00:00former browns quarterback former uh number one pick by the cleveland browns a first round pick
00:05former notre dame star and now fox college football analyst brady quinn joins us now
00:10brady welcome to the show thanks for having me guys well it's great to have you here always
00:15great to catch up with you now i know we're talking football with you but everybody can
00:20talk lebron so i do want to know where you think he's going and do you want him back with
00:26the
00:26cavaliers well i hope it's cleveland you know it would uh make some sense to end it where it all
00:32started and this is a team too that i think is is obviously close to being able to win a
00:36championship
00:36so with his services you'd hope that they'd be able to construct a roster to be able to make it
00:41happen um that would be the storybook ending that i think i'd hope for being a a classmate of his
00:46same class coming out of high school but uh i don't know i mean obviously he's had success in
00:50miami too there's a lot of intriguing things it's the place he left cleveland for in the first place
00:55so i think it's down to those two i think he wants familiarity he wants to go to places where
00:59he's had success before uh and obviously two places that have their pros and cons but to me
01:05it makes the most sense if you really want this storybook ending if we're going to film this whole
01:09thing why not cleveland why not come back and try to bring one more title to the calves all right
01:13so
01:14again we're not gonna make the whole thing about lebron but you're the same age uh you both played in
01:18cleveland at the same time did you ever have any run-ins or any interactions with lebron
01:23yeah just a little bit kind of going to some of the games but that was obviously years ago a
01:27long
01:27time ago i actually think that all got cut off when um i got married my wife's from boston and
01:33i i made
01:34her take me to a celtics calves playoff game uh but in the garden so i told her i said
01:41hey i'm rooting
01:42for the calves she goes you can't wear calves gears where we're sitting that's how i got the tickets
01:47is you're gonna have to wear a celtics shirt and so we were parked somewhere close enough where i'm
01:53pretty sure lebron looked at me wearing a boston celtics t-shirt and just shook his head so uh that
02:00was pretty much the end of that uh but we you know still married and got five kids i guess
02:04i
02:04held on to a good one so he risked it all for love jonathan that is that is beautiful beautiful
02:09story at the end of the day also a story of lebron being very petty and vindictive so you know
02:14like
02:14that that also tracks yeah tracks very much so uh all right let's get to the quarterback stuff
02:18here brady because uh we don't know if it's going to be deshaun or shador watson deshaun watson or
02:23shador sanders uh which one do you think it'll ultimately end up being to start the season i think
02:29it'll be deshaun i mean they've got so much money wrapped up into him and be quite honest i think
02:32if
02:32you look at the body of work of deshaun when he was healthy and i know that's dating him but
02:37he's a
02:38much better fit for what todd munkin wants to do than what he was being asked to do under kevin
02:43i always kind of thought that was a bad pairing together and you know it's one of those deals
02:49where i hopefully he's healthy enough he can stay healthy and the browns can actually see what he's
02:53capable of but i would think from the financial perspective and the experience it would make
02:58the most sense to start the season with deshaun now if things go sideways quick you know then you
03:04see what you have in shador i think he also did enough last year to make him intriguing and to
03:09make
03:09you want to take a look at him a little bit longer before you go into next year's draft and
03:14i've said
03:14this all along on a lot our radio show and everything else we've done like next year's draft class to
03:20me
03:20it's one of the most intriguing i think i've ever seen since i've got into broadcasting and there's
03:24legitimately about 10 to 12 guys and that's not an overreaction like there's 10 to 12 guys
03:30who i think have the capabilities of being looked at as first round picks now
03:34we'll see how this year goes we'll see how they perform um that always plays a factor in all of
03:39it but you know next year and even the following year you're gonna have guys who are gonna become
03:44draft eligible they're absolute studs that are any first round picks so it's gonna be fascinating to
03:48see uh what the browns do in particular later on the season or if deshaun gets off to a slow
03:52start
03:53all right brady so i think you're kind of the perfect guy to ask about this you know we got
03:58to see
03:58shador up close and personal in camp last year and i i'm not a shador a big shador fan my
04:06partner
04:06more was leading up to the draft but i just i like the way the kid handles himself and how
04:10you know how the relationship that he goes out of his way to foster with fans and then we also
04:16see
04:16things like uh like rex ryan's commentary about shador and the kind of the superstardom because you're
04:23a college football analyst and an nfl analyst what's kind of your read on on shador here now that we're
04:28entering year two in cleveland well i think he's he's got the utmost confidence like that's the
04:32one thing that i think throughout their success or even their first year when they're at colorado
04:37didn't have quite as much success as year two you know he remained confident and really you know i
04:43think that's what's helped him continue at times to play at a high level because he's not blessed
04:49with the most speed he doesn't have the strongest arm even though he can make all the throws
04:52but it's just it's kind of his unwavering belief in himself and his ability to be able to get the
04:56job done that i think keeps him you know in a quarterback competition and will keep him afloat
05:01in the nfl you know as far as the following um you know that's something that's just you know you
05:06can't fault these kids nowadays um for making these sorts of business decisions you know not to
