00:00Hello, very good morning to you. It is a bit of a chilly start out there. There was even a
00:04touch of frost overnight, but gardeners will be glad to hear that this could be the last frosty start that
00:11we're going to have for a little while.
00:13Currently, there is a bit of a ridge over us, which is why things are quite settled, and we still
00:18have low pressure to the east of us, and it's this that's dragging in some cooler air, which is why
00:23it's also quite chilly.
00:25But it's worth bearing in mind there's a frontal system to the west that's going to bring some rain later
00:30on.
00:30It's already pushing its way across parts of Northern Ireland, and we are seeing some outbreaks of rain quite cloudy
00:35across parts of Wales and southwest England.
00:37Further east, however, yes, it's a chilly start to the day, but quite a bright one. A bit of mist
00:41and fog in the southeast. That will clear this morning, and then eventually we see cloud coming in from the
00:46west, becoming more widespread.
00:48So things turning a bit grey in places, glimmers of sunshine lingering across parts of northeast Scotland, perhaps northeast England
00:55as well.
00:56But yes, for most of us, turning cloudier, and in the west, turning wetter as a front makes its way
01:00in.
01:00Worth bearing in mind, across the Northern Isles, Orkney and Shetland, we will see some showers, and these are going
01:05to continue through much of the day.
01:07Temperatures in the east are likely to be up a degree or so over some recent days, 16, 17 Celsius
01:13perhaps in the warmest spots, so feeling a little bit warmer because the winds for many will be relatively light.
01:19Further west, because of the cloud and the rains coming through at the time that we'd expect the highest temperatures,
01:26well, they're going to be a little bit suppressed, so low to possibly mid-teens really.
01:30So still that fresh feel that we've had through much of this week, just a different feel because it's cloudy
01:36and it's damp, really.
01:37That rain rattles its way through eastwards overnight through into Sunday morning, with drier, clearer weather following in behind.
01:45Not totally dry, however. There will be showers across parts of Northern Ireland.
01:49Some of these could be heavy, could have some thunder and hail mixed in with them.
01:53A few showers for parts of western England and Wales and western Scotland as well.
01:57Northern parts of Scotland actually staying under that front, so staying quite wet here, and that rain may take a
02:03while to clear away from the far southeast as well.
02:05Yes, there will be some clearer skies following in behind the front, but a slight change in the direction where
02:11our air is coming from means temperatures tonight aren't going to drop as low as they did last night.
02:17So I'm not really expecting a frost, most places holding up several degrees above freezing.
02:22So a slightly less chilly, less fresh start to the day, a fair bit milder, to be honest.
02:27And then through Sunday, yes, there will be quite a bit of cloud outbreaks of rain across parts of Scotland,
02:32but in the southeast, that's going to clear away quite quickly.
02:35Then we have plenty of showery bursts of rain and perhaps even a bit of hail and thunder mixed in
02:40coming from the west.
02:41They're going to turn increasingly widespread through the day, and some of them could be quite heavy.
02:46And like I say, the odd rumble of thunder, not out of the question.
02:49Some blustery winds towards western parts as well.
02:51Further east, a greater chance of staying dry with some brightness.
02:55Temperatures similar-ish to what we're expecting through today.
02:58But looking further ahead, and through the next few days, into the beginning of next week, there is more changeable
03:04weather to come.
03:05But a big thing I want to draw your attention to is the change in direction where our air is
03:10coming from.
03:10It's now coming from the southwest, a real difference to that northerly flow that we have had for such a
03:16while.
03:17As a result, yes, there will be rain to come through Monday, Tuesday, perhaps even in towards the middle of
03:22the week.
03:23But things are going to be turning warmer.
03:25We're going to see our temperatures rising through this week, and there's a reasonable chance that we'll see high pressure
03:30building in time for the bank holiday weekend as well.
03:32Not a guarantee, so we're staying up to date with the forecast as we get nearer the time.
03:36Bye-bye.
