00:19As someone who's natural and has had so many hair changes,
00:22it's so important for me to retain the length that I had.
00:26I had dreadlocks for 11 years of my life,
00:28so that was like limited experimentation.
00:32I can only do it so much.
00:34And then when I was a junior in high school,
00:35I completely shaved my head.
00:37It was just like me taking control over how I was expressing myself with my hair.
00:43After shaving my head, I went through like all of the weird transformations
00:46of like having relaxed hair, wearing weaves, wearing protective styles.
00:50And what worked best for me was protective styles.
00:53It helped me retain my length, not destroy my curl pattern,
00:57and not have to deal with all the single strand knots and tangling
01:00that most natural girls have to deal with.
01:02But once I'm lime green, it's a whole new bag.
01:05I've never had real color, and she's going to get real color.
01:09So besides the fact that I'm just happy to be going lime green,
01:13I'm super excited that Ebanks is going to be doing it for me.
01:17Ebanks has done the hair of some of my favorite artists, Cardi B, Asian Doll.
01:21Like, I mean, why would I want the same hands in my head?
01:24I'm thrilled to be getting this done.
01:29What made you want to do a bright color?
01:31I've never really committed and like had fun color-wise.
01:36I was ready.
01:37Oh my gosh.
01:39I am so excited for her.
01:51I did what most girls who don't understand their hair do.
01:55I put a perm in it.
01:57Perms don't work for everybody.
01:58I ended up having over-processed hair, and my hair started to fall out.
02:04So coming out of that and being able to actually grow my hair back,
02:08grow my edges back, make sure my curl pattern was still there,
02:11I'm just not going to let my hair be touched by anybody.
02:16So when I'm picking a hairstylist, like, it's serious business.
02:20Any black woman would know that.
02:21Any woman knows that.
02:23Hair is deep.
03:00Any time I get a new hairstyle, I am a little nervous.
03:03The lime green has to look green.
03:05It can't even skew yellow.
03:07I don't want yellow on my head.
03:09I'm also a little worried about what my mom is going to think.
03:12She's worried about what people may think about me when they don't truly know me.
03:16They just see this girl with lime green hair.
03:18But to that, I would just be like, Mom, you know, it's trendy.
03:22She's living her best life.
03:24You only go around once.
03:39There used to be a lot of stigma around wigs and wearing wigs.
03:42Even the word wig, like, people wouldn't use it.
03:45They would say unit or lace front.
03:48Now, wigs are so trendy because all of the celebrities are now wearing wigs.
03:53Every upcoming artist pretty much has a wig on her head.
03:56And it's because what's underneath is more important.
03:58There's so many options now.
04:01And hair care and hair is a lot bigger.
04:03The industry is a lot bigger than it was.
04:05It's a lot more tangible.
04:06It's a lot more affordable.
04:08So now wigs are, like, an everyday thing.
04:18I'm about to bless her with some baby hairs on this unit right now.

04:23Who doesn't love baby hairs?
04:24All right.
04:32As a black woman, I change my hair a lot.
04:34And that has to do with, like, expressing myself.
04:36But it also has to do a lot with versatility.
04:39When you change your hair, it's just a way to boost your self-confidence.
04:43I'm so, so, so, so excited.
04:46It's going to be the boldest hairstyle that I've had in a long time.
