02:15he was laying right there we have the guy identified the victim 29 year old Andre Jones
02:26worked as a logistics specialist for a freight company he had been staying at the hotel where
02:32he was killed but was in the process of moving out to live with his mother
02:37Andre had eight siblings and was the proud father of three young boys
02:46through and through Andre was shot twice in the chest there's a couple of cell casings right here
02:55the casings are both nine millimeter
03:01camera's filming down this way we can upload the video yeah I got a good witness to talk to
03:09as far as the other witnesses good luck because there's about 30 of them out here and nobody saw
03:15anything so I think he's the most important one right now I gotta do that now what's up I'm
03:24detecting early can we go talk over there I just want to hear what happened from your standpoint
03:37he knows the victim Andre as Tez so I came down he wanted me to go to the store for
03:44me I said yeah I'm going to the store for me
03:47I'm going to start walking towards this direction I was walking I looked up I see two guys
03:54they're living on and they jumped off from the car right there when I had a
03:59so there's some guns and I can't remember the other one was going off the car
04:04they had a mask they both had masks on for sure that's all he knew because when he
04:09seemed to jump down he dashed the roads on me they basically just like did like this and walked past
04:16was he mad at them or anything or did he just say hey you know like you like what's up

04:21so me and him walking behind them take something with that day and by the time we got he turned

04:28come back so when they cast us I took on one because I'm thinking too behind me yeah so then
04:35I took around
04:36he's going back this way again so I said hey Tez what's up he's like he jumped around
04:42kind of speedy up towards me then the dog said just go to the officer get me a soda I

04:48got the dog from him see me all turn around ah ah shot I didn't see this lady took off

05:28hey hey lead detective Julie Price arrives on scene someone came up to York about somebody to look
05:37into I was like would you at least talk to one of my people now and she's like no I

05:43I'm all while sergeant Dallas York was canvassing the hotel a guest said the man staying in room 243
05:50may be involved got checked out but according to the manager the man in that room checked out this
06:00morning the manager gave York the names of all the hotel guests for that day thank you this hotel shares
06:19their cameras with when at police department so I go back to headquarters and just review a bunch of video
06:25yeah
06:41so the car comes and stops on 85 so here's the hotel stops right here
06:49the team pulls up the security video from around the time of the murder they get off
06:55the exit ramp 85 right there behind horizon that sits up here with its hazard lights on
07:02six minutes before the shooting the suspects car stops on the side of the highway
07:09they both come down the embankment
07:15there's no cameras back there the one on the back side's down
07:22so there in the back
07:26orange hoodie
07:28and then the dark hoodie with bandana print sleeves
07:32that's the victim in the white hoodie
07:37so they they pass the victim like they're thinking about it
07:47and then they turn around and go back
07:58the guy in the bandana print hoodie pulls his gun fires two shots
08:04they take off
08:07it looks like he was targeted
08:11they come running back up
08:15you see him go back across the back of the car with his orange hoodie
08:21so we got some good clothing to look for if we can figure out where to go
08:25yeah
08:28so they have a camera that points basically at the roadway
08:32and that's him pulling through
08:35so that's the car right there that's the car
08:38it's going to be a dark car
08:40definitely dark
08:42it's definitely a sedan
08:45and there's nothing there's no cameras up there that we can
08:49see which way that car goes
08:50that's right now
08:54some girl gave a room number and said you need to look at this guy
08:58Jahari
09:00the man in room 243 whom the tipster said may be involved
09:04is 28 year old Jahari Foster
09:08there's no vehicles that look good that are associated
09:12and he also just checked out that morning
09:14but Jahari doesn't drive a dark colored sedan
09:17and he checked out of the hotel 12 hours before the shooting

09:25right now I don't have any suspects
09:29I'm hoping that somebody will call and just give me some little kind of detail
09:34in order for me to run with to figure out who these guys are

09:59they killed my friend last week

11:36mistakenly thought Andre had stolen it

12:21she also provided the same room number
12:23as the other tipster
12:25that Jahari Foster was staying in
12:28but we need more than just rumors
12:29to put him at the scene

12:41so yesterday when we came in
12:43we started looking back
12:45through some of the video
12:47from the other camera views
12:48after combing through more of the hotel's
12:51surveillance video
12:52the crime prevention unit has a lead
12:55Ricketts pulled footage from earlier in the day
12:57and actually located the guy in the orange hoodie
13:00so once we found him
13:02we explored a lot more of the video
13:04and we actually identified them
13:07parking at the rooms to go
13:09walking over to the horizon
13:11earlier in the day
13:12kind of scoping things out
13:14five hours before the homicide
13:16three men appear to be casing the hotel
13:20the subject with the orange hoodie
13:22actually obtains it from a female
13:23on the second floor
13:25as he's walking in
13:26you see the female with the orange hoodie
13:28just walking down the hall
13:30he literally just walks up the stairs
13:32she's already walking down the hallway with it
13:34it's just a pass off
13:36and she walks one direction
13:37he walks the other
13:45do you all recognize that female at all
13:47no
13:48I was trying to get a better picture of her face
13:54when this went earlier
13:55we actually get a decent shot of his face
14:00he walks this way
14:02and then they kind of stop
14:04then they were talking to each other
14:06it looks like Jahari
14:07Price believes the suspect
14:09with the orange hoodie
14:10is the man who rented room 243

