00:00Let's go to the Make It Right Call, Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:02Welcome in Nathan Segura, Browns Cuddle Analyst on the radio.
00:06He joins us right now.
00:06Nathan, good morning to you.
00:09Good morning, Monterey.
00:11Great to be with you again.
00:12Just a few hours after we parted after midnight last night.
00:15It was.
00:16We were together all night last night, my friend,
00:20and we'll be together all night tonight for day two coverage,
00:22night two coverage of the 2026 NFL Draft,
00:25your flagship home for Cleveland Browns football, 92-3.
00:28The Fan, you, me, Gerard, and Andrew Siciliano,
00:31the voice of your Browns, going to be taking you through
00:33rounds two and three later on tonight.
00:36Let's go over the picks in round one.
00:37First off, Spencer Fano.
00:39Nathan, you and I have been doing this together a long time,
00:41one of our favorite interviews that we've ever had.
00:44He became emotional when we told him that,
00:48or you mentioned that he's going to be working with Joe Thomas.
00:51He is overjoyed to be working with the Hoff.
00:55Oh, man, yeah.
00:56He literally kind of got choked up and teary on the phone with us.
01:00You know, we kind of talked about yesterday leading up to the draft
01:05and leading up to the Browns pick that, you know,
01:07kind of the vibe was that they were going to trade back
01:09and they were going to go with the offensive lineman first.
01:12And I think it's fantastic that Carnell Tate was off the board already,
01:15so there's going to be no discussion of, oh, they could have had Carnell Tate.
01:19He was gone.
01:19And if he tightens took him, that's a non-story.
01:21So they're going to move back and get their offensive lineman.
01:24Obviously, they got the pick of offensive linemen.
01:26They got their top guy on their board in Spencer Fano.
01:29I tweeted, they quote tweeted me on that when I said it on the show last night.
01:33Somebody was like, oh, do you know that?
01:34Well, because he was the first offensive lineman taken.
01:36That's how I know he was their favorite offensive lineman.
01:39And then you look at the fact that the run-on offensive lineman
01:42actually was much more wild than the run-on wide receivers.
01:46So they were still able to get a receiver.
01:48The Browns wanted, there were four receivers that the Browns wanted in the first round.
01:52They were able to get their guy in Casey Concepcion later on.
01:55So Spencer Fano, though, we heard Todd tell us as he spent a gracious amount of time with us
02:00and so honest, and it was great to get to chat with him yesterday.
02:04But they see him as a left tackle, not concerned about the arm length.
02:08It's just a hair under 33 inches.
02:11But, you know, he's got the feet.
02:13He's got the athleticism.
02:14He's got the toughness.
02:15He's got the character.
02:16They believe that he's a foundational piece.
02:17And I think that's what everybody wanted out of that first pick for the Cleveland Browns.
02:21Time will tell if that's what it becomes.
02:23But that's what everybody wanted.
02:24The Browns feel like they got a guy.
02:26And, heck, Monk said to us, and this guy could be a left tackle.
02:28It could be a right tackle.
02:29It could be a guard.
02:30It could be a center.
02:30We think he can do anything.
02:31He's that talented, that infectious, that competitive.
02:34And so they're very happy to get Spencer Fano.
02:36You know, a lot of people thought was the best offensive lineman in this draft.
02:40The question was just, you know, at least in the media, once he a tackle,
02:43well, the Browns clearly feel that he is a tackle and he won't be the left tackle.
02:47I love the fact they also extracted even more value moving down.
02:50And I know some people looked at the old trade charts and said they didn't get enough value.
02:54It's like the fact that they got anything at all and still was able to get the same dude they
02:58wanted all along.
02:59I think that's asset management.
03:02That's exactly what I think Andrew Barry is really, really good at.
03:06Now, the question is, did he pick a really good player?
03:08I noticed those RAS scores, and this gets a little into the weeds, were very high on him.
03:13I saw something to the effect, like, 34 out of, like, 1,000-plus guys, you know, at that position.
03:21But the arms is the one thing everyone's going to bring up.
03:24Tell us why that may not make a difference here.
03:27Well, as Andrew Barry said to us, and I talked, obviously, I've talked with the Hoff about these things.
03:34Arm length is more important on a guy that is not as mobile.
03:38And because you need to have the reach because your body isn't able to get into the right positions as
03:44easily.
03:44With a guy like Spencer Fondo, his calling card is his athleticism.
03:48His calling card is his ability to move and be in the right positions and to shorten,
03:54be able to eliminate the ability to shorten that corner for a pass rusher,
03:58to be able to lengthen it with his body and his movement skills.
04:00So that's why they're not as internist.
04:02Also, he ended up measuring the combine.
04:04Measurements turned out to be an outlier this year for everybody.
