00:00and I do want to see Shador Sanders be the starting quarterback of this thing I am becoming
00:05increasingly alarmed though that this is now the second coaching staff in back-to-back off seasons
00:11saying a lot of the same things about Shador and I didn't love on Saturday that he was alternating
00:16reps with the twos with Dylan Gabriel and today was Gabriel working with the twos again so it
00:21feels like Gabriel might be the backup quarterback independent of what happens with the starting
00:27quarterback conversation competition and if that means Watson is QB one and Gabriel's QB two by
00:34default you don't believe that you know you do not believe that Dylan Gabriel is going to be the
00:38backup quarterback to start week one now maybe in a world where Shador won as the one and then
00:42Dylan Gabriel number two and then they just kind of tell Deshaun to hang out with a clipboard because
00:46they know they pissed him off now and that makes some sense but you cannot sell me on the idea
00:51that Deshaun Watson would be quarterback number one and then Dylan Gabriel be number two and
00:56Shador QB three but but based on it doesn't make sense based on their actions though well their
01:01actions today was he was Shador Sanders was QB number one today and Dylan Gabriel got like seven
01:06passes while both Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders had in the 20s like their actions today tell you
01:12that the plan is still on course it's a two quarterback battle right now and the two quarterbacks are
01:16Deshaun and Shador Sanders and despite what happened on Saturday obviously Munkin is right at that wrong
01:22is he not Shador would not be QB one today if Deshaun Watson had the job locked up that would
01:27make no sense as a head coach to do that maybe I'm just living in my fears with this I
01:31think
01:31Jonathan maybe that's where the flip-flop accusation started I think you might because I do want to see
01:37Shador start I still think that's the cleanest path forward for the Browns it just makes no sense if
01:43Deshaun ends up starting it makes it makes zero sense as to why that would happen outside of the idea
01:47that the Browns have these blinders up with Deshaun and they want to try to right some wrong from four
01:52years ago but in the future it just makes zero sense to have Deshaun Watson you gain nothing by
01:56having Deshaun Watson play football this year you're not going to extend them you're not going to give
02:01another contract he's worth nothing to you beyond this year it makes absolutely zero sense for Deshaun
02:07Watson to start week one and that's why Jonathan when we did the pre-show meeting I really wanted to
02:11get
02:11off my chest today that I can't repeat enough that the one thing I feel strongest about in this
02:16quarterback competition forget about the names forget about where they stand on the depth chart
02:20the real loser of this competition is the Browns fans the same Browns fans that have waited for this
02:27franchise quarterback since the team returned in 1999 for an organization that's so obsessed
02:34over quarterback they've tried everything they've tried drafting them number one overall they've tried
02:38drafting them late they've tried trading three first round picks and giving a guaranteed 230 million
02:44dollars to a guy that was an MVP candidate and came with a ton of baggage and then the absolute
02:50poop hit the fan and we're left with this we're left with this what is this we're doing a quarterback
02:57competition for what cause because all of these insiders literally all of them from Schefter Garofalo
03:03when we just played rap sheet in the lead yeah they're saying that Watson's going to be the starting
03:08quarterback and all three of them aren't missing on that I'm sorry they're not these insiders they
03:13know they know that Watson's going to be the starter nobody wants to say it nobody wants to be honest
03:20with the Browns fan who just wants to see the team win these same people weren't saying this last
03:27Tuesday it's not and it's not as if Deshaun Watson has done no they weren't Schefter and Garofalo have
03:31been saying it since the spring that Watson's going to be the starter it's not as if so much
03:36has changed in these six days since I myself watched Deshaun Watson be unplayable on that
03:42practice field it's not as if so much has drastically changed and you want to tell me that
03:46Chinor didn't go out and grab it I'll listen to that you want to tell me and I've admitted to
03:50this
03:50I was shocked that Deshaun's arm looked as good as it did it was not a problem with whether or
03:55not he
03:55had enough velocity on it but you go out to these practices and enough of you fans have been out
03:59there
03:59his arm looks good it just it's nowhere close is the problem it's wildly inaccurate and his
04:06decision making is still absolutely awful and that's what it was in 2024 and that's why like
04:11I can't sit here in good faith and actually have a real honest conversation about these quarterbacks
04:17because now I've got two coaching staffs with the quarterback that I like and the quarterback that
04:21I would play telling you for whatever reason that he's having these pre-snap issues and that he's
04:27having a hard time communicating with the offensive line and reading the yeah but Deshaun had those
