00:00You know, sometimes I pray and I ask for guidance, and sometimes I can't tell if it's God answering
00:08me or if it's just my own mind. You know, I think one of the hardest places to be is
00:15lying there at
00:16night, exhausted, wanting God to be clear and still not knowing what you're hearing. You pray,
00:24you ask him to show you what to do. You try to listen. You try to calm yourself down, but
00:31your
00:31mind, well, in my case, my mind keeps moving. One thought sounds wise for a minute, then fear gets
00:40on top of it. Sometimes it feels right. Then five minutes later, I'm questioning the whole thing.
00:49And after a while, you're not even sure if you're trying to hear from God anymore or if you're just
00:57trapped inside your own head. And I think a lot of people live there. You know, they love God.
01:04They're not playing games. They're not trying to be rebellious. They really do want his direction.
01:12But they're tired of guessing. They're tired of second guessing. They're tired of wondering if this
01:20feeling is from God or is it from fear or from pain or from loneliness or from their own desperation
01:30to get the answer. And that can wear a person down. You know, it's hard enough when life is already
01:39heavy. And then on top of that, you feel responsible to hear God correctly. You do not want to make
01:46the
01:46wrong move. And you do not want to call your own thoughts God's voice and end up walking into something
01:54you were never supposed to walk into. And you don't want to miss him either. So now the pressure is
02:01not
02:02just the problem you're facing. The pressure is also that you're scared of getting the answer wrong.
02:08That is a rough place to live. And I think one reason this gets so hard is because people expect
02:16God's
02:17voice to always feel obvious. They expect some huge moment that wipes out all uncertainty at once.
02:25And sometimes God does do that. Sometimes he really does make something plain. But a lot of the time
02:36it's not like that. A lot of the time you are trying to hear him while your emotions are loud,
02:44while your stress is loud, while your fear is loud, while your past is loud, while the stakes feel high
02:54and
02:54while your own mind is racing ahead, trying to protect you from pain. So the real question becomes,
03:02how do you know when it's really God? And I think part of the answer is that God does not
03:11sound like
03:12panic. And that matters more than people realize. You see, fear rushes, fear pressures, fear makes
03:21feel like it has to be decided right now or your whole life is going to fall apart. Fear does
03:29not know
03:30how to sit still. It doesn't know how to breathe. It just pushes and pushes and pushes until you feel
03:40like you have to do something even if something is wrong. And God does not lead people like that.
03:47You see, he can call you to do hard things. He can tell you to move. He can tell you
03:55to let go.
03:56He can tell you to wait when waiting feels awful. But even when God's way is difficult,
04:04there is something clean about it. There's something steady about it. There is something true in it that
04:13does not have to scream over your soul to be real. Think about that because that's important.
04:23It's important because a lot of people have followed urgency and called it God. But urgency is not always
04:32God. Intensity is not always God either. A strong feeling is not always God. And just because the
04:42thought keeps repeating does not mean heaven sent it. You see, emotions are not prophecy. Sometimes it
04:52just means you're scared. Sometimes it just means you're hurting. And sometimes it means you want relief
04:59so badly that your own mind is trying to create certainty before real clarity has come. And
05:07that is not me judging anybody. That's me just being honest about what it feels like to be a human
05:15being. And when you're under pressure, your thoughts get loud. Hey, mine do too. And when you're lonely,
05:23your thoughts get loud. Mine do too. When you're grieving, your thoughts get loud. When you're facing a big
05:31decision, your thoughts get loud. And if you are not careful, you can start bowing to whatever is
05:39loudest instead of learning how to recognize what is truest. And God's voice? Well, God's voice is often
05:49truer before it feels louder. That's something people need to hear. God's voice has weight to it. Not
05:58fake peace. Not emotional numbness. Not pretending everything is fine. But a steadiness. A truthfulness.
06:08A cleanness. Even when it confronts you, it does not feel like chaos. Even when it stretches you,
06:17it does not feel like inner madness. Even when it leads you somewhere hard. It's not leading you
06:26like a tormentor. It's leading you like a shepherd. Remember that. That does not mean you'll always feel
06:34100% certain. I think that is another place people get tripped up. They assume that if it's really God,
06:42they should feel completely settled all at once. But sometimes you can know enough to take the next
06:50step without knowing everything. Sometimes God gives light for the next step, not for the next 10
06:58years. This is true. Sometimes what he is building in you is not instant certainty. Sometimes he is
07:08building trust. And trust is deeper than certainty. Certainty wants the whole map. Trust is willing to
07:17walk with God before the whole map is visible. I know it's hard. I know it's tough. Especially when
07:25you're already tired. Especially when you've already been through pain. Especially when part of you is
07:32saying, Lord, I do not want another lesson. I just want clarity. And we need to be honest with God
07:43about how we feel. But sometimes clarity comes slowly because God is doing more than answering one
07:49question. Sometimes he is teaching your heart not to be owned by fear. Sometimes he is teaching you how
07:58to stay close to him without needing your emotions to settle first. Sometimes he is teaching you that his
08:06character is more dependable than your ability to figure everything out. And that's a deep kind of
08:15freedom. Because once you start learning that, you stop chasing every thought that runs through your mind.
08:22You stop treating every burst of emotion like it's a message from heaven. You stop letting panic
08:29preach to you. And you start slowing down. You start paying attention. You start noticing what pulls you
08:38toward truth. What lines up with the heart of God. What carries quiet conviction instead of frantic
08:47pressure. And what sounds like Jesus instead of sounding like your fear wearing a spiritual mask.
08:56And that matters. Because God will never lead you deeper into chaos just to prove he is speaking.
09:04He is not confused. He's not manipulative. And he's not frantic. He does not need to make you
09:13mentally spin to move your life forward. So, if your mind is loud right now, do not worship that noise.
09:24Slow down. Breathe. Tell God the truth. Tell him you're confused. Tell him you're afraid of getting it wrong.
09:34Tell him you're tired of trying to sort out what is him. And what is just your own thoughts.
09:43Bring him the whole mess honestly. Not polished or impressive. Just the real you. And then stay near him.
09:53That matters more than most people think. Because sometimes the breakthrough is not that
09:59you instantly hear one sentence that solves everything. Sometimes the breakthrough is that you
10:07stop running around inside your own head long enough to become still again
10:12in his presence. And that's where a lot of people start hearing more clearly.
10:20Not because your life just got less serious. And not because the decision stopped mattering.
10:27Not because your soul got quieter. And when the soul gets quieter, you start noticing the difference
10:36between the voice that scares you and the voice that steadies you. One voice makes you feel like
10:45everything depends on you. Another reminds you that God is still God. One voice drags you into pressure.
10:55The other brings you back to truth. One voice will leave you more scrambled. The other brings a deeper
11:06kind of peace, even if the road ahead is still hard. And that is the voice you follow. Not the
11:14loudest,
11:15the loudest one. The truest one. So if you're in a place today wondering if it is God or just
11:22your own
11:23mind, remember this. God's voice does not need panic to be powerful. And when he speaks, even if the path
11:34is difficult, there will be something about it that brings you closer to truth, closer to trust, and closer
11:43to Jesus. And that is how you begin to know. My name is Douglas Vandergraaf, and I believe in Jesus
11:55Christ.
11:57God bless every single one of you. Every single one.
12:04God bless every single one. Bye-bye.
