00:16I'm doing wonderful. Let's stop the exchanging of pleasantries and let's get right down to it.
00:21Who do you think is going to end up being the starter this year?
00:25That's a great question. It's a great question. Every's right out of the gate. Why mess around?
00:30It's a no spin zone, man. It's what we do.
00:33No spin zone whatsoever. I think it will be that's the big storyline.
00:37That's going to be the most fascinating thing right about this training camp.
00:41I've kind of maintained all along that I think that going into when they report the quarterbacks do on Thursday,
00:48going into the first training camp practice a week from that, I'm sorry, on Wednesday,
00:53I think that Deshaun Watson has a slight edge right now, but it's right now.
00:58I think that you've got to see these guys play some football. You've got to see some live rushes.
01:03You've got to see some real football and understand where he is.
01:06Deshaun Watson looks very good throwing the football on air so far.
01:09His arm looks strong. His body looks great. You can tell that his mobility is back.
01:13Is it where it was in 2020? No, in terms of the mobility, but his arm looks very good.
01:17He's made good decisions with the football. Has he missed some throws?
01:20Of course, both quarterbacks have, but if you look at the completion percentages that came out of that OTA and
01:25minicamp period,
01:26they're so much higher than we have seen from Browns quarterbacks at this point, both Deshaun and Shador.
01:31And Shador has made big, big strides. And I think, you know, when you look at it, there's two ways
01:35to look at it.
01:36Who gives me the best chance to win immediately?
01:38And I believe that's ultimately where Todd Munkin is going to go with this.
01:43And then there's what's the best for the organization.
01:45The best thing for the organization, obviously, is for Shador Sanders, who's a fifth-round pick under that contract for
01:49two more years,
01:50to take the bull by the horns, become the guy that many people, myself included,
01:55thought had the ability to be a first-round pick back in the draft in 2025, and lead your franchise.
02:00Now, Deshaun Watson has done it at the NFL level, albeit not in quite some time.
02:06And so that's kind of the mystery of this.
02:08What kind of leap can Shador Sanders make to capitalize on the flashes we saw in his rookie season?
02:13And then what kind of a leap, obviously, can Deshaun Watson make from not having played football in a while?
02:17I think it's going to be very telling once we see these guys in live action.
02:21A lot of people can throw the ball and look very effective kind of in these passing camps.
02:25That's the whole goal of it, right?
02:26So we need to see football.
02:28But right now, I would say I think they're both very much in the quarterback competition.
02:32I think it very much is a quarterback competition.
02:35And I would say going into it, a slight edge to Deshaun Watson at this time.
02:39But that could change rapidly.
02:41I think it's important, though, that Todd Monk can identify as the person he wants to be the quarterback quickly.
02:46Not too quick, right?
02:48And that's the balance that he's going to have to find in his first time as a head coach.
02:51But so that you get that quarterback, that person, all the reps, get them the timing with the receivers, and
02:57get this thing going.

