00:00Good morning. Well, it's a very mild and in places damp start to the new working week in the north.
00:05But in the south, some of us are waking to scenes like these.
00:07Quite atmospheric conditions with mist and fog around first thing this morning in the south,
00:11particularly south of the M4.
00:13And here we'll see those fog patches only slowly clear as we go through the course of this morning.
00:17But by this afternoon, many of us will be dry with sunny spells across the south and the east
00:22and pleasantly warm in that sunshine as well.
00:24Further north, a cloudier story though.
00:26Bits and pieces of rain and drizzle across parts of north Wales and northern England.
00:30With the rain across Scotland gradually filtering southwards into the central belt
00:33and into northern Ireland by this afternoon.
00:36Bright skies will follow to the north and the west across northern Scotland.
00:39But here it will stay very windy.
00:41Gales or severe gales at first this morning and the winds only slowly easing as we go through the afternoon.
00:47So temperatures of 13 or 14 degrees will feel fairly cool with those brisk winds.
00:52Otherwise though, many places seen temperatures well above average for early October
00:56highs of 22 or perhaps 23 Celsius in the south east of England
01:00and temperatures across the east of the UK in particular,
01:02some 6 or 7 degrees Celsius above where we'd expect to see them at this point in October.
01:08So a rather warm end to the day in actual fact across many southern and eastern areas
01:12with some late sunshine and staying largely dry in southern parts of the UK
01:16as we go through the course of tonight.
01:18The rain across northern Ireland and southern Scotland will gradually erratically make its way
01:21a little bit further south to lie across parts of northern England by the end of the night
01:26with the odd shower elsewhere, particularly in northern Scotland.
01:29Here it will turn relatively cool tonight but the winds will continue to gradually ease.
01:33So lows of around 7 or 8 degrees Celsius.
01:36Many places elsewhere, those holding up in double figures, just a little bit chillier further south.
01:41And we will once again see some fog patches developing across southern regions of the UK,
01:46particularly once again South Wales and southern England where the fog potentially could be a little bit more extensive
01:51and locally dense.
01:53So generally worth keeping an eye on the forecast if you do have travel plans on Tuesday morning.
01:58There could be some localised disruption.
02:00But the fog will perhaps take a little bit longer to clear as well.
02:03But by the afternoon many areas will be dry and bright with some spells of sunshine.
02:08Further north, that band of rain continues to make its way slowly south eastwards
02:13but generally for petering out so bringing some showery outbreaks of rain primarily to northern England by the afternoon.
02:19To the north and the west, brighter skies following to Northern Ireland
02:22and there will still be a scattering of showers across the north of Scotland
02:25but some sunny spells around here too.
02:27A cooler day to come across some northern areas compared to today.
02:3113 or 14 degrees across many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland
02:35but still warm for the time of year across the bulk of England and Wales
02:39particularly so in the very far south east where we could once again see 23 Celsius in one or two
02:44spots.
02:45Notice though there are some showers starting to move in from the south
02:48just creeping in towards the south coast of the UK
02:51and that is a sign of things to come as we go towards Wednesday
02:54so an increasing chance that we could see some more persistent and heavier rain developing across England and Wales
02:59for a time clearing away to the east later in the day
03:02and then all areas turning quite a bit colder by the end of Wednesday into Thursday too.
03:07A mixture of sunshine and showers for many
03:09and as I say cold enough for a touch of frost perhaps in some rural areas overnight
03:13so feeling a little bit more seasonal as we go towards the middle of the week.
