The GBAG Nation broke down Bobby Belt's final mock draft, where he has Mansoor Delane as the pick at #12. They evaluated the high-risk, high-reward potential of a Maxx Crosby trade amid lingering health concerns, and more.
Transcript
00:00Bobby Belt posting his final mock draft. He's got Mansoor Delane going to the Cowboys at 12.
00:06It's surprising to me, the first corner off the board not going to 12.
00:09It's surprising to me that a corner as good as Delane will not go when other more flawed prospects at
00:16less premium positions are going to.
00:18I think Delane's got one of the highest floors in the entire draft.
00:22He's going to come in here and be the Cowboys' best corner, isn't he?
00:25I would think so, yeah. I love him.
00:27He's been my top guy for the entire process.
00:30He's one of these dudes that I just think he's so technically sad he can do everything you ask of
00:34him.
00:35We'll see what happens with Rebel.
00:36I think we were very high on him a year ago.
00:38Hopefully he can get healthy.
00:39I think Delane, he's a rookie, so I'm not going to put those expectations on him immediately,
00:44but I think he will be your best corner.
00:45I liked your Mod McCoy's tape from 2024 better, but the news today from Tom Pellicero,
00:51it's not the ACL.
00:53That thing obviously healed up quite well.
00:55Well, it's a bone plug, which I think is called the chondral graft,
00:59and that's why Brian's sources were saying you've got to look more at a Trayvon Diggs type of situation
01:05because that's basically the new generation microfracture surgery.
01:11Yep.
01:11It might never be the same.
01:14No, and you know what?
01:16Considering how bad Diggs came back, I would say the surgery does not appear to be an improvement
01:21or any sort of a miracle surgery because he was quite compromised,
01:26and for McCoy to be 15 months out from surgery and having to go back under the knife,
01:32that seems like his career might be in crisis or doomed to fail before it even gets going.
01:37So at 12, it's Delane.
01:39Then at 20, it's LSU's Keldrick Falk.
01:42We've talked a lot about him.
01:44Wouldn't be surprised if that's the pick.
01:46Auburn, right?
01:46Yeah, Auburn.
01:47Auburn.
01:47Auburn defense.
01:48What did I say?
01:49LSU.
01:49LSU, okay.
01:50And then at 92, it's Romello Height, the edge from Texas Tech.
01:56Are you, Zach, walk me through some Height conversation off-field stuff.
02:01Yeah, it might just be some maturity stuff.
02:02I mean, I know he didn't go through four different schools, but I think that there is a lot of
02:07momentum
02:08that he is not, if you talk with people at Romello Height's camp, that he's not going to make it
02:12past, like, the 50 to 60 range.
02:15So they think that there is a lot of love for Romello Height.
02:18I do think the Cowboys, and Bobby's been in on this, too, that I know he's mentioned on the draft,
02:22so I think he mocked him to the Cowboys in the third round.
02:24I just don't know that he's going to be there past the second.
02:27If you talk with people with Romello Height's agency, I mean, they think he's going to go pretty high at
02:32night, too.
02:32I mean, it's just a weird eval for me because he's so tall.
02:37I wonder about his ability to play low, to bend.
02:42He's also a 25-year-old.
02:43Yeah, he's old.
02:44He moves schools a lot.
02:46I don't think he's going to be able to stop the run.
02:48I just don't think he's a situational pass rusher.
02:52So maybe second or third round's a good spot for him.
02:55I didn't like him at all when it was the idea of maybe he could be a first-round pick
02:58very early in the draft process.
03:00I think in the third round, though, I would be intrigued enough about his length and his ability to get
03:06after the pass
03:06or to sort of look beyond some of my round one concerns with over Romello Height out there.
03:14He is, what, about 6'3", 6'4"?
03:16Tall, thin guy.
03:17I see him at 6'3", like 240, something like that.
03:20But, yeah, especially in the third round, if you're not getting your edge rusher earlier than that,
03:25then you know that you're trying to—and in this scenario, you get Falk, so you get the guy that can
03:29set the edge for you,
03:30but then all of a sudden you get a guy like Height.
