00:00I remember getting my first wig when I was like eight years old. I was with my
00:03mom and my dad. It was like the worst experience ever. I felt like I was
00:06leaving with like a helmet on my head. My little inner me is so excited because
00:11it's kind of like my first wig consultation. I'm hoping for a better
00:14experience than I first had getting my wig when I was eight years old.
00:22Hi guys I'm Chloe Bean and I'm going to be trying on wigs and picking one in a
00:26style I've never tried before. I was eight years old when I got diagnosed with
00:32alopecia. Growing up I'd wear hats, I had bald spots around the scalp and then it
00:37wasn't until high school. My sophomore year of high school where I went
00:40completely bald it transitioned from alopecia areata to alopecia universalis.
00:45Back then I had one wig and it looked exactly like my hair before it fell out.
00:50It wasn't until college where I started experimenting and just trying a bunch of
00:55different wigs. Growing up I had brown hair so I experiment with blonde a little
01:00and it's super fun to me but I kind of want to go back to like my dark roots.
01:05Also short wigs, bobs, layers, I don't have any of that because I just don't get
01:09them customized. I'm going out of my comfort zone. I love long wigs but I want
01:14a short one or one that's really layered. I'm hoping for this wig to fit
01:18perfectly and the fact that everything is in salon. Like I get to be at a chair
01:24like the last time I was at a hair salon was when I was going bald and I
01:28remember I was so scared because I had my bald spots so I get to have a wig on now.
01:35I'm Tali, the owner of TNT by Tali wig shop and salon. I am a wife, a mother, a wig
01:42expert and stylist here in LA. We strive to provide a warm welcoming and private
01:48experience for our clients. Our salon is designed with privacy in mind so that our
01:52clients can feel comfortable during their appointments. A medical wig is
01:56specifically designed for individuals that are going through hair loss for
02:00medical reasons. In many cases wigs can be covered by insurance if they are deemed
02:05medically necessary. Most insurance companies refer to them as cranial
02:09prosthetics. Today I'll be meeting with Chloe Bean. We're going to be trying on a
02:13bunch of pieces and we are going to customize the piece and make sure that it
02:18fits her perfectly and that she really feels herself and it's a piece that she can
02:22wear from day to day. So tell me a little bit about what you're looking for.
02:26I think I want to step outside my comfort zone, go for something short or layered
02:30and I'm thinking dark hair. Okay so this one is a 2-6 which means that it's my
02:36hair color which is a color 2 and it has the 6 in there which is the highlight
02:40color. I feel like my mom would like this one. Right? It's so cute. This one is our
02:45custom blonde. Oh my god. I like that the rooting is darker because it could look
02:51like I'm actually, I don't know, this could look like my hair. Let's put it in the maybe.
02:55Okay. Stunning first of all. Hold on. Stunning. Oh! It looks really good. This is a yes.
03:05Also the back, it just fits really nice. How do you feel inside? I don't mind it but you're the
03:11expert so if you think we should pinch it in a little more then... I think we have room
03:15to take in and this way your ears will sit better also if we just take in a little bit
03:22on both sides once we take the nape out. Usually with my clients going through hair
03:26loss they like to have the nape removed. We do usually have to take the cap in as
03:32well. This is Claudette. She does all the alterations in here and you're in the
03:37best hands. Oftentimes wigs are made with extra room for someone to tuck their hair
03:43in so when it comes to someone with alopecia or going through any kind of hair
03:47loss it's important that the wig fits properly and is really flushed to their
03:52skin. Feel? If someone touched my head it like I wouldn't be insecure because it
03:57feels like my hair. Exactly. I think you're ready for a cut. This is Lauren. She's
04:03going to be walking you through the cut and cutting the wig for you. Feel like I'm
04:09at a salon. You are? I am, yeah. I'm not really cutting the length. There's just some
04:15like straggly pieces basically that don't give such a clean line so I'm just
04:19going to literally just like dust those off to give you more like even perimeter
04:22and then we'll go through with the layers. I definitely want bangs a little bit
04:27with some face framing layers in the front so that way I can like have fun with
04:31it when I put it back and then definitely the little ear hair you guys
04:35are talking about. We kind of cut you some like ear hair so you have like some
04:38frizzies. I'm gonna be curling Chloe's wig. You'll get a really nice visual of the
04:43highlights in there and they'll really bring out the cut. Also over time as the
04:49style starts to fall out it'll still have that flow and that bounce. We put some
04:54makeup in her part to make the scalp look more lifelike and real. What do you
05:00think? Oh my gosh. Isn't it insane? This looks like I grew it. This looks like my own
05:05hair. And it's like we see a head shape. Yeah. Air bubbles. The length is perfect. So I didn't even
05:13think about when you curl it. It gets shorter. A little bit. This is the length I
05:17envision. I feel very chic. This is something that I don't have or wear
05:23usually so the fact that I'm going outside of my comfort zone I feel
05:26amazing. Hello. Hey. Hi. That's cute actually. That's great. I like it. I like it. Thank you.
05:36Better than your first wig that you got when you were young. I got to finally have a good
05:41experience. Oh it's beautiful. All right. I love you guys. Love you. All right. Bye.
05:46If I had this experience when I was eight years old I would have left the happiest girl ever.
