Shamli (Uttar Pradesh): A case of alleged assault and misconduct against a market inspector has come to light at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (Gur Mandi) in Kandhla town under Kandhla police station limits.

The incident reportedly took place in the morning when Mandi Inspector Arvind Kumar Yadav was collecting fees from traders as per targets set by the Saharanpur Mandi Parishad.

According to the complaint, when the inspector reached a trader’s shop, a dispute broke out after he was accused of overcharging. It is alleged that four individuals—Shahnawaz Raj, Sabir Raj, Wahid Raj, and Mohid Raj—abused, pushed, and assaulted him.

The inspector further alleged that the accused forcibly took him to an office, where he was harassed and threatened. He was reportedly rescued only after other traders intervened.

In his complaint, Arvind Kumar Yadav stated that the accused also raised slogans against him, issued death threats, and made objectionable religious remarks, warning him not to continue his duties in the market. He also claimed that the accused have a history of intimidating mandi officials and irregularities in payment related to contracts.

A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing a heated altercation and alleged manhandling of the official.

The inspector has sought strict legal action and security, stating that his life is in danger. Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Officials added that action will be taken based on evidence, including the viral video.
