00:03:57go run and get e.m.s
00:04:01yeah
00:04:14for homicide detectives their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead
00:04:21within the first 48 hours
00:04:42so about approximately an hour ago we had an armed robbery in which the victims were shot at following
00:04:49the robbery and then while working that armed robbery they observe a bullet hole to an unrelated trailer
00:04:56make contact and they discover the deceased in the back bedroom
00:05:01it happened here in front of 12. so here you can see is where we have the entry of the
00:05:11bullet
00:05:12and then on the other side of this wall is our decedent
00:05:17and his name is herberto martinez martinez
00:05:2437 year old eriberto martinez martinez came to the u.s 20 years ago from oaxaca mexico
00:05:30in search of better job opportunities he worked construction and was packed to move to a new job
00:05:36site in north carolina in the morning he leaves behind a large family including his brother and
00:05:42brother's family in north charleston and his parents and three other siblings back home in mexico
00:05:51the bullet struck him in his facial area while he was sleeping
00:05:56the shot killed eriberto instantly where you see the crowd of people is a general area in which the
00:06:02armed robbery victims were when the shooting took place they were at the back corner of their trailer
00:06:08when approximately four what they described as black males approached them demanded their items and as
00:06:14they were fleeing the suspect shot there were several shell casings out here that was collected by
00:06:21patrol the four casings were covered or all nine millimeter
00:06:28where the armed robbery happened a trailer has video cameras bravo is helping download the video
00:06:36we need to do interviews with the victims once the video is downloaded i'm gonna have him take my
00:06:41victims to city hall and bravo is gonna sit down with each one and we're gonna have one translation of
00:06:47what happened bush and malone are there and i let them know you're coming with three thank you bravo
00:06:55so
00:07:03stray bullets are always rough hoping they got a good description in clothing or there's something
00:07:08distinct on one of the individuals that committed the robbery that we can identify
00:07:12and hopefully with that we'll be able to develop a suspect
00:07:25so run me through what happened
00:07:33so we said they were hanging out drinking beer there were four that came somewhere from like
00:07:39behind the trailer
00:07:40okay so they're asking like where that where's the
00:07:43that which means marijuana can you describe like what they were wearing what they look like
00:07:58he says the man who pointed the gun at him wore a black mask and two others also wore masks
00:08:05two black black mask one had white and then one didn't have one at all
00:08:10he said the one that came up to him with the gun he was only able to see kind of
00:08:14like eyes and
00:08:15he had like the mask with the hoodie on
00:08:42he pulled the trigger and it did you hear it go
00:08:46and nothing and then he starts going through your pockets
00:08:49he says the suspect stole his keys phone and wallet and then moved on to his friend so the guy
00:09:11with
00:09:34he says he and his friends ran after the men but lost them behind some apartments
00:09:41so when they turned and left onto facet that's when you lost sight of them
00:09:46three three
00:09:48okay all right
00:09:50okay
00:09:52well i'm detective bush
00:10:03detectives speak with the two other robbery victims can you describe them
00:10:08okay
00:10:23any good descriptions
00:10:24questions on any of the suspects no
00:10:30this is going to be a really tough case
00:10:32hopefully we'll get some good video and it'd be great to get a car coming or going in the area
00:10:42all right
00:10:43all right watch this detective anthony russ pulls up the surveillance video gathered from the trailer park
00:10:48so you're going to see the suspects and the four of them now are linked up so then we cut
00:10:56to
00:10:59this video
00:11:02where they're now walking into the mobile home park
00:11:24and then they run beside this mobile home that actually has the cameras
00:11:35and they run beside this mobile home that actually has the cameras
00:11:37and this is the good one
00:11:40they're running and they're shooting back
00:12:01and they're running and they're running out of the car
00:12:12as great as the trooper is court cam new episodes watch now part of crime and investigation only on
00:12:19a and e i found something in my son's closet wrapping a plastic bag i think it's a human
00:12:27start fire i was right there and he stared at me he has a gunshot one to the neck
00:12:34gunshot one to the neck go go go go go extreme caution don't let him out of your sight
00:12:39if you're in here make yourself known where's he at crime in progress new episodes watch now
00:12:47part of crime and investigation only on a and e
00:13:01unfortunately for us the video surveillance is at night
00:13:04and they are wearing masks three of them so that makes it challenging
00:13:13but anything distinctive helps us you can see a camo jacket and some nikes and you can form
00:13:22a suspect from them it ends with this where they're running away in the same direction that
00:13:31they came from they fled through this area and then back out this way likely to this road
00:13:40we have some areas of interest we can look for video surveillance might help us id them a little
00:13:46better there's some apartments here that look good so we have some things to do but at least we have
00:13:54a
00:13:54starting point video is going to be the key in this case i think because we don't have any suspects
00:14:00at
00:14:00this time we will probably secure for the night here shortly i'm just like prepping this for the next
00:14:06shift and making sure like the list of cameras is there so when they do their brief they can divvy
00:14:13up and
00:14:13hit the ground running in the morning this is a completely innocent victim he was literally
00:14:19sleeping in his bed after a long day's work i mean it's horrible um and it also sucks because
00:14:25right now we don't have any answers but our goal is to bring justice to the victim and for his
00:14:31family
00:14:41let's wake it up it's friday let's wake it up 10 hours in all right everybody's here ready we are
00:14:49so ready we're ready the case is assigned to corporal rob van tyne a 20-year veteran with the north
00:14:55charleston police department all right so this happened last night um i know the patrol responded
00:15:00at 21 50 hours there was uh three victims that were robbed they said that four males robbed them
00:15:07and then they fire shots backwards as they're running off victim was sleeping in his trailer and
00:15:13got hit by gunfire they run towards this pond and that's where you lose them from the camera
00:15:19i imagine if you're going to take a car you got to go out facet road on up you gotta
00:15:22go left on
00:15:23stall or right on stall we need to see if there's any video that we can obtain they actually have
00:15:28good video on the second building in that farmer complex also sergeant bailey was saying um somebody
00:15:35ran they found a broken fence so it could have been him jumping the fence into the park complex
00:15:46i agree i think the main thing right now is just getting as much footage from the surrounding
00:15:49area as possible and see what we got whether it's vehicle leaving or they're staying on foot and
00:15:54running i can do that apartment company y'all said they have cameras there yeah get all the cameras
00:15:59there from the external we can we got you man time so i came in this morning and noticed the
00:16:06night
00:16:07shift um call team responded to this or it gets passed on to the next person rotation i like being
00:16:13on scene being the one who responds to it unfortunately this one i'm not so i have to review the
00:16:17notes that they did and then go from there i just wish we had more information to go off of
00:16:21right now
00:16:22there's nothing to connect the victims to the suspects and we don't have a car we don't have
00:16:26anything yet so it's really a whodunit so we'll see if the cameras and the footage we can develop some
00:16:39more leads back here in this corner is where they put a pallet over a fence and you can see
00:16:44footprints
00:16:45where they've been climbing over the fence
00:16:56there's no video the security cameras at the apartment complex aren't working
00:17:04but the team will canvas each apartment for doorbell cameras so gives them a lot of problems
00:17:13according to someone in the building there have been complaints about two young men on the second
00:17:18floor one of the males was sitting on this kia yesterday stolen out of city the ignitions popped