04:07And so he's really at 32 and 7-8.
04:10The threshold's 33.
04:11So we're just going to give him an eighth of an inch.
04:13But they think his athleticism is not a problem.
04:15And this is a discussion.
04:16Had Will Campbell had a better Super Bowl, this might not be as big of a discussion as it is
04:20right now.
04:21That's a great point.
04:21But these are the things that people get into in combine time.
04:24I mean, I go back to Jared Goff, right?
04:26And did Jared Goff won a Super Bowl?
04:27No, but is Jared Goff proven to be certainly worthy of being a top pick in the draft?
04:30Yes, he's been a franchise quarterback for many, many years.
04:32There's, you know, the whole concern was, were his hands big enough?
04:35Were his hands big enough?
04:36Well, nobody's talked about his hands since before he was drafted.
04:39So it's just kind of one of those things.
04:41And, you know, you've got to back it up with the play and make sure that it ever doesn't,
04:44you know, it doesn't become a talking point.
04:47Nathan Zegura joining us here on the show.
04:49So with the overall plan, okay, would you have wanted to move up for Makai Lemon then there,
04:55Nathan, and what do you think it would have taken for the Browns to do so?
04:59So first off, would I?
05:02Yes, I would have.
05:03I really like Makai Lemon.
05:05I think he gives you that good weapon over the middle of the field.
05:08And it wouldn't have taken much, right?
05:09They gave up, the pick before them gave up two fourth round picks and got a seventh round
05:14pick back.
05:14And the Browns with the three fifths, there's something they could have done there.
05:17However, my opinion was my own.
05:21I can tell you, and you were there with me, after talking to Munkin about Casey Concepcion,
05:27I feel a lot better.
05:28This feels a lot to me like Todd Munkin was heavily involved in a collaborative way, obviously,
05:33but he likes Casey Concepcion a lot.
05:37He sees a lot of Zay flowers in him.
05:40In fact, if you go and look, one of the two things they have in common, great off the line,
05:45great creating quick separation, great making big plays, great getting into the end zone.
05:50You know, Casey Concepcion scored 30 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
05:54That's as many as Garnell Tate and Makai Lemon combined.
05:57So that is that, he knows how to take it to the house.
06:00His drop rate, actually lower than Zay flowers in college.
06:02And I think everybody on the Browns will be thrilled if they get a player who's similar
06:06to Zay flowers.
06:07So the fact that Todd Munkin has a vision for him, he sees that he will be an outside player,
06:11obviously can line up in the slot as well as we saw in his time at Texas A&M.
06:15But that gave me a little bit more comfort.
06:17His drop rate in college is actually not that far out of line with a lot of very successful
06:22receivers in the National Football League.
06:24So that makes me happy.
06:26And the fact that, you know, Todd Munkin really was excited about it, that Todd Munkin said,
06:31listen, we knew that by the way the board was falling, Lemon or Concepcion was going to
06:35get to us.
06:35And we liked both of them a great deal.
06:37And you're going to be able to get the guy.
06:39And I just like how excited he was about Casey Concepcion.
06:41That gave me, Todd Munkin has been great with receivers everywhere he's gone.
06:44And he picked Zay Flowers to be the first Pro Bowl receiver in the history of the Baltimore
06:47Ravens franchise.
06:48So I like that.
06:50And the other thing that I like, and so many people are like, oh, well, they drafted a punt
06:53returner in the first round.
06:55That's a bonus.
06:56Happened to be first team All-SEC as a receiver, first team All-SEC as a punt returner.
07:00Took two to the house last year.
07:01We've been desperate to get somebody at a return there.
07:03But had Casey Concepcion not been a returner at all, had that not factored into his evaluation
07:07whatsoever, he still would have been the Browns pick at number 24.
07:10So I think people can take a little bit of comfort in that and, and we got to get it
07:14right.
07:14Browns have not drafted first round receivers often.
07:17In fact, since the team's come back, it's just Braylon Edwards and Corey Coleman.
07:20So hopefully Casey Concepcion is a guy for the first time in a decade.
07:24We get a first round receiver.
07:25We're in that arms race.
07:26And I'll tell you what, you could tell that they think he could be the top pass catching
07:31target on this team quickly.
07:33If things go well.
07:34So you're, you do see him as a potential, because this was the big debate yesterday and
07:39look, same thing, Zay Flowers, they have been debating forever and he had a breakout year
07:42this year about whether he could be a number one wide receiver.
07:45You're confident that you think he does fit the bill despite the size limitations and all
07:50of that.
07:51You think he could be wide receiver one.
07:54Todd Munkin's confident in it.
07:55And he knows a heck of a lot more about offensive football and wide receivers than I do.
