00:12yeah I got a little bit better weather it sounds like than than back home right now who do you
00:16think's had a better week has it been Shador Sanders or Deshaun Watson or if you want to
00:20say Dylan Gabriel go ahead and throw him in and if you want to call the competition now go ahead
00:24yes that's fine I am not going to call the competition now I think that I don't know
00:31you can say somebody's had a better week this has kind of been my read on it the whole time
00:35is that you know Deshaun Watson has been the best from the operation standpoint everything that
00:40happens before the ball is snapped Shador's made great progress and it's easy to see
00:44over the course of the camp Dylan Gabriel also has been very good in that operation standpoint
00:49once the ball has been snapped I think Shador's been the most consistent of the quarterbacks
00:54and thus you would say then the best whereas Deshaun has been a little bit more up and down
00:58a couple of days ago he had that great day where you were like wow this is what we've been
01:04waiting
01:04for but you need those to stack you need those to become the trend rather than the outlier so I
01:12don't
01:12think I think it is way too early to call it I think that for Shador if he focuses on
01:17narrowing
01:17the gap and everything that happens before the ball snaps I think that he has a very good chance
01:22to end up being the starter I think if Deshaun continues to have those you know more days like
01:27that once the ball is snapped then he has a very good chance to be the starter I think it's
01:31still too
01:31early to call and I think Dylan Gabriel has really cemented the fact that you know what a lot of
01:35people
01:36have thought he's done a better job of keeping his eyes down the field he's done a better job of
01:39pushing
01:39the ball down the field that this is a guy who's going to be in the league for a long
01:43time and you
01:44know probably at some point he'll be a starter somewhere kind of like a Colt McCoy or Case Keenan
01:49but this is going to be a long-term and successful backup in the NFL and I think that's kind
01:53of been
01:53the reviews of Dylan so far so you can't call anything they both have had their moments uh and
02:00again I think Shador has been the most consistent once the ball is snapped which is by the way when
02:03the
02:03game of football is played but as we know the emphasis Todd Munkin places on the operation and
02:09getting in and out of the huddle and doing the things that avoid what he would call you know bad
02:14football that's where Deshaun has been a little bit better all right Nathan if you could without
02:19worrying about feeling the wrath of a certain fan base can you tell us the good and bad of both
02:25these
02:25quarterbacks and what you've been able to distinguish between the two of them yeah so for I mean I think
02:32I laid out kind of in that opening answer but I would say for Deshaun you know the high level
02:39stuff
02:39is still very high level and the arm looks very good it looks very live unfortunately the accuracy
02:45has been inconsistent and then the play from day to day has been inconsistent I think initially after
02:51some of those early interceptions he got a little bit gun shy Shador has done a great job of pushing
02:55the ball down the field all camp long he's done a good job of kind of layering his throws in
03:00and when he
03:00throws with touch he's thrown some beautiful beautiful balls I think for Shador it's still
03:05kind of speeding up that process getting the ball out a little bit quicker and more on time
03:09consistently but both have had honestly I think for what you were expecting out of them I think that
03:17you need as I said more consistency from Deshaun but the high level stuff the stuff that's tantalized
03:21and says oh yeah this is the guy who led the league in passing in 2020 we saw glimpses we
03:25need to see
03:25much more than glimpses and then with Shador he just continues to improve and so that's good and
03:31his ability as I said to really layer the ball in down the field and make some of the tight
03:34window
03:35throws I think has been very impressive as well all right this is a different question but still of the
03:40same same mode who who would you who would you start across your offensive line right now if you had
03:48a
03:48game this Sunday that is a tough one um I think that you know Spencer Fano was drafted to be
03:56your
03:56left tackle so I'm going to put him at left tackle Zion Johnson's your left guard I think we still
04:01have
04:01to see you know can Brailsford or can Whipler win that center job which would push you know over to
04:08right guard it would push Elton Jenkins now Elton Jenkins has not played right guard and I think
04:12that's something that should be noted yes he is a two-time Pro Bowl guard but that was as a
04:16left guard
04:17the only time he's ever played right guard I believe was in a pre-season game years ago in
04:20Green Bay so I don't know that that's perfectly set in stone so if he's more comfortable at center
04:26you play him at center and then at right guard KT Leveston has been in there uh the most recently
04:31Tevin Jenkins has been dealing with an injury Titus Howard's at right tackle now Titus Howard I know
04:35there's been some talk where people have been speculating could they move Titus Howard into right
04:40guard where he's played put DeJuan over there at right tackle because DeJuan's had I think by and large a
04:45pretty good camp yes there are some reps where Jared Burst has gotten the best of them but that's
04:48to be expected but I think by and large he has had a good camp and the goal is going