00:17:27you think they could be our bad guys dogs track back here making some possibility yeah
00:17:35i had a still shot of the uh suspects from the arson's camera for the shooting
00:17:39yeah he picked out two from the the four individuals detective david pritchard showed
00:17:45the video image to the tipster he said that he thinks the two in the middle are the two sons
00:17:50that
00:17:50live at this apartment maybe our guys we're gonna do a knock and talk reference to that stolen car
00:17:58let's see if it has anything to do with our homicide
00:18:17detectives bring out a woman and her two teenage sons
00:18:24came up here and knocked on the door they opened a door wreaked the marijuana so we pulled everybody
00:18:30for investigative detention now we're gonna get a search warrant type for the residents for anything
00:18:36related to the incident what are we doing
00:18:42hey listen to what they see and calm down i'm their mom maybe these kids were involved in the incident
00:18:59i wonder if there's a way we can downplay it and say some items were stolen let's get those items
00:19:06back maybe they'd be more forthcoming how you doing man could be better vantine starts with the older
00:19:14brother is that your apartment over there your sisters how long you've been there um
00:19:23we just basically go there so they came they smelled marijuana whatever is there anything else in
00:19:28there is there any because i know they're going to go in there and look is there any weapons or
00:19:31anything
00:19:31like that like is there like a gun or something what they're fine
00:19:37weed any other substances or anything i got you okay no basically um be honest with me did you take
00:19:44any items from some people in trouble that we can that we could somehow get back to them
00:19:57i found something in my son's closet wrapping a plastic bag i think it's a human head
00:20:07i was right there and he stared at me he has a gunshot wound to the neck gunshot wound to
00:20:11the neck
00:20:12go go go go go go extreme caution don't let him out of your sight
00:20:17if you're in here make yourself known where's he at crime in progress new episodes watch now part of
00:20:24crime and investigation only on a and e
00:20:36did someone else take some items that you were with
00:20:46because you know what happens is when we go through we pull the surveillance video
00:20:50mm-hmm everywhere right the trail park and all that there's cameras on facet there's cameras further
00:20:55down so i just don't want you caught in a lie with that okay so i'm asking you to honestly
00:21:02be honest
00:21:03if you were at that trailer park
00:21:09you're at home the whole time yeah and if it shows that you weren't in the house and you actually
00:21:16left
00:21:17it wasn't that yeah you can show me that okay
00:21:30hey how's it going man bantyne turns to the younger brother and i'm gonna be honest with you some items
00:21:36were taken from um some people on a trailer park further down the road did you go over to that
00:21:42trailer
00:21:43park so you stayed there the entire time as a man that's your word okay be right back
00:22:05so i can't say 100 that they're involved i just know that
00:22:09right now you have the path leading to their apartment you have a man that's saying from the
00:22:16still images that two of them look like kids that belong to that apartment and the fact that
00:22:22i feel just from interviewing that they're lying about last night kind of leads me to believe
00:22:27they're involved but we'll see search warrant's going to be completed maybe there's a weapon in
00:22:32there you never know cam is still talking to the um the mother maybe we'll get more information from
00:22:37um her
00:22:42so i'm gonna be honest with you so there was an incident that happened uh across the street at the
00:22:47um trailer parts on stall some hispanics were robbed and in the process there were um some
00:22:53individuals that shot at a trailer and um we arrived on cm found a male deceased who was sleeping
00:23:00in this trailer um those subjects then ran towards the apartments of where y'all are staying and one of
00:23:07your sons were in the kia just sitting there and there have been a number of kias stolen from the
00:23:14area do you know any reason why either one of your sons would be inside that kia they shouldn't be
00:23:21listen i work from sailing the morning to the day of night night just now i really see my kids
00:23:27sometimes
00:23:29i work and bring what i got a goal to accomplish i don't want this for them i want better
00:23:34now i can
00:23:36tell you i'm not gonna lie for my kids if i leave at home yesterday now if they just broke
00:23:42in that car
00:23:43then they got to deal with the consequences yeah there's no reason for them to have to do anything
00:23:50like this because i give them what do you want we're just following our leads and going upon our
00:23:56investigation have you ever seen either one of your sons carrying a firearm before i'm against
00:24:02kind i don't like them you know that's just i feel like what you need a gun for but at
00:24:09no point in
00:24:10time yesterday you recall your sons leaving no they didn't leave all right give me a second all right
00:24:16all right they're saying they're the home the entire time yeah that's what she's saying
00:24:24i feel like she would tell me otherwise i honestly do believe as much as she was telling
00:24:31them to calm down on scene like be respectful i feel like she would tell us yeah if they weren't
00:24:37in the house did you ask him anything about the car the kia one of them were in the kia
00:24:43i didn't ask
00:24:45him i'll ask the other one hey quick question two um there's a kia that's parked out there
00:24:53were you inside that vehicle at all what about your brother any of y'all inside that vehicle do you
00:24:59know who that block that vehicle belongs to no you know where it came from all right
00:25:13you don't know this card same answer from the other guy they don't know anything about the car
00:25:19and they're not in it those people put you in it i think they're lying about that whether they're
00:25:25involved in this murder i do not know um but we'll find out once we get the search warrant we
00:25:29get more information from pulling the video cameras at least we've locked them into statements
00:25:34that's the important thing we've locked them into statements so we can either
00:25:37validate those statements or we can disprove them at this point so we'll see what happens
00:25:45then hold on a second detective pritchard calls in from the apartment complex
00:25:49about what time
00:25:59the video shows three men leaving the complex 10 minutes before the call to 9-1-1
00:26:05just check your email or your uh text yeah i got it coming through thank you
00:26:10i got it coming through thank you
00:26:13that's their building that's their building
00:26:15mm-hmm
00:26:17oh
00:26:20it's absolutely
00:26:21yeah what's up
00:26:24yeah what's up
00:26:25yeah
00:26:42now
00:26:48oh
00:26:49Oh, silver darling, but I'm not going to let them catch me, no, I'm not going to let them catch
00:26:58the midnight dragon.
00:27:07I was going to be probably going 39 miles per hour on 35.
00:27:11You're just looking at the speed, man.
00:27:15Look at me.
00:27:16I'm going to make your bond so high, your head will spontaneously combust.
00:27:22You're not listening, so this is great.
00:27:24You're as great as the trooper is.
00:27:27Court Cam, new episodes, watch now on a crime and investigation, only on A&E.
00:27:41100% that's them.
00:27:43The shoes, the camo jacket.
00:27:50Where are they coming from?
00:27:52You can't see no one's face.
00:27:57Does it have them coming back?
00:27:59Do we have a video of them coming back at the show?
00:28:01I don't see more.
00:28:02Put this on the big screen of the computer just so we can kind of get a better look at
00:28:07them.
00:28:11Here they are coming down six to ten minutes before the murder.
00:28:15The doorbell video is from an apartment below the brothers.
00:28:19We don't have them coming out of the actual apartment.
00:28:22We have them coming down the stairs.
00:28:24And in the shoes, sir.
00:28:29Those are the green nightclubs.
00:28:35Let's print out the image of this.
00:28:39I'll go and talk to the mom.
00:28:40And then we'll try to get her to identify them.
00:28:44You ready?
00:28:46Hey.
00:28:47How's it going?
00:28:48I'm Detective Banton.
00:28:53Who's who?
00:29:13Detective Cam Miller shows her the surveillance video from the crime scene.
00:29:20Listen to me for a second.
00:29:21And I get it.
00:29:22You're their mom.
00:29:22You're supposed to protect them.
00:29:23Well, and I wouldn't lie for them either.
00:29:26Because right is right and wrong is wrong.
00:29:28And I'm going to be honest.
00:29:30I don't know who this is.
00:29:32I don't know.
