A shocking case of alleged medical negligence from Haryana’s Faridabad has triggered outrage after a pregnant woman was reportedly forced to deliver her baby in the park of a government hospital during the night because the main gate was locked and no medical staff responded to repeated cries for help.

The disturbing incident took place at the 30-bed First Referral Unit hospital in Sector 3. The woman, identified as Balesh from Badoli village, had been rushed to the hospital after she went into labour.

According to family members, they first reached the hospital’s main gate, only to find it locked. Despite repeatedly knocking and shouting for assistance, no doctor, nurse or hospital employee reportedly came forward to help.

The family later found another gate at the back of the hospital premises and entered in search of emergency support. However, they alleged that even after entering the hospital compound, no medical staff attended to the woman.

As labour pains intensified and no emergency response arrived, the baby was eventually delivered in the hospital park itself with the help of a female relative who had experience handling childbirth. The delivery was reportedly carried out under torchlight before the mother and newborn were shifted inside the hospital.

“My husband and brother-in-law kept shouting for help after entering the hospital premises, but no staff came. By the time help reached us, the delivery had already taken place,” Balesh reportedly said.

The woman later gave birth to her third son.

District Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Rachna stated that the patient had arrived in a fully dilated condition and delivered within minutes. She said the OPD gate remains shut at night, although another gate was open for emergency services, and described the incident as unfortunate.

Following public outrage, the health department launched an inquiry on the directions of the health minister and the director general of health services.

Officials admitted there were deficiencies in night duty arrangements, particularly regarding the absence of a staff nurse and other employees. Authorities confirmed that two staff members found responsible have been suspended.

The Haryana government has also announced plans to set up a maternal and infant mortality “war room” in the coming months to improve monitoring of pregnant women and strengthen emergency medical response systems.