05:11completely go on a side tangent but like i look at what tom brady's doing right now and he's a
05:15guy who
05:16made a ton of money in the nfl don't get me wrong but he played 23 seasons if you compare
05:21his career
05:21earnings to kurt cousins for example who didn't play as long who hasn't been as successful
05:26and granted i get it tom brady got in the nfl before him but still he didn't make as much
05:30and i
05:30do wonder if he's doing some of these things that we see him do now trying to make up for
05:35some of the
05:35loss and him taking those team bs counts and not doing quite as much and so i think you know
05:40with
05:41shador it's more of the opposite he's trying his best to build his brand make sure he takes advantage
05:46of every opportunity to make money off the the field and and connect with his fans like that
05:51there's a lot of athletes who are trying to do that nowadays in particular in college so
05:55it's kind of a new age i know it's it's awkward or you know sometimes hard for a lot of
05:59us fans to
05:59really embrace you know guys who conduct themselves in a certain way but that's the world we're living
06:06in like whether it's right wrong or indifferent and we can all like feel like you know kind of feel
06:11sour about it um you know even jake paul for example ohio kid you know a lot of people want
06:16to
06:16watch those fights for him to get knocked out i'll tell you this much though he's made a lot of
06:19money you know fighting in fights where everyone wants to see him get knocked out like he finally
06:23did versus anthony joshua but up to that point uh he played the heel he played it well so i
06:28kind of
06:29feel like in today's world um guys who are doing controversial things but end up you know getting
06:34a strong following end up getting a lot of brand uh awareness and built out of it they end up
06:38cashing in in the end that's just the world we're living in one of the big arguments i make in
06:42defending you know chador is the idea that his environment last year the players around him
06:47last year just it was a really bad offensive line that's why they brought five new offensive linemen
06:51in they didn't have the wide receivers that's why they drafted two in the first two rounds uh even
06:55the run game you know by the time it got to chador judkins was already injured uh halfway through was
07:00injured how important is it based off your career and everything you've seen that the environment you
07:06enter into uh really dictates how much success you can have yeah the situation circumstance is paramount
07:12for most players you know i would i would be willing to sit there and say look i don't care
07:16how good was patrick holmes or tom brady if they don't have help out around them you know they're
07:21not going to be able to you know be the players you know that tom has been or patrick is
07:25you know it
07:26does take a big supporting cast you have to have a lot of the pieces that you're talking about
07:31uh and so that that definitely plays a factor i mean i think you know one of the things i
07:35was most
07:35curious to see for sure last year was on teams you could see them make those nfl throws
07:39but their offense wasn't that of which he was asked to do the same thing she was gonna be asked
07:44to do in fancy's offense and i think at times you know he has struggled a little bit like with
07:49that
07:49which every rookie is going to do but there were there were some flashes too where you saw his ability
07:54and you saw what he was you know capable of so it leaves me optimistic about this season for him
08:00you know a full off season to grant a new offense but one that probably again fits even his skill
08:06set
08:06better if you go back to his days you know before colorado to constantly playing in shotgun
08:10constantly playing on offenses that aren't going to be based so much out off of the outside zone
08:14running scheme and a lot of the boots and things that savanski would like to do and like to do
08:18with
08:18his quarterbacks under center um it just it changes the dynamic a bit so i think this is a much
08:22better
08:23fit for him i'm really again curious to see what he does in year two all right brady let's get
08:27to
08:27those 10 to 12 uh you know college football quarterbacks could end up uh you know putting themselves in
08:33the first round conversation this next year of those guys what quarterbacks are you most excited
08:38to kind of see where they are at this point in their careers in 2026 so there's some names that
08:45are more off the map um there's a guy like drew mestemaker i don't know if you've followed his
08:49career at all from north texas this is a wild story brady that's a wild story to me how do
08:53you go from
08:53never playing in high school didn't start on his high school team to now this yeah yeah and if you
08:59look at his mechanics it's actually like very compact very simple very just he makes it look
09:05easy and he's a big kid he's an incredible athlete and so he balled out last year in north texas
09:10eric
09:11morris is head coach goes to oklahoma state he follows him there and they'll be able to put up
09:15numbers again within that offense but he's one of the most intriguing prospects that probably no one
09:20really knows and he could be one of those guys that everyone falls in love with because of his upside
09:24and he's going to draw comparisons to ryan tannahill but quite frankly i think he's actually got a
09:29more higher upside just from a pure passer you know when you watch his cape and watch what he does
09:34he's an interesting one you know nico iamaliava was one of the highest recruited quarterbacks coming
09:39out of his class in high school you know a lot was made of the deal that he turned down
09:42at tennessee
09:43and ultimately ended up at ucla but if you see this young man throw the football i mean he's an
09:47incredible athlete he's got a laser for an arm and he's one of those guys that's going to fly
09:52under the radar and he might not make his way on the first round pick but it's going to be
09:55really
09:55fascinating to see if he can end up being a guy that's viewed as a first round pick when it's
10:00all
10:00said and done purely based off town alone but like a lot of the favorites going to be arch manning
