00:00We're welcome in a man who knows something about football here on the make it right call
00:03Kyle Wright hotline he's the host of the Ross Tucker football podcast you guys can check him
00:09out on social media at Ross Tucker NFL and he joins us on behalf of my front page story.com
00:16Ross it's been far too long my friend great to hear from you yeah of course great to talk with
00:21you guys as well and I feel like we always talk when the Browns have a bunch of draft picks
00:26and
00:26that is the case yet again I'm fired up to talk with you guys and dive in what's been the
00:33reaction
00:33so far give me give me tell me the temperature of Browns fans like mix it's mixed bag I don't
00:40think anyone's upset it's well no I it's interesting they wanted wide receiver at the front yeah I think
00:45there was disappointment that we missed out on Tate and Tyson I think it's tough to kind of get
00:51excited about a tackle if you don't know he's going to be a left tackle long term and then I
00:55in
00:56fairness it's my fault because I have been anti Casey Concepcion because of the drops that I think
01:02a lot of people that's what they know of Casey Concepcion Casey can't catch and then uh uh
01:07Concepcion no reception yeah and it kind of it's not branding and really it's good branding
01:13wow way to welcome a young man to the city next you've done it you've done it well with open
01:19arms I
01:19know you didn't know they would take them so I mean I gotta tell you I mean first of all
01:25I like the fact that they traded down and still got the first offensive lineman off the board
01:31so to move down three picks to pick up what they did and they still couldn't take anybody could have
01:37taken Monroe Freeling or Caden Proctor or Francis Maui Noah Spencer Fano is the guy that they targeted
01:45I had somebody tell me they think he could start at all five spots which is super impressive for an
01:51NFL player now the flip side is if the guy is like a total freak show left tackle they're not
01:57even
01:57talking about that they're not even saying that um but I think you put him at left tackle you see
02:04what he can do I think there's a pretty good chance he's going to be able to hold it down
02:08I personally
02:09think the arm length thing is a little bit overrated and I think he is a really really good
02:14player and I'm actually pretty impressed overall with how the Browns have remade that offensive line
02:20I was skeptical I wouldn't know what they would do but I mean Elton Jenkins Zion Johnson Titus Howard I
02:28mean it I feel like they're in a better spot up front than they were last year and then with
02:35Concepcion I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this today on your station but I think
02:42that Todd Munkin looked at Concepcion and saw Zay Flowers I I think he looked at Concepcion and said
02:49I know what I did with Zay the last few years in Baltimore and how productive and important Zay was
02:56for what they were doing Concepcion can be my my Zay Flowers you watching their highlight videos
03:03very very similar you know undersized electric dynamic so if I'm a Browns fan I feel good about
03:12the trade down and still getting the number one offensive lineman we'll see whether or not you
03:16know he ends up playing to that but at least we know the Browns had him number one and then
03:21I like
03:22the idea of Munkin being able to maximize Concepcion whatever that is you know whatever that is for
03:28him Munkin obviously has a vision for him and has a track record of being able to capitalize on players
03:35with that skill set Ross we've heard a lot from guys like Matt Harmon who are just adamant that the
03:40drops are just not something that they care about and like the wide receiver community is stressing the
03:45idea that because he's so good with running all the routes and everything that happens before the catch
03:49and then he's so good at everything that happens after the catch is made that it just kind of off
03:54shoots and off balances everything that happens with the idea that he does have so many drops how
03:59do you look at it when the wide receiver community tries to make that claim yeah I mean I haven't
04:06I
04:06know Matt I like Matt I'm I'm not a member I guess of the receiver community I don't know I
04:12didn't know
04:12all that have you been invited at least it's an invite only thing I'm surprised you're not invited
04:16though because they'd love to have you well I think I'm spending too much time as the as the club
04:22president of the conditional seventh round pick trade um when Phil Savage when Phil Savage made
04:29arguably the best move in Brown's franchise history trading that conditional seventh for me back in 05
04:34or no 06 I think um at any rate then he made the worst decision ever by cutting me but
04:39that's another
04:40story um I I don't agree with that at all I think the number one job of a wide receiver
04:49is to catch the
04:51football the the position is literally called receiver and I remember talking about this every
04:58week last year with Flacco and then Gabriel and then Shador felt like the Browns had more than their
05:04fair share of drops and it's just really hard you know it's not easy to get guys open to scheme
05:11them