04:52to be to get the
04:52best five guys out there what that looks like I really don't know I do think ultimately the two
04:58things that you know for sure 100% in stone I think will be Afano at left tackle and DeJuan
05:03Johnson at
05:04left guard I really I think it's pretty close to Penn that Titus Howard will be your right tackle
05:10and then there's still work to do on the interior of that line Nathan Zaguro with us right now on
05:15the hotline so much has been talked about Jared Burst how he has truly become a leader like on day
05:23one yeah not to mention he's blowing up practice because he's been so electric what are your
05:28reasonable expectations for Burst at this stage and Jared Burst in the last you know edition of the
05:36NFL's top 100 was player number 35 he's been a pro bowler both of the seasons in the league with
05:41the defensive rookie of the year I think that it is a reasonable expectation that he will be a pro
05:45bowler once again I think that you know he's going to obviously you want his sack numbers to come up
05:49that's what people look at but I think he's going to be disruptive I think he's going to be one
05:53of the
05:53best you know stick edge defenders in the NFL and he is going to be an absolute leader for this
05:59team
05:59and a culture force and that's one of the things that's just been so apparent you saw the way Todd
06:04Munkin was gushing about him working with Spencer Fano after practice Jared Burst has come in and
06:10been a leader also Quincy Williams has come in and been a very vocal leader at the second level and
06:15has had a great camp in his own right but I think the expectation is that Jared Burst we have
06:19not seen
06:19the best of Jared Burst in his career and he's still been really really good I think the best is
06:23yet to
06:24come and I think the reason that I mean I'm sure you guys saw the clips of Trent McDuffie talking
06:29about
06:30it from the Rams perspective I mean that to me speaks volumes this was a team that just acquired
06:36the best non-quarterback in the sport a two-time defensive player of the year the best you know
06:41all-time sack leader in terms of single season the best sack getter in in Brown's history an automatic
06:47first ballot gold jacket Miles Garrett and they needed an hour to go through their their feelings
06:52about losing Jared Burst I mean that to me says the respect of your peers and then the ability to
06:58back
06:58it up on the field Jared Burst I think is going to be one of those guys that when we
07:02move into the
07:02new facility the new uh indoor Huntington Bank field in 2029 his picture is going to be all over
07:07that banners all over and people are going to be thrilled that he's you know one of the leaders
07:11and cornerstones of this Cleveland Browns franchise we got the great one Nathan Zaguro joining us here

07:20the
07:21Browns first preseason game not mentioning any quarterbacks who are your pet cats
07:29oh that's a good I like that you know I always love the good pet cat question and you know
07:33I'm
07:33always going to go to the receiver position of course I am I have to and I don't know if
07:40it's
07:40even fair it's like probably get in line if you want to have Denzel Boston as a pet cat but
07:45both he
07:46both he and Casey have been outstanding and that has been really really good to see kind of maybe on
07:52a
07:52little bit of a lower level there are a couple guys that I really want to see in game action
07:56and at tight end that's Carson Ryan he's had a very nice camp he gets open he catches the football
08:01they're using him in a lot of different ways so I'm excited to see how that translates to a game
08:05and then at wide receiver as well you know Luke Floria has had a great camp all he does is
08:12get
08:12open and catch the football and so I want to see can that continue in games and then there's a
08:16guy
08:17Cole Wilson who is not a big receiver but was the leading receiver at Baylor last year or
08:22amongst the leading receivers at Baylor last year and he just has an ability and one-on-ones to make
08:27people look foolish and so again I don't know what it's going to look like in a game but I'm
08:32intrigued to see what he looks like at the running back position Amani Marshall I think has had a very
08:37nice camp and curious to see how he goes because that's a real battle who's going to be the third
08:41running back on this team behind Quinshawn Judkins and Dylan Sampson and I think you know he and
08:45Rocket Sand are certainly competing for that but I think Amani Marshall's had a nice camp as well
08:50uh Nathan uh Todd Munkin when you're watching him conduct a practice what have you noticed um
08:57outside of the obvious that this seems to be a little more communication
09:02yeah he's got an intensity about him and he's he's a teacher he is an absolute teacher on the field
09:09and I know that at some point there's gonna be an NFL films mic'd up that comes out about him
09:13but you
09:13will see he is a teacher and he is working and he works very closely with the quarterbacks
09:18and he works very closely with the wide receivers and he is very specific the the specificity in
09:25what he wants on certain let's call it routes or in certain timing or the way that steps are run
09:31or
09:31the way that somebody's shoulders are when they're coming in and or out of a break it reminds me of
09:37Kyle Shanahan I haven't seen somebody with that level of specificity and attention to detail and
09:43demanding rigorous commitment to getting it exactly right since Kyle Shanahan was here and obviously
09:49we know Kyle's been a very successful head coach in the National Football League but that's the thing