03:01So I was a big proponent of bringing in Deshaun Watson years ago.
03:05And that kind of blew up in my face.
03:07Stage 12 for you.
03:08And all of them.
03:09Like many of your other opinions.
03:10And a lot of other people's faces.
03:13Children, please.
03:14Well, I thought he was a top five quarterback in the NFL when they got him.
03:19The guy I saw in Cleveland looked like he didn't belong in the league.
03:23And I know injuries are part of it, too.
03:26But can Todd Monk can and this staff identify where things went wrong with Deshaun Watson, maybe with Quincy Avery,
03:37and put it back together somehow?
03:41Todd Monk can was brought here to get this offense going.
03:44I mean, he will tell you that in the plainest English that is possible and probably in some phrases that
03:48are not as suitable for the air right now.
03:51Todd Monk can be brought here to do that.
03:52I would say that if Todd Monk were not the head coach, that if there were no coaching change, that
03:57we're not even talking about Deshaun Watson right now.
03:59So Todd Monk can see something in Deshaun Watson that he believes he can be successful with.
04:03Todd Monk has been successful with a variety of different styles of quarterback everywhere that he has been, whether it
04:08be in the NFL, whether it be at Georgia.
04:10I mean, you think about Stetson Bennett at Georgia to Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens stylistically.
04:14They could not be more different.
04:16So I think Todd Monk has a respect from what he had seen of Deshaun Watson in the National Football
04:21League.
04:21That's what his belief is.
04:23And then the other part of it is whoever the quarterback is, is surrounded by, in my opinion, the most
04:30talent certainly we've had in the wide receiver room since we had Odell and Jarvis back in 2018, 2019.
04:36But maybe from a depth standpoint and Hollywood Higgins then, this is a good group and it's a good young
04:43group.
04:43You know, Jerry Judy, obviously a Pro Bowler two years ago, last year did not have a great season.
04:47He was dealing with a lot of things.
04:48You bring in Concepcion, you bring in Denzel Boston.
04:51Isaiah Bond has had a very good offseason.
04:53That kid can run.
04:54Harold Fan and Judkins, you've got young skill talent around this quarterback that I think is going to help elevate
04:59them.
04:59But obviously the belief is that in Deshaun Watson and that Todd Monk and both of them individually think that
05:05they can work together.
05:06They're excited about working together and we'll see what that looks like.
05:09And I think one thing on Deshaun Watson and certainly a lot of it was his own doing, the things
05:15that happened off of the field.
05:17But I think people look at, you know, the physical performance mentally that took a huge toll on him.
05:23I'm not saying that now that he is, you know, in a better head space, that that's going to lead
05:28to better things on the football field.
05:30But I do think that whatever chance there is, the greatest what if to me with Deshaun Watson was what
05:35if he didn't get hurt coming off that second half,
05:37come from behind when in Baltimore, where it felt like he got his mojo back.
05:41We never found out the shoulder injury shoulder wasn't the same even going into the next season.
05:45And on we go.
05:46But I think physically he's in a good place.
05:48Mentally, he's in a good place.
05:49He's got a great coach.
05:50He's got a good supporting cast.
05:51And I think that that will give him an opportunity to realize whatever potential he has.
05:56What percentage of that from 2020?
05:59That's we don't know the answer to that.
06:01But I think he's in a good position.
06:03On the other side, I would say for Shador Sanders, same thing is true.
06:06You've got a football coach in Todd Munkin who is an excellent offensive mind who works very well with quarterbacks.
06:11And you've got that talent around him.
06:13And Shador continues to work hard, work like a sword, like a sponge, all of those things.
06:17So we'll see.
06:18I think that's going to be fascinating because if we can see the kind of efficiency that we saw in
06:23the early part of the offseason,
06:24once things get ramped up and you get a little bit more of an edge to the defense,
06:29I think that will be very encouraging for Browns fans.
06:31I think a lot of people, at least for me, and I don't know for you guys,
06:33when I talk to people, I tell people, oh, how many games are we going to win?
06:37How, what's it going to, blah, blah, blah.
06:38I don't know the answer to that.
06:39But what I do believe fully is that we are going to be a lot more fun to watch on
06:44offense than we have been in quite some time.
06:46And I think that that gives a lot of people at least hope or encouragement that the product that they
06:51watch is going to be an enjoyable watch every Sunday.
06:53And I think that has a lot to do with Todd Munkin.
06:55I think it has a lot to do with what they've done at that supporting cast.
06:58And then it's going to ultimately depend on just how high that ceiling is on what you get out of
07:02the quarterbacks,
07:03either Sean Watson or Shredor Sanders.

07:07Why wouldn't you mention Mike Majakian?
07:10Why did you have to mention Quincy Avery?
07:12He's not the head quarterback coach of the Browns.
07:14Isn't that who he's been working with?
07:15Okay, that's his personal quarterback coach, but they all have personal quarterback coaches.
07:19I was surmised to say he works more with his personal quarterback coach than anybody with the Browns.
07:24Well, that's your opinion.
07:25Don't be putting that on Nathan.
07:26I don't know, but Mike Majakian is the quarterback coach.
07:29I didn't say anything about that.

07:31Mike Majakian is the quarterback coach.

07:32Matt Baker is the assistant quarterback's coach.

07:37And Mike Majakian, obviously, goes back.
07:40Been a coach for over 30 years.
07:41And when you watch the practices, he is very hands-on with these quarterbacks.
07:46And so is Todd.
07:47Todd is over there a lot with the quarterbacks.
07:50But Majakian came here to do this job for one reason, and that is to work with Todd Munkin.
07:54Because as he said to me, you give Todd Munkin, you know, a room with some guys in the wide
07:58receiver room, he's going to get quarterbacks playing at a high level.
08:01He was excited to be a part of that.
08:03And let's not forget, for those fans of the Central Michigan Chippewas, he was, Mike Majakian
08:07was there when they had Dan Lefevre and they had Antonio Brown, and we're setting a lot
08:11of records.
08:11So he knows a little bit about offensive football in the Midwest.
08:14Nathan's, oh, go ahead.
08:15Run the tape if you want, Owen.
08:17I asked Andrew Barry specifically about this last time we had him on.
08:22I think I asked Todd Munkin about it, too, about how they work with the personal quarterback
08:25coaches to make sure there is alignment, because you certainly would want alignment between
08:30all these individuals.
08:31I actually remember you did.
08:33Can I ask another question to him or no?
08:35Okay.

08:42No, he just thinks that he can conjure these things into thin air, and Owen can just make
08:47them happen like he's some sort of Merlin in there.
08:49That's not how it goes.

08:58Who do you think is going to be?