05:11open and then the the line protects the quarterback reads it right the quarterback throws the ball to
05:18the right guy it's on and then the guy drops the ball I mean those are hard to come back
05:23from you know
05:23because it's still like inevitably it happens on third and six you know or some of these high leverage
05:29downs which is what we say about everything now high leverage and so I think that is a concern and
05:35yeah I don't know exactly what his drop rate is or whatever or if they believe that there are things
05:41that they can do to improve it it was 10 percent last year yeah I guess the way I look
05:46at it is
05:47you know how when these guys come into the NBA a lot of them they they they can't really shoot
05:54that
05:54great but then three years later it's like they never miss or you know they're a much better
06:00shooter just because they're professionals that's all they do now I wonder if they look at that like
06:05that for receivers and feel like hey we can get that we can improve that for Concepcion maybe they felt
06:13like some of it had to do with the quarterback at A&M I don't know I know a lot
06:16of people really like
06:17Concepcion I mean the guy is electric and he's gonna be uh he's gonna be a roller coaster for
06:25Browns fans because he's gonna have some of the best most explosive plays that you guys have seen
06:33in years and the stadium's gonna go crazy and then he probably will have a couple of drops where you
06:38guys are gonna groan uh the hope would be that obviously the the former far outpaces the latter
06:44all right so I know you said you think it's a little overrated but I think it's interesting
06:49that the that at least people in football have gone on damage control about Spencer Fano's
06:55uh arms saying that uh that basically the combine short of the man seven-eighths of an inch
07:01uh Spencer Fano actually said today both the Browns and Steelers measured his arms at 33 inches
07:07on their respective official visits I am I the only person new to the fact that apparently the
07:14the combine uh arm measurement crew isn't up to the isn't up to snuff you're not the only person
07:22but what's wild is is that there's been a um between like they do it like at the senior bowl
07:29in the all-star games and then they do it the combine and then sometimes they do it the pro
07:33day
07:34and between those three measurements it can vary by an inch so what you end up doing probably
07:41is taking the middle you know I mean I remember when I was coming out sometimes I was six four
07:46and
07:47three eighths sometimes I was six four and six eighths which is three quarters Nick I know Matt's
07:52not your strength um but most of the time I was six four and five eighths and it's like is
07:59that is
07:59that gonna be a difference between whether I'm good or not like an eighth of an inch one way or
08:03the other
08:03yep I just don't believe I don't believe I don't believe for Spencer Fano that that the arm length
08:10is going to determine you know it's not like he's me I I had sub 31 inch arms which is
08:16ridiculous which
08:17is why I should get a lot more credit for being one of the 10 best offensive linemen NFL history
08:22with
08:23sub 31 inch arms rather than just a journeyman or whatever um I don't think it's that short that
08:31that's going to be the difference what was your favorite pick from last night or favorite thing
08:35you saw a team do it's a good question um you know what's funny about that Jonathan
08:44the stuff that comes to mind I'm not a negative person you guys know I come on all the time
08:49and
08:49I'm a positive person for some reason I feel like the things that jump out to me are the negatives
08:54I
08:55guess I really liked what the Jets did you know the Jets at number two first of all the Jets
09:02traded
09:02sauce Gardner and Quinn and Williams they have three first round picks next year when you're talking
09:08about like Leonard Moore from Notre Dame Jeremiah Smith Ohio State Dylan Stewart South Carolina you know
09:18all the quarterbacks you know you talk to any NFL team they'll tell you they'd rather have a first
09:23round pick next year than this year so I already like what the Jets and Mugi had done getting those
09:28three first round picks for next year then they end up having three picks this year with David Bailey
09:34pretty much the consensus best edge rusher at two then you get the best tight end by far in Kenyon
09:43Sadiq at 16 then you come back in and get Omar Cooper one of the I don't know top four
09:50or five receivers
09:52at number 30 I think all three of those guys will start I think the Jets need those guys to
09:58start
09:58so I kind of like what the Jets have done with all these trades all these moves the last year
10:03or so
10:03so one of the big moments of the night the big one of the first big surprises Ty Simpson going
10:09to the
10:09Rams at 13 and then as the night progressed we heard back from McVay back at the owners meeting saying
10:17he hadn't really done a lot of work on Ty Simpson because they had other needs there was the press
10:21conference where Sean McVay seemed pissed and Les Snead looked over at him multiple times like
10:26you want to chime in here buddy I just I'd like it's interesting because I thought that was the
10:31perfect spot for Ty Simpson given Stafford given the winning culture there but if McVay doesn't want
