00:00Hi, I'm Rissa, and today I'm going to be getting my hair done by Rihanna's stylist, Youssef.
00:04Before we get into the transformation, please subscribe below.
00:08I love my hair. I really do.
00:10But my hair is super curly and super dry.
00:13I think I had a stylist say to me,
00:14oh, like, your hair has, like, beautiful curls,
00:17but then it dries into a bush.
00:20And I was like, that's true. That's true.
00:22I mean, if I could have my hair, like, flash frozen when I get out of the shower,
00:25I'd be, like, all the time. Like, look at me.
00:28I think that I could really rock a wash and go if my hair kind of stayed wet.
00:34Sounds weird, but girls, you know what I'm talking about.
00:36I'm really excited for Youssef to bless my head.
00:38I want him to oil my scalp, and I want him to just, like, revitalize my look.
00:42No, I'm not nervous at all. I cannot wait.
00:44Youssef, I trust you completely.
00:46Honestly, I want to be Rihanna, but that won't happen overnight.
00:49But if I can have, like, her hair?
00:51Plus, we both have big foreheads, so I know that I'm going to be safe.
00:54He's talented. I'm cute. Like, it's going to work.
00:56Hello, my name is Youssef, celebrity hairstylist here in New York City.
01:00I just think we should do something a little sexy, something away from the face.
01:04So am I going to look around at the end of this video?
01:06Yeah, I think so.
01:07Okay.
01:07So it's very important when you're doing wigs that your foundation is very tamed.
01:13I always like to braid my foundation down as small as possible just so the wig can be flat and
01:19secured.
01:21I've been doing hair since I was 13 years old.
01:24I was in the music industry, and hair was something that I always did, you know, on my downtime as
01:30a hobby.
01:31I was doing a lot of fashion. I didn't realize it was happening, but before I knew it, I was
01:35doing actors and musicians every day.
01:39I've never had a wig before because my mom doesn't wear wigs.
01:43I grew up in a majority, like, white community, and, like, wigs weren't the norm there.
01:46I just feel like wearing a wig is an easy way to change up my look without having to cut
01:52my hair, grow out my hair, worry about the health of my hair on daily.
01:55I started working with Rihanna in 2009.
01:59It's a long time ago, wow.
02:00My first time working with her was Paris Fashion Week.
02:03I was supposed to be with her for, like, two days, and I wind up staying for the whole week.
02:07She just kind of let me go, which was an amazing process because it allowed me to just do things
02:13that I saw her having, like, long before I even worked with her.
02:17And it just turned out to be, like, magic.
02:19I don't have baby hair.
02:22Is there a way to, like, get that look or should I actually give up?
02:24Well, most baby hairs are just broken hair.
02:27Okay.
02:27Let's be real.
02:30Have you ever thought that it looks like, um, bacon?
02:34Is that a thing?
02:35I never, ever, ever thought about that, but you are so right.
02:39Alright, so I'm using a little of the gel just to give this a more of a flatter surface.
02:46And when it dries, it also helps the wig stick to her head.
02:51How far in advance do you plan out looks?
02:52Like, the night before or sometimes on set.
02:55We don't like to feel trapped in, like, a look.
02:57We just go with the flow.
03:00What do you think is going to make the newest hair trend coming up?
03:03Um, other than wigs?
03:05Nowadays, like, people want to feel a little bit more, like, tamed.
03:08I feel like that's really something that I'm seeing a lot.
03:11Not the, like, kind of, like, messy hair and things like that.
03:13I feel like women are now, like, doing their hair, making sure their hair is in place.
03:17I think it's, like, part of the whole, like, self-care movement.
03:19Please, the world is so crazy right now.
03:22The last thing you want to do is get, like, lost and, you know, be a part of the screaming
03:26nonsense.
03:27I mean, hair plays a big part of that.
03:28Beauty plays a big part of that.
03:34So I'm using the stocking cap, and I'm going to use this as the base for the lace front.
03:40Will this make my forehead look smaller?
03:43That's a question.
03:44I mean, that's if you want to bring your wig down here, but I don't recommend that.
03:48I always say follow your hairline.
03:50If you're going to not follow your hairline, just go a tiny bit above it just to protect your hair.
03:55So now I'm going to cut the perimeter of the stocking cap.
04:02I know Rissa talked about making her forehead smaller, but I love a good forehead.
04:08So I'm just bringing it down a little bit above her natural hairline.
04:13There's a wig behind you.
04:16I think that Yousef is, like, very inventive with his hairstyles.
04:18I loved Rana's hair on Ocean's 8.
04:21I thought the really thick locks were really cool and amazing and kind of, like, paid homage
04:25to Caribbean culture.
04:27I think he really works with his clients to find styles that work with their face and
04:31their features.
04:32So it's not trying to match a style to a person, but to create a style around the person,
04:36which I think is very cool.
04:38I always love this hair.
04:39It's something that you can do formal.
04:41You can dress it up.
04:43I'm just going to go in and do, like, some messy layers.
04:46Nothing too contrived.
04:54What I'm going to do is just take these extra long pieces of hair and use a razor and just
05:00kind of, like, sporadically cut them.
05:02And that's how we'll create our gorgeous little baby hair drama.
05:09All right, Rissa.
05:10Do you want to see what we came up with?
05:18I look so sexy.
05:19Is that just me?
05:20No.
05:21This is the idea.
05:23You are cute.
05:24I mean, you are cute.
05:25You're cute.
05:26You look good, girl.
05:27You look good.
05:28Also, first time I like having baby hair, you guys.
05:31Babies.
05:32No bacon.
05:33The wet look.
05:34Who would have thought?
05:35Wet and go.
05:36Wet and go.
05:40So this is our finished look.
05:42Hope you guys like it.
05:43Do you like it?
05:43I love it.
