00:00Hello, good afternoon. Well, October hasn't felt very autumnal so far in the south, has it?
00:05And it's actually set to stay unusually warm through the next few days.
00:09Further north, though, it is a different story, certainly a much more autumnal feel here.
00:12That's courtesy of these isobars being much closer together, so it's been a windy start to the day for some
00:17northern and western parts of Scotland.
00:18This weather front has been bringing some rain, particularly to the northwest highlands.
00:22As we can see on the latest radar, it's pretty wet so far this morning across the highlands in particular,
00:27the Hebrides as well.
00:28These colours indicate some quite heavy bursts of rain over the high ground.
00:32Further south, though, we did see some fog patches first thing this morning.
00:35Actually, it was a pretty chilly start to the day.
00:37Temperatures got down, well, close to freezing in some rural spots in south Wales and central southern England.
00:42But here we've got plenty of fine weather through the course of this afternoon.
00:45Barely a cloud in the sky, actually, for some.
00:47So plenty of sunny spells and feeling unusually warm once again for October.
00:52Temperatures rising into the 20s Celsius by this afternoon.
00:56A cloudier story further north and west, though.
00:58Bits of drizzle across the high ground of Wales, for example, and northwest England as well.
01:02But the wettest weather will generally tend to be across the west of Scotland.
01:06Notice these colours here.
01:07Still some heavier bursts, perhaps across the highlands in particular, but generally a pretty wet and windy afternoon for the
01:12west of Scotland.
01:13Bit brighter, perhaps, for Aberdeenshire and the northeast.
01:17But still blustery winds nonetheless.
01:19And actually, the winds will be strengthening as we go towards the end of the day.
01:22So temperatures here above par for the time of year, 16 to 18 degrees Celsius for many.
01:27But notice 21 or 23 degrees Celsius in the best of the sunshine further south.
01:33Now, as we go through this evening, it will stay generally dry and with largely clear skies across the south
01:38and the east of the UK.
01:39We are set to see temperatures drop down into the mid to high single figures in the countryside by the
01:44morning.
01:44As well as that, some mist and fog patches developing as well.
01:47Possibly a bit more extensive than last night and certainly most likely to the south of the M4 corridor.
01:54Further north and west, though, it will be too breezy for any fog or mist around tonight.
01:57And there will still be some bits and pieces of rain across parts of north Wales, the northwest of England,
02:02the Pennines.
02:03Quite drizzly in nature as well.
02:05But the wettest weather reserved once again for northwest Scotland.
02:08Here, it will turn increasingly windy through the night.
02:11Gales developing in coastal regions and perhaps severe gales for Shetland and Orkney by the morning.
02:16But with those winds coming in from a very mild southwestly direction,
02:19temperatures for some in the north won't fall below 15 or 16 degrees Celsius tonight,
02:24which is pretty incredible for October considering the daytime maximums are around 15 or 16 degrees here.
02:30Further south, though, as I say, perhaps turning a little bit chilly in the countryside.
02:34Lows down to 6 or 7 Celsius, perhaps in central southern England.
02:38Here, the fog will gradually clear on Monday morning,
02:40but perhaps leave yourself a little bit longer before you commute to work
02:43because there will be some very poor visibilities in some spots.
02:47Sunny spells developing, though, quite widely for central southern England,
02:50perhaps south Wales as well, and certainly across to more eastern parts of England.
02:53So, another warm day for October here.
02:56Further north, a band of cloud and some outbreaks of rain pushing southwards,
03:00clearing away from northern Scotland.
03:02But by the afternoon, quite a wet picture for Northern Ireland.
03:05Sunny spells and a few blustery showers for northern Scotland by this point.
03:08And the winds will gradually ease down for many northern areas,
03:11but staying very windy in the far north of Scotland,
03:14with gales continuing for Shetland and Orkney.
03:17Here, a little bit cool, obviously, in the wind.
03:19Highs no better than 13 or 14 degrees.
03:21But generally, temperatures, once again, widely above average for the time of year.
03:2522 or 23 degrees Celsius, perhaps, in the southeast of England.
03:29And this graphic here just indicates how widely unusual the warmth is.
03:33Temperatures, well, some 5 to 7 degrees Celsius,
03:36above average for many central and eastern parts of England
03:38through the afternoon on Monday.
03:40Just a little bit closer to average in the very far northwest of Scotland.
03:44So through Monday evening, the band of rain continues to make slow and erratic progress further south.
03:49Not much, really, on the weather front.
03:51So most of the rain will be fairly light, mostly over the high ground in the west.
03:55But a little bit of a damp picture, nonetheless.
03:57And that weather front will eventually make it to central parts on Tuesday,
04:00perhaps pepping up Tuesday into Wednesday to bring some slightly heavier rain
04:03for some southern and eastern areas.
04:05And then by Wednesday and Thursday, we open the doors to northerly winds.
04:09So it is set to turn considerably cooler for all of us.
04:12Temperatures dropping back down to average or even below average in some spots.
04:16Highs no better than 13 or 14 degrees.
04:19So it will really feel quite chilly compared to the warmth that we've seen of late.
04:23But of course, you can always follow us on our social media channels
04:25so you don't miss any details on the upcoming change.
04:28And I'll see you again very soon.