00:29:34I do not know.
00:29:35I'm telling you.
00:29:37These green and white shoes, I never saw before.
00:29:40Okay.
00:29:54She's denying, basically knowing anybody.
00:29:56I would bet money they're involved.
00:29:58I would bet money they're involved, but we'll see.
00:29:58You have to get more.
00:30:03Then.
00:30:04Perfect.
00:30:05The team searching the brothers' apartment reaches out.
00:30:09So, they found 9mm handguns in there, and there are 9mm blazers.
00:30:13They recovered two stolen guns and ammunition that's the same brand as the casings found at the crime scene.
00:30:21So, I think we're on the right track here.
00:30:23That's good news.
00:30:24That would tie that apartment definitively.
00:30:27We'll test fire them here, and one of those weapons will hopefully match.
00:30:32So, I'll confront them on it.
00:30:38Hey, how's it going, man?
00:30:43So, a couple 9mm were found in your house.
00:30:48I've got the cameras.
00:30:50I've got video of you leaving.
00:30:53I want to know, yesterday night, who was with you when you went over to the trailers?
00:31:02Where'd the guns come from that were inside your apartment?
00:31:08Hmm?
00:31:12Your cousins?
00:31:14Was your cousin with you last night?
00:31:19But not last night.
00:31:22So, he wasn't involved?
00:31:26So, all I've got right now is you and your brother.
00:31:28That's a problem for you and your brother.
00:31:31I need you to come clean with me if there's a third person.
00:31:36Or, if you're the one who f***ed up, then say you f***ed up.
00:31:40And don't drag the other two down.
00:31:45Which one's you?
00:32:09He says he recognizes the men in the video from another apartment.
00:32:40The original ring camera footage that was sent to me,
00:32:42he's got even more.
00:32:44The owner of the doorbell camera sends additional video clips.
00:32:55He comes and picks up laundry at 10.04.
00:32:58Mm-hmm.
00:33:00The video confirms the younger brother was at home at the time of the murder.
00:33:10Okay, so he's ruled out completely.
00:33:14They're going to test fire the gun.
00:33:15And right now, eyeballing it, they think it doesn't match.
00:33:18That's what we're getting at.
00:33:20The casings from the crime scene do not appear to have been fired from the recovered weapons.
00:33:29These aren't the guys.
00:33:31It's someone else that just happened to come from the apartments where they are.
00:33:42Which part was he saying?
00:33:45He said the one next door, the one right to the left.
00:33:48That's a good one.
00:33:53Obviously, if you smell anything, let everybody get out and we'll detain everybody, like we did the first time.
00:34:10That's just bad luck.
00:34:13It was looking like these were going to be our guys.
00:34:16Sometimes you get it wrong, but you just don't know until you question them and try to get to the
00:34:19truth of the matter.
00:34:20They did have stolen guns and a stolen vehicle in their possession,
00:34:24so they are involved with criminal activity, just not what we're investigating right now.
00:34:29We let them go.
00:34:30We can always charge them later if we want to.
00:34:32No rush on it right now.
00:34:34I mean, I'm frustrated that it didn't turn out.
00:34:36But the positive side is where that apartment is, the upstairs, these are our guys.
00:34:41So at least we have these three are 100%.
00:34:45So now it's just a matter of if we can identify them.
00:34:48And this one is the one that fired the shots on camera.
00:34:52So nice to figure out who he is.
00:34:54If we identify all four of these subjects, all four will be charged with murder.
00:34:59Hand of one, hand of all.
00:35:13Large hospital is, you're right.
00:35:15Yeah.
00:35:17Yeah.
00:35:17Yeah.
00:35:18Yeah.
00:35:19Yeah.
00:35:23Nobody's coming to the door.
00:35:25The problem has been long enough to hit it.
00:35:29I have a male wearing a camouflage hoodie.
00:35:32Who's in and out that apartment?
00:35:33Miller recovers more doorbell video from an apartment across from the potential suspects.
00:35:39Oh, oh, hold on.
00:35:40That might be our guy.
00:35:42One of the suspects had a camo jacket on.
00:35:45He's got a camo jacket.
00:35:48She's here.
00:35:48He wears all the...
00:35:51I think we have enough video to maybe do a facial rec.
00:35:58We're on the right track.
00:35:59We got some stuff to go off of.
00:36:01We just kind of follow up on it.
00:36:10Later that night.
00:36:11So I have these pictures that we got from this ring camera that's across the hall.
00:36:16So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take that picture and put it into Verkata and see
00:36:20what pops up.
00:36:23Our Verkata cameras are a city asset camera that we pay for to install.
00:36:27Two years ago, the city of North Charleston added over 700 surveillance cameras across the city
00:36:33to help reduce crime and improve police response time.
00:36:36They record things at major intersections.
00:36:38We can see everything from shootings to robberies to collisions to petty larcenies.
00:36:43They're extremely used for one of the best tools we have.
00:36:46It's a facial recognition software for Verkata.
00:36:48It's a very new feature they just added.
00:36:51It'll show up a bunch of different pictures who could possibly look like who I'm looking for.
00:36:56Okay, so I just put these into Verkata.
00:36:59What do you think, Malone?
00:37:01Come take a look at this real quick.
00:37:03This guy pops up right here with that exact same camo jacket.
00:37:09This was earlier that day.
00:37:11Thursday, April 25th.
00:37:14That's possibly one of the suspects right there.
00:37:26I found something in my son's closet.
00:37:29Wrapping a plastic bag.
00:37:31I think it's a human head.
00:37:33Start fire!
00:37:35Get down!
00:37:36I was right there, and he stared at me.
00:37:39He has a gunshot under the neck.
00:37:40Gunshot under the neck.
00:37:41Go, go, go, go, go.
00:37:42Extreme call shot.
00:37:43Don't let him out of your sight.
00:37:45Hand back!
00:37:47If you're in here, make yourself know, where's he at?
00:37:50Crime in Progress.
00:37:52New episodes, watch now.
00:37:53Part of Crime and Investigation, only on A&E.
00:38:04That looks like the guy from the ring camera video of his camo jacket right here.
00:38:10So we're seeing a potential suspect wearing similar clothes the same day as the shooting.
00:38:19He's walking alongside another male, who's wearing similar clothes to what one of the other shooters is wearing.
00:38:26This dude looks like this dude right here.
00:38:29And then this guy right here with the long black shirt, the dark pants and the black shoes.
00:38:34Looks like this guy right here.
00:38:37I think that could be two of our guys right there.
00:38:41This varicata camera is located in our East Montague area.
00:38:46There is a school just down the street.
00:38:48Maybe somebody at the school would recognize those two.
00:38:50And then we're going to send these images up to SLED.
00:38:53That's our South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
00:38:56They have a lot of resources that we don't have.
00:38:58Hopefully, we can at least get the idea of two of the suspects out of the four.
00:39:10The next afternoon.
00:39:16This is apartment 13.
00:39:19And this is a guy that associates there.
00:39:26I heard back from Reeves.
00:39:27He talked to the school resource officer.
00:39:29We have identified him as Tristan Robertson.
00:39:33He's the one in the camel jacket.
00:39:37In his DMV photo, he's also wearing a camel jacket.
00:39:4319-year-old Tristan Robertson, a former student at North Charleston High School, has no prior convictions.
00:39:50Now, look who he's walking with.
00:39:51The body build of this guy.
00:39:54Doesn't that not look very similar to this person?
00:39:57The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division ran the photo in their database and got a hit.
00:40:04Facial rag, we identified him as Kobe Bryant.