10:37him should we be selling our Ty Simpson stock before he even starts a game or even gets into the
10:42practice well so I disagree with your with your initial premise I dare you I I don't believe for
10:49a second that McVay didn't want Ty Simpson I mean you're talking about arguably the best head coach
10:56in the NFL the Rams know exactly what they have in McVay any guy that's the OC or DC there
11:03gets a head
11:03job somewhere else they know that McVay is one of the few coaches that actually brings eyeballs and
11:09excitement to the to a franchise to think that after they had the season they had last year
11:18and how they feel about McVay that they would take the quarterback of the future without him being on
11:25board is laughable what what value is there in taking Ty Simpson if McVay is not on board and he
11:34leaves
11:34when Stafford retires I mean you don't have McVay anymore I mean the value in Ty Simpson is being
11:40coached by McVay I think what McVay did and I feel pretty strongly about this was performative I think
11:48he knew these clips were going to be all over and he needs to be able to sell to Matthew
11:55Stafford
11:56the veterans on the leadership committee that guys that you know they kind of went over my head on
12:02this one you know I I told him he was all right but I wanted a guy to help us
12:08win the Super Bowl this
12:09year I think he knows he couldn't be like giddy I'm so excited about Ty Simpson yeah I can't wait
12:15for
12:15Stafford to retire so Ty Simpson can be our quarterback he knew he couldn't do that uh and because I
12:22think he
12:22knows that those guys are not going to be happy what veteran player is going to be happy that you
12:28just got a guy that's going to help out the team maybe in 2028 those guys are furious and they
12:34should
12:34be they might have been the best team in the league last year Stafford was MVP they were one play
12:39away
12:40in two different games in Seattle from basically winning the Super Bowl and so I think McVay uh did a
12:49very smart thing to act like he wasn't totally on board I'm not buying it Ross you know our quarterback
12:55room uh it's Tashaun it's Shador and it's Dylan Gabriel do you feel like the Browns will add to
12:59that this weekend or they'll just stay pat it's a really good question um I don't know I mean I
13:09I would
13:10think given the volume of picks they have JP I would think that if there's someone that
13:17Munkin likes I think that they might take them you know with with all those third fourth fifth round
13:24picks that's a lot so it gives them the opportunity to take Drew Aller or Nussmeyer or whoever you know
13:32whoever that they feel like they get and they proved last year that they like getting what they
13:39think is uh you know depressed asset they like getting what they think is value with the Shador
13:44Sanders pick so that would not surprise me um but I don't think they need to you have two super
13:52young
13:52quarterbacks and you guys have to tell me it seems like there's a lot of a lot of steam coming
13:58out of
13:58Cleveland about Deshaun Watson having a real shot to be the quarterback oh there is some steam there
14:04there's a lot of people selling that steam Ross he did the thing that we all knew he would which
14:08in
14:08the one day was open to the media he looked awesome in practice because he's always looked awesome in
14:12practice yeah I'm always skeptical of those guys you know it's a lot different when you're wearing that
14:19jersey and nobody's allowed to touch you it's a lot it's a lot different in that regard but honestly
14:26it's probably worth a shot you know at least in training camp and minicamp and maybe it's probably
14:33worth a shot to see if you can rehab him if you can get him to play back what it
14:38used to be I mean
14:39I know we've all given up on him with the injuries and whatever but he's only really struggled under
14:44one coach and that was Kevin Savansky so maybe it's worth giving him a second chance you gave him all
14:50his money anyway might as well give him a spin Ross you mentioned a couple names of quarterback
14:55there Drew Aller who's from down the road Medina Garrett Nussmeyer's got a lot of fans Carson Beck
15:00played for Todd Munkin back at Georgia do you have a favorite of the day two day three quarterbacks
15:08regardless of their fit with the Browns
15:13yeah probably um but it's like from a pure entertainment standpoint
15:19Talon Green from Arkansas so my favorite player growing up was Randall Cunningham and when I watched
15:28Talon Green who's like 6'6", 230 ran a 4'3", 40 jumped 40 inches I can't unsee Randall Cunningham
15:40and Munkin worked wonders with Lamar the last few years in Baltimore absolutely wonders he took
15:50Lamar's game to a much higher level from a passing standpoint if you say this year is going to be
15:58primarily about Deshaun and Shador I kind of like the idea of taking Talon Green later in the draft
16:06and having him as the number three
16:08and working with him and developing him
16:11and depending on how things play out
16:13maybe he plays the last five games
16:15you know maybe he gets out there
16:17and maybe you can see if you have something there
16:19or if you have to get the franchise guy
16:21in 2027
