25 October - National Evening Forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello, good evening, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Obvious.
00:04It's been a chilly Saturday, northerly winds,
00:07meant temperatures were below average for many of us
00:10and it's very little change over the next 24 hours or so.
00:14We keep that northerly flow.
00:15However, this weather system will move in from the northwest through Sunday
00:18and bring some cloud and rain across many areas slowly through the day,
00:22introducing showers behind that.
00:24And next week it stays rather unsettled, further spelt of rain at times.
00:29But that's just signs that the winds will become more westerly rather than northerly
00:32and it will just allow the temperatures to recover.
00:36A chilly evening out there, further showers, particularly across England and Wales,
00:40pushing southwards, some heavy showers across northern Scotland too.
00:43These will continue to be wintry through the night, across the higher ground as well.
00:47But you can see across parts of southern Scotland, northern England,
00:51down into the Midlands, southeast England, we'll see some clear skies.
00:54And winter will fall light inland but stay blustery around the coasts.
00:58And where the winds fall light, we could see a touch of frost in one or two spots,
01:02particularly in the countryside.
01:04Towns and cities down to low single figures.
01:07But in the countryside, temperatures perhaps fall into freezing,
01:10if not minus two, minus three Celsius, for example, in the glens of Scotland.
01:15So it does mean a chilly start to the morning on Sunday.
01:19Plenty of sunshine to greet us,
01:20but there will be showers from the word go across the west.
01:23And through the morning, it won't be long before the cloud increases across northern Ireland, Scotland,
01:28as a band of rain moves in.
01:30Potentially a little bit of snow over the higher ground as that weather front bumps into some colder air.
01:35And then through the day, that weather system sinks its way slowly southeastward.
01:39So rain arriving across the rest of England and Wales by the afternoon,
01:43though southeast England largely staying dry, though becoming cloudy.
01:46And temperatures generally similar to what we saw today, between 8 and 12 Celsius.
01:53But given more cloud around, the wind's still coming in from the northwest,
01:56which will be blustery in places.
01:58It will be another chilly-feeling day.
02:00Perhaps a few glimmers of sunshine moving into northern Ireland and northwest Scotland before the sun sets.
02:06Then into the evening time, the band of rain continues to push southwards across England and Wales.
02:11Clearer spells following behind, but plenty of showers.
02:14Showers frequent across the north and the west of the UK.
02:17Some of these heavy at times.
02:19So generally, through the night into Monday morning, there'll be more cloud around.
02:23And that will keep temperatures a little higher tonight.
02:25We'll see here temperatures 7 to 9 Celsius for many.
02:29Perhaps even double figures across the far southwest.
02:33Take us into Monday morning, where it will be a cloudy start here.
02:36Outbreaks of rain on this weather front expected to be here for much of the day.
02:40Elsewhere through the day on Monday, a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.
02:44Some places will stay dry all day, though the showers as they pass through should be largely light in nature.
02:50Temperatures similar, though just rising a little bit.
02:5212 to 14 Celsius across England and Wales.
02:558 to 11 Celsius for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:59And the wind is still generally coming in from a northwesterly direction.
03:03As we look through next week, it stays mixed.
03:06We'll see showers, some longer spells of rain at times too.
03:09But in between, there will be some sunnier breaks.
03:11And temperatures, particularly across England and Wales, just hovering around, if not a little above average at times.
03:16But still rather chilly, particularly across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