00:40:08He was convicted of strong-arm robbery.
00:40:10He also got convicted for failure to stop for blue lights, so he's known to run.
00:40:15After serving 10 months in jail for larceny and receiving stolen goods, 22-year-old Kobe Bryant was released six
00:40:22months ago.
00:40:25I think this is Tristan, I don't know who this is, I think this is Kobe.
00:40:30So we're going to do like a workup on them, see if they're on probation, what their phone number is,
00:40:37all that.
00:40:37I hope we can get these guys in custody, because once we catch at least one of them, they'll hopefully
00:40:42snitch on the others.
00:40:50As the clock winds down...
00:40:52I'm Detective Vantine.
00:40:53I'm assigned to the case for both the robbery and the homicide.
00:40:57Vantine meets with Eriberto's family and the three robbery victims.
00:41:01When we came in on Thursday, we had no idea who did this.
00:41:05Friday, we ended up pulling video from the area and got a description of possible suspects.
00:41:11Now, today, we've got possible names, and we're trying to piece that together.
00:41:16So we're actually a lot closer than we were.
00:41:20Sometimes these investigations take time.
00:41:22Let them know the second we make an arrest, the second we make an arrest, they are the first people
00:41:27we will call and let them know.
00:41:29Please, we would really appreciate that.
00:41:31Oh, definitely. We're working hard, trust me.
00:41:33We are doing our best we can.
00:41:34So, if this is important, Detective, that they understand.
00:41:37Es importante que tienen...
00:41:38Esto se toma tiempo.
00:41:40This takes time.
00:41:41Yeah.
00:41:42Ellos están trabajando on-gone, ¿ok?
00:41:45Pero yo sé...
00:41:47Aquí tienen la mejor policía de toda esta área.
00:41:50The best police department there is, no Charleston, period.
00:41:54They're the best.
00:41:55You don't worry about that.
00:41:56Solo let them work, right?
00:41:58And work with the situation, but they need time.
00:42:01It's going to be okay.
00:42:02Okay.
00:42:18In the first 48, North Charleston detectives responded to the murder of Heriberto Martinez Martinez,
00:42:25killed in his sleep by a stray bullet during a robbery, spoke to the robbery victims,
00:42:30who said four men fled the scene, firing as they ran.
00:42:34Discovered video surveillance that tracked three of the men to an apartment complex near the crime scene.
00:42:39Identified two of the possible suspects as Tristan Robertson and Kobe Bryant.
00:42:44But all four suspects are still at large.
00:42:56Two days later...
00:42:58One of our guys that I think we've identified in the photo, Kobe Bryant, is going to meet with his
00:43:04P.O.
00:43:05Detectives head out to meet with Kobe's parole officers, hoping to question Kobe.
00:43:10We just want to talk to him, see if he will identify himself, and also see if his P.O.
00:43:14will identify him from that photo that we have.
00:43:25Thank you so much for meeting with us.
00:43:28I'm Detective Vanton.
00:43:29Nice to meet you.
00:43:30Same here.
00:43:31We'll show you a photo.
00:43:33Yep, that looks like him.
00:43:36That definitely, I can tell, is Kobe.
00:43:38That's Kobe?
00:43:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:43:41Is he pretty cooperative?
00:43:42Would he talk with us?
00:43:43I think so.
00:43:44Because believe it or not, he doesn't want to go back to jail.
00:43:46Helps us.
00:43:47Like, we'll try our best to help him.
00:43:50Let's check.
00:43:50You said 10 minutes.
00:43:51Okay.
00:43:53Thank you, guys.
00:43:54Yeah.
00:43:56Well, that's a good sign.
00:43:57She's pretty much thinking that's him.
00:43:59And it's just a matter of getting him to just say, that's me.
00:44:03And once he admits that, we have him.
00:44:06And all we have to do is, at that point, is to see if he'll give up the other names.
00:44:23Yeah, I see him.
00:44:24I see him.
00:44:25Yes, ma'am.
00:44:30I'm going to go hot.
00:44:31Come on.
00:44:36Kobe spots the detectives and takes off.
00:45:04Can I have an EMS to the Lonnie Hamilton building?
00:45:08Myself and a suspect, we fell after a brief foot chase.
00:45:12Did you see what kind of idiots are poking your stick here in the middle of that man?
00:45:16He just took off running.
00:45:18I caught him on the other side of the parking lot.
00:45:23We just wanted to talk to him.
00:45:24It makes it look a little weird that he just takes off running as soon as we get out of
00:45:28the car.
00:45:33Kobe Bryant's parole officer approaches Miller.
00:45:48Inside the car is the other person of interest, Tristan Robertson.
00:45:53There's Tristan in the back seat.
00:45:55Okay.
00:45:56Hey, go sit down back seat and retain that.
00:46:05Tristan.
00:46:05What's that?
00:46:05Okay.
00:46:07What's that?
00:46:07You got anything in here?
00:46:08What the f***?
00:46:10He's good.
00:46:11I got him.
00:46:12He's going to go sit at the hospital.
00:46:14We'll take him to the detective day right now.
00:46:16While Kobe is taken to the hospital for evaluation, Tristan is detained for questioning.
00:46:22We got Tristan and Kobe.
00:46:23Tristan was in the back seat to work out.
00:46:26Hopefully, he'll talk to us, though, because they're not happy right now.
00:46:36That's Tristan Robertson.
00:46:38I'm going to go in and try to interview him, see if he'll admit that he's in the photos.
00:46:43What do y'all need?
00:46:44A few kind words.
00:46:45Some support.
00:46:46You got this.
00:46:48You want a chest bump?
00:46:48You want me to punch you in the chest?
00:46:51Okay.
00:46:51Come on.
00:46:52I'm going in to hurt him.
00:46:56Hey, man, you need any water or anything?
00:46:57You sure?
00:47:00Hurry, go home.
00:47:01Okay.
00:47:02I'll try to get you home as quick as I can.
00:47:04Obviously, you saw what happened out there, right?
00:47:06Running and all that.
00:47:08You see me stay right here?
00:47:10I know.
00:47:11That's awesome, dude.
00:47:12How old are you, man?
00:47:1319.
00:47:1419?
00:47:15What grade did you complete in school?
00:47:1711.
00:47:18You got your GED or anything?
00:47:19No.
00:47:19I got you.
00:47:20You going to work on that?
00:47:21Yeah.
00:47:21That's all I'm trying to work on now.
00:47:22Sweet.
00:47:23What do you do for a living now?
00:47:24I work at Emily Oil.
00:47:25Oh, okay.
00:47:26I got you.
00:47:28No, basically, I just want to talk to you about some things.
00:47:30I want to show you some pictures.
00:47:32That's it.
00:47:33I don't know why he did what he did, but we'll talk to him as well.
00:47:37I want to show you a picture.
00:47:41This is off of, like, Jenkins Avenue.
00:47:43This is April 25th, which is a Thursday.
00:47:46Ventine shows Tristan the photo from city cameras taken six hours before the homicide.
00:47:55Do you have a camouflage jacket like that?
00:47:57No.
00:47:58I used to when I was, that was back in 2021.
00:48:03That how me?
00:48:04I don't know.
00:48:05That's not me.
00:48:08I was with my granny Thursday and Friday.
00:48:11Where's your granny house?
00:48:13West Ashley.
00:48:14The reason is, because, so, there was an incident that happened on Thursday night.
00:48:19Where?
00:48:20Around Midland Park and Stahl.
00:48:23I think you were with some people that messed up.
