00:01You know, sometimes I sit quietly and talk to God, and the conversation is very simple
00:09and very honest. I look up and say something like this, God, there has to be someone better
00:18than me for this, because this feels important. And out of all the people on this planet,
00:27surely you could find someone more qualified. And I'm not saying that out of false humility or
00:35some kind of performance. I struggle quite a bit to do this. And I'm saying it because it's the truth
00:43of how I feel sometimes. When the work starts to grow, and the message begins reaching people you
00:50never expected it to reach, there are moments when the weight of it hits you. You realize this
00:58isn't just talking into a camera or words on a page. This is about people's lives. It's about hope.
01:07It's about faith. It's about helping someone hold on when they feel like giving up.
01:15And when you realize that, a person naturally starts wondering if they're really the right one
01:22to be doing it. I think a lot of us have those kinds of conversations with God, don't we?
01:31Even if the calling in our life looks different. Maybe you're raising children, and you wonder if
01:38you're doing it right. Maybe you're trying to lead your family with integrity. Maybe you're trying
01:45to rebuild your life after some hard years. Maybe you're trying to speak about faith, even though
01:54you're still learning yourself. Like me. You see, there are moments when you step back and think,
02:03God, you could have picked someone better for this job. And that feeling doesn't mean you're weak.
02:11It doesn't mean your faith is small. If anything, it means your heart understands the responsibility of
02:20what you've been given. And the strange thing is, when you start to read the Bible closely,
02:28you realize that feeling is almost always a pattern in the life of people God uses.
02:37The people who end up doing meaningful things for God almost never start by saying,
02:43I'm perfect for this. Most of them start by pointing out why they aren't. Moses didn't feel like a leader.
02:53He argued with God and said he wasn't even a good speaker. Moses, I don't know if you know, but
03:02he had a severe stutter, and he changed the world. Gideon looked at himself and basically said he came
03:12from the weakest family in the smallest tribe. Jeremiah said he felt too young and inexperienced.
03:23Peter was a fisherman with a timber who made mistakes and doubted himself more than once.
03:31None of these people look like the obvious choice if you're building a team on paper,
03:37but God saw something deeper than their resumes. Kind of makes you think about the movie,
03:44The Bad News Bears, right? You get a group together and you look at them on paper and you say,
03:50Hey, this is not the right team. However, they end up winning the whole show. I love that movie.
03:58And, you know, that's where things start to shift for us too. Because when we look at ourselves,
04:05we tend to measure everything based on our own abilities. We look at our education, our past,
04:12our personality, our mistakes. And we add all those things up like they're the final verdict on what we
04:20can do. But God doesn't look at people that way. He doesn't start with the question,
04:28are they impressive enough? He starts with the question, is their heart open enough for me to
04:37work through them. And that changes everything. It means the story was never supposed to be about
04:44how great we are. It was supposed to be about what God can do through someone who simply keeps
04:52showing up. And one of the things I've learned in my own life is that God doesn't seem nearly as
05:00concerned about our qualifications as we are. You know, we spend a lot of time worrying about whether
05:07we're ready, whether we're good enough, whether we know enough. And meanwhile, God seems to be asking
05:15a much simpler question. Will you keep walking with me? That's it. Not, are you perfect? Not,
05:25do you have everything figured out? Just, will you keep going? Because a person who keeps walking with
05:34God, even when they feel unsure of themselves, becomes someone God can use in ways they never
05:42imagined. And sometimes I think the reason God chooses ordinary people is because ordinary people,
05:51we tend to stay close to them. And when you know you don't have all the answers, you keep praying.
05:59When you know you're not the smartest person in the room, you keep asking for guidance. And when you know
06:07you can't carry the mission by yourself, you lean on God more heavily. And that dependence, well,
06:16that dependence is not weakness. It's actually where strength starts growing. The moment a person
06:25believes they can do everything on their own is usually the moment they start drifting away from God.
06:32But the person who quietly says, Lord, I need you every step of the way is exactly the kind of
06:41person
06:41God loves working with. Another thing I've come to realize is that the parts of our story that we think
06:50disqualify us are often the very parts God plans to use. Maybe you're like me and you spent years not
07:01believing in God believing in God. Maybe you made mistakes. Maybe you took a long road to get where you
07:09are
07:09today. From our perspective, those things feel like baggage. But from God's perspective, those things become
07:19bridges. Someone who once struggled with belief can speak to doubters in a way that feels honest and real.
07:28No. I'm a former atheist. Today, I talk to millions of believers around the world every single day with reassurance,
07:40motivation, and inspiration for the love of God. I'm the last guy you would pick. But God changed my life
07:49and turned me into who I am today. And here I am. You know, someone who went through pain, well,
07:57that person
07:57can recognize that pain in other people and meet them with compassion instead of judgment. Someone who
08:06didn't grow up as the obvious religious voice might actually reach people who would never listen to a
08:15polished preacher. Do I look like a polished preacher? I got a band shirt on, but I'm happy and I
08:23like being
08:24me. So I'm just going to keep showing up every day and just keep being me. You know, so I
08:30sit here and I
08:31tell God, you could probably find someone better than me. And I sometimes imagine God smiling a little at
08:40that conversation. Not in a mocking way, but in a patient, fatherly way. Because he already knows
08:49every weakness I see in myself. And none of it surprises him. He knew all of it before the first
08:58word ever left my mouth. And yet the calling has never disappeared. The opportunity didn't vanish.
09:07And this door has stayed wide open. And that tells me something important. That God doesn't choose
09:16someone by accident. When he places something in your heart and he nudges you toward a direction,
09:23or when he opens a path that you didn't expect to walk. He's doing it with full awareness of who
09:32you
09:32are. He knows your strengths, your limitations, better than you ever will. And somehow, in his wisdom,
09:42he still says, let's go. Unbelievable. And I think the real secret of people who end up doing meaningful
09:52work in God's kingdom, isn't that they believe they are the best person for the job. It's that they
10:00decide to keep showing up anyway. They keep praying. They keep learning. They keep trying to help people.
10:10They keep doing the small things faithfully, day after day. And over time, those small acts of
10:19obedience turn into something bigger than they ever expected. Way bigger. We've been doing this for
10:28several years now, and we're at 600,000 subscribers. I never thought we would get here. And it just keeps
10:38growing every day. And, you know, if God's cool with me being handicapped, and have a lazy eye,
10:48and being a bald-headed guy, and all the things that I look down upon myself about, and he's still
10:54willing
10:55to let me show up every single day, and support me with some of the most incredible results ever seen
11:04for a platform like this, I'm going to keep showing up every single day. Because you know what? That just
11:13shows me that God is real, that God cares about us, and I can always depend on his support.
11:22So if you ever find yourself having that same conversation with God, saying, Lord, there must be
11:30someone better than me, I just want you to know that you're not alone. In fact, you might be standing
11:37in
11:37the exact place where many people before you once stood. The feeling of being unqualified isn't the
11:47end of a calling. Sometimes it's the beginning of one. Because the moment you admit that you can't do
11:54it alone, is the moment you start leaning on the one who can. And maybe the most honest prayer a
12:03person
12:03can pray isn't a speech full of confidence. Maybe it's something much simpler, and much more human.
12:13Maybe it's, God, I don't fully understand why you chose me for this. But if you're willing to walk with
12:24me,
12:24I'm willing to keep going. My name is Douglas Vandergraaf, and I believe in Jesus Christ.
12:35God bless every single one of you. Every one of you. Bye-bye.