04:30problems too today and Deshaun you could argue it's worse he the last time I saw Deshaun in 2024 when
04:36he was fully healthy he was dancing into sacks he was not reading defenses at all it wasn't just bad
04:43Jonathan it was comically bad like there was nothing you could do other than laugh at the tv and there
04:47were real debates at the time before he got injured at what point do you have to just take him
04:53off the
04:53field despite the contract at what point do you just have to bench him but for whatever reason
04:58this is what the Browns have done to us it's like torture they've given us a guy that has not
05:03been
05:04good in six years versus a guy that for whatever reason they're not letting have a true full opportunity
05:10because they continue to move the goal posts for Shador last year it was processing speed that was the
05:15big thing if he could speed up his processing like the supercomputer dylan gabriel then Shador would have an
05:21opportunity this year it's cadence all right so ask yourself this operation why why why are they
05:27doing it this way I I contend that this it's because it's all about 2027 to them that's like
05:32my thought process and it's not unique it's not very different it's just it's not it's not accepted
05:36on this show in particular but it is what it is is that they're they're not 2026 doesn't matter to
05:42them the same way 2027 does and if they really wanted to make an effort for 2026 maybe they would
05:47have done things a little bit differently but they're just seeing that their end of the rope
05:50with Deshaun who has to be on the team because you can't really do anything until March of 2027
05:54with that contract anyway so he's here and then Shador's got built up enough with the fans last
05:59year you spent a fifth round pick on him you might as well see what he can do and and
06:03so you just kind
06:03of find yourself in this situation despite what Jared Verse wants to tell uh any media member that
06:08will listen right they're just kind of existing for 2026 it's a lazy river ride just go down it that's
06:14what it's essentially what they're telling you and it's what it feels like and that's why like
06:19the the loser in this really is the Browns fans because we have to sit whether we will we like
06:25it or we don't and we could go into the season understanding I'm going into the season understanding
06:29that the only quarterback that probably is back in 2027 is Talon Green yet still I have to sit down
06:37and watch 20 of these games well we don't know that uh because the 2027 quarterback here's what here's
06:42what I'd say if Shador plays and let's say he can play all 17 and you win seven eight games
06:47something
06:47like that I'm not saying Shador is the quarterback the following year what I am saying is that in
06:51in 2027 you can draft a quarterback and then maybe you don't start him right away maybe you do a
06:56Jacoby Brissett Drake May situation where for five six seven games whatever that is you let that court
07:01you let Shador play into then the new quarterback and then you kind of go there you can even do
07:05the
07:05Patrick Mahomes Alex Smith thing if you want sure and let that rookie quarterback sit for a little bit
07:10like there like there are things that you can do with Shador Sanders that exist beyond this season
07:14you can't do any of those things with Deshaun Watson you can't they don't they don't exist with
07:19but they're actively considering playing him again yeah yeah they are like they're actively they made
07:24one of the worst deals in NFL history like they're ushering in this new chapter of football like like
07:28this is the fourth offense that Deshaun Watson is going to play under during his time with the
07:34Browns how many offensive coordinators need to fall at the stake for this guy he can't play anymore
07:40there's your answer I'm very confused for an organization that's so obsessed with data they
07:47follow the data at every twist and turn I know they got blinders for Deshaun they do might start
07:51a guy that has not shown one positive data point in six seasons yeah it's funny you know you said
07:57something to the fact of how Browns fans are the real loser in this and I do feel like a
08:00loser for
08:00the upcoming year don't get that mistaken I do uh but I don't feel like a loser big picture and
08:04this is
08:05where the Browns have a selling point that lets them kind of take the it's not even a poison pill
08:10but
08:10let him take this this year that is just going to maybe not be the greatest thing we've ever seen
08:15even if it ends up six seven wins somewhere in that range and we can argue whether that's
08:19successful or not that could it's a completely different conversation I look at six or seven
08:23wins as an absolute it's a bad year there's no I argue that I argue that with Joe Thomas okay
08:28guess what was the point yeah exactly because what is the point uh but I don't here's the the trick
08:33that they've been able to pull off and this is impressive but it's by them is that I I don't
08:38feel
08:38like I'm wasting my time with this team I don't feel like I'm a loser watching these young talent
08:43because of the young talent yeah because the guys in year one and year two and watching them progress
08:47and watching what this team can be there is something to it sure well they're building this