00:48:25Yes.
00:48:26I'm asking you, trying to treat you as a witness here.
00:48:30That's not me, though.
00:48:32I'm telling you, that's not me.
00:48:33Where I was at, you can call my dad and my grandma.
00:48:36So you stayed in West Ashley the entire time on Friday?
00:48:39I got you.
00:48:41Ventine shows him another photo taken by a city camera the day after the shooting.
00:48:49So you're saying that ain't you?
00:48:51That looked like North Charleston.
00:48:53Yeah, it's North Charleston.
00:48:54But you're saying you and West Ashley on this date?
00:48:59All right.
00:49:00We're really glad in North Charleston.
00:49:04You're saying, like, the pictures are completely wrong.
00:49:06I don't know.
00:49:07That's, I don't know.
00:49:07Like, how is there a picture of you in an area that you're claiming you're not?
00:49:11We have cameras all over the city.
00:49:13We have cameras all over Stahl Road.
00:49:15We have cameras all over the facet.
00:49:16You see what I'm saying?
00:49:17I was not on Stahl Road.
00:49:20I don't know what you're talking about, what happened on Stahl Road.
00:49:23I was not on Stahl Road.
00:49:25You can just get me a look.
00:49:27I don't know what it's going on.
00:49:29Okay.
00:49:32I'll be back.
00:49:33I told you where I was at, so.
00:49:34You sit tight.
00:49:38We're going to tell you.
00:49:46He's just denying everything.
00:49:47He didn't know what to say after he showed him that left.
00:49:49No.
00:49:50He said, that's not me.
00:49:52And then Lord, like, he literally said he's in West Ashley.
00:49:55He never left West Ashley.
00:50:02A few minutes later, Kobe arrives at headquarters.
00:50:08We'll get Detective Butler to try to talk to him.
00:50:11Maybe it'd be better that someone who wasn't on scene when he ran and ran after him would be probably
00:50:15better.
00:50:16He's requested to speak to Sergeant Mike Brown, who used to mentor him when he was a younger kid.
00:50:22The detective Kobe requested is currently working for the chief of police.
00:50:27So I'm going to get in contact with him to see if he'd be willing to come down and speak
00:50:29to Kobe.
00:50:31The murder's at 9.50 p.m.?
00:50:33Yeah.
00:50:33This is at 3.50 on the day of the murder.
00:50:36You get him to identify himself, that's going to be Kobe, and that's going to be Tristan.
00:50:41I just found this picture on Kobe's Facebook, and those shoes are the green Nike.
00:50:49The Facebook photo of Kobe was posted four months ago.
00:50:54His shoes match.
00:50:55If you watch the actual video, the shoes match from his picture there.
00:51:01All right, I'll go talk to him.
00:51:05All right.
00:51:06I'm going to go to the state on what's going on here.
00:51:12Who is that?
00:51:12Butler shows him a photo from a city camera on the day of the shooting.
00:51:17I don't know who that is.
00:51:20No idea who that is?
00:51:22No.
00:51:25But you know what happened Thursday?
00:51:27No, I don't know what happened Thursday.
00:51:30Let me ask you a question.
00:51:31You have some white and teal or bluish, like, high-top Nike or whatever?
00:51:37Did you let, you know what I'm talking about?
00:51:38It's on your, you're waiting on your Facebook page.
00:51:44Hey, man.
00:51:45That's what you, that's what you're asking for, right?
00:51:46Yeah.
00:51:47I go and see a great sloth for the day.
00:51:49Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:51:51I'm Kobe, hold on, hold on.
00:51:52You know how we roll, right?
00:51:54Sure.
00:51:55You have those shoes, right?
00:51:56No.
00:51:57Not no more.
00:51:58Did you give those shoes to somebody?
00:52:00No, no shoes were given to me.
00:52:01But I didn't give them.
00:52:03I left them at a friend's house.
00:52:04When?
00:52:05Long time.
00:52:07Okay.
00:52:08All right.
00:52:08We're going to talk to you for a minute.
00:52:13Listen, man.
00:52:14How long have we known each other?
00:52:16Long time.
00:52:17Long time.
00:52:18I know your family, right?
00:52:22I know you.
00:52:24And that may be the case, but they don't have you up here for no reason.
00:52:29I've been doing this for a long time.
00:52:30I'm telling you 100%.
00:52:32Everything that they're asking you, they know the answers to for the most part.
00:52:37They're not just asking you for no reason.
00:52:39This is your opportunity to help yourself out as best you can.
00:52:44There's only one thing I need from you.
00:52:47I need for you to at least tell me the truth.
00:53:08Kobe, listen to me.
00:53:09I don't want to see you throw your life away, dude.
00:53:12Me neither.
00:53:13I just got home.
00:53:14So I can get my life back together.
00:53:17Right.
00:53:18And I don't want to see anything happen to you.
00:53:20But if you're not telling the truth, you know what's going to happen.
00:53:24But I had nothing to do with this situation.
00:53:26I had nothing to do with it.
00:53:27I don't even know what's going on.
00:53:30I'm not saying that you did anything, that you shot somebody.
00:53:35But I know you might be a witness to it.
00:53:37Witness to a murder?
00:53:40I didn't know nothing about no murder, no nothing.
00:53:43I didn't know it was something that happened on Star Wars last week.
00:53:46I saw it on Facebook.
00:53:49So what happened?
00:53:50I don't know.
00:53:51It said somebody being robbed or something.
00:53:52Best to get into armed robbery with you.
00:53:54I guess one person died or some shit.
00:53:56I don't know nothing about this.
00:53:57I'd be in my cowhouse.
00:53:59I'd be at work.
00:54:00And I'd be home.
00:54:01Other than that, I don't be in nowhere else.
00:54:05You know there's a difference between being a suspect and a witness, right?
00:54:10I'm innocent.
00:54:11What's the difference?
00:54:12I ain't a suspect.
00:54:13I'm innocent bystander.
00:54:15Right.
00:54:15And what's a witness?
00:54:17Someone has knowledge of me.
00:54:18I don't got knowledge of shit.
00:54:20Right.
00:54:20So there's two different things.
00:54:22Yeah.
00:54:22I guess I don't have any rules.
00:54:23I don't have knowledge of what happened Thursday night.
00:54:25And I was not a suspect of shit happening.
00:54:27Thursday night.
00:54:29I got you.
00:54:29I understand what you're saying.
00:54:32What you're trying to say.
00:54:33I'm trying to understand what's going on.
00:54:36I wasn't there.
00:54:38And if I was, then I would have told you what I did.
00:54:40But I wasn't there.
00:54:43What if there's something that shows different?
00:54:46There's something that shows different than I and me.
00:54:48I and me.
00:54:50I don't want to be anywhere.
00:54:53All right.
00:54:54It's Sergeant Bailey.
00:54:56What's up, man?
00:54:56Yes, sir.
00:54:58So, I know you've been in here talking to Sergeant Brown.
00:55:01Because I've been listening.
00:55:02He's not lying to you when he tells you that we have a lot more than what you think we
00:55:06have.
00:55:07I want to wait some stuff down on the table for you, all right?
00:55:11Because we've been investigating this thing since it happened last Thursday night.
00:55:15All right.
00:55:17So, you know that the city has thousands of cameras around it?
00:55:22Pretty sure live.
00:55:23Yeah.
00:55:23Let's just make this real easy, okay?
00:55:26Who is that?
00:55:30You.
00:55:31Okay.
00:55:31I'm not trying to trick you.
00:55:33All right.
00:55:33What's the time frame on that?
