00:01The Johor Immigration Department detained 81 foreign men during raids on several business
00:06premises in Pandan, Johor Bahru on Saturday.
00:09State Immigration Department Director Datuk Mohamad Rusti Mohamad Daruss said the operation,
00:14which began at about 10am, was carried out with the cooperation of the Malaysian Border
00:19Control and Protection Agency.
00:20He said the raids were conducted following public tip-offs and intelligence on premises
00:25suspected of employing or harbouring illegal immigrants.
00:27Checks found that some of the foreigners were selling groceries or working at food outlets
00:32without proper authorisation, while others were fully operating the premises.
00:37The detainees, aged 17 to 52, comprised 46 Bangladeshis, 22 Myanmar nationals, 10 Pakistanis, one Indian
00:46and one Nepalese.
00:48All were taken to the Sirthia-Tropika Immigration Detention Depot for investigation under the
00:53Immigration Act 1959-63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.