03:32Like, you need a guy who can get after the passer.
03:34Even if you are just sort of a DPR-designated pass rusher guy,
03:39they need somebody who on passing downs can get out there and bring some juice.
03:42What would be your reaction if the pick is Monroe Freeling, left tackle from Georgia at 20?
03:48That was CBS Sports' Garrett Podell's.
03:52He did a mock designed to frustrate every fan base.
03:57So at 20, he sends you a Monroe Freeling, the tackle from Georgia.
04:01I'd be jacked.
04:02You know, I haven't talked much about it, I guess, since—
04:05That's probably where he needs to be taken.
04:07I wouldn't mind it at 20.
04:08But not at 6.
04:10No, not as a top 10 guy.
04:11Not at 4, 5, or 6.
04:13But at 20?
04:14Yeah.
04:14I think he's the best left tackle in the draft.
04:16I mean, he's going to need a little bit of development.
04:18You know, he's going to probably have some groin pains early on.
04:20But I think there's a lot to like about his game.
04:22Had a hell of a combine.
04:23Yeah.
04:24He's got long arms.
04:25Played at Georgia.
04:25Played in some big-time games there.
04:28Has good footwork.
04:29The Cowboys' tackles need a turning over.
04:32And Dak is getting old, and he's not mobile.
04:34And he is injury-prone.
04:36You were playing with fire.
04:39With having this level of tackle.
04:41Yeah.
04:42And your defense is so bad, you're drawing a line in the sand.
04:45And you're saying, we're not going to be this bad on defense anymore.
04:47We're throwing all of our resources at it.
04:49But I think if opportunity comes knocking in the form of a tackle at 20,
04:54who can step in and be a starter for you,
05:00that's a huge opportunity to improve your team.
05:02Let's be honest about how good the offense was last year.
05:05Did they feast on bad teams?
05:07Did they feast when they were going?
05:09But in four or five of their games, they struggled significantly
05:12because Dak was under pressure too much?
05:15Absolutely, that's what happened.
05:16This team didn't end up elite.
05:19It ended up pretty good.
05:21But I think if you're going to win a Super Bowl with this quality of offense,
05:25your defense better be really damn good.
05:28So I'm not reaching for defense if quality offensive players are there
05:33because at the very latest, we're going to be looking for a new right tackle next year.
05:38And you might be looking for a new left tackle as well very soon.
05:41Yeah, I mean, I think if I'm going tackle, I might just go with Max Ionachor,
05:46which, I mean, I've heard that last name pronounced a bunch of different ways.
05:49I need to figure out the right way to say it.
05:50I like the way Dawson goes about it.
05:52What do you say?
05:53Just call him Nacho.
05:54Just call him Nacho.
05:54Yeah, let's go with Nacho.
05:56The year's an estate kid.
05:57I mean, I would not be stunned if he's the best offensive tackle from this class.
06:00It's all said and done.
06:00He's just super raw.
06:01And he's a right tackle.
06:03But you know what?
06:03He might be able to play left for you.
06:05He's a great athlete.
06:06I think it might be Ionachor.
06:08Ionachor, okay.
06:09We also could change three or four times by the time he gets out of his rookie contract.
06:14But yeah, you only need to turn on his games for about 30 seconds to understand completely
06:19he could be great.
06:21You can see it from him.
06:22Physically, he's got long arms.
06:24He's everything really you kind of want in a tackle.
06:26He is so smooth and so big.
06:30Okay.
06:30All righty.
06:31It is the pause.
06:32It is the GBAC Nation on 105.3 The Fan.
06:37Let's jump over here to Joseph Hoyt's final mock draft.
06:41We go to the Dallas Morning News.
06:44Hoyt will be around here on the broadcast before too long.
06:47He's moving on up to Cleveland.
06:50Caleb Downs says, here's what we know.
06:52The Cowboys are open to trading up and Cleveland wants to trade back.
06:55I'm still skeptical to actually come to an agreement.
06:57But with Stiles, Reese, and Bailey already gone, the Cowboys decide to get a player who's
07:02perfect for Christian Parker.