09:01Who do you think is going to be wide receiver number one by the end of the season?
09:05Not week one.
09:06I mean by week 18.
09:07Who do you think emerges as wide receiver one?
09:12Great question.
09:15My answer is going to be not what you expected, but then I'll answer the question you actually
09:19asked.
09:19I think Harold Fannin is going to be the most consistent target in this passing game week
09:24in and week out.
09:25So, in some ways, could you say that Harold Fannin is the wide receiver one on this team?
09:29Hell yeah, you can.
09:30You can say whatever you want.
09:32So, Harold Fannin is the name that comes to mind immediately.
09:34I think that you are going to have a lot of guys, and I think there are four at the
09:41wide
09:41receiver position in particular, that are going to contribute a lot in a variety of ways.
09:45I think Jerry Judy right now, if you said pencil and who would be the number one receiver
09:49beginning this season, I think it's Jerry Judy.
09:51He's had a very good camp.
09:52Again, was dealing with a lot of things last year that, you know, not necessarily were made
09:55public, and hopefully he's back in a good space, and he seems to be so.
10:00Isaiah Bond is going to be the home run hitter.
10:02I'm sure about 18 yards to catch last year.
10:04Got behind the defense every single week.
10:05He's worked really hard to improve kind of his short and intermediate game as well, and
10:09I like him.
10:10But the guy that, Casey Concepcion, I think it's going to be really fun to see when the
10:14pads come on, because part of what makes him very special is what he does once the
10:17ball's in his hands.
10:18And so in some of these passing camps, that doesn't necessarily show up, where he takes
10:22something that looks like it's going to be a five-yard play and ends up being a 50-yard
10:25touchdown.
10:26So I like what you get from him.
10:27But if you're going to kind of peg me down and say the one guy right now, it would be
10:31Denzel Boston.
10:32And that's based solely on what we've seen in the offseason.
10:35He's got the size.
10:37He's got the speed.
10:38He's got the route running ability.
10:40You throw it near him.
10:41He catches it.
10:42His ability to go up and over defenders, all of it.
10:44I like everything that I've seen from Denzel Boston.
10:47So I'm not taking anything away from anybody else, but what I've seen from Denzel Boston
10:51has impressed me.
10:52It's one of those things.
10:53He walks on the field, you go, that looks like a number one receiver to me.
10:56And then the play has backed it up.
10:58Now, I will say Denzel Boston really caught my attention early on when he did a double
11:04move on Tyson Campbell.
11:05Now, that was the only, only ball that Tyson Campbell gave up critically in the entirety
11:10of the offseason.
11:11All of the other work and all of the other highlights that we saw were on the other side
11:16of that field.
11:16And that's one of the reasons that the Browns, I think, still need to address that cornerback
11:20position.
11:20They bring in Damari Mathis, who was a starter back in 2022 for the Broncos, former fourth
11:24round pick.
11:25Yeah.
11:25But we haven't really seen much of him recently and missed all of last year with an ACL.
11:29But behind Denzel Ward and Tyson Campbell, it's thin for the Browns.
11:33That makes me very, very nervous.
11:35But to answer your question, I think, fan and then Denzel Boston, I want to see it continue
11:38with the pads on all of that, but Denzel Boston was probably, to me, the most impressive guy
11:43on the field offensively in the offseason program.
11:47What do you think of the clips they used of you in the documentary series, Quarterback?
11:53I thought that some of the timing was interesting, but nonetheless, you know, it's always good
11:59when they're able to splice you in there.
12:01It makes you think that they at least enjoyed it.
12:03I thought what you had to say was somewhat relevant.
12:04So I've only through episode two, I know that I made an appearance in episode three
12:09as well, or my voice did.
12:11Your voice is all over.
12:12It's great.
12:13But I've enjoyed this show in particular because I think part of it is, you know, Cam Ward was
12:19a guy that we were invested in as Browns fans.
12:22And I know something that the Browns thought very highly of last year.
12:25And it's cool to see him.
12:26Jaden Daniels, unfortunately, I have to see what he goes through in that second season after
12:30that awesome rookie year.
12:31And then, of course, we know Baker very, very well, and we know Joe Flacco very well.
12:35So it's kind of one of those shows where, from a Cleveland standpoint, I think it's
12:40got, you have kind of ties, certainly strong and deep ties to Baker, Joe Flacco, and then
12:45a little bit for those who were kind of involved in the process in that draft leading up to
12:48the 2025 draft with Cam Ward.
12:52So there's a lot of kind of connection there, which I think is pretty cool to watch that
12:54show.
12:54I like that one much better than any of the other iterations that they've done.
12:58And I think quarterback's so good, and you see what those guys go through and why that
13:02is the toughest position in all of professional sports, and the most important.

13:07Nathan chose this one over road tested.
13:09I did not see that coming.

13:25using their personal coaches or not.
13:27This is from May 9th on the show.
13:29We've had guys that, if they've asked, in today's day and age, it feels like everybody's
13:33got one.
13:34They've got a quarterback coach they like to go to, which is great.
13:37I think the game has improved greatly with whether it's offensive line tutors, as I would
13:43say, or wide receiver tutors or quarterback guys.
13:45I think just over the last 10 or 15 years, even when I was at Georgia, and you'd see
13:51younger players come to summer camp, and how much better they are at throwing the football
13:55and receiver route running.
13:56And that's a credit to those that work with guys when we don't have an opportunity to
14:00work with them, which stinks.
14:02I wish we got them year-round, but we don't.
14:03And it's awesome that our guys want to go to those guys and improve.