00:55:354-27.
00:55:3730.
00:55:37All right.
00:55:38Okay.
00:55:38This is East Montague.
00:55:40I'm trying to jog your memory.
00:55:42All right.
00:55:42Same area.
00:55:43Same day.
00:55:47Who's that?
00:55:48Bailey shows him a photo of Tristan.
00:55:51What the f*** my lawyer?
00:55:52What the f*** my lawyer?
00:55:54What the f*** my lawyer?
00:55:56What the f*** my lawyer?
00:55:59I don't know who that is.
00:56:01You don't know who that is?
00:56:02I met him today.
00:56:04I know.
00:56:05I met him today.
00:56:06I don't know who that is.
00:56:11You met him today?
00:56:12Yes.
00:56:13Kobe, you don't lie to the million.
00:56:16Look at me.
00:56:16Look at me.
00:56:16You met him the day when you went to this man on Thursday.
00:56:19It's not a trick question.
00:56:21Thursday.
00:56:21All right.
00:56:22Thursday.
00:56:22Like I said, I was trying to see my PO.
00:56:25Somehow, somehow, he was there.
00:56:31Okay.
00:56:31You have to understand what I'm trying to tell you.
00:56:34You're in a situation.
00:56:35I know I'm in this situation.
00:56:37Yeah.
00:56:37I want you to understand how bad this situation is.
00:56:39Ain't got nothing to do with me.
00:56:40And I've got your PO telling me, when they watch your video, this person right here?
00:56:48That dude, right there.
00:56:50Supposed to be me, huh?
00:56:52See, he's saying that, isn't he?
00:56:55If you're with Tristan.
00:56:57All these pictures right here, y'all got me in this s***.
00:56:59Finally, nothing wrong in this s***.
00:57:04So, you're admitting that's you?
00:57:05No.
00:57:06That's me.
00:57:06All right.
00:57:07That's me.
00:57:07That's me.
00:57:08And that's me.
00:57:09Okay.
00:57:09What's the s*** you mean?
00:57:10Well, I got black hat on in these pictures.
00:57:13Where the s*** green hat comes from?
00:57:14I don't know.
00:57:14A second.
00:57:15The thing I'm trying to let you know is all these guys right here, even from this apartment
00:57:20complex, which is less than 300 yards away from where the incident location happened,
00:57:25wearing the same blue.
00:57:26I don't got no green hat.
00:57:28I don't care what you want.
00:57:30We got no green hat.
00:57:31What's wrong I'm saying, Kobe?
00:57:32I have not seen any of this.
00:57:34You share with Sergeant Bailey more than you share with me, and I know you.
00:57:38All right, but...
00:57:39Kobe, I know you.
00:57:40I don't make me feel.
00:57:42But you didn't tell me about any of this.
00:57:44I didn't know he has none of this s***.
00:57:45I'm not going to ask you.
00:57:47I'm not going to ask you.
00:57:48I'm going to speak to my lawyer.
00:57:50All right, I'm going to speak to my lawyer, bro.
00:57:52I'm going to speak to my lawyer.
00:57:54I'm leaving.
00:57:54He's staying as your friend.
00:57:55I'm leaving.
00:57:56I don't got no friends, bro.
00:57:57I don't got no friends.
00:57:58I'm going to speak to my lawyer.
00:57:59I understand.
00:58:01But Kobe, listen to what I'm telling you.
00:58:04Turn around, man.
00:58:04Let's talk.
00:58:05Turn around.
00:58:06Let's talk.
00:58:07That's disrespectful to turn your back on me.
00:58:09You remember, y'all didn't give me s***.
00:58:10Y'all seen I was a mom and an armed robber.
00:58:12I was some s***.
00:58:12I'm not talking about that no more.
00:58:14All right.
00:58:15I'm here for you.
00:58:17I think this is the best detective unit in the state.
00:58:20Probably in the world.
00:58:22They're great at what they do.
00:58:24They'll find the truth.
00:58:25I guarantee you that.
00:58:26They'll find it, but I wouldn't do it.
00:58:28They'll find the truth.
00:58:29Yeah.
00:58:30I'm always around, so call me if you need to talk to me about this.
00:58:34All right?
00:58:40He loaded up, so it's not what I can do with that.
00:58:42Oh, yeah.
00:58:43He loaded up.
00:58:43He was being faced with too much music.
00:58:46But I did leave him with, I'll be here.
00:58:49I can just have somebody call me.
00:58:50We'll talk it out.
00:58:53When I got the call that he was down here, I had to get prepared to put the Big Brother
00:58:57coat on.
00:58:58Sergeant Mike Brown first met Kobe several years ago as a school resource officer.
00:59:03I played football with his uncle in high school, and he walked up to me like, hey, you know
00:59:08my family.
00:59:09And so we formed a pretty good rapport, good relationship, and I always kept that door open
00:59:14with him like, hey, man, if you need something, I'm there for you.
00:59:18But in this case, it's different.
00:59:20I mean, it's a murder, so it's kind of hard to break that barrier right now.
00:59:25Probation officer called just now.
00:59:28Yeah.
00:59:30Kobe's mom called her.
00:59:31She found credit cards and debit cards with Hispanic names in Christian's room.
00:59:37According to the parole officer, the cards were found in a bedroom shared by Kobe's two
00:59:42younger brothers.
00:59:44Kobe's got a brother named Christian and a brother named Jameson.
00:59:52Christian Bryant.
00:59:5420-year-old Christian Bryant has no prior convictions.
01:00:00This is Jameson Bryant.
01:00:0218-year-old Jameson Bryant also has no prior convictions.
01:00:06The thing is, is we have four suspects, so it could be all of them and Tristan.
01:00:12I'm ready to go home.
01:00:14Y'all have to run, man, come on.
01:00:16That's what I'm thinking.
01:00:17It's going to be him, his two brothers, probably, and Tristan.
01:00:21That witness approach may be failing with him because he knows it's his brother to be the
01:00:25shooter.
01:00:27F***ing hell.
01:00:29Let's go.
01:00:30We've got to get a search warrant going.
01:00:31We need to get someone over there to get those.
01:00:34Give Tiffany the phone number.
01:00:36Because Tiffany's going to go with Gina and Cockroach.
01:00:42That's her apartment.
01:00:43That's her contact number.
01:00:45Okay.
01:00:47Really, if we can get the names on the cards and then we'll still do a search warrant.
01:00:51I hope they come back to our victims.
01:00:54I think these are our guys.
01:00:56What the f*** is happening here?
01:01:00F*** them!
01:01:01If the credit card comes back to one of the victims that was robbed, that would steal the
01:01:06deal.
01:01:14Hello?
01:01:15Yeah.
01:01:18I'm going to put you on speaker.
01:01:23I'm going to repeat that.
01:01:25Caitlin just got a call back from the armed robbery victim.
01:01:28He confirmed that that bank card is his.
01:01:34Thank you so much.
01:01:35That's awesome.
01:01:36That's great news.
01:01:38Bye.
01:01:39Kofor's son fled the residence, and she doesn't know where they are.
01:01:44According to their mother, Christian and Jameson left home after hearing Kobe was detained
01:01:49and won't return her calls.
01:01:51Kobe was staying with his girlfriend, which is in Goose Creek.
01:01:55That means the clothing's probably in her house in Goose Creek.
01:01:58The team will get warrants to search Kobe's girlfriend's house and his mother's house for additional evidence.
01:02:05It's his two brothers.
01:02:07That's why he can't.
01:02:08That's why he won't play.