07:04Cowboys don't want to give up 20.
07:06So they would entertain giving up a high pick.
07:08And the 27 draft is part of a package to move up.
07:11Now in this case, Dallas sends 12-22 Cleveland for 639.
07:17And he gets 152 out of the deal.
07:20So a lot of Cowboys fans would be very excited about that.
07:23But you're not going to be picking again here in the first round.
07:27You end up with Caleb Downs.
07:28I don't think anybody's going to be disappointed by that.
07:30No.
07:30I think Downs is the one seed for all Cowboys fans across the board.
07:35If they end up with Downs, I don't think they really care how they went about doing it.
07:39But, of course, ideally he falls to 12 and the pants go flying off.
07:43Okay, elsewhere here in the C-Note, Cowboys news of the evening where we look at all the
07:47top headlines, things being written about your football team with just a couple of days
07:52to go to the draft.
07:52Let's circle back to the Athletic.
07:54We get to Mishoda and says if he was the Cowboys GM, this is what he would be doing today.
08:00Number one, reopen talks with the Raiders about Max Crosby.
08:06I'll send 20 for Max.
08:08He says this is only an option if my team doctors believe there aren't long-term concerns with
08:14his knee.
08:14Late last month, Jones said he didn't anticipate revisiting the trade talks for Crosby, but
08:19he added, is it possible?
08:21Yes.
08:23I guess my read on this, gentlemen, and you're closer to the inside, is that teams out there
08:30really don't believe Max Crosby is healthy right now?
08:33That's the thought.
08:35Yeah.
08:35I don't think this is a situation where the Ravens are the bad guy.
08:39I think it's got to be consensus.
08:41Otherwise, these talks would have picked back up.
08:44You know, teams that wanted Max wouldn't have let it die off this easily.
08:47Yes.
08:48Yeah.
08:48I mean, hey, the Cowboys, their doctor probably would advise them better than any other.
08:54I mean, he was part of that whole consultation with the Ravens.
08:57He knows exactly how that knee looks.
08:59But if you think he's going to be okay, and I don't really care about longer than three
09:04years, you know, I know that was the Ravens' big holdup, was how long is that leg going
09:09to hold up, right?
09:10I mean, you've probably got three prime years left of him.
09:13If the Cowboys especially took one of these receivers in the first round, I'd be calling
09:17about flipping Pickens for him.
09:19Wow.
09:20Why not?
09:21I don't think they have any intention to pay George Pickens long-term right now, especially
09:25if they basically draft his replacement, like if Tyson falls to 12, or Tate falls to 12,
09:30or Omar Cooper Jr.'s their pick at 20, the Indiana receiver.
09:34I'd be, yeah, I'd absolutely look to flip George Pickens.
09:36Not that, I mean, I wouldn't want to, but I think that's smart team building-wise to do
09:40so.
09:40With the assurance that he's totally healthy.
09:43Yes.
09:43Because I think right now you're probably looking at seven, eight more good years of
09:46George Pickens, and Max Crosby might be done.
09:49Like, his pressure numbers last year, what did he play, 14 games and had 52 pressures?
09:53Was that what it was?
09:5452, 55?
09:56Yeah, it went down.
09:56Somewhere in there.
09:57You know, so I don't know.
09:59I would be nervous about it.
10:00I think I'd be excited about trying to get Max Crosby on top of what you already have
10:05to try to go all in with whatever he's got left in the tank.
10:09But I assume that the Cowboys and other teams are waiting to see once that season starts
10:15if Max can go out there and get after the quarterback like he has.
10:19Mishota says, if there is no Crosby deal to be had, use every pick on defense.
10:24And if you're not happy with that, you know, consider trading up to go get your edge.
10:30They definitely need one.
10:32You know, as much as you might like Rashawn Gary and believe in Donovan Ezra,
10:35Raku, James Houston, Sam Williams, it's just not enough.
10:38And they know that.
10:39So if you can't get Max, you're not going to get an impact edge at 12.
10:46Move on up.
10:47Go get it.