08:52in a way that is different than they did in the past this isn't one in 31 this is different
08:56there
08:56are things I can reach out and touch tangibly touch see all sorts of different things about this
09:02Browns team that are going to make a difference and are going to be around in 28 and 29 and
09:0830 in
09:08a way that they don't have to really matter this year so I was going to wait to do this
09:13till till
09:13later in the preseason but oh I I think I'm going to do it now I feel good okay all
09:18right you ready
09:18to go you got later in the preseason enough time to flip flop on this I I've got I've got
09:23my I've got
09:23my right now August 10th prediction for how this Brown season goes okay all right Deshaun Watson's
09:29going to start at quarterback there is a potential that it could look worse than it's ever looked
09:34before because when he opened training camp he looked really bad and he's he's course corrected
09:39we'll give him that credit he's put together a couple of nice I mean at this point that's the
09:43expectation not anything it's the expectation is that he looks really bad so I I think Watson is
09:48your QB1 okay the organization will buy goodwill that they probably do not deserve five or six
09:55weeks into the season and they'll put Shador on the field and I think it'll actually look decent
09:59enough so for another five or six quick hook on Watson is the point probably I agree with that I
10:05think he gets a very short amount of time and he's either hurt or he's really bad and they have
10:09to try
10:09something else at that point okay and then we see Shador and I actually think that could keep the car
10:14on the road for a little bit I don't think they'll trade Shador I'm not going to give into that
10:18craziness and the reason why I don't think that they will because I don't right now and I don't
10:23believe in Deshaun and I don't know that they could genuinely believe in Deshaun as a data-driven
10:28organization that has no data since 2019 that says that this guy can play yeah um so I think we'll
10:35see Shador by week five you're off Dylan Gabriel's quarterback two though in this and I think Dylan's
10:43probably QB3 in this though because I think we see him at some point we probably see Taylor Green too
10:47and then we're on April and we're debating what quarterback that they should take at the you know
10:51first 10 picks of the 2027 NFL our buddy coach says if you're waiting until 2027 it won't happen
10:57then either you don't get to turn culture on and off when it's convenient that's not the point though
11:02that that implies back on and off exactly that implies that they have a choice they don't have
11:07a talent okay well you can you can you can build all the culture in the world if you don't
11:11have a
11:11talent it doesn't matter you can have a you can have 53 Tony Robbins it doesn't matter if you
11:15don't have enough talent on the field and that's the the part that they can't overcome this year
11:20they don't have enough talent on the field all this year maybe just all 53 guys just repeat
11:24every day we're not tanking we're not taking it's like politics if you say it enough and if you say
11:29it loud enough everybody will just take it as fact is that what we're supposed to be doing here
11:33here's the other part of that though we watched how many teams last year uh go from what was a
11:38bad
11:38team into all of a sudden being a good team we watched the four-win Patriots go from again a
11:43four-win
11:44team into the Super Bowl the following year Drake May existed both of those seasons we watched the
11:48Jaguars go from a four-win team to a 13-win team in one year we watched the Bears struggle
11:53mightily
11:53with Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson in year one win four or five games and then the following year
11:58double digits win a playoff game and all of a sudden they're the media's darling like I like we
12:03watched this happen and I'm not giving you references from 10 years ago I'm giving you
12:07in a two-year window the most recent two-year window we have we watched both the Bears the Jaguars
12:13and the Patriots again the Patriots just played in the Super Bowl last year all go from four or five
12:18win teams into double digit wins and postseason appearances like it's just it's not it's not
12:25crazy and it wasn't a culture fairy that came it's not a culture organization with a wand and said we're
12:30going to have a good culture now they drafted a quarterback in the first round exactly that was
12:34the secret sauce I can respect the idea of culture and what it takes and they're building
12:39components to it all but ultimately talent is the name of the game and talent is what's going to win
12:43and out and if the Browns getting their quarterback in 2027 if they get that guy that ends up being
12:49whatever you want to say this is as far as talent is concerned but a franchise quarterback guess what
12:55a lot of people all of a sudden going to be looking pretty good and then the parts of culture
12:58that
12:58people do like like oh Jared Verse yeah it always existed here well yeah Jared Verse I think is great
13:04for culture I think he's awesome Jared Verse can't overcome if I put 52 peewee football players and Jared
13:09Verse in the field it's not going to matter like the talent component the talent part of this is
13:14gotta play a major factor Nick