07:58So that gives me confidence.
08:00Do you think this was, you know, you know, and when I, listen, I've been on the radio,
08:03you know, my thoughts on the wide receivers have been out there for a long time.
08:06I was a big Carnell Tate guy.
08:07I liked Jordan Tyson.
08:08I liked Lemon.
08:09Concepcion, when you see those drops and you think about the history with the Cleveland
08:12Browns and receivers, you know, struggling to catch ball, that immediately is a red flag.
08:17Now, everybody is different.
08:18And another thing that gave me a little bit of, of comfort, Matt is, you know, I watched
08:23the tape Steve Smith put out about Casey Concepcion and I listened to some of the other,
08:27you know, real tape junkies about him.
08:30Those are more concentration drops.
08:32So what I mean by that is him, it wasn't necessarily a technique thing.
08:36He's not a body catcher.
08:37He does use his hands, which is good that sometimes he's trying to take it to the house
08:42every time.
08:43And so his eyes can get a little distracted as he's trying to get up field too fast.
08:46He's trying to make plays.
08:47And I think if you've got a guy who can put the ball in the end zone, you can live
08:50with
08:50some of those things.
08:51I think it's something they're going to really work to coach them out of it.
08:54Todd Munkin talked about that, but that's better than it being him, a body catcher who struggles,
08:58you know, with that, because that's just a technique issue that will be very hard to change
09:03this late in your career.
09:04He is a hands catcher.
09:06It's some concentration stuff.
09:07So hopefully that's, that manifests itself.
09:11But Todd is very excited about what he can do because he said, look, when you've got guys
09:14that can get open and can get open quickly and then make plays with the ball in their
09:18hands, those are quarterbacks, best friends.
09:20Nathan, obviously they have more ammo and I still think they need a wide receiver with size.
09:24I know Chris Bell is around.
09:26There's other guys they could take.
09:27Do you think the potential is there even at number 39?
09:31Or do you think now you got to start to peruse some other positions?
09:35Listen, you're talking to me.
09:37Weapons, weapons, weapons.
09:38So Denzel Boston's still on the board.
09:40Malachi Fields is a big bodied receiver.
09:42Chris Bell, whom you mentioned, the kid Ted Hurst, I like him a lot.
09:46So maybe somewhere around two, round three, 39, if they had conviction about a guy, I'm all
09:50for it.
09:50Let's get this wide receiver room as loaded as we can because we're trying to compete
09:54with a Ravens team with a two-time MVP, a quarterback who can score in bunches, with
09:59the Cincinnati Bengals in our division, with a Steelers team that thought they were going
10:03to have Makai Lemon, and thank goodness they don't, but brought in Michael Pittman alongside
10:07DK Metcalf.
10:08So this is a little bit of an arms race in our division.
10:11So would I be opposed to that?
10:12No.
10:12But other positions I'm looking at, nickel corner.
10:15I think that if you've got a corner that can be a nickel, but also maybe have some outside
10:19versatility, that would be great.
10:21But getting a nickel corner, I think that's an area on the starting lineup that you could
10:24certainly improve.
10:25That's nothing against Miles Harden, who I thought played well last year.
10:28But we're talking about that's a six-round pick, trying to get somebody with a little
10:31second-round pedigree here.
10:32I think the safeties, I love the kid from Arizona, love the kid from Toledo.
10:36The Browns play three safeties.
10:37If you can get a safety that can play single high, but also come down to be a little bit
10:41of a nickel for you, maybe that's another way to skin the cat with the nickel game there
10:44is the Browns play a lot of that big three safety, big dime look.
10:47I would love one of those two safeties.
10:50I think you can always add to the edge room, and there's some good edges on the board.
10:53I think as the draft progresses, you're going to need an interior offensive lineman.
10:57So I would expect that as it goes on.
10:59You're going to need a tight end.
11:01And there are good options that are dual threats.
11:03But the guy that I really like, and I don't think he's going to cost you maybe a pick today,
11:06or if he does, it would be later today, is Will Casamarek from Ohio State.
11:11Big, physical.
11:12Think about what Charlie Kohler was for the Ravens, and he played a big role for that team as
11:16kind of the big blocking tight end, Ohio Steel.
11:18I think Casamarek would be a great pick for the Browns.
11:21And then, you know, as you round everything out, is there a potential, maybe not today,
11:25but down the road, is there a quarterback that you take a flyer on?
11:28That's something to look at.
11:29And the other one would be off-ball linebacker.
11:31There's a kid who went to my high school, Adam Roe Catholic, in the Bay Area, Hayward,
11:35California.
11:36I played for TCU, Elam Arms, that I think would be a nice Will linebacker.
11:40This is a draft where you can find some young linebackers.
