Eyewitness video shows derailed Spanish train carriages, passengers inside

Eyewitness video from a train derailment site in southern Spain on Sunday (January 18) showed damaged train carriages, with at least one leaning slightly at an angle. The video also showed passengers inside a carriage and an official speaking to them. The eyewitness said that despite the jolt from the incident and the initial shock, the passengers in carriage five, where this eyewitness was, were all safe and had no idea what had happened. The eyewitness added that passengers in a carriage ahead were the most affected. A high-speed train derailed and smashed into another oncoming train in southern Spain on Sunday, pushing the second train off the tracks and down an embankment in a collision that police sources confirmed to Reuters had killed at least 21 people. The cause for the crash is not yet known, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente told reporters at a news conference at Atocha station in Madrid.
