Tension prevailed in Kaila Bhatta village under Kotwali police station limits after a man allegedly forced an elderly shopkeeper to shut his mutton shop, threatening to set it on fire if it remained open on a Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Satyam Pandit, who claims to be associated with the Rashtriya Hindu Veer Sena. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, February 24.

Threats Caught on Video

A video of the incident was shared by Pandit on his Facebook account on February 25. In the clip, he is seen confronting the shop owner and asking whether they had “permission” to sell meat on Mangalwar (Tuesday). He is heard telling the shopkeeper to close the shop immediately, citing the presence of a nearby temple.

He allegedly warned, “If the shop is seen open on Tuesday again, I will set it on fire in a minute.”

Following the confrontation, the shopkeeper and his staff complied and moved their business inside.

In the caption accompanying the video, Pandit wrote that meat shops would not be allowed to operate in Ghaziabad on Tuesdays and claimed that they had got shops in Kaila Bhatta closed.

Police Response

The Station House Officer of Kotwali police station stated that the matter came to their notice through social media.

“We received information about the incident from social media. Officers are on the field inspecting the situation. We are awaiting more information,” the SHO said, adding that no case has been registered so far and investigation is underway.

The incident has sparked debate over vigilantism and enforcement of self-imposed restrictions on businesses.