14:15the two other subjects that he was with
14:17come around the back side of the building
14:21they've already got their hoodies up
14:23the second guy actually like
14:25pulls his drawstring tight
14:26to conceal his face
14:34they go up
14:35they're up there a very short time
14:37they kind of walk around
14:38and then they come back down
14:42so this is the subject in the gray hoodie
14:45he's going to be the actual shooter
14:47because he's wearing the same
14:48handkerchief looking hoodie
14:49during the homicide
14:57he meets up with the other two
15:02once they are leaving
15:05they walk right back to the car
15:07that they came from
15:09and then a few seconds later
15:11you'll see the black passenger car
15:14and the rooms to go parking lot
15:15come around the left side of the building
15:19we ended up identifying the vehicle
15:21as a Ford 500 passenger car
15:27this is the Ford 500
15:29leaving rooms to go
15:34once we had this video
15:35we pulled the flock kits
15:37and Moon was able to identify the tag
15:40the car is registered
15:42to 35 year old Tyrus Lane
15:44from DeKalb County
15:46you've got a very long
15:47and interesting room on this one
15:50Tyrus has several prior convictions
15:52including armed robbery
15:53and aggravated assault
15:56the way it looks
15:57in one of the views
15:59from the night of the NSA
16:00it almost looks like
16:01there's brake lights on
16:02before they get up to the car
16:03it almost looks like
16:05there was somebody
16:05still in the car
16:07officers believe Tyrus
16:09could be the getaway driver
16:12the car seems like
16:13it doesn't come up here very often

32:26so the female minor that we were looking for got picked up
32:30the teenage runaway seen on video handing johari the orange hoodie was tracked down and interviewed by the special victims
32:38unit
32:38they did a forensic interview with her
32:40she ends up talking about the shooting in detail
32:44at first she says that um johari believed that it was his ex-girlfriend that stole his gun
32:51he heard later then that it was a male and then she was supposed to run around and try to
32:57figure out who the male was but he he supposedly figured it out first
33:02she knew johari was looking to fight but after the shooting she then realized it wasn't to fight it was
33:08to actually shoot him
33:09um because she she flat out asked said what's the plan and he eventually confessed and said it was planned
33:16and then she talks about how afterwards at the hotel
33:20she's with johari and bush and um bush starts talking about his body count and how he just killed somebody
33:27but the minor couldn't call police at all about anything because she was on the run herself
33:34being a runaway
33:36the young female will not be charged and has been released
33:41unfortunately she didn't mention anything about a driver in her interview
33:45so at this point we're still trying to figure out how to tie tyrus to the murder
33:50and we're still trying to locate his car
34:02a month later
34:04so we're headed down to clayton county
34:07tyrus has a meeting right now with his probation officer
34:11so we're headed down there to hopefully intercept him
34:14the team plans to confront tyrus after he meets with his probation officer
34:20i have plenty to take his car
34:21i just can't say that he's the one that was driving it
34:25but if we go down here and he says i'm the only person to ever drive my car
34:29nobody drives my car that kind of stuff that would be golden
34:32i would be comfortable pulling warrants on him too

38:21there was nothing remarkable in the car
38:27this here is tyrus lane's phone
38:32it seems like on the 17th through the 18th
38:36he deleted all his stuff
38:40but if you go into google
38:43the day of the homicide
38:4510 30 he's searching for studio 6
38:48which is where i believe dimitris and johari were picked up from
38:53about an hour before the 911 call
38:56tyrus searched for directions to the motel in shambly
38:59where dimitris was staying with his relative
39:03then at 11 40 he puts the studio 6 back into his maps
39:08seven minutes before the shooting
39:10while his car was parked on the exit ramp near the crime scene
39:13tyrus searched for directions back to the same motel
39:17then just like an hour or so after the homicide
39:20he's searching google help
39:22to delete his browser history
39:24in both his search browser and maps
39:28yeah so it's hard to say that he wasn't involved
39:33i have asked for indictment on this
39:35by the da's office
39:37price will wait for the district attorney to decide
39:40if there's enough evidence to charge tyrus lane
39:42with the murder of andre jones
39:45i feel good about it now
39:47i think it's a pretty solid case against those three
39:53obviously andre didn't deserve to die
39:56i think he was just an unfortunate target of bad rumors

41:05i know everybody here is still hurting i know we're all grieving and maybe this will finally
41:11give us that closure we need to continue our grieving process for me it's a little different
41:18i'm probably gonna grieve for quite some time it's a child it's my child that's a hard pill to swallow
41:25to know that his life was cut short and especially by gun violence
41:31so i'm hoping that many of you or all of you will help me take up that mantle
41:36in helping with reform for gun violence so that we can help with some change especially in our
41:43communities i'm trying not to have hate and vengeance i'm trying but i can't believe someone
41:50stole his life like that there are days when i just can't breathe and i literally break down
41:58someone told me that our children are not ours god gave them to us forever long and he's called him
42:04back home so if i look at it like that then i look at it like my son was here
42:10for a purpose
42:11i think his death and the way he died was what he wanted me to do pick up that mantle
42:17and make change
42:18help with reform so maybe that's my purpose now and he gave it to me
42:25it's senseless gun violence is senseless come on let's let's do better it's time because this is
42:31the way they're doing it to us
