, you're going to get more than
05:05a six
05:05pack.
05:05I'll just tell you that.
05:07Well, I will hold you to that.
05:11Hold Joe to it.
05:12I don't have that kind of, I don't have Joe Thomas money.
05:15No, come back for Nick.
05:16Be like, where's my beef sticks?
05:18Get ordered online.
05:18If I go in and I get denied, I'm coming straight to you.
05:22That's fair.
05:23That's fair.
05:23By the way, you, you picked the absolute biggest B here.
05:26So I will wilt.
05:27I will wilt.
05:28All right.
05:28So I do want to know, like, what's standing out your first month in the NFL is you're going
05:33through practices and you're working with coach Munkin.
05:37Um, I don't know.
05:38There's just a lot of, everything's just different from the college level where everything moves
05:43so much faster.
05:44Everybody's so much stronger.
05:45Therefore, I need to play faster and play stronger.
05:49Um, so I think that's just what I'm kind of getting used to and, you know, playing faster
05:53and stronger while also doing all the little things and perfecting my technique.
05:57How is it having your brother there?
05:59It's so freaking cool.
06:01No, like it's really, it's weird because I'm in an entirely different side of the country
06:07right now than I've lived at my whole life.
06:09But at the same time, the dude that I have lived with my whole life is here too.
06:13So it hasn't felt like that huge of a, of a change.
06:17It's been, it's been really cool.
06:19You know, you could kind of help your brother make the team.
06:23If just like once a practice, you just kind of give him the old, Oh, I didn't even, he
06:28just flew right by me.
06:31And by the way, you know, he could owe you a couple of ducats on the back.
06:34And I'm just saying, if you wanted to collude with your brother to get him a spot, you
06:37could do that.
06:38It's rookie year.
06:38You signed a massive contract with guaranteed money.
06:41Yeah.
06:41You'll be fine.
06:44Well, you know, at the end of the day, we're brothers and I can't let that happen.
06:50Bragging rights are absolutely a thing.
06:53So I, I'm always curious about that.
06:55I have three brothers and we, we just, we, we're not athletic, uh, not like you guys.
07:00I do want to know, like, do you, you guys ever get in tiffs at practice, whether at college
07:05or certainly now in the pros where, because you guys know each other, they got to know how
07:09to get under each other's skin, right?
07:11Oh yeah.
07:11Oh yeah.
07:12But honestly, we haven't had really a fight like that since maybe my, in high school.
07:19I mean, in high school and in the little league, whenever, whenever we went against each other,
07:25whether it was in practice or just us training, we would fight every single time.
07:28Like there would not be a single, there was not a single time that we didn't fight.
07:32But I remember when we got to college, we did our first few one-on-one reps and we're looking
07:37at each other, getting a little mad.
07:39And then we're like, you know what?
07:40We're adults now.
07:41There's no need for us to just start fighting in front of all these college coaches.
07:45So we've gained a little bit of maturity.
07:48Uh, I have no idea how you're planning to navigate this.
07:50Is this, is this accurate?
07:51Uh, I read somewhere that you're going to, you're, you're, you're getting married in
07:54July.
07:55I am.
07:57So how are you going to plan a wedding or have you just moved it all off?
07:59You're like, I'm not even doing any of the planning.
08:01I'll have, you'll have your fiance plan at all.
08:03And then you're just going to kind of like show up as everything happens.
08:07Oh yeah.
08:08My plan is I'm just going to show up to the wedding and get married.
08:11That's my job.
08:12Oh, now I'm insanely jealous.
08:13Yeah.
08:13Yeah.
08:14I was too involved in the process.
08:15I have so many tips I could have given you, but that's, that's the way I wish it was.
08:19You know what?
08:19It's, it's been pretty freaking awesome.
08:21Like her, her family and obviously they're coordinating it with like my parents.
08:26And so they're kind of doing all the planning and I'm just going to show up and get married.
08:29And I feel like we've got to know, are we going DJ here?
08:32Are we getting a band?
08:33What's what's what?
08:34I'm going DJ.
08:34I'm going DJ.
08:35Okay.
08:36I'm so confident with that.
08:37Have you, now have you picked out the DJ?
08:39Oh, I have.
08:40All right.
08:40So I got to know, cause they always ask you for like songs, uh, that, that are,
08:45that need to be played in songs that aren't going to be played.
08:47They get a whole list of songs you don't want.
08:49Give me a sample of something you need played at the wedding and give me something that you
08:52cannot have being played at the reception.
08:55Uh, some examples.