01:02:09Because he can't ride on his brothers.
01:02:11I think with the credit card being found now that belonging to the victim, I think, obviously,
01:02:16murder charge on him.
01:02:18And there it's a game.
01:02:18I think he can go murder on him.
01:02:19I'm going to go murder on him because he's with him before and after.
01:02:23What the f*** is going on?
01:02:26What the f*** is going on?
01:02:34I don't like the way this thing's going.
01:02:37Mooseh, should I go in jail?
01:02:40All right.
01:02:40Where are you going to jail for?
01:02:41They just told me they found some stuff at your mama's house, and that's not cool.
01:02:47Like, that ain't cool because I'm sure your mama ain't have nothing to do.
01:02:50Mama, she don't, and I don't either.
01:02:53So who has access to your mom's house besides you and your brothers?
01:02:56They don't.
01:02:57And my mama.
01:03:01So which one of them might be involved in this?
01:03:19I don't know which one of them will have war today.
01:03:21I don't know.
01:03:21I get it.
01:03:22I understand.
01:03:24It's tough.
01:03:28I can't put your fingers like that.
01:03:29I can't take nothing but nothing.
01:03:33Put the charges on.
01:03:35They're probably going to charge you with murder.
01:03:37I charge him with murder for.
01:03:39F***.
01:03:40I don't know if I'm a f***er, man.
01:03:42Don't put your mom through this, bro.
01:03:44Don't do it.
01:03:46You've got to be responsible for anything that you've done or anything that you have knowledge of.
01:03:53Really?
01:03:53If you didn't find out my mama's house, I don't know what you're talking about.
01:03:55I don't know what you're talking about.
01:04:00I don't know what you're talking about.
01:04:03If you know I'm talking to me, you know where I'm at.
01:04:05You know how to get in contact with me.
01:04:06She said the answer is before.
01:04:10He's not coming off.
01:04:11He's going to tell on a brother, you know.
01:04:13So I understand.
01:04:15But it's what it is.
01:04:20It sounds like his brothers are involved.
01:04:24Some of the things may be at his mother's house.
01:04:26It's a sad situation.
01:04:28But it never has to happen this way.
01:04:30We all have choices.
01:04:31I told him if he wants to talk to us, he knows how to get in touch with me.
01:04:37All right.
01:04:37We're going to transport you to jail.
01:04:39What my choice is?
01:04:40Murder.
01:04:41Murder?
01:04:41Yeah, murder.
01:04:42Me?
01:04:43Yeah, you.
01:04:43How the f*** is that?
01:04:45How I get him?
01:04:46What the f*** is stupid?
01:04:47That's not me, bro.
01:04:49Wrong person.
01:04:50It's no f***ing man.
01:04:51Well, you're being charged with her.
01:04:52That's f***ing down, bro.
01:04:53That's f***ing down.
01:04:54Who does a baby to the jail, so?
01:04:56I have a f***.
01:04:57I'm not charged with you.
01:04:58Dumb-ass people.
01:05:00Dumb-ass people.
01:05:02Taking that s*** all the way to trial.
01:05:04I'm calling.
01:05:06It's been a good day.
01:05:07We actually got two suspects in custody for murder.
01:05:10So out of the three suspects, that's Tristan Robertson, and that's Kobe Bryant.
01:05:17This person, we do not know, and he's the shooter.
01:05:20There's actually a fourth suspect that's not pictured here, that shows up with them.
01:05:24I believe it's going to be his brothers.
01:05:26It's just not proving it.
01:05:37The next day...
01:05:41You want some water or something?
01:05:43No, I'm okay.
01:05:46This is Kobe's mom.
01:05:48Kobe's probation officer wrote me an email this morning saying that Kobe's mom wanted to talk to us.
01:05:54She wants to provide additional information because she thinks that her other son is involved with the homicide.
01:06:01Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.
01:06:06Oh, man, I want to check the band time.
01:06:08Nice to meet you.
01:06:11I got here.
01:06:11Two sons that live with you are Christian with a K?
01:06:16Yes.
01:06:17And the other one is Jameson?
01:06:18Yes.
01:06:19Where are they now?
01:06:20I have no clue.
01:06:24When did Kobe move out?
01:06:26Kobe's been gone for about a month, and I found out what I found out yesterday.
01:06:30What did you find out?
01:06:31So what I heard from Kobe's P.O. is that first he was being detained, and he was supposed to
01:06:36be a person of interest to the robbery.
01:06:41And I was like, what?
01:06:42Like that.
01:06:42You know, I'm shocked.
01:06:44So she was just filling me in what's going on, and she said it was a Mexican person that died.
01:06:52I was like, what?
01:06:53I was like, it's funny when she said that.
01:06:55I was like, well, I found a Mexican check in my house Friday.
01:06:59Yes.
01:06:59When I went inside their room, it was sitting on the floor.
01:07:02So I picked it up, and I looked at it.
01:07:04I'm like, I know for sure that nobody's in my household.
01:07:07So when Christian got back, I was like, well, whose check is this?
01:07:10Oh, I found it on the ground.
01:07:12I said, well, why would you be stupid to pick it up and bring it home?
01:07:15Just get rid of it.
01:07:17He said he tore it up, and he threw it away.
01:07:24I said, well, let me just let her know what's going on.
01:07:29You know what I'm saying?
01:07:30Yeah, yeah.
01:07:31I really appreciate it.
01:07:34I know it's hard.
01:07:35Go for it.
01:07:36I could just find my kids.
01:07:59She IDs the suspected shooter as her 18-year-old son, Jamison.
01:08:06Do you think Christian would be with him?
01:08:08Do you think he'd be one of the guys running in the video?
01:08:14I'm not sure.
01:08:18All right, I can call him.
01:08:19Yeah, you can ask him.
01:08:21No, I'm going to just be scared of what's up, because I mean, I don't have the time to shake
01:08:25a cord.
01:08:25I don't have the time to shake a cord or something.
01:08:26Your name?
01:08:29I'm going to ask you honestly, you got something to do with this Robert Ruto?
01:08:34I have been like the man wasn't involved.
01:08:38How do you mean you've been with them?
01:08:40I have been like the man was involved.
01:08:41So, you've been there when the Robert Ruto plays too, because the civilians touches I'm looking at?
01:08:46I expect all three of them look like y'all.
01:08:48I, I, Jamison been here too?
01:08:51I need you to answer my question.
01:08:53Was Jamison with y'all?