11:42And if you really think about our linebacker room, Carson Swessinger's playing the league
11:46for one year, defensive rookie of the year.
11:47Quincy Williams has been a first-team all-pro.
11:48He's a veteran.
11:49After that, you have guys who have not played in the NFL at all.
11:53So bringing in, I know a rookie wouldn't have either, but bringing in somebody with a little
11:57bit of pedigree that you're excited about to buttress that room, I think, would certainly
12:00be a good idea today as well.
12:02You paying attention to the Steelers' introductory press conference, considering they have to have
12:05a press conference for a guy that everybody knows they really didn't want?
12:10That'll be interesting, but I don't think any introductory press conference or any press
12:13conference at all is going to come close to what we witnessed down in Los Angeles yesterday.
12:19It was.
12:19I thought you were going to talk about another press conference there for a second.
12:22I went, oh gosh, he's taking it there.
12:23I didn't really, okay.
12:25It was a little something.
12:26It was something out of Sean McVay and everything.
12:29I'll give you that.
12:30That was pretty wild.
12:31He did not seem happy at all.
12:35And Sean McVay is, I think, just too authentic of a person.
12:38Hasn't he had another one where everybody thought he was all pissed after a press conference?
12:43I thought there was another one that he was like, no, I wasn't mad.
12:46Does he not have the power that maybe we all thought he did in terms of the war room?
12:51Well, if it's to be believed, if it's to be, and I would imagine Ty Simpson is telling
12:55the truth, but Ty Simpson was on SiriusXM.
12:57What was it, this morning?
12:58Either this morning or last night and said he had never met Sean McVay, which is, if
13:03that's true, that is bananas to take a quarterback 30th overall who's never met your head coach.
13:09Especially that one, who's one of the most influential dudes in the league running offenses,
13:13calling plays, and developing quarterbacks.
13:16Yes, I think they had a lot of fun making that Friday recreation, which took the cap to
13:20the Rams team.
13:21That was absolutely incredible, but I don't know if the vibes are quite as good down there.
13:27You could cut the tension with a knife in that.
13:29I mean, a lot of people who were in the room said it was one of the most awkward experiences
13:32they have seen in a press conference of that.
13:35And I think if you're Sean McVay, you're saying, we're trying to win Super Bowls right now.
13:38We got Matt Stafford coming back.
13:40Let's go.
13:41And we're going to take a quarterback that, you know, he basically said he's going to
13:43compete with Stetson Bennett.
13:45I mean, McVay mentioned Stetson Bennett and Jimmy Garoppolo and how important he was to
13:50this team.
13:50And then said, oh, yeah, well, now we got this guy who I guess is going to come compete
13:53with him.
13:54It was wild.
13:55Nathan, did the Cowboys get the best player in the draft?
14:00I'm a big Caleb Downs guy.
14:01So I think when it's all said and done, is that quite possible?
14:05Absolutely.
14:06Absolutely.
14:06I think that he's a perennial pro bowler.
14:09I think he's one of the guys that, you know, I didn't want the Browns to go defense because
14:14I just think our needs on offense are so glaring and our defense obviously is very, very solid.
14:17I think today's a nice day to, you know, get somebody on the defensive side while still
14:20adding to that offense.
14:23But Caleb Downs, I would have had absolutely no problem.
14:25I think he's he is tremendous.
14:28I think he's just he is just a great football player who's going to make your team better.
14:32So for the Dallas Cowboys to be able to really not do much and they gave up, I think, two
14:37fives to move up and get Caleb Downs and they get two fours back to move back a few spots
14:42and still got who they wanted at 23 before the Browns.
14:45Uh, I think that was a very good draft for, for the Dallas Cowboys.
14:49Nathan, thank you very much.
14:50I'll see you this afternoon and we'll be talking to everybody tonight for night two of the draft.
14:56I can't wait, mon frere.
14:57Let's go.
14:58Let's go.
14:59Indeed.
14:59My friend, Nathan's a girl Browns radio analyst on the make it right.
15:04Call Kyle, right.
15:05Hotline.
15:05All right.
15:05What'd you think of the draft?
15:07What did you, has people, have people warmed up to Casey Concepcion and, and Spencer
15:12Funno, they can't help it.
15:14They can't help but to, right?
15:15Like you're still a Browns fan.
15:17You want them to do well, don't you?
15:18And you know, you're going to see him.
15:19He's going to be speedy.
15:21He's going to dazzle in camp.
15:22You know, for a fact that dude is going to catch the ball.
15:25And of course, camp isn't all that physical.
15:27He's going to be running all over the place and just housing two punt returns all year when
15:32that has been such a need, a desperate need for us to get something going in special teams.
15:37I think people will fall in love with that.