09:53that really jumps out to me it's the intensity it is the lack of tolerance for garbage and it is
09:59the
09:59teaching and the attention and the focus and the emphasis and the demand that things are done
10:05exactly the way they want them to be done what is what coach do you think has the toughest job
10:12on
10:12this with the as far as the assistance what coach do you think has the toughest job is it tough
10:17is it
10:17George Warhop is it the secondary just because you got new fresh fresh faces in there but you have a
10:23standard to uphold because of how good this defense has been in the past I think if you're looking
10:28at it from whose room you know who has the most to do given what they've got in the room
10:34I think
10:34it's probably Brandon Lynch with the cornerbacks or Jason Parver with the linebackers because the
10:38reality of the situation is behind Tyson Campbell and Denzel Ward you know yes we brought in Damari
10:44Mathis but he hasn't really played since 2022 in terms of a big role we don't have people with NFL
10:50experience at those positions we don't have guys who have taken a lot of snaps at the quarterback
10:55position so that's going to be on Brandon Lynch who's one of the best in the business to coach them
10:58up
10:58the same is true at linebacker when you get past Carson Swessinger and Quincy Williams I think you
11:03maybe have something like 500 snaps combined in the NFL in that linebacker combined and so he's and he's
11:10the he's the right guy for the job he's got Easton Mascarenas Arnold already playing at a high level
11:14that's good to see but I think those two from a position kind of what they've got and the experience
11:19or lack thereof in their rooms that would be number those would be the top on the offensive side I
11:24think
11:24George Warhop has a tough job because we have got to get this offensive line going and he is
11:29you know Joe Thomas absolutely loves him and thinks that he is the right guy for the job so we're
11:33very
11:33fortunate to have him in there and then the other one I'd say is honestly the wide receiver coach
11:39Christian Jones because he's got a room with a lot of talent but as I said Todd Munkin is very
11:45very
11:46demanding and hands-on with those wide receivers and so Christian Jones who was the tight end coach last
11:51year spent time in a variety of roles in the offense with the Giants and then obviously with
11:55us last year he's got to be able to to take what Todd wants and get that imparted on his
12:01guys in that
12:02room and as I said there's a high level of specificity and rigorous demands on how he wants
12:08things to be done in that room did you watch the Hall of Fame game last night I watched bits
12:14of it I
12:14thought Carson Beck looked really really good um but I did not watch the entirety of the Hall of Fame
12:19game I wouldn't expect you to watch the entirety of the Hall of Fame game it's just so weird to
12:23me
12:23that a lot of football guys like yeah we finally have football and then they groan about like okay
12:27we're done watching the football here it's like well wait a minute are you gonna are we like if you
12:31come to the natural conclusion of watching a preseason game that's fine but let's not start
12:35complaining about it here this it was fun I got to hear Drew Brees the whole deal I thought it
12:39was a
12:39good time yeah some football is better than no football that's for sure even if it is the Hall of
12:45Fame
12:45game yeah absolutely no I think had I been in a more normal environment and out at a at a
12:51local
12:51cantina I would have been able to take much more of it in um but it was fun to see
12:56it yeah it was
12:57fun football and by the way you know that's the first time in the history of the Hall of Fame

13:01both teams scored 30 that's fun offense is fun and seeing these young quarterbacks go out there and
13:06slinging around and run around and and have fun I like that so I've seen the highlights after the fact
13:11obviously but yeah I saw I saw a good chunk of the first half live and I will tell you
13:15I was I
13:15thought Carson Beck was impressive what do we expect to see and I hate I know we're going to
13:20probably talk to you next week about this but still we're a week over a week away what do we
13:24expect
13:24to see maybe next Saturday as far as personnel is involved yeah that's I mean Todd said the starters
13:30are going to play so I guess I would say I guess I would ask how long would we see
13:36different people
13:36how close of attention should we pay to the offensive line just because there's different guys
13:40probably in different spots I mean I think you should pay if any time that you have got the
13:47starters out there I think you should pay close attention to it because obviously if that will
13:51be very intentional on the part of Todd Bunkin so I would pay very close attention to it what that's
13:56going to look like at this point I don't know yet but I think you know pay attention to that
14:01and then
14:01coming off of that pay really close attention to uh Thursday August the 20th that is the joint practice
14:09with the Buffalo Bills I think that will be the biggest peek into where things actually stand
14:15that we will have this this offseason oh I like hearing that Nathan's a girl because that I was
14:20you beat me because I was going to go does he secretly wish he had an extra preseason that fourth
14:24preseason game but when you're talking about that joint practice like yep boom there it is that's why
14:28we have you for your expertise because that was great stuff Nathan thank you for the time I know I
