A total of 27 foreign workers from four countries have been arrested in an operation targeting food premises in Johor Baru.

Johor immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operation, involving five premises, was conducted on Friday (May 8) following public tip-offs and intelligence gathered regarding illegal foreign workers.

00:24He said the raid was conducted after authorities discovered that some local employers were
00:29still hiring and harbouring foreign nationals without valid travel documents and work permits.
00:35Checks during the operation led to the arrest of 27 foreign workers for various immigration
00:41offences.
00:42The detainees comprised 24 Myanmar nationals, one Bangladeshi, one Pakistani and one Nepalese,
00:49aged between 19 and 46.
00:52They are believed to have been working as restaurant waiters and cooks and are being investigated
00:57under the Immigration Act 1959-63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
01:05All detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropica immigration depot for further investigation
01:11and action.