10:04obviously don't say more you know cj carter another name i think if he has a big year he's another
10:09guy
10:10that could very well be the first quarterback overall taken trinidad chamos out of old miss he's
10:14another one that with what they did in the playoff last year really burst on the scene he's got the
10:18ability to extend plays and run with his feet and make the big time throws it's just now a different
10:24offense one with p golding taking over full time so can he continue to carry that sam levin moves
10:29to lsu in lane kiffin system he it's gonna be fascinating to see what he's capable of doing
10:33he's another guy that i kind of look at and watch and go i felt like he was one of
10:37those guys who
10:37was like a one and done you know kind of first read's not there i'm gonna take off and run
10:40he's gonna be asked to do more at lsu i think he's capable of it but with the uh sec
10:45defense is
10:45going to face how does he handle that but he's another guy thrown into that conversation
10:49jordan mayava the quarterback out of fc he's another guy who's put on some great tape good
10:54athlete can make all the throws you know doesn't lie with many other things but a lot of things that
10:59you do watch and kind of like and then you know you got darian mensa at miami i could go
11:03on and on
11:03guys like i'm telling you this class is one of the most intriguing that i've ever followed because
11:08there's so many that will have the opportunity to go and i do wonder you know if some guys will
11:13maybe stay back because they're going to be all be jockeying for i don't know how many spots
11:17you know are there going to be five or six taken next year's draft that'd be a lot but that's
11:22also
11:22the kind of inventory that they're going to have in the draft class and i haven't mentioned julian
11:26saying i haven't mentioned don't say more i mean that's just two more guys you had to list so it's
11:30an incredible uh that has incredible potential to be a big time draft class it just comes down to you
11:37know how these guys play and you know how quarterback needs some of these teams get yeah in ohio obviously
11:41we keep track of julian saying uh do you think he's another one of these ohio state quarterbacks that is
11:45just a product of the system or do you think he is the system uh it's hard to put it
11:51that way i
11:52guess i'd go about it this way i think he gets the tag of being a game manager right there's
11:56a
11:56quarterback to get that label sometimes and i always kind of respond by just saying well he's a hell of
12:01a game manager then right he's accurate with the football he's timely with the football he makes good
12:06decisions yeah i think the one thing he's got to work on that we saw exploited a bit in particular
12:10versus my when he was getting hit and he was getting pressure got a little bit erratic i got
12:16a little bit rattled and those are things that every quarterback it's going to happen to right
12:20they always talk about moving a quarterback off the spot but but maybe more so with him than what
12:23we saw uh before that so maybe that's one of those things that he's being more conscious of
12:28versus pressure versus the blitz how he ends up ends up handling it but you can't fault the kid
12:32because he's throwing a jeremiah smith right like that's just you know part of the part of the uh job
12:37when
12:37you go to ohio state you're probably going to have a guy who's going to be a top 10 pick
12:40a wide
12:40receiver all right brady uh notre dame uh two years ago they lose in the national championship game
12:47uh marcus freeman has another really nice team here you mentioned cj carr is this the year that
12:53under marcus freeman they punch through and win the national championship i mean it sure looks like
12:58it's going to shape up to be that i mean if you look at their defense they have so much
13:01experience
13:02coming back they added some uh some needed physicality depth uh and size up front on their
13:09defensive line uh above a court or a comes back at the defensive end spot i think he really can
13:15be
13:15one of those guys we talk about as being a potential first round pick leonard moore is the best
13:19cornerback in the country um so i don't think he's going to see much action they brought into the portal
13:23you know mckinney who was at colorado was a very highly touted recruit ends up transferring to
13:29notre dame so i'm just not really sure we're going to throw the football with with the secondary and
13:33the amount of experience they've got they've got about six deep at linebacker uh kva is a name
13:38you're going to hear a lot um kingston viliama viliama osu i mean he's he's incredible i mean he
13:43can play off the edge he can play off the ball he's everywhere so their defense should be once again
13:48lights out it really comes down offensively the identity of this team last year i think everyone
13:53looked at him and said you had jeremiah love jadarian price that's your two-headed monster in the
13:57backfield and jeremiah love might be the most special talent notre dame's had probably since
14:02rocket ismail he's that big of a game changer they don't have that anymore and not to say that the
14:07running back group isn't going to be good but this is an offense that's going to be led by cj
14:11car
14:11you saw that with a couple of the ohio state wide receivers you transferred there some of the guys
14:15like jordan fazon they already have it might be a pass first offense it might be an offense where
14:20you see a lot more downfield a lot more quick game getting the ball out of his hands to open
14:24up the
14:24run game as the offensive line starts to solidify itself and as they start to kind of figure out
14:29who are the future backs in this offense but the schedule sets up well it just comes down to if
14:33they can avoid those early slip-ups like we've seen in marcus freeman's tenure that's the biggest
14:38concern for notre dame brady great stuff man really do appreciate your time and uh hey football's back
14:44so i'm sure we'll be bugging in in the not too distant future to come back on please do guys
14:49can't
14:49wait for it it can't come soon enough
