The Immigration Department has detained 45 foreigners believed to be working illegally while living in shoplot units in Johor Baru.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operations were carried out around Taman Mount Austin on Saturday (Nov 8), starting at 12.30am.

00:01The Johor Immigration Department detained 45 foreigners
00:05suspected of working illegally in shoplots around Taman Mount Austin in Johor Bahru on Saturday.
00:11Its director, Datuk Mohamed Rusdi Mohamed Darus, said the operation,
00:16which began at 12.30 a.m., followed intelligence and public complaints
00:21about undocumented migrants in the area.
00:24The late-night raid took place while the foreigners were resting in shoplots
00:28converted into living spaces.
00:30The detainees, aged from 9 months to 46 years, were arrested for various immigration offences,
00:37including invalid travel documents and overstaying.
00:40They include 19 Myanmar men, 9 Pakistani men, 7 Indian men, 3 Indonesian men,
00:47a Myanmar boy, 5 Myanmar women, and an Indonesian woman.
00:52Some of them tried to escape or hid in bathrooms and ceilings,
00:55but officers managed to arrest them.
00:58All detainees are being held at the Setia Tropica Immigration Depot for further investigation.