01:08:55I knew what y'all did when I found them checks and I asked you about them checks
01:08:59why y'all did what y'all did y'all you know somebody did
01:09:05you're not involved in it but you've been there with the robbery was going on
01:09:09you don't you know what we're going to phone so would you like to come in and
01:09:12talk Christian right now because this serious matter too hard
01:09:18if you only did nothing then why are you running
01:09:23I ain't the person that you he hung up
01:09:26you know he said Jameson was with him yes he said of course oh is that what he said
01:09:31I couldn't hear yeah so that's all three of my kids and and the other one yeah so I don't
01:09:36know
01:09:36what else to do no you've done a lot I appreciate you you calling him and all that and if
01:09:41you can
01:09:42convince him to come and meet with us at some point not now I mean just you know no you
01:09:46need
01:09:46to come out he knows that's what he hung up I really appreciate it no problem I think that's
01:09:54about it I know we have your number as far as a victim I know I'm probably not allowed to
01:10:00reach
01:10:00out to them because they are my kids do you know what I mean but can I express my sympathy
01:10:05you know
01:10:05I do just apologize for it I can't take it back but you know it's just not right at the
01:10:10end of the day
01:10:10oh gosh they make their own choices okay don't put that on you
01:10:19yeah of course you can't come back then it wasn't because of choices you made
01:10:26I'm fine I'm not here today okay I'm trying to focus okay that's it I'll reach out to see
01:10:32what I can do and I'll let you know I didn't go from it's fine thank you no problem
01:10:41she is so cooperative an amazingly wonderful cooperative mother and all three of her kids
01:10:47are involved I feel horrible for her she identified one in the middle saying that looks like Jameson
01:10:52and then she called Christian on the phone and he said he was there and Jameson was there for the
01:10:57robbery on speaker yeah they're in the wind and she's gonna try to call them and try to get them
01:11:07to come in that made the case right there helping us to uh bring justice to this family quicker than
01:11:14it would have been done if she hadn't come in and gave us that information she was upset but she
01:11:18said that she wanted to appear in court just so she can see the victims and tell them how sorry
01:11:25she is that her sons did this our two outstanding defendants I will send the warrants over to our
01:11:33marshals task force and they will start tracking them so we can locate them and safely effect an arrest on
01:11:38them
01:11:49eight days later
01:11:55the marshals track Christian and Jameson to a relative's house in Glen Terrace
01:12:01we're surrounding the house and we're gonna try to get them out peacefully but swat on standby just in case
01:12:34negotiations are in progress right now and we're standing by
01:12:38you know they're armed we know they're dangerous so we just want to take all precautions to make
01:12:42sure the citizens nearby don't get hurt nor any officers nor them ready as the team approaches the house
01:12:56the brothers flee out of the back
01:13:2320 year old Christian Bryant is taken into custody you good
01:13:32but the suspected shooter Jameson Bryant is nowhere to be found
01:13:36so I did not locate in the house they slipped out it's still a win still a win in the
01:13:42book three down one to go
01:13:52Christian
01:13:53right Brian I know you know what you're out here in reference to
01:14:26I want to get your side of the story of what happened
01:14:27it was like come on let's go for a walk I was like a walk I'm like oh we got
01:14:31the car you can just drive it was like
01:14:33it was right around the corner so I was like it's cool
01:14:36so what happened how did it go down
01:14:51how many people have firearms that have with you
01:14:54the only one that I know of okay and is that Jameson
01:15:04okay so so you did not have a firearm
01:15:08no no I promise you no did Kobe had a firearm
01:15:12not that I'm aware of no did Tristan have a firearm
01:15:14yeah I'm sure no so I'll say this all evidence is pointing to Jameson is the one that had the
01:15:18gun
01:15:18I'm not saying that you that you're saying that but all evidence is showing me that right and when are
01:15:25the shots fired
01:15:26uh I guess when we were sleeping and I heard or someone's chasing us I never looked back at another
01:15:32it was the gunfire on the side of my head
01:15:35so you're fleeing and you hear gunshots as y'all are running away
01:15:38yeah
01:15:42you know bullets don't have names right
01:15:50let me ask you something why you may come
01:15:52in here prior to
01:15:53once they had murder I was like
01:15:55I don't think I must have trust myself
01:15:57all right
01:16:02so we may have to go ahead and just get you transported over to county
01:16:04okay
01:16:11he confirmed that his brother Jameson
01:16:13is the one that had the gun
01:16:15and basically told us a story of what happened and it
01:16:19matches up exactly with the scene and what the victim said happened
01:16:24so it really helps it really turns the case from a circumstantial case to a really strong case
01:16:31all right
01:16:33Christian you can stand it up
01:16:34you are being charged with murder
01:16:40no you're not doing it Christian
01:16:44how old are you bro
01:16:4620 right
01:16:47look at me
01:16:49don't
01:16:50no you're not
01:16:55okay well
01:16:57you had a full life ahead of you
01:17:05he's definitely has some remorse
01:17:06he's said several times like
01:17:09um he's gonna kill himself when he gets to jail because his life is over
01:17:14um so like with that we'll let the jail know and he'll be on suicide watch
01:17:18you could see that he does understand um the foolishness for lack of a better term of what they did
01:17:26the next step would be obviously get um Jameson in custody and ideally would get to um a confession from
01:17:33him as well
01:17:44six weeks later
01:17:45the marshals got him
01:17:46they zeroed in on the location in greenville
01:17:49and then got him
01:17:51Jameson Bryant
01:17:51he is the fourth suspect i believe to be the shooter
01:17:54they caught him in greenville south carolina
01:17:56it's about a three hour drive away from here
01:18:03that's a good song
01:18:06you need some water
01:18:07yeah
01:18:10we have a bunch of fries though
01:18:12you know french fries
01:18:13french fries
01:18:25all right
01:18:26did he say anything or anything
01:18:31he i mean i didn't ask him a whole lot because i didn't want to get going
01:18:33yeah
01:18:34he knows the marshals told him what his charges were
01:18:36so he knows his murder and he come out of the cell and in greenville singing
01:18:41and rapping
01:18:42i told him we were coming back and he was talking
01:18:44he's like okay
01:18:45all right
01:18:46let me go in there
01:18:50it's pretty cold hearted
01:18:51put the gun in his head and
01:18:53pulled the trigger and didn't go off
01:18:54it jammed
01:18:55yeah

01:24:50yeah it went well
01:24:52i think realizing that it wasn't a debate that i had a lot of evidence he knew he had something
01:24:57on him so he might as well just tell his story
01:24:59he's the shooter all four of them were going to rob these guys and during the course of the robbery
01:25:04he fired shots which ended up killing an innocent person
01:25:08those actions led to him being charged with murder and the other three members of the group being charged with
01:25:14murder instead of just armed robbery
01:25:17i weren't the one-on-one-one- rest
01:25:20i thought he was gonna give me one color it can't come in for the first 40 years

01:25:43car
01:26:08This was an act that should have never happened,
01:26:10and now one mother has three of her sons
01:26:14in jail for murder,
01:26:15and the other mother has her son gone forever.
01:26:19But I'm thankful that the mother of the suspect
01:26:21stepped forward and did the right thing.
01:26:23That's unique, and I'm thankful,
01:26:26and I know the family must be thankful towards her
01:26:29for stepping up and doing that,
01:26:31even at the cost of her kids.
01:26:43Do you remember this photo?
01:26:46Yes.
01:26:58This photo was when he arrived here,
01:27:02to the South Carolina.
01:27:22He loved being an uncle.
01:27:24My kids were never without a candy or a lollipop or something,
01:27:29because Uncle Bocho bought it.
01:27:32He was a great guy.
01:27:34Anything we needed, he was always willing to help.
01:27:38Yes, well, as I do, I thought,
01:27:42I was very good at the person who met him
01:27:46and now, that's what I do,
01:27:51I don't have the word.
01:27:53And all the days do you take your vela?
01:27:57All the days.
01:28:00We're sad.
01:28:02A loss of a child possessive.
01:28:07It doesn't matter what you think of a human being.
01:28:10A man who was sleeping, was in his house,
01:28:14and he was sleeping.
01:28:14And that's what I do most.
01:28:16I don't know what to say, man.
01:28:20I have a lot of time.
01:28:22I feel completely tired.
01:28:32He was my friend.
01:28:35And, well, he left.
01:28:40And I understand that
01:28:43we have to go ahead.
01:28:50We always talk about him.
01:28:54Always the good stuff.
01:28:57Keep his memory alive.
01:28:59We already have to get into it and it's the best of us.
01:29:01Thank you for doing such a thing.