08:56So me and my fiance, we actually love like older songs.
09:01So like some songs that I need to have played are like, even the nights are better by air
09:05supply or like dancing, dancing songs.
09:09Like, uh, like freaking boogie wonderland by earth, wind and fire.
09:13Um, we were definitely going to play a whole lot of earth, wind and fire, um, songs they
09:17can't have.
09:18I don't want any mosh pit songs, you know, like, uh, I don't want any songs where like
09:23everybody's in the middle of jumping, you know, we're going to be like shout, for instance,
09:26doesn't do it for you.
09:27The classic wedding song shout.
09:29No, it sounds good.
09:30Just as long as there's not people just jumping around in the middle, you know, I'm not,
09:33I'm not a mosh pit guy.
09:34So no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:37No, no, no.
09:38No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:44Uh, all right.
09:45Well, back to football, uh, George Warhop, he's it's a new element for the Browns.
09:48Uh, how has it been working alongside him?
09:51It's been so cool.
09:53I mean, obviously I'll make mistakes every single day, but he's the guy that always has
09:57answers for me.
09:58Um, and has just been able to, um, coach me up and I'm at a kind of my journey and
10:05my
10:05path is just me listening to what he tells me to do.
10:08Um, and I feel like if I do that, I'll end up in where I want to be.
10:12You know, Spencer, we had your O-line coach from Utah on, and he was great.
10:16And he said the best things about you and your family and everything.
10:19And I know he's now at Michigan and you've done such a good job.
10:23We have a thing here called gets us meter.
10:25So when somebody comes in and they say the right things without knowing they're saying
10:28the right things, that means a lot to a town like Cleveland.
10:31So I know you've got a younger brother who might also be, you know, thinking about Ohio
10:38state, but maybe there are some Michigan ties there as well.
10:41Might I just say, if your younger brother did choose Ohio state, you would break the
10:46gets us meter.
10:47And I don't think you'd have to buy a beer in town ever again.
10:52Hmm.
10:53You know what?
10:53That would be a very tempting offer if I drink.
10:57Oh, okay.
10:58A cheeseburger.
10:59Yeah.
10:59Cheese.
10:59I'm a big cheeseburger guy.
11:00A cheeseburger might do it for me.
11:04Now he's giving you beef sticks and cheeseburgers.
11:06I think Nick is just offering you a lot of food now, Spencer.
11:09I mean, I'm an alignment, so I don't see the problem with it.
11:12See, easy way to your heart.
11:14Yeah, this is, we do burger bets on the show, Spencer.
11:17So I actually have no, so no pressure, but you got to let the guys know on my behalf.
11:22I have a burger bet with our beat reporter, Daryl, that you guys are going to the playoffs
11:27this year and we'll win nine or more games.
11:29So I have bet, I'm a fat ass.
11:32So me betting a burger is like swearing on a Bible for some folks.
11:37So I just want you to know, let your guys know that Nick Wilson believes in you guys,
11:41and I know that will go a long way.
11:43Yes, sir.
11:44Yes, sir.
11:45You know, I'm feeling the freaking energy right now from the burger heavens.
11:49I'm feeling the burger heavens energy right now.
11:51Does it feel like, I mean, this five-win team last year, does it feel like this is a team
11:55that is not only way better than that, but also has some higher aspirations?
12:01Obviously, I have no idea.
12:02You know, I have no idea what it's like, and this is my first experience in this league,
12:07but this is by far the best team I've ever been a part of.
12:10So I don't know how much that, exactly, that's what I just told him.
12:14I just told him, I don't know.
12:18Who's yelling at you?
12:22No, no worries.
12:23All right.
12:24One last one, because we know you got to get a shower, got to get some food in before meetings.
12:29I know it's only been a couple weeks.
12:31What's Munkin like?
12:33He's freaking awesome.
12:35I mean, that's what I just, he has a standard, and he's not going to allow us to not meet
12:41that standard.
12:43That's the kind of coach he is, and every single day he's up there, he's loud,
12:47he's making sure we know what he wants us to do.
12:51So having a coach like that, and he believes in us to do it as well, it's freaking awesome.
12:56All right.
12:57I needed this.
12:58I needed a feel-good kind of interview here, Spencer.
13:01So welcome to Cleveland.
13:02We're very happy to have you.
13:03Very excited to see what you do this year.
13:05And you've been very generous with your time.
13:07Now go get a burger or something, okay?
13:10Yes, sir.
13:11Thank you so much.
13:12Spencer Fano there.
